FOR our Girl Scouts whose Girl Scouting journey will end at the end of this Girl Scout year, we are so incredibly thankful that Girl Scouting has been such a big part of your lives, we wish you much success as you begin your new journey into adulthood and Alumna status. We know that you will do great things. For our Girl Scouts that are still making this Girl Scouting journey, we are so honored that you have chosen to continue to believe in this mission and are still taking this journey alongside us. We too are learning and growing from each of you, we need you to guide us and to teach us where we can be
IT’S hard to believe that we are at the beginning of another new Girl Scout year. Every new year brings new opportunities for more growth, fun and excitement. As we leave the summer months behind and jump into fall, we can look forward to new adventures and opportunities with excitement. We look forward to connecting again with our Girl Scout sisters and friends. Every Girl Scout that is a member of this powerful movement has taken a journey these last couple of years. We know that this journey has not been easy, but you have persevered and risen to conquer each new challenge or obstacle that has come your way. This journey has brought all of us joy, sorrow, and much time for reflection. It has also brought us a chance at growth. In all your journeys we want you to know that we see you! In your struggles and in all your glory, we see you and we want you to know that each one of you has been an inspiration to all of us here at council. You are each powerful and phenomenal in your
WELCOME to the 2022-23 Entrepreneurial Program year. Girl Scouting and the Entrepreneurial Program offers girls the opportunity to learn and practice new skills, gain knowledge and confidence, and interact with and give back to their community. One of the most important keys to success is a positive attitude! Negativity is an obstacle we must all work to overcome. If you have already decided you will fail, then you will. Our task is to stay motivated and shine brightly with so much optimism and positivity that it spreads to those around us. This allows us to see opportunities in the challenges we face and to be creative in our solutions. So, it is fitting that the motto this year is “Go Bright Ahead”!
We have listened to the feedback from volunteers and girls and have made a few
own way. We have watched you find your voice and act; we have watched you rise above and continue to not only believe in yourselves, but in this mission. We have watched you draw strength from people and situations and use those to help better not only yourselves but the community and the people around you. We have watched you strive to reach your full potential and it has been glorious to see!
changes to the Fall Program in 2022 to reflect the desires and needs of the troops. First, we are keeping it simple! Girl delivery product will only be available via the pre-paid Online Girl Delivery option in M2 to avoid the need for families or Troop Coordinators to have to collect money and make bank deposits, or input order card orders into the system. The Direct Ship option and Magazines will also be available online throughout the duration of the program. We have also modified the Girl Rewards and Troop Proceeds. With delayed production and shipping times along with the diverse interests of the girls, we have reduced the physical rewards to just a few themed items, while increasing the Nutty Dough opportunity. This allows girls to personalize their rewards more to their liking, whether it be some fun items from our shops, or apply their rewards toward

helpful and useful to you. As we get ready for the Fall Entrepreneurial Program, please remember that selflove and self-care are good things! Not only are they good, but they are also so important. You and only you can set your goals, always celebrate differences. Remember, YOU are always worth it! Never compare yourself to others, you are amazing just as you are! We can’t wait to see what this new year holds for all of us.
Thank you for joining us and starting this year off with less stress, more fun and optimistic goals that we will all reach together.

Diversity is about difference. A group has diversity when the people present (e.g., our organization’s girl members, volunteers, staff) re ect differences across socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, physical ability, gender, sexual orientation, age, education, religion, political beliefs, and so on. Different groups re ect different forms and degrees of diversity—and the Girl Scout Constitution calls for our membership to re ect the pluralistic nature of our communities.
Girl Scouts Stands Against Racism and Pledges to Work for a Just Society for All
DEI:
Girl Scouts of San Gorgonio Council will not tolerate racism in any form. We are committed to providing an anti-racist environment built through meaningful and lasting work in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI).
Equity is about seeking to give everyone access to the same opportunities while acknowledging that we don’t all start from the same place. Through equitable practices, people are given the support they need to have an experience (e.g., participate in Girl Scouts). Tackling this part of the work requires that we understand the underlying causes of disparities in, for example, health, educational, and employment outcomes among different Whendemographics.
inclusion is happening, people who are present feel a sense of belonging (e.g., have a voice, hold leadership positions, feel Girl Scouts is for them). In the words of inclusion strategist, social commentator, author, and Net ix’s VP of inclusion strategy Vernā Myers, “Diversity is being asked to the party; inclusion is being asked to dance.” While a truly inclusive group is necessarily diverse, a diverse group may or may not be inclusive.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
What do the terms in DEI mean? What do they mean in the context of Girl Scouting?
Diversity & Inclusion Action Team:
The Diversity & Inclusion Action Team is a committee of staff, volunteer, and older girl members that is focused on upholding the Council’s Anti-racism & Antidiscrimination Policy, which states:
3
Are you passionate about diversity, equity, and inclusion? Do you want to be more involved in our Council to ensure our Girl Scouts feel welcomed, respected and included?
If you want to learn more about the values of the Diversity & Inclusion Action Team and our Council, visit Girl Scouts’ Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) page on our website and if you are interested in joining the Action Team, please email Chief of Member Services Debra Donnell at ddonnell@gssgc.org.
“Girl Scouts of San Gorgonio Council will not tolerate racism in any form. We are committed to providing an anti-racist environment that ensures all girls of color and culture feel supported, welcomed, and treated with dignity and respect. Our Council will take action to support all girls, volunteers, alums, staff and family members to ensure a more equitable organization that does not tolerate racial injustice...”
Another critical aspect of Girl Scouting is the support from troop leaders, volunteers, and family members. It is up to all of us to nurture and empower the next generation of Girl Scout leaders.
4
Our Council is working hard to ensure what girls need to be successful all year long is available to the troop leaders, volunteers, and families who interact with and impact the girls in their daily lives. We know that the only way to succeed in reaching the mission of Girl Scouting is together.
The five key skills are an important aspect of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and the overall mission of Girl Scouting: To build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. The skills girls gain will help them not only during the Entrepreneurial Programs, but throughout their lives.
Council operations and offices will be closed on the dates below whether offices are open to the public or remote working environment is still being observed.

