Welcome to my favorite time of year – COOKIE SEASON!

Nothing in life worth having or achieving comes easily, rather you must work for it. The cookie lays a foundation of life skills you will draw upon in a reality based setting of highs and lows, ups and downs and timelines. From planning and budgeting to goal setting, financial literacy and business ethics, work ethic and let us not forget tenacity, bravery and unwavering belief in self. Every one of these skills you will draw upon when adulting. It's amazing that a 50 day program could teach all of that. Yet it does so very efficiently if you work the program. When we focus not on the numbers we sell and rather on what we learn and gain from those sales, we learn that success comes from doing it, believing and the never giving up on our own abilities. I am very much a product of the Cookie Program. It may have been a long time since 1976 when I was a Girl Scout learning and growing, but learn and grow I did. I was the shy child who could not look you in the eye much less speak to you. The cookie taught me bravery and that I had a voice worth hearing. The cookie allowed me to earn, alongside my troop, funds to send me to camp, something my parents could not afford to do for me, but through the Cookie Program I could do for myself. The Cookie Program taught me skills I still call upon as an adult. When I became a proud troop leader for my daughters troop (shout out to my 21 girls of Troop 842) I saw the other side of what a cookie could do. These amazing young women, each spectacular in their own ways, started out as squirrels and learned what goals, straight forward communication and work ethic could bring you. The Power of The Cookie is tangible and it matters. We have the ability via a little bit of deliciousness to change our stars and create the future we wish to see. Be it by using the earned troop proceeds to take action in the community and build a bee watering station or feed the homeless, to paying your way to Europe. When we see the benefit of our efforts we realize that hard work is worth it. This builds young women who become employable teens and adults who are active participants in their communities and country. Girl Scouting is most definitely “so much more” than the cookie, but the cookie is 100% the catalyst to most of what we do in Girl Scouting. Teaching to never give up when it comes time for higher awards, teaching bravery so that going to camp isn’t so scary, taking us outside our communities so that outreach and community service become natural elements of our lives and of course, funding the way for both troop and Council programming. Achieve your goals with your own two hands. What a powerful lesson! Wishing you the bravery to participate, the patience to stick with it, the joy of success and the wisdom of altering course when things don’t work as planned. All good things to you and yours always. Yours in Girl Scouting,

Elizabeth “ E” Locke-Thomas Chief of Mission Delivery

HOW THE COOKIE CRUMBLES

Welcome to the 2020 Cookie Program! Girl Scouting allows girls to progressively find their courage, independence and voice. The Girl Scout Cookie Entrepreneurial Program jumpstarts the Girl Scout Mission by providing the funds, skills and experience for girls to create and chase their adventures. The teamwork and community involvement is intrinsic to the Cookie Program and teaches girls to recognize the bigger picture and allows them to dream beyond just themselves. That kind of connection, to other people and places, is what gives girls the drive and the power to make a difference and create a better world. Join us for GSSGC’s 2020 Cookie Program and see what new adventures await!

I n f e o t r t m e a i l t io n u J Juliette’s are Girl Scouts who participate independently compared to a traditional Troop, who also have the opportunity to participate in the 2020 Cookie Program! Entrepreneurial Programs, including the Fall and Cookie Programs, help girls build selfesteem. Learning that they can set a goal, create a marketing plan and then go out and make it happen, teaches girls a life lesson: to believe in themselves. With the help of their parents or guardians, girls learn that they can do anything that they set their minds to and establish a “CAN DO” philosophy that will carry them throughout their whole lives. Participation in our Cookie Program gives Juliette Girl Scouts a chance to earn, not only individual Girl Scout Rewards based on box level, but also standard Programming Credits to help support their independent Girl Scout programming. The credits earned are a resource to be used on program supplies needed such as: uniform components, guide books and badges, to help cover registration fees for activites and other programmatic experiences and even attend Camp! Our girls learn about work ethic and earning their way through this Entreprenurial Program. To participate in the 2020 Cookie Program as a Juliette, it is mandatory that a parent, guardian, or another caring adult in her life step up to become her Cookie Program Coordinator. Any girl who does not have a Cookie Program Coordinator will be unable to participate. Juliette Coordinators are expected to register for 2020 Membership, complete the online training learning pathway and stay in direct contact with the Entrepreneurial Team by email throughout the program. See Cookie Program Coordinator Training Registration section for all your important information! RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE COOKIE PROGRAM JULIETTE COORDINATOR The Cookie Program Juliette Coordinator is a parent, guardian or another caring adult in the girl’s life who is (1) guiding and supervising a Girl Scout through her Program and is (2) financially responsible for the product and money if the girl is participating in in-person sales (physical inventory and order card ordering option).

