GIRL SCOUTS OF SAN GORGONIO
FALL PROGRAM 2023
Hello GSSGC and welcome to another new and adventurous year of Girl Scouting. We are thankful and ecstatic to start this new year with you. This year brings us so many new and exciting possibilities and opportunities to grow and learn new things! From STEAM to Travel, to prioritizing mental wellness we are here to celebrate and be a part of it all!
The entrepreneurial program offers many opportunities for troops and girls to find success while learning the five key skills this program has to offer. Entrepreneurs blaze their own trail; they strive to create new opportunities, they invent new products, or they are constantly on the lookout to make something better or more accessible to everyone. Our Girl Scout Entrepreneurial program teaches girls the skills they need to use both during the program and well beyond into their adult lives. The mindset of being an entrepreneur starts here and we are thankful that you have chosen to take this journey with us. We are here to help you be successful in this entrepreneurial opportunity. We are here to encourage you, motivate you, and be a source of strength. Empowered women Empower women, we want you to know that we honor you, we believe in you, and we know that you can and will make amazing changes in your communities. Embrace your Girl Power, with this program we encourage you to own your magic!
Yours in Girl Scouting,
Jua-Nita Williams Houston Senior Director of Entrepreneurial Program & Retail
Welcome to the 2023-24 entrepreneurial program year! The theme this year is “Own Your Magic,” and our volunteers and girls are no doubt going to do just that. We believe that every individual possesses unique talents and gifts, their own special brand of magic that can light up the world. We aim to celebrate this extraordinary diversity and potential. The entrepreneurial program is an empowering endeavor that allows girls to make amazing things happen for them, their troop and the community. Entrepreneurial programs are not just about raising funds; they’re about recognizing and embracing the extraordinary within each of us and encouraging everyone to tap into their inner magic and share it with the world.
With the Fall Program getting ready to launch, we invite you to participate and prepare for an exciting year of Girl Scouting. We even have participation options for girls that have not yet found a troop but are ready to begin their experience. We believe that your involvement can be a catalyst for this magical journey and will help us create an unforgettable Girl Scouting experience. Join us and have a magical time!
Yours in Girl Scouting,
Devon Spira Director of Entrepreneurial Program

IEPO
What is it? For girls not affiliated with a participating troop that want to participate in the 2023 Fall Product Program. The Fall Product Program is a financial literacy program, which allows girls to be entrepreneurs and learn and practice the Five Skills: Goal Setting, Decision Making, Money Management, People Skills, and Business Ethics by offering family and friends the opportunity to purchase delicious Nuts, Chocolates and Magazines.
What does she earn? Girl Scouts participating in the IEPO will earn the Standard Girl Reward Plan and Nutty Dough. However, since they are not participating in a troop, they CANNOT earn Proceeds. Instead, they will earn additional IEPO Nutty Dough beyond the standard schedule to use towards GSSGC programming, events, or camp. The IEPO Nutty Dough for the 2023 Fall Program is calculated at $5 for every $100 sold (max $250 in extra Dough).

Cookie Price Change
GSSGC is committed to making thoughtful decisions regarding changes to the Cookie Program. After extensive collaboration with Volunteers, Community Partners, Girls, and Council leadership, we have decided to implement a price increase for the 2024 Cookie Program. The retail price of cookies for 2024 will be increased by $1 per package. Gluten-Free Caramel Chocolate Chip cookies will be $7 per package; all other avors will be priced at $6 per package.
It’s important to note that our sister councils across the West Coast have also implemented price increases on their traditional avors, with many of them doing so last year. This decision has been in uenced by the fact that the cost of everything, including expenses related to the baker, rewards, shipping, travel, utilities, supplies, and more, has risen. These increased costs have impacted not only the Council but also Troops and Regions.
With this price increase, we aim to ensure that Council can maintain the girl rewards that you have come to expect and deserve. Furthermore, it will result in a boost in proceeds for both troops and regions, enabling you to continue providing the high-quality programming that our Girl Scouts deserve.
A revised “How the Cookie Crumbles” is included for you to review and see how the extra funds generated from this price increase will be implemented.

Troop Activities and Travel
As your troop plans your Girl Scout year you will undoubtedly want to add some activities and travel that may require some extra leg work and approval from the GSSGC. We have provided information on the GSSGC website to assist you as you plan. Information for all of these can be found in the Forms section of www.gssgc.org.
Activity Approval Process
Safety Activity Checkpoints is a guide that helps troops think through the safety concerns of any and all activities they might be interested in throughout the year. It contains guidance and safety requirements for anything from adventure sports to using the internet, including the requirement for Council approval or not. Our Girl Scout insurance determines which activities require approval as well as which activities are allowed for which GS levels. The full Safety Activity Checkpoints document can be a very informative and useful tool for troops as they plan their year. Our Activity Approval Process document online can be used as a quick look at the list of activities that do and do not require approval before digging into the checkpoints. The checkpoints are updated regularly by GSUSA to add activities or update their guidance on specific activities.
Some examples of activities that require approval are horseback riding, rock climbing, swimming, and overnights longer than 24 hours, just to name a few. See the complete list in the Activity Approval Process in the Forms section online.
Extended Travel Planning
Extended trips are intended to be girl-planned, girl-led, and girl-learning experiences that are more than two (2) nights and/or more than 700 miles round-trip or any place outside the continental United States. Extended trips are limited to Bridging Juniors, Cadette, Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts. We’ve recently developed Extended Travel Planning, an online document that walks your troop through the steps to planning extended travel. It includes a checklist of requirements for forms, training, and Council approvals, as well as, links to trip planning tools created by GSUSA and GSSGC that help girls and their leaders think through all the steps and details for both domestic and international travel as a troop or travel group.
Troop, Regional, or Service Unit-Hosted Events
Do you or your troop want to plan an event or camp for other Girl Scouts to attend? Do you feel passionate about a topic or a Girl Scout Badge that you want share with other Girl Scouts? Maybe you’re an older girl troop that is interested in raising money for something like travel or a Take Action project? Girl Scout leaders and parents are always looking for events for their Girl Scouts to do that deliver on the Girl Scout Experience. Help them by hosting an event. Individual adults, teams of adults, and troops can host events as part of their region or service unit. Troops that are eligible can host events as a Money Earning Activity (MEA) if approved. Talk to your Region or Service Unit Event Chair for training and help in completing the Intent to Event Application.

