7 YEARS OF GROW. Stop any person in the street and ask them to choose an odd number between 1 and 10. More o en not, they will say the number 7. For ‘lucky 7’ is the world’s favourite number. There are seven days of the week, seven colours of the rainbow, seven notes on a musical scale, seven seas and seven continents. Snow White ran off to live with seven dwarves, there were seven brides for seven brothers, Shakespeare described the seven ages of man, Sinbad the Sailor had seven voyages. And when Ian Fleming was looking for a code for James Bond, he didn’t go for 006 or 008. Only 007 had the right ring. Neve heless, 7 is a magic number. And here is the story of 7 spectacular years, full of challenges, oppo unities and moments that turned into memories. 7 years of GROW.

THE 7 SECRETS OF THE YOUNG GROW WIZARDS

4

4 9 out 10 GROW teens strongly believe that involving in non-formal activities helps them in sharpening various skills that can be used in a large variety of careers.

1

5

GROW teenagers are open-minded and more willingly to learn about topics such as career orientation, future steps, fast learning methods, problems of the contemporary world (i.e.: pollution, climate changes, human rights), sexuality, feelings, mental illness, bullying or personal fears.

Half of the GROW teens are involved in national projects and campaigns, driven by the wish to transform Romania into a be er country.

2 By organizing step-up projects on their own, GROW teens believe that, besides practicing what they have learned during GROW, they have the chance to help people, raise money for children in need, raise awareness about ce ain issues (i.e.: health, eating habits) or reunite a ists in their community.

3 WWW.GROWEDU.RO

Almost all GROW wizards (90%) would like to repeat the experience of creating and organizing a step-up project.

6 GROW wizards are well-informed with the news! They believe the most impo ant problems that the world is facing at the moment are terrorism, refugee crisis, war, environmental issues and racism. Moreover, one third of them are already actively involving in various initiatives aiming to solve these problems.

7 GROW impacts the trainers, too! 100% of the amazing international trainers have improved not only their self-esteem, but their perception upon the impo ance of non-formal education nowadays.

2017 was a truly outstanding year for GROW, being the stepping stone for #CommunityChallenge projects, a new concept designed for the pa icipants where they can practice everything they have learned in GROW by creating and organizing their own projects for the community. In only one year we summed up 123 beautiful projects that have reached 5625 people.

ONCE UPON A TIME, IN THE KINGDOM OF NIVEA GROW has always paid a ention to subjects that are of real impo ance to teenagers. As well as in the previous years, we continued to tackle self-confidence topic. In this Summer Edition of 2017, in order to offer pa icipants an even more comprehensive experience in terms of boosting self-confidence, we joined forces with NIVEA, due to NIVEA’s objective of helping teenagers in feeling more comfo able in their own skin. Thus, we complemented the self-confidence sessions across the country with #likeyourself workshops, thereas youngsters had the chance to learn simple but effective tricks from the over 110-years long knowledge NIVEA gathered in skin care, tricks that can have a great and visible impact on the aspect of their skin, which naturally contributes to increasing self-love. 15 “Taking care of yourself and your skin became a reason to think more about actions and what is good for a boost of self-confidence. Beauty is no longer beauty if you don’t maintain it and it can be harmful for the way you are feeling , so it can damage your entire day. This is what the teenagers discovered a er a ending the NIVEA Session. Both girls and boys were really curious about how they can improve their self-confidence and now they know one of the keys to it.

THE ENCHANTING CHRONICAL OF ANCA BROASCĂ Hello! My name is Anca, I’m 20 and I can definitely say about myself that I have a fulfilled soul. I have wonde ul people around me, I live my life to the fullest and I love to accept and accomplish new challenges. But, in order to achieve this mindset, I had to overcome different mile stones which involved joining various projects, volunteering and trying as much as possible to get out of my comfo zone. Back when I was in primary school, I would have probably avoid eye contact with you, and if our eyes met by accident, I would have looked in the other direction and tried to get lost in the crowd a er 0.2 seconds.

“In 2016 NIVEA decided to address one of the most serious educational issues in Romania: very low level of Skin Care education in early age that leads to skin problems later in life. How? Through a long-term commitment towards teenage girls: #LikeYourself caravan, all around Romania. The aim is to teach teenage girls that in order to like themselves they need to care for themselves and feel good in their own skin. NIVEA comes with a basic skin care routine proposition that should stay with them for the rest of their lives and should help them understand the needs of their skin and how to take care of it. When we found out about GROW, we considered it a big oppo unity for us to deliver our #LikeYourself message to one of our most impo ant targets and teach them how to feel good in their skin. GROW is not about ordinary teenagers, GROW is about involved teenagers, eager to learn more and to have different experiences. This is why we are confident that every pa icipant in this project will not only take the best of NIVEA #LikeYourself experience, but also share it in their group of friends, colleagues etc. and make them aware of the impo ance of Skin Care education and self-confidence during high school life.

