Jane Fairchild and Larry Brophy

Featured artists for April are Larry Brophy and Jane Fairchild. Larry describes himself as a “jack of all trades and master of some.” Larry calls his wood creations “functional art.” Finding a beautiful way to solve a daily problem led him to create tissue box holders made from solid hardwoods that double as art for any room in the house. His 3-D wine glass cover “Gnat Caps” are inspired by his love of drinking wine outdoors without the added protein of gnats and moths.

Jane makes Fiber Flings, which are lightweight yarn and bead necklaces that can add pizzazz to any outfit. Many customers comment that Fiber Flings have the fluffiness of a scarf, without needing any expertise to tie it correctly. She also makes ceramic phone holder scrolls and the popular ceramic scrolls used for name tags for guests or to describe food items at potlucks or dinner parties.

Spring Has Arrived

It’s time to make sure those empty pots in front yards are filled with living plants, cactus or flowers. With all the rain we had early this year, weeds are popping up everywhere. When weeds are small, they are easy to remove. Wildflowers are allowed in our community until after they finish blooming, at which time they, too, need to be removed. Trim any trees that block stop signs, or shrubs that overhang the sidewalk or street, as they also grew during our winter rains. Remember, no artifacts of any kind are allowed in front yards including the painted rocks that lifted our spirits during lockdown.

Winter residents should be sure that someone maintains their yards during the summer months, so the home looks cared for while they are away. Do notify the Administration of your summer address in case they need to reach you. Continue to take pride in your property even when you are not on site, so that it will look just as nice upon your return as when you left.

Posse Chair Linda Simōn 520-789-7169 posse@5LP.com First Tue., 3 PM, Desert Oasis www.scovaz.com/committees/posse/ (must be logged in first)

Why do we have the Posse? It creates greater awareness of crime trends and helps reduce crime in our area. It also serves as a warning to criminals, and makes it harder for them to operate in SCOV. The Posse increases effectiveness of law enforcement, because it’s better to work with officials to investigate suspicious activity before, rather than after, a crime has occurred. It reduces the risk of becoming a crime victim and in turn reduces the physical, financial and psychological costs of crime and the Posse increases surveillance in our area by providing an extra set of eyes and ears.

Call Linda Simōn for more information.