Dear Girl Scouts of San Gorgonio Families, Friends, and Volunteers,
Cynthia H. Breunig President and CEO
As we enter the 2023 Girl Scout membership year, we welcome all of our new Girl Scouts, families, and volunteers who are joining the organization for the first time, and we welcome back all those who are returning for another year of Girl Scout fun. The year promises to be full of adventures and opportunities.
We begin this year with the Fall Entrepreneurial Program. Girls who participate will have a great introduction to the five key skills: Goal Setting, Decision Making, Money Management, People Skills, and Business Ethics. Through these skills, Girl Scouts will begin to think creatively, like innovators and entrepreneurs, to grow their own businesses and reach their goals, all while earning proceeds to fund their troops’ adventures.

Why? Because it helps:
Girl Scouting provides the best opportunities for girls when families step up and play an active part in the troop. Without meaningful support from parents, it’s dif cult for a troop to be all it can be. Plus, girls feel a special sense of pride when their families take part and show interest in the things they are doing!
Families understand what Girl Scouting can do for their girl.
Check out our step-by-step guide and parent meeting outline in the Volunteer Toolkit. You can access the Volunteer Toolkit via MyGS.

As your troop plans your Girl Scout year, you will undoubtedly want to add some activities and travel that may require some extra legwork and approval from Council. We have provided information in the Forms section on GSSGC’s website to assist you as you plan. Visit www.gssgc.org and use the bolded keywords below to search the forms section.
ApprovalActivityProcess
Girl Scouts’ Safety Activity Checkpoints (SAC) is a guide that helps troops think through the safety concerns of any and all activities they might be interested in throughout the year. It contains guidance and safety requirements for activities ranging from adventure sports to using the internet and notes which activities require Council approval. Our Girl Scout insurance determines what activities require approval and are permitted at each Girl Scout level. The SAC can be a very informative and useful tool for troops as they plan their year. Before digging into the full document, check out the online Activity Approval Process form for a quick look at which activities require approval. The SAC is updated regularly by GSUSA with guidance on existing or new activities.
Troop, Regional, or Service Unit Hosted Events
Extended trips are intended to be girl-planned, girl-led, and girl-learning experiences that are more than two (2) nights and/or more than 700 miles round-trip or any place outside of the continental United States. Extended trips are limited to Bridging Junior, Cadette, Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts. We’ve recently developed Extended Travel Planning, an online document that walks your troop through the steps of planning extended travel. It includes a checklist of required forms, trainings, and Council approvals, as well as links to trip planning tools created by GSUSA and GSSGC to help girls and their leaders think through all the details for both domestic and international travel as a troop or travel group.
Do you or your troop want to plan an event or camp for other Girl Scouts to attend? Do you feel passionate about a topic or a Girl Scout Badge that you want share with other Girl Scouts? Maybe you’re an older girl troop interested in raising money for something like travel or a Take Action project? Girl Scout leaders and parents are always looking for events for their Girl Scouts that deliver on the Girl Scout Experience. Help them by hosting an event. Individual adults, teams of adults, and troops can host events as part of their region or service unit. Troops that are eligible can host events as a Money Earning Activity (MEA) (subject to approval). Talk to your Region or Service Unit Event Chair for training and help in completing the Intent to Event Application.
Some examples of activities that require approval are horseback riding, rock climbing, swimming, overnights longer than 24 hours, just to name a few. See the complete list in the Activity Approval Process form, found in the Forms section of our website.

Are you passionate about the outdoors or leadership development? Do you have tips and tricks from years of Girl Scouting that you would like to share with other leaders? If this sounds like you–and you’re ready for a new challenge with Girl Scouts–consider becoming a trainer. Trainers collaborate with staff and other trainers to develop and deliver trainings that support the next generation of leaders and adult volunteers, who help build girls of courage, con dence, and character.