Cookie Program Coordinator Training Registration Register at https://girlscoutsgssgc.wufoo.com/forms/w1mma07m1hm7i7z/ In order to participate in the 2020 Cookie Program, the largest entrepreneurial program for Girls, it is mandatory that one registered adult from each troop registers to become the Cookie Program Coordinator and completes the online training learning pathway. The Cookie Program Coordinator does not need to be one of the troop’s co-leader, but must be a registered adult for the 2020 membership year, have a cleared background check on file and have completed Troop Financial Management Training. Online Coordinator Training is scheduled to open on November 22, 2019. The deadline to complete training in time to place an initial order and start the program with cookies in hand is December 12, 2019. Additional training opportunities will be available, but any troop trained after December 12th will have to wait for cupboard hours to receive inventory. Once the Cookie Program Coordinator registers and is approved, their profiles and training credentials will be created every Tuesday and Friday starting November 22, 2019. Only ONE representative (Cookie Program Coordinator) from the troop will have access to the online training. 2020 Cookie Program Material Pick-up is January 16, 2020! You must complete training by January 13, 2020, to attend and receive your materials at this time. Additional opportunities to pick-up your materials will be at the discretion of your Regional Team.

Cookie Dough & Troop Proceeds Based on guidance from GSUSA and the IRS, which imposes a limit on the personal benefit any girl may receive through a non-profit fundraiser, last year the Cookie Dough Program reduced the individual Cookie Dough and converted to a Troop Loot model. Feedback from the Troop Loot Pilot was that it was too difficult to use. So this year we have reallocated the Troop Loot funds and are offering a NEW Cookie Dough structure, paired with a NEW Troop Proceed structure instead.

Spark her curiosity. Knowing her audience is a major people skill. Give her more insight about her customers by having her use a free survey tool online or creating a poll to post on social media.

Consider having your family help you record a thank-you video to tell customers all you’ve achieved and learned. Keeping clients informed and up-to-date on your successes is an important part of business ethics!

Family Tips Your Girl Scout is ready to take charge of her cookie business. Her skills will grow as she learns to ask for help and brainstorms ideas with others. Look for opportunities to encourage her to: ■ Be curious about others’ experiences and ideas by researching how to tell engaging stories and how to create a pitch. Spend an evening online together watching related how-to videos and reading relevant articles. Then help brainstorm ideas for groups for her pitch. ■ Collaborate with others to accomplish her goals and learn. Let her take the lead in asking you for help and feedback. Remember: teamwork makes the dream work!

Senior Pins

Check off the boxes as you complete each activity with your family— you can earn a different pin each year! 1. Take note! First set your sales goal on the next page and share Did you reach it? Was it too easy or too hard? Think of how you can use what you’ve learned to inform your future goals. Jot down your thoughts and email them to yourself so you can revisit them next year.

2. Shout out your strategy. Write down your plan for the season, including how you’ll maintain and grow your Girl Scout Cookie business. Document your plan using the prompts on page two. Then share it with your family, ask for help, and assign roles. Although you should always do the selling, your energy will go a lot further when your network can help you spread the word!

3. Look to the future. The Girl Scout Cookie Program has helped you build skills like managing a budget and setting and meeting goals. Now consider your future. Ask your family for support as you earn one of the Financial Literacy badges for Girl Scout Seniors—Buying Power or Financing My Future. Even if you’re earning the badge with your troop, your family will play a key role in supporting you.

