elfältig, köstlich, wohlriechend, fein, auf gesunden örtlichen Lebensmitteln basierend – das ist die Gourmet-Geschichte der Riviera Opatija und Rijeka, die Sie mit ihren verlockenden Aromen vom 09. Mai bis 19. Juni 2017 begeistern möchte.

Die perfekte Lage der Stadt Opatija als Bindeglied zwischen dem Meer und dem Festland findet sich auch in der gastronomischen Kultur wieder. Die kontinentale und mediterrane Küche fließen kreativ in die Speisekarte ein, die ohne die unverfälshten und frischen Zutaten aus lokalem Anbau undenkbar wäre. Es ist daher nicht verwunderlich, dass die Riviera Opatija stolz auf einige der besten Restaurants an der kroatischen Adria ist. Von den vielen bekannten Leckerbissen der Region möchten wir hier nur einige erwähnen, z.B. die Kvarner Scampi, wilden Spargel, Kastanien und Kirschen aus Lovran oder Trüffel aus Istrien.

Um Besuchern das vielfältige kulinarische Angebot mit gesunden regionalen Zutaten näher zu bringen, organisiert der Tourismusverband der Stadt Opatija zusammen mit den Tourismusverbänden der Riviera Opatija und der Stadt Rijeka die Veranstaltung „Gourmet-Geschichte der Riviera Opatija und Rijeka“. Während der Veranstaltung bieten mehr als 70 Restaurants, Schenken, Cafés und Konditoreien an der Riviera Opatija und in Rijeka erstklassige, mit erlesenen Zutaten regionaler Herkunft zubereitete kulinarische Spezialitäten an.

aried, delicious, fragrant, sophisticated, based on healthy local ingredients – this is the Gourmet Story of Opatija, which will charm you with its seductive aromas from 9 May to 19 June 2017.

Opatija’s ideal position at the junction between sea and mainland is reflected in its gastronomy. Creative menus mix both the continental and the Mediterranean cuisine, both of which are based on perfectly fresh local organic food. No wonder, then, that Opatija boasts some of the best restaurants on the Croatian Adriatic. Let us mention but a few of the famous local delicacies: the Kvarner langoustines (scampi), fresh from the Kvarner Gulf, wild asparagus, chestnuts and cherries from Lovran, Istrian truffles.

With the aim of presenting to Opatija’s guests the area’s rich and varied culinary offer based on health foods, the Opatija Tourist Board organises an event called ‘The Gourmet Story’. During the event, many restaurants, taverns, cafés and pastry shops will offer superb culinary specialities prepared with local ingredients.

“Grašnjaki” stuffed with veal ragout in asparagus and black truffle sauce

Knead the dough and let it rise for an hour.

To prepare the filling, chop the veal into smaller pieces, fry it on the chopped spring onion with olive oil, season it with salt and pepper. Pour white wine and beef soup, let it boil until the liquid evaporates and the meat becomes soft (ca. 20 min.). Leave it to cool down and then chop with a knife.

Roll out the dough, stuff one half with small piles and cover with the other half of the dough. Folded dough must be cut with molds and fried in deep oil.

For the sauce, you need to finely chop the asparagus, fry it on a splash of olive oil and pour the beef soup over it. Let it boil for a few minutes and connect all with a small piece of butter.

The meal should be served warm, on a warm plate, with grated fresh black truffle, decorated with fresh herbs.

“Grašnjaki” are a dish made by Chef Vinko Frlan. Originally the “grašnjak” is filled with chestnuts and served as a dessert at the time of the Carnival. Made in this manner, it is not served with sauce, but made dry as an old-fashioned small cookie.

„Grašnjaki“ gefüllt mit Kalbsragout in Spargel und schwarzer Trüffelsoße

Kneten Sie den Teig und lassen Sie ihn eine Stunde lang gehen.

