Um Ihren Besuch zum Highlight werden zu lassen, haben wir wieder spezielle Tipps und Themen für Sie zusammengestellt Der bereits zum fünften Mal stattfindende Adventmarkt direkt in Opatija mit einem Eislaufplatz ist auf jeden Fall ein Besuch wert! elcome to the November / December issue of “Enjoy Opatija”! The Christmas spirit has finally arrived which you will notice as soon as you start reading. Even though it is the winter time, there is a lot to see in Opatija and our region. In order to make your visit easier, we have collected special tips and topics for you. The Christmas fair, which has already been held for the fifth time, with an ice skating rink is definitely worth a visit if you want to lift your Christmas spirit! A variety of local specialties, entertainment program for young and little less young as well as a small ice rink awaits you (p. 4/5).During this time of the year, many likes to visit a church therefore, we wrote a little something about the churches in Opatija (p. 12/13). For those who want to try something sweet, we have put together everything about this years “Chocolate Festival” (p.6) In the “Kids Corner” (p. 14), we have put together a colorful children’s program for this month. I
n diesem Jahr erwartet Opatija die Weihnachtsfeiertage in einer intimen, romantischen Stimmung auf der Freilichtbühne, die für diese Gelegenheit zur Feiertags-Winteroase mit weihnachtlichen Speisen und Getränken umgestaltet wurde. Eine Besonderheit dieser Veranstaltung ist ein auf der Sommerbühne angelegter Eislaufplatz, nur wenige Meter vom Meer entfernt, mit gemütlichen Holzhäusern und passender Deko, was die gesamte Landschaft wie mit einer kleinen Prise Magie in eine Winterszene verwandelt. Die gesamte Veranstaltung Eiszauber findet im Dezember und Januar statt und schafft einen kleinen Wintersportort, wo der Geist der Weihnachts- und Neujahrszeit nur wenige Schritte vom Meer entfernt ist. Es gibt auch buntes Kinderprogramm, mit einem Nikolaus, der die Kinder willkommen heißt. Das Programm ist gleichermaßen für große & kleine Weihnachtsfans gedacht! Opatija ist die Weihnachtsmesse, organisiert rund um den Eislaufplatz, wo Sie in den rustikalen nach Zimt und Nelken duftenden Holzhäusern und zum Klang von Weihnachtsliedern Glühwein, Wurst, Krabben und Heiße Schokolade genießen oder ein ausgefallenes Andenken oder Geschenk kaufen können, das bald seinen Platz unter dem Tannenbaum am Weihnachtsmorgen findet. Zusammen mit Weihnachtsmusik in einer weihnachtlich geschmückten Umgebung mit vielen Bäumen und Holzhäusern, die Souvenirs anbieten und Eislaufen nur einen Schritt vom Meerufer ist ein einzigartiges Erlebnis, das jeder, der es einmal erlebt, sicherlich im nächsten Jahr wiederholen will.

Ice Magic – Ice skating rink & Christmas Fair 03.12.2016 – 15.01.2017
T
his year Opatija welcomes Christmas holidays in an intimate, romantic mood of the “Summer Stage” which for this occasion becomes a winter oasis of fun, a break with your daily routine and appropriate gastronomy. A special feature of this event is an ice rink set up on the “Summer stage” just a couple of meters away from the sea, surrounded with cosy wooden houses. Appropriate decoration transforms, as if by magic, the whole area into a veritable winter scene. The event called “Ice magic” is held throughout December and January creating a small winter resort where the spirit of Christmas and New Year is faithfully played out only a few steps from the sea. The event includes a rich
programme specifically designed for kids, such as a welcome party for St. Nicholas. A stage programme is bound to entertain everybody – grownups and kids alike. An indispensable part of Winter story in Opatija is the Christmas Fair, organized around the ice rink where, in rustic wooden houses, enveloped by the scent of cinnamon and cloves, and the sound of Christmas carols you can taste hot wine, sausages, fritters and hot chocolate or buy a special souvenir or gift that will find its place under your Christmas tree. Along with Christmas music in appropriately decorated surroundings with trees all around and wooden houses that sell souvenirs you can go ice-skating only a step from the sea. This blend of the seasons – the ice and the sea - creates a unique experience you will certainly want to repeat next year as well. D
ie süßeste Veranstaltung in Opatija präsentiert am ersten Dezemberwochenende die besten kroatischen und internationalen Schokoladenmarken, aber auch kleine Konditorbetriebe, die sich auf Schokoladensüßspeisen spezialisiert haben. Der Ausstellungs- und Verkaufsbereich des Schokoladenfestivals befindet sich auf der Freilichtbühne, wo jeder Hersteller gewählte Produkte aus seinem Angebot präsentiert. Weitere attraktive Programme wie etwa Workshops, Verkostungen, Konzerte und Ausstellungen zum Thema Schokolade finden in Opatija Hotels und Restaurants, sowie in Kunstgalerien, Ausstellungspavillons, Museen und Schulen statt. Mit vereinten Kräften wird von sämtlichen Konditoren schließlich die große „Kaisertorte“ hergestellt, und ein besonderer Teil der Veranstaltung ist das sogenannte „Opatija Paradox“, bei dem unter fachlicher Führung diverse Schokoladengeschmäcker mit Qualitätsweinen aus der Region kombiniert werden.