It’s Recognition Nomination Time
VOLUNTEERS ARE THE HEARTS AND HANDS OF GIRL SCOUTS IN OUR COUNCIL, and we take pride in recognizing our members for their commitment, volunteer service, and exceptional contributions. The continued celebration of service depends on you to nominate adult Girl Scouts in your communities.
Here is your opportunity to formally recognize those special volunteers that go above and beyond.
https://qrco.de/gssgcrecognitionnomination
If you have questions about Adult Recognitions, contact awards@gssgc.org. There are also volunteers in each region who have experience with Adult Recognitions. Reach out to your local regional or service unit team to find out who they are.
Nominations opened August 1, 2023 and close on December 1, 2023. That’s FOUR whole months to tell us all about the fabulousness going on out there.
Remember, nominations submitted on August 1st are for the 2023 Membership Year–covering services provided from October 1, 2022 through September 30, 2023. Please save any current services (Membership year 2024) for next year’s nominations, as the committee will not be able to consider them in the current year’s nomination process.
Make sure that if you nominate a recipient, you inform those you’ve asked to show support of the nomination. Remind them that they need to follow-up and submit their own supporting nomination for the package to be complete.
Your local Adult Recognitions volunteers will also be following up with emails. However, nothing beats that personal touch and a reminder of why the nominee is such a fabulous volunteer!
Higher Awards
You shine brightest when you’re making the world a better place. That’s why you can earn three separate awards—the Girl Scout Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards—as you dream of a better tomorrow and take action in big ways today.
Juniors earn the Bronze Award by teaming up with other girls to make a difference in their towns.
Cadettes earn the Silver Award by researching an issue, making a plan to address it, and then taking action to improve their communities.
Get
Seniors and Ambassadors earn the Gold Award— the highest award in Girl Scouting—by developing and carrying out lasting solutions to issues in their neighborhoods and beyond. Gold Award Girl Scouts truly are the world changers, rock stars, role models, and real-life heroes we all look up to. Plus, they’re amazing candidates for colleges, scholarships, competitive internship programs, and exciting careers.

“I started going camping when I was six years old. It was nerve-racking at first, but then I started having fun and the week went by so fast. I went every year until I was old enough to participate in the LEAP (a leadership program for Cadettes) and then CIT (Counselor-InTraining) program. I learned leadership skills, how to care for those younger than me, how to be spontaneous, and much more. Camp has always been a big part of my life and I can never forget the experiences I had, the friends I’ve made, and the people I grew to love and cherish.”

SKYLAND RA NCH CAMP
Skyland Ranch provides outdoor experiences to develop girls’ leadership potential by allowing them to discover their values and the world around them; connect with others in a multicultural environment; and take action to make a difference in their world. We continue to upgrade the facilities and resources at this vast 191-acre camp in our pursuit to make it selfsustainable. Skyland Ranch is first and foremost a Girl Scout Camp, a place where programming features a variety of fun and challenging activities that empower girls as they develop skills and behaviors essential to effective leadership. The camp is now also an effective community resource for the schools in our region who engage in programming at the facility during the school year. This past school year we succeeded in serving over 3,500 students at Skyland Ranch! The community also came to our aid as members from the California Conservation Corps put in a massive amount of hard work in cutting the trees, clearing branches, and beautifying the area to continue making Skyland Ranch a safe place.
So many great things for camp are happening and we are not done yet! We were successful in raising the funds needed for the initial investment to begin preparing Camp Azalea Trails to reopen and plan to schedule an open house in the spring. More details will follow at a later date. While Azalea Trails is being prepped, the beautiful Camp Wi-Wo-Ca is available for our troops to experience the outdoors. Many individuals, corporations, and foundations have chosen to contribute to our camps over the years and we invite you to join them in preserving our camps for future generations. Please go to www.gssgc.org/donate and make a gift today!
To discuss major gift and naming opportunities, email Jernine McBride at jmcbride@gssgc.org or call her at 909-534-2473.

The Daisy Society
Before a Girl Scout sails around the world or designs their own fashion line, they need to believe they can do it.
Invest in our local Girl Scouts and make those dreams a reality. Then watch as they discover new interests and chase their dreams—with the pride of knowing you helped make it possible.
Your gift will be used to ensure local Girl Scouts gain the skills and confidence needed to accept challenges, overcome obstacles, and become leaders. Plus, every dollar you give stays right here in our community!
Thank you for all you do for the girls in our communities.