Get the trainings and resources you need to help your girls shine!
Have you enjoyed Girl Scout training? Could you see yourself helping new volunteers and older girls?
As a volunteer organization, we rely on trainers to help provide the most accurate information to new volunteers taking on leadership roles; current volunteers wanting more experience; and older girls wanting to learn additional leadership skills. If you love Girl Scouting, this is a great way to volunteer. Trainers are needed in all areas of the Council (especially more rural areas) to bring training closer to each Girl Scout Service Unit. Trainers are adults who work effectively with other adults and/or older girls and serve as role models for adult volunteers. If you would like to become a Council trainer register for the 1st annual Train the Trainer course on Saturday, October 8, 2022 from 9:00am–4:00pm at the Redlands Program Center.

ARE THE HEARTS AND HANDS OF GIRL SCOUTS IN OUR COUNCIL, and we take pride in recognizing our members for their commitment, volunteer service, and exceptional contributions. The continued celebration of service depends on you to nominate adult Girl Scouts in your Herecommunities.isyouropportunity to formally recognize those special volunteers that go above and beyond.
Confusing? Let us explain. If you were a Junior working on your Bronze Award and you just completed 5th grade, you have until September 30, 2022 to complete your project and turn in your nal report via email to awards@gssgc.org
If you have questions about Adult Recognitions, contact awards@gssgc.org. There are also volunteers in each region who have experience with Adult Recognitions. Reach out to your local regional or service unit team to nd out who they are.
If you were a Cadette working on your Silver Award and you just completed 8th grade, you have until September 30, 2022 to complete your project and turn in your nal report via email to awards@gssgc.org
Higher Awards
Nominations opened August 1, 2022 and close on December 1, 2022. That’s FOUR whole months to tell us all about the fabulousness going on out there.
VOLUNTEERSonline.
Remember, nominations submitted on August 1st are for the 2022 Membership Year–covering services provided from October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2022. Any mention of current services (Membership Year 2023) will be discarded, and the nomination marked null and void.
If you were an Ambassador working on your Gold Award and you just completed 12th grade, you have until September 30, 2022 to complete your project and turn in your nal report via email to GoGold
I know we’re all really excited to come back to troop this fall, but don’t forget, there is an important deadline coming.
Your local Adult Recognitions volunteers will also be following up with emails. However, nothing beats that personal touch and a reminder of why the nominee is such a fabulous volunteer!
If you have any questions, please reach out to awards@gssgc.org
For those members working on a higher award who also just bridged out of a previous program level, the deadline for your nal report is coming up quickly.
It’s Recognition Nomination Time
Make sure that if you nominate a recipient, you inform those you’ve asked to show support of the nomination. Remind them that they need to follow-up and submit their own supporting nomination for the package to be complete.

note, the restroom and shower facilities adjacent to Duncan Lodge were completed and the U.S. Bank Environmental Learning Laboratory celebrated its grand opening at the Silver Barn in May. Also at Skyland Ranch, we have embarked on a $470,000 project to upgrade the Wishaven restrooms and shower facilities. Other ambitious projects will be announced shortly—all to ensure the camp experience remains safe, comfortable, and fun.
“Girl Scout camp is an amazing experience that I am proud to have been a part of. This allowed me to grow independently and gain an appreciation for the natural world. Seeing the untouched wilderness and learning what I can do to create change inspired me to help even more. At camp I learned important life skills that no text book could ever teach me and while school teaches facts Girl Scout camp allowed me to see and experience even more. The experience impacted my character and encouraged me to be the change.”
To discuss a major gift and naming opportunities, email Knea Hawley at khawley@gssgc.org or give her a call at 951-751-7359.

In June we moved into Girl Scout resident camp season--and what a success that was, with 585 girls in attendance! Girls learned how to ride and care for horses, exhibited courage at the ropes course, practiced con dence by leading songs, gained independence, and shared the joy of Girl Scout sisterhood. The experiences gained will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

COVID meant financial need for more of our Girl Scout families, it created more expenses for our Council with the new protocols for sanitizing and protection. Most of all, our revenue streams from cookie sales, program fees and philanthropy were severely negatively impacted. I am asking for your help. You can make a difference by joining San Gorgonio’s Daisy Society. This is our annual giving society that provides financial resources for the most urgent needs for our girls. If you are already a member, thank you for your commitment. If you are not a member, will you consider joining today? Your gift of $20 a month or more automatically makes you a member and you will be making an immediate, positive difference in the life of a girl. Thank you for all you do for the girls in our communities.

What a year! Despite restrictions and challenges, GSSGC volunteers and staff worked together in creative ways for the good of the girls in our communities. Girl Scouts and Girl Scout alumni are resilient and meet challenges without hesitation every time. Zoom became our link to one another. It became our best friend and, sometimes, our worst enemy. Now that the world is cautiously opening back up, much remains to be done for our girls.