rbaut höchstwahrscheinlich um 1420 als Kolonie der aus dem friaulischen Kloster San Pietro di Rosazzo geflohenen Benediktiner, war diese Abtei Namensgeberin für die ganze spätere Siedlung (Kroatisch: opatija = Abtei). Heute ist nur noch sehr wenig von ihrem ursprünglichen Aussehen erhalten: 1506 baute Abt Simeon die Kirche aus bzw. um, was uns die Aufschrift über dem Portal sagt; Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts wurde sie gründlich renoviert, und um 1930 wurde erheblich erweitert. An Attraktionen verwahrt die Replik eines Reliefs von Meštrović. Das Kloster war, als es noch allein auf weiter Flur stand, ein Ort, an dem Gerichtsverhandlungen und Märkte abgehalten wurden, die zum St. Jakobstag die Gäste aus der Umgebung zum Tanzen und Handeln anlockte; in unmittelbarer Nähe stand die erste Begräbnisstätte der Bewohner Opatijas und im 19. Jahrhundert wurde hier auch die erste Schule Opatijas untergebracht. Das Gebäude war danach im Besitz einer ganzen Reihe von kirchlichen Orden, von den Benediktinern und Augustinern bis zu den Paulinern und Jesuiten. Heute sind hier, außer Gebeten und Messen, auch Kammerkonzerte zu hören.
M
ost probably built in 1420, as a colony of Benedictine refugees from the Friulian monastery of St. Peter in Rožac (San Pietro di Rosazzo), the entire settlement will later be named after this abbey. Today very little has been preserved of its original appearance: in 1506 abbot Šimun built or reconstructed the church, according to the inscription above the portal; near the end of the 18th century the church was thoroughly renovated, and in 1930 it was considerably expanded. Among its attractions, it houses a replica of one of Mestrović’s reliefs. Since its very beginnings, when the church and the monastery still stood isolated, the abbey was a site where court trials were held and served as country fairs. On St. James’s Day the fairs attracted visitors from the surrounding countryside as there was amusement (dances) and merchandize to be bought. Located in its vicinity was Opatija’s first burial ground, and in the 19th century this was also the site of the first school in the newly flourishing town. The church itself passed from hand to hand of a whole series of religious orders, from the Benedictines and Augustinians to the Paulists and Jesuits. Today, besides prayers and masses, chamber concerts are also held here.

ieses interessante neoromanische dreischiffige Bauwerk mit erkennbarer grüner Kuppel stammt aus dem Jahr 1906. Die Errichtung nach den Plänen des Architekten Karl Seidl wurde von den Österreichern begonnen und von den Italienern fortgeführt.

ie Riviera Opatija ist im Winter so schön, dass sogar der Weihnachtsmann einem Besuch nicht widerstehen kann. Jeden Dezember kommt er aus seiner Heimat in Lappland zu seiner „Residenz“ auf dem Berg Učka, wo Schnee und Pferdeschlitten den perfekten Hintergrund bilden, um den weißbärtigen Mann im Naturpark Učka zu treffen und ein Weihnachtsmärchen besonderer Art hautnah zu erleben. An den drei Tagen Mitte Dezember bietet diese Veranstaltung viel Freude für die Kinder, die dem Weihnachtsmann begegnen und ihm ihre Wünsche ins Ohr flüstern. Währenddessen können sich die Eltern in idyllischer Atmosphäre bei einem Glas heißen Tee entspannen.

ollte es in Opatija einmal regnen, dann besuchen Sie mit ihren Kindern Opatijas ersten Indoor Spielplatz! Hier erwartet Sie und Ihre Kinder auf über 100 m² eine kunterbunte Fantasiewelt. Ein Wunderland für alle Kinder zwischen 1 und 12. Hier dürfen sie das tun, was ihnen am meisten Spaß macht: spielen, toben und laut sein. he Opatija Riviera is so attractive in winter that even Santa Claus cannot resist paying a visit here. Every December, he comes from Lapland to his „residence“ on Mount Učka, where the snow and horse-drawn sleighs make the perfect setting for an encounter with the whitebearded Santa during the Christmas Tale in Učka Nature Park. This event, which lasts for three days in December, is particularly loved by children who can meet Santa and tell him their Christmas wishes, while their parents can relax in the idyllic atmosphere with a cup of hot tea.