Für die Füllung müssen Sie das Kalbfleisch in kleinere Stücke hacken und auf den ebenso gehackten Frühlingszwiebeln mit Olivenöl anbraten - mit Salz und Pfeffer würzen. Gießen Sie Weißwein und Rindersuppe dazu, lassen Sie es kochen, bis die Flüssigkeit verdunstet und das Fleisch weich ist (ca. 20 Min.). Lassen Sie es abkühlen und dann mit einem Messer in Stücke hacken.

Den Teig ausrollen, in eine Hälfte die Kalbfleischhäufchen verteilen und mit der anderen Hälfte des Teigs abdecken. Schneiden Sie aus dem gefalteten Teig Stücke mit einer Ausstechform aus und braten Sie den Teig in heißem Öl.

Für die Sauce müssen Sie den Spargel fein hacken, mit einem Spritzer Olivenöl anbraten und die Rindersuppe darüber gießen. Lassen Sie alles ein paar Minuten kochen und schmecken mit einem kleinen Stück Butter ab.

Die Speise sollte warm serviert werden, auf einer warmen Platte, mit geriebenen frischen schwarzen Trüffel, verziert mit frischen Kräutern. „Grašnjaki“ ist ein Gericht vom Chefkoch Vinko Frlan. Ursprünglich war „Grašnjak“ mit Kastanien gefüllt und diente als Dessert zur Karnevalszeit. Auf diese Weise hergestellt, wird es nicht mit Sauce serviert, sondern trocken, wie ein altmodischer kleiner Keks.

er zum ersten Mal im Jahr 799 erwähnte Ort Trsat ist ideal für einen Spaziergang, zum Kaffee trinken und Sehenswürdigkeiten besuchen. Besonders beeindruckend ist die Burg Trsat, die aus der prähistorischen Zeit stammt, als es noch ein Wachtturm war. Sein gegenwärtiges Aussehen ist der Verdienst seines letzten Besitzers, des Grafen Laval Nugent, der es in der ersten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts gekauft und renoviert hat. Später wurde es sein Familienmausoleum.

In der Nähe befindet sich der berühmte Schrein der Madonna von Trsat, einer der ältesten in Kroatien, der im Juni 2003 vom Papst Johannes Paul II. besucht wurde. Zu seiner Ehre wurde das Denkmal des Heiligen Vaters außerhalb des Schreins errichtet - Der Pilger von Trsat. Das Denkmal ist das Werk des Bildhauers Ante Jurkić. Der Schrein von Trsat wurde nach der Legende im Jahre 1291 gegründet, als hier ein kleines Nazareth-Haus der Heiligen Familie erschien, das von Engeln gebracht wurde. Das Haus verschwand drei Jahre später, aber die Heiligkeit des Ortes wurde bewahrt. Seit sieben Jahrhunderten ist dies ein Ort, der von zahlreichen Pilgern aus der ganzen Welt besucht wird. Allerdings ist ein besonders feierlicher Tag für Trsat der 15. August, während des Festes Mariä Himmelfahrt. Der Schrein und das Franziskanerkloster sind mit der Stadt Rijeka mit den Stufen Petar Kružić verbunden, deren Bau von diesem kroatischen Kriegsherrn im Jahre 1531 bestellt wurde. Es sind insgesamt 561 Stufen, die vom Stadtzentrum nach Trsat führen.

entioned for the first time in 799, Trsat is an ideal place for a walk, sipping a coffee and sightseeing. Particularly impressive is the Trsat Castle which dates back to prehistoric times when it was a watchtower. Its present appearance is the merit of its last owner, Count Laval Nugent, who bought it in the first half of the 19th century and renovated it into a family mausoleum.