So, the first step towards my personal development happened in the summer of 2012 and consisted in the bi h of my YouTube channel and the upload of my first video. That happened right a er the moment I found out that I got accepted in the highschool that I desired to be in. I thought that pu ing myself in front of a camera and sharing my opinions to the public would be a good idea to cure my shyness and become a more sociable person in the eyes of my colleagues. I would normally upload videos on weekends, and on Mondays everyone at school would comment and say “C’mon, let’s make fun of Broască and hit the dislike bu on on her videos!”. Indeed, my social skills were improving, but I was very affected by what others might be thinking or saying about me.

2

The second step was my involvement in many extracurricular activities. In 9th grade I found out about GROW and back in those days I had no clue about the impact this project would have on me. I didn’t join the first edition, but a er it happened and I heard the stories from my friends, I couldn’t wait for the next one to come. In 10th grade (we were in 2014, yeah), I joined two GROW editions and I got charmed by this fully different type of education – non-formal education, by the international trainers, by the fact that we were doing everything in English. I had workshops that were so diverse and covered juicy topics such as leadership, time management or self-confidence. It was the first time ever when I had a real conversation with other persons about my

18 passions or my fears, and the simple fact of receiving their a ention or a smile would give me a great confidence boost (confidence which got noticed even on my YouTube videos from that time).

3

Then, it was GROW Summer Camp 2015. I was a pa icipant and I actually celebrated my 18th bi hday in the camp. Hello GROW, I even met my current flat mate in the camp, how cool is that? A er that, it comes the time for GROW Summer Camp 2017, when I was the official vlogger of the camp. I had no expectations from this experience, I only wanted to do my job, listen to some new stories from the organizers (I really missed them) and maybe eavesdrop to one training or two. I never imagined that I would connect so well with the pa icipants, learn from them and share with them the happiness of showing what videos I prepared at the end of the day.

4

The last step (so far) was stepping up and applying everything I have learned; I learned to overcome my fear that every person who sees me for the very first time will judge me or have something against the fact that I always carry my camera around. Sho ly put, I learned to stop ove hinking, ‘cause it’s not good for your health. I learned to speak up, make my voice (and opinions) heard and always ask questions when in doubt. I learned to love myself more. To believe in ME.

And now? Now I’m trying to share a good vibe with my almost 300,000 subscribers and bring joy with the way I am. With love, Anca

THE HIDDEN ADVENTURE OF THE RED-BEARDED VIKING Hey hey hey! I'm Balaș. It all sta ed in my 10th grade, with a presentation of the GROW project in my school. I didn't exactly understand fancy words like "leadership" or "personal development", but my mind said "Let's try it. You get a diploma, right?". Later on, I got to discover that its much more than that. The first edition impressed me with the trainers, ge ing to know more and more about different cultures. In the second I sta ed to observe a real improvement of some of my skills like public speaking or reflection on my actions. The third edition amazed me with the people I connected with, finding my li le 'family' over there, learning what accepting others and listening means. And so on‌each edition convinced me to go for the next one, up to 6 editions of GROW, becoming an ambassador, and 2 editions of GROW Summer Camp, becoming organizer in

the third. All this process taught me to see things from different perspectives and shape a growth mindset. I truly believe that this mindset was formed as a result of all the experiences that I have encountered in GROW and helped me achieve what I have today. From the 'family' that I have now in all over the country, to self-acceptance and professional achievements in the last 4 years (like working to develop mobile apps from a young age, winning multiple national titles in professional basketball, coordinating tens of volunteers, creating an educational program and becoming an entrepreneur) GROW, I salute you!

GROW SUMMER CAMP 2017: THE CAMP OF THE GAME CHANGERS What’s a game changer? A game changer is a concept. It’s that aha moment when the path to a life-altering decision becomes clear and action is taken. In a story or game, it’s that moment when it becomes clear what the hero has to do. It’s the moment of a genius idea. An idea that will change the game completely. When applied to people, a game changer is that person whom, when you meet, you instantly understand she or he could change your life and make you grow. In Grow summer camp you will meet 80 such people.

24 work together, exchange opinions and enjoy the time spent there. All this can be changed. I am doing it right now. If you train to be a game changer, you too, can change and transform your life in a game you like to play, with rules that will help you grow and evolve!” Armina Sirbu, Head of Learning, Școala de Valori

“Great things never come from comfo zones. But why would we have to go into a foggy and frightening world, sooo outside of our comfo zone that we would get paralyzed by our fears? There are other ways to grow. Like changing the game you play! We live in a world with rules made by others, inherited choices from our parents and frames and fences that make us feel constrained. We learn in schools where creativity is smashed, corridors occupy the most space of the building itself and there is no "community" feeling or space to
