Kathy Dunn’s seahorse
Come by the Artisan Center/Lapidary Room on Saturday morning and meet some wood carvers, see what projects they each are working on and maybe get started on a relief carving like the one pictured here that Kathy Dunn just finished. If you think you might be interested in wood carving, we can help you get started with basswood, tools, a project and some basic instruction. If you are already a wood carver, bring your tools and a project, and join the conversation.

Wood Shop display case
The SCOV Woodworking Club is approaching 200 active members. New to woodworking or experienced, all residents are welcome.
Many of our woodworkers are talented artists who just happen to work with wood. Our featured woodworker this month is Ed Peters, the display case coordinator. Located in the craft center near the woodshop door, the display case features a cross section of our SCOV woodworker craftsmanship.
Ed is a SCOV part-timer and a resident for four years. A retired phone company engineer and new to woodworking, Ed has become a talented craftsman. He encourages all SCOV residents to stop by the display case and marvel at the beauty being created here.
A new member orientation is held at the Wood Shop the first Wednesday of each month at 4 PM. Call Bill Norton at 480-980-5493 for further instructions. For questions or more information, please visit the website or call an officer.

Messier 51 (M51), better known as the Whirlpool Galaxy, is a famous granddesign spiral galaxy. Messier 51 is one of the easiest Messier objects to find on a clear night with binoculars, as it lies in the vicinity of the Big Dipper asterism. The galaxy is positioned only 3.5 degrees southwest of the star that marks the end of the Dipper’s handle. See if you can locate it. M-51, the Whirlpool Galaxy, as photographed by member Jim Pastore