Nearby is the famous shrine of Our Lady of Trsat, one of the oldest in Croatia, which was visited in June 2003 by the Pope John Paul II. In his honour, the monument of The Holy Father –The Pilgrim of Trsat was erected just outside of the shrine, the work of the sculptor Ante Jurkić. The Trsat Shrine, according to legend, was founded in 1291 when a small Nazareth house of the Holy Family appeared here, brought by angels. The house disappeared three years later, but the sanctity of the place was preserved. For seven centuries, this was the place frequented by numerous pilgrims from all around the world. However, a particularly solemn day for Trsat is 15 August, during the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. The shrine and the Franciscan Monastery are connected with Rijeka’s city centre

by Petar Kružić’s Steps, whose construction was ordered by this Croatian warlord in 1531. There are a total of 561 steps, offering an easy climb from the city centre to Trsat.

Lungomare 2011 WURDE DAS HUNDERTSTE JUBILÄUM DES BEKANNTESTEN SPAZIERWEGES OPATIJAS GEFEIERT – DER BERÜHMTEN KÜSTENPROMENADE LUNGOMARE, DIE SICH VON VOLOSKO BIS NACH LOVRAN ERSTRECKT UND HEUTE DEN NAMEN DES KAISERS FRANZ JOSEF I. TRÄGT.

S

ie ist zwischen dem 19. und 20. Jahrhundert in der Blütezeit des Kur- und Urlaubsortes Opatija entstanden, und wurde in Etappen gebaut: die erste Teilstrecke, der sogenannte Nordstrand von Volosko bis Opatija, wurde 1889 angelegt; im gleichen Jahr, in dem Opatija offiziell zum Luftkurort erklärt wurde. Die zweite Etappe, der Südstrand von Opatija bis Lovran, wurde 1911 fertig gestellt.

Seitdem ist Lungomare der beliebteste Spazierweg für die Bewohner und Gäste von Opatija, das Lieblingsmotiv vieler Photographien und Bilder sowie ein unentbehrlicher Teil des Stadtbildes von Opatija von der Meerseite aus betrachtet.

Ein Spaziergang entlang der Küstenpromenade Lungomare ist vor allem eine Gelegenheit, von der frischen Meeresluft zu profitieren und die wunderbare Küstenlandschaft mit zahlreichen Buchten zu bewundern. Dabei bietet

sich auch die Möglichkeit, die lokale Geschichte besser kennenzulernen: vom Ausgangspunkt in Volosko am Geburtshaus des großen Wissenschaftlers Andrija Mohorovičić weiter entlang der ehemaligen Sanatorien und Pensionen des Nordstrands, durch den Park Angiolina und den Stadtteil mit dem Strand Slatina bis zum Südstrand und den prächtigen Villen in Lovran reihen sich an der Promenade Gebäude, Standorte und Denkmäler auf, die über die interessante Geschichte Opatijas Auskunft geben.

Neben der Geschichte bekommt der interessierte Spaziergänger auch einen Eindruck vom Reichtum der lokalen Vegetation und lernt die Wohltaten des lokalen Klimas kennen. Entlang des Küstenweges wachsen wunderschöne Exemplare von Pflanzen und Bäumen, die für diese Gegend typisch sind: der aromatische Meerfenchel auf den Felsen, immergrüne Steineichen, einige Arten laubabwerfender Eichen, duftender Lorbeer und immergrüner Klebsame… Ihre Baumkronen werfen angenehmen Schatten, und ihre Blüten füllen die Luft in der Blütezeit mit wohlriechenden Düften.

Entlang der Küstenpromenade reihen sich prächtige im Sezessionsstil gebaute Villen auf, sowie Denkmäler, die an verdiente historische

Persönlichkeiten erinnern oder die zum Wahrzeichen von Opatija geworden sind, wie etwa das berühmte Mädchen mit der Möwe. Lungomare bietet aber auch zahlreiche einsame Ecken mit Ruhebänken im Schatten der hundertjährigen Eichen; Stellen, die an das einstige Alltagsleben der lokalen Bevölkerung erinnern (z. B. die Quelle Dražica), malerische Buchten und schöne Kiesstrände sowie Terrassen, auf

denen man ein Getränk oder eine Mahlzeit direkt beim Meer genießen kann…

All dies und noch vieles mehr – auch nach hundert Jahren hat die Küstenpromenade Lungomare nichts von ihrem Reiz verloren und lädt heute wie damals zu einem angenehmen Spaziergang ein. Einige ihrer Geheimnisse finden sicherlich auch im Album Ihrer persönlichen Erinnerungen einen wohlverdienten Platz.