4. Segment your customers. Customers can be motivated by different things. Separate them into different categories. For example, you might put your friends, family, neighbors, and broader community into four different categories. Or think of different motivations for customers; who might want to support girl empowerment? Who might want to participate in a cookie donation program? Create marketing messages that speak to the lives and motivations of each segment. Test your approach with your family, then adjust it based on their feedback.

5. Show your appreciation. tenth cookie season, you have a support network around you to help along the way. Ask your family to think of everyone who helped cheer you on, spread the word, and manage logistics. Come up with a way to say thank you to your family, troop leaders, most loyal customers, and Girl Scout sisters.

Tips for Family Your Girl Scout can run her own cookie business independently at this point—and that should make you proud. Her leadership skills will grow as she documents her plan, on her goals. Look for ways to encourage her to: ■ Take initiative to research how start-ups or new businesses document their sales strategies. There are plenty of resources online, including videos, articles, and templates for such strategies. Then cooperate as she tries her hand at delegating tasks to you and other family members while she continues to be the one doing the selling. ■ See failing as a learning opportunity when she encounters setbacks to her plan. Weather and busy schedules can get in the way. Instead of solving problems for her, ask questions that lead her to make her own solutions. What would she do differently next time? How can she predict future risks in her plan?

Ask your family to think Maximizing Mentorship: A Girl Scouts Guide found at girlscouts.org/mentor to learn how to take charge of your experience while being safe.

By running your own cookie business you’ve learned time to put that learning into action. Earn the On My Own or Good Credit badge to enhance your moneymanagement skills. Share your plan and knowledge with your family and ask them for feedback. Do they think your plan is realistic? What’s good and what might be improved?

31

4. Be a sister to every Girl Scout. Ask your family how they’ve seen you grow by participating in the Girl Scout Cookie Program, then make a list of their responses. Use this list to create a presentation, activity, or video to share with younger Girl Scouts to inspire them as they run their own cookie businesses. Part of developing people skills is sharing your learning with others and becoming a mentor yourself!

5. Translate your experience. Business ethics are a set of moral principles that guide the way a business behaves. Talk with your family about a large company or organization that you support or use frequently. What does it seem to already know or think about its business ethics, if anything? After your conversation, do an online search to learn more about the company’s business ethics and principles. How do you feel about its ethics, and how do they relate to or differ from the Girl Scout Promise and Law? Which business ethics will you carry from your Girl Scout Cookie business into your future?

Tips for Family Your Girl Scout’s experiences as a cookie entrepreneur are about to help her in the next exciting steps of her life. You’ll see her skills a mentor, and thinks about her future while passing knowledge on to other Girl Scouts. Look for ways to encourage her to: ■ Embrace challenges as she sets her sights on her future and earns either the On My Own or Good Credit badge. Share your own budget and credit experiences with her, and encourage her to ask others about their experiences. ■ Adapt to change as she focuses on a learning goal. First ask her to think about her strengths before she focuses on areas that she wants to grow in and develop. ■ Take healthy risks as she seeks a mentor. Asking for help can be intimidating, and even frustrating—some potential mentors will say no or not respond. Encourage her to keep trying. Mentors will play a key role in her future. And learning to advocate for herself now will serve her for the rest of her life.

EVENT PLANNING!

Did you know we have two types of programs? Volunteer led and staff led. Both are quality programs that make sure Girl Scouts prepare girls for a lifetime of leadership, success and adventure in a safe, no-limits place designed for and by girls! One of these programs is of course the traditional troop meeting, but there is so much more girls can participate in, either with their troop, or on their own. Help your daughter plan her Girl Scout year. Events are added to the event calendar throughout the year, so if you are looking for a fun weekend activity, or are ready for Summer Adventures, be on the lookout for our trip offerings for troops, families and individual

More program to come!!! The program department is hard at work developing new ways for girls to participate in Girl Scouting. Keep an eye on our website for the following new programs coming soon: Programs in a box – troops and girls will be able to check out program in a box to help them work on new badges. Each kit will outline the what, why and how to implement the program. It may include the ability to borrow hard to get items and a shopping list of common supplies like scissors, glue and craft supplies. Don’t forget you can request program help not just at Skyland Ranch but we come to troop meetings too (16 girl minimum). Email customercare@gssgc.org with “programs in a box” in the subject line.