IN 2011, WE CELEBRATED THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF OPATIJA’S BEST-KNOWN FOOTPATH – THE FAMOUS COASTAL PROMENADE THAT STRETCHES FROM VOLOSKO TO LOVRAN.

O

fficially named the Franz Joseph I Promenade, it is still best known as the Lungomare. Dating back to the heyday of Opatija as a health and tourist resort at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the Lungomare was built in parts. The northern part, from Volosko to Opatija, was completed in 1889, the same year that Opatija was officially declared a climatic health resort. The southern part, connecting Opatija to Lovran, was finished in 1911.

Ever since, the Lungomare has been a favourite walking path for local people and their visitors, a motif of countless photographs and paintings, and an essential part of Opatija’s townscape when viewed from the sea.

A walk along this promenade above all means enjoying the fresh sea air and a beautiful coastal landscape dotted with quaint coves, but it is also much more than that. It is also a chance to learn something about local history: for right from its starting point in Volosko by the birthplace of the great scientist Andrija Mohorovičić, past former sanatoriums and guesthouses in the northern part of the promenade, through Angiolina Park and on past Slatina beach further south all the way to the magnificent villas in Lovran, the Lungomare reveals a series of buildings, locations, monuments and memorial plaques that tell the interesting tale of Opatija’s past.

In addition to history, interested walkers can also become more acquainted with the richness of the coastal vegetation and the beneficial effects of the local climate. Alongside the Lungomare grow some beautiful specimens of plants and trees that are typical of the local area: the aromatic rock samphire thriving on the rocks right by the sea, evergreen holm oaks, several species of deciduous oaks, fragrant laurel, and evergreen pittosporum…

The tops of these trees create a pleasant shade in summer; in bloom their flowers fill the air with fragrant scents.

While walking along the Lungomare, one can admire many magnificent villas – prime examples of Belle Époque architecture, discover monuments commemorating people important in the local history or statues that have become symbolic of Opatija (such as the Girl with the Seagull), rest awhile on a secluded bench in the shade of hundred-year-old trees, remember how people here used to live in the past (the freshwater source in the small port of Dražica), be charmed by quaint coves and beautiful pebble beaches, or enjoy a drink or meal on a terrace right by the sea…

All of that, and much more too – for, even one hundred years after its creation, the Lungomare still inspires us to walk along its beautiful stones and to discover some of its hidden secrets. Secrets which, who knows, might become part of your own Lungomare memories too.

er Strand Tomaševac ist sandig mit betonierten Liegeflächen und liegt an der Strandpromenade Lungo Mare in der Nähe des Hotel Ambasador in Opatija. Für Kinder und Jugendliche ist dieser Strand besonders geeignet, da es jede Menge Platz zum Spielen gibt und der weitläufige Spielplatz nicht nur eine Kletterpyramide, Rutschen und Schaukeln bietet, sondern auch einen Fußballplatz. Schirme und Liegen kann man sich am Strand ausleihen und es gibt auch ein Strandcafé mit Speisen und Getränken.

More than 100 m² of colorful fantasy world is waiting for you and your children. A wonderland for children from age 1 to 12 where they are allowed to do what makes them the happiest: drama, mess and noise. Next door to the playground is a bistro where you can enjoy coffee with a beautiful view of Opatija while your kids are playing.

Family beach

T

he Tomaševac Beach is partly sandy and partly concrete, located on the Lungo Mare promenade near the Ambassador Hotel in Opatija. A special feature of the beach is the fact that it is fully adapted for children and has plenty of room to play with a spacious playground with not only the pyramid for climbing, slides, swings, but also smaller football pitch. Parasols and deck chairs can be rented on the beach, and there is a coffee bar on the beach with food and drink.