Girl Scout Clubs – this can expand any girls’ Girl Scout experience. Our specialty clubs will offer the chance for your girl to expand their interest or to explore new activities. Clubs offer the girls a chance to grow their social skills, expand their communication skills, rise above with leadership opportunities, set a firm foundation in good health habits and self-care techniques. Girls will gain teamwork fundamentals in new environments and will have a safe place to learn, grow and make mistakes in a safe place and clubs are fun! For more information, to volunteer, or if you have a club idea? Please contact customercare@gssgc.org with “Clubs” in the subject line.

Azalea Trails

As the road work continues following the considerable amount of damage done from the floods on February 14th, the road leading into Azalea Trails will not see repairs completed until after our 2020 camp season. Keep an eye out for our Grand Reopening of Camp Azalea Trails on what marks her 80th anniversary in 2021. We love AT and her history and future with our Council!

WHY GIRL SCOUT CAMP? Girl Scouts is the largest all girl organization and everything we do is designed to create an environment where girls can learn and grow together and become leaders in their daily lives. We strive to build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. When girls

go to camp, either on their own or with an adult partner, they explore leadership in a new way. At camp girls build life skills, responsibility and healthy habits while developing a deep appreciation for nature. Girl Scout camp provides a caring environment led by trained adults who help girls explore, grow and have fun.

GIRLS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS Girls with special needs are of course welcome at camp. Each year, many girls with special needs are able to participate in our camp program. Special needs may include physical, medical, developmental, dietary, behavioral or communicative. The campers experience is significantly better when we know ahead of time. Moses House Girl Scouts Ariana, Robin, Paige, Madison, Tori, Peyton, Bree and Anjie in Troop #1322 worked with an organization called Moses House for the girl’s Bronze Award. The main goal of the Bronze Award is to help the Moses House since the troop understood and knew they wanted to help and also how they wanted to help. That is why the girls of Troop #1322 ran an event. At the event, all you had to do to get in was bring a pack of diapers! The troop got so many donations from stuffed animals to books, to extra diapers. At the event the troop had some games like Donut on a String, where eating a donut on a string with no hands was a challenge, the Gravity Game, where you had to make a ball roll up a hill, Minute to Win it, where you had to get a cookie into your mouth with no hands. They also had Pin the Cherry on the Ice Cream, Ski Ball, Ring Toss and you got to make Twinkie cars. To everyone and anyone who attended, the girls gave out popcorn and cotton candy.

The CIT Camp Experience Up at Skyland Ranch, a small group of high school students finished up their experiences at camp. As a Counselor In Training, they stay up in the mountain for two weeks and learn how to be successful leaders. They also get insight on what it is to become a counselor, and the CITs get to bond with each other as well. Apart from leadership training, the CITs also get to participate in regular camp activities. The first week that the girls are up there they do a lot of programming and go over different facts that are needed in becoming a great leader. They cover how to handle different age groups and different situations. They covered how to respond to camper's questions and how to handle troublesome children. The program teaches a lot and helps those who partake in it to grow as a person.

By Caitlin S. At Moses House, they “change lives. [They] offer helping hands and caring hearts to families in crisis, ensuring children grow up in nurturing homes. [They] wrap all of [their] services around each family, offering a framework for building success while providing support to grow.” The girls all had different ideas about why the Moses House is important. Ariana believes the organization is important because they’re helping people get their lives together, while Robin believes that the Moses House is important since they are there to help parents with things they need. Paige says that since they help young parents and kids learn what they need to know the Moses House is significant. Madison says that young mothers who struggle with their babies and need help with supporting their children should go to the Moses House for help. Tori stated that if there is a parent who needs good resources, Moses House is there to help their kid grow with what they need.

By Briana K. Since the CITs are up in the mountains for so long, they have more time to bond with each other and become better friends with one another. They also have more time to bond with the counselors and learn from them as well. Apart from learning to be a counselor, the CITs get to be one for 24 hours. They learn how to put girls to sleep, as well as wake them up in the morning. They also see what the counselors do during the campers me time and during activities through this, the girls learn many skills on how to look after younger kids. Overall, girls that go through this program will learn information on how to be a great camp counselor and leader. It helps them grow as individuals and discover what kind of leader they are.

GCER 2019 The Global Conference on Educational Robotics was held in Norman, Oklahoma in July. It is almost a week long competition and the conference is meant to promote robotics, coding and engineering to all ages. The Kiss Institute for Practical Robotics puts on the event every year. The competition portion is a large board meant to simulate a natural disaster. The robots must try to score as many points in about 2 minutes as they can. They also get creative with the characters. The mayor of Bot City is a blue cube. Some teams went all in, in fact and had their team pins promote the reelection of Mayor Blue Block, or Blocky for short. The very first day of the competition was a practice day. This means that you had almost the whole day to make sure your robot worked. This day is very useful because it allows you to fine-tune and continue coding. This day also featured the first guest speaker: Sharlene Flesher. She works at Stanford University with the brain and robots. She plays with monkeys and gets the monkey's brain to control a robotic arm. This research helped them create robotic arms for people with disabilities. She also spent a fair amount of time talking about women in the field of robotics. She encourages it and wants to ensure that the numbers grow. The first real day of competition is the second day. It begins seeding. The objective of seeding is to score as many points as you can over 3 rounds. The better you do in seeding, the higher bracket you get in for future rounds of the competition. Once you finish seeding, double seeding begins. Double seeding is the same as normal seeding except you are competing against another team. These two rounds of competition are very crucial to your success. Double seeding continues into the third day. It has a total of three rounds. The main thing to do that day is paper sessions. These give the kids and adults at the conference a chance to help people with important information to help their robots succeed. They are all slideshows written by the people at the conference. One that I found particularly interesting was one about how to get a create a line follow. By Create, I mean a Roomba Create that you can use as a vacuum. Line following is a form of code that will get your robot to follow a blackline until it reaches its destination, the end of the black line. The presentation showed easier ways to program a Create to do this because it can be really difficult. It also showed some of the issues you might be running

By Abigail C. into in your program and how to fix it. The second guest speaker of the week was Andra Keay, a woman from New Zealand that now works in Silicon Valley. She spent most of the time talking about the robotics of the future. Technology 1.0, is a very basic idea. Telegraphs and basic phones and the first Model T cars. She says that right now, we are in Technology 2.0. She describes Technology 3.0 as a time of truly smart robots. Robots that don’t need humans to operate, or just robots that are safe to be around humans. Technology 1.0 featured a lot of robots to dangerous to be around the general population. Technology 2.0 is slightly safer, but with Technology 3.0, robots will be completely safe around all humans. The next day is mechanical workshops. These workshops help you with the design process. They are led by one person and your table has to create a claw that matches their description. It is a really good teambuilding exercise, especially if you are at a table with people you don’t know. The final guest speaker, was Mateo Salvatto, CEO of Asteroid, a startup that uses technology to create a more inclusive world. He spoke about how robotics shaped his future in the best possible way. Robotics helped him to be able to travel to other countries and compete in competitions. He also talked about his app - Habano. It is an app that helps people with hearing disabilities communicate with everyone. The final event of the day was double elimination. Here your scores from seeding matter. The lower the score the lower the bracket. However, this can be good. You are competing against teams with similar scores. You have 2 chances to be eliminated. Once you have been eliminated, your time in the competition is done, but it is really fun to support other teams. On the final day, double elimination continues. Once it’s done, the awards are given. The number of awards your team could receive is mind-boggling. You can win awards for your documentation, seeding, double elimination and even for being a team spirit. This allows every team to win something awesome. Once everything is settled, the after-party happened. They fill a room with blow-up activities to play on for hours. This robotics experience is one of the greatest ways to spend a week. You make new friends and you learn something along the way. If you love robotics, then this is the thing to do.

C I E V R E S Y T I N CO M MU Troop 601 Brownie Troop #601 took earning their “Celebrating Community” Badge to the heart of their community. They first met with Hemet/San Jacinto Chamber of Commerce President, Cyndi Lemke, to learn all about our local and national symbols. She taught the girls about what makes a great community, and how we can make our own communities great. The girls learned the National Anthem and sang it loud with friends and family. They learned all about the California State Flag and even made “Grizzly Bear Toast” to celebrate the California State Animal! Of course no meeting with new friends would be complete without a Friendship Squeeze, so they welcomed Cyndi in,

gave her a squeeze and followed it up with the “Make New Friends” song. They wrapped up their Badge by attending the San Jacinto City Council Meeting on October 15, 2019 to lead the attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance. They shook hands with San Jacinto Mayor Russell Utz, Councilmember Crystal Ruiz, and Councilmember Alonso Ledezma. The girls learned the great impact that the people can have by shaping the future of our community with just their words, opinions and actions. Troop #601 is proud to be active members of their community and future community leaders!

Troop 2412 Our Girl Scout Troop 2412, created Project Sparkle a few years ago when we were doing a journey called “Get Moving”.

In order for this to happen though, the scout house needed to look inviting and be a source of pride.

We wanted to go water wise that year because we were in a severe drought and it was really important for us to save water and help our environment. When we realized that the cost was too high, we installed motion sensing lights in the two bathrooms and the kitchen to save energy, and Project Sparkle was put on the back burner.

This first phase of Project Sparkle allowed us to finally go water wise in the front yard. Additionally we were able to update the main meeting rooms so that many more girls can continue their Girl Scout experience within its walls.

In the 3 years since our first idea, the project has grown with us, with intentions of completing our Silver and Gold Awards. The scout house has been valuable to our troop and our scouting experience, so it was very important for us to make sure that other girls can enjoy the scout house as we do, for many years to come.

We are very grateful to Soboba Foundation Inc., for supplying us the grant in order to complete this project, we couldn’t have done any of it without them. We learned a lot from doing this project while working side by side with our Council.

Troop 697

Troop 1311 When the girls in Troop 1311 heard about the homeless students in our school district, they decided to take action. They collected school supplies and helped pack the supplies for Rim of the World Unified School District backpack giveaway. They then formed a partnership with the school district and Mountain Homeless Coalition. For 2 years Troop 1311 has been helping with the Snack Packing Program with Rim of the World Unified School District and Mountain Homeless Coalition. They have purchased snacks and school supplies with their cookie proceeds for the program. The girls have also donated their iCares from both Fall Product and Cookie Sale to the Snack Packing Program.

Troop 10 Troop 10 has become very active within our community, not only do we give back, but we serve our community. We have worked all year long with the Crestline Chamber of Commerce, clearing the trailer of rocks and debris for the duck derby, helping the children hide eggs for the annual egg hunt, pushing the ducks along the lake for the duck derby and made food baskets for the local churches so everyone could have a warm meal for Thanksgiving. We adopted the assisted living program at Mountains Community and do crafts with the elderly there, we sing songs and help them enjoy the time spent with us, we worked the Run Through the Pines with the sheriff's department and then we were invited to give awards to local Vets in our area. We worked with Dixi and planted flowers and trees at Snow Valley for all their help through cookies and are teaming up for the new snow badges. We also cleaned up Newport Beach and were featured on their whale watching flyer. Being so active in our community has taught our troop the value of giving back and being part of something amazing, our community knows if they need people to help with anything they can call us. We have learned to serve others and always lend a helping hand. I asked some girls how they feel, Presleigh 8, "My favorite part of being a Girl Scout is going to the hospital and coloring with all the grandmas." Serena , "My favorite part of Girl Scouts is giving food to people who can’t have Thanksgiving." Taylor 7, "I love cleaning up trash on the lake trail." Holland 12, "I enjoy honoring our Vets for serving the country." Irelynn 6, "I love giving medals to cops."

In honor of Juliette Lowe’s birthday, multilevel Troop 697 (Daisy, Brownie, and Junior) decided to pack birthday bags for foster kids. In our meetings we discussed how kids in foster care have a for-rightnow home, because their parents can’t take care of them at the moment and some things they might like to have for their birthdays to make them feel special. The girls came up with a list of items including: a stuffed animal, blanket, art supplies, journals, small toys (squishies, barbies, chalk, hot wheels, playdoh), and books. We also learned that kids in foster care get a trash bag to load all their belongings in, so the girls decided that a backpack or tote bag of some sort would be good. One of our Brownie’s moms volunteered to solicit donations for the projects and 2 of our local Walmarts donated a ton of supplies for the projects after speaking with our Brownie, Jewelia Chavez, about the project. Brownie, Brianna Grovaz, went shopping with her mom for items to add to the bags. Daisies, Madelynn and Elizabeth Goodman, assisted me in picking out books and stuffed animals for the bags using funds raised by the girls during fall product sales. At our meeting on Oct. 24th the girls wrapped all items and signed cards for each bag. Altogether we were able to put together 20 birthday bags (10 girl bags, 10 boy bags) that included the following items: backpack, journal, art supplies, playdoh, stuffed animal, blanket, book and 2 small toys. I will be delivering the bags to Krystal Shaw at the next volunteer meeting so she can deliver them to child services to be distributed.

Community Partnerships Department develops and retains strategic, cross-functional partners throughout our Council in order to provide a collective impact to our Council as a whole. Our current pillars of focus are built upon:

Community Partnerships

Faith

Advocacy

Develop partnerships and support from our federal,

state and local elected officials advocating the passage of laws that benefit the Girl Scout Movement. GSUSA had built a grassroots network that keeps us appraised on current issues that are important to girls and Girl Scouts.

“The motivating force in Girl Scouting is spiritual. The ways in which members identify and fulfill their spiritual beliefs

are personal and private.” - Girl Scout Constitution GSSGC encourages girls to earn My Promise, My Faith, which helps girls explore how Girl Scouting and their faith offer similar ideas about how to act and how Girl Scouting can tie into their faith.

Girl Scouts Beyond Bars Focuses on building resilience through life skills required to break the

generational cycle of incarceration, while building the mother/daughter relationship. Mother, daughter and guardian are provided with programs that focus on: relationship skills, analytical skills, self-affirmation skills and self-care skills.

HOPE Hermanas as One for Personal Empowerment, as sisters in Girl Scouting, we focus on building partnerships to serve our underserved areas. As Ted Lempert states in his Children Now report “We’re told income inequality in California is among the highest in the US, where some families can’t meet basic needs, even with two parents working fulltime. We’re told the dream of providing a better future for our kids is dying, replaced by an economic reality in which stable employment and a comfortable income are accessible to a few, while the majority are left behind. What gets lost in these conversations is the most powerful solution: investing in quality programs for kids. Not only do children suffer disproportionately from poverty, they also hold the key to ending it. Making sure all children have the support they need to thrive will dramatically lower the poverty rate in the future.”

“To Serve God” Faith - We are currently forming committees to encourage girls to earn their religious rewards

if they choose to do so. If you are interested in learning more please contact Linda Dominguez at ldominguez@gssgc.org or Michele Penn at mpenn@gssgc.org.

“To Serve Our Country” Civic – We are currently forming committees to provide flag ceremony training to our younger girls and a formal color guard for our older girls. If you are interested in learning more please contact Linda Dominguez at ldominguez@gssgc.org or Michele Penn at mpenn@gssgc.org.

Watch for

upcoming information on My Promise, My Faith event coming in February 2020.
