his bathroom remodel was a single phase of a large home renovation that involved designing a master plan and constructing it in separate phases. Through addressing all of the clients’ wishes and needs from the start, the master design plan ensures that each remodeling phase is cohesive with the next and supports the final goal without requiring any “steps backwards.” At the same time, a comprehensive budget was achieved for everything from the start as well! The entrance into this bathroom was originally located down the hall, right across from the main entry into the home and was essentially, the first
sight that greeted guests. While this focal point was not the greatest, the bathroom door was also located closer to the public zone of the home and farther from the private bedrooms. Since we knew that this bathroom’s entrance was an issue of the clients’ and that the hallway closet was not really needed for anything other than linen storage, we opted to mirror

the bathroom layout; relocating the entry door and plumbing locations. In doing so, we were able to incorporate a recessed display cabinet where the entry door once was and now serves as a more pleasant focal point for visiting guests. While moving this much plumbing may have seemed unnecessary or even proved cost prohibitive to most, this move was a part of the original
master plan and the plumbing was easily accessed through the ceiling of the bathroom below; which was remodeled at the same time. This extensive planning and ceiling access allowed these plumbing changes to take place in a cost effective manner and the resulting new layout incorporates many upgraded features. The new vanity cabinet is slightly wider and taller than the original and incorporates additional storage, a pull-out hamper, and a larger sink. A recessed medicine cabinet and a tall linen cabinet accompany the vanity to maximize storage in this standard sized bathroom. Additional upgrades include a deeper soaking tub with dual shower heads, a modern styled com-

The finishing materials were driven by the initial selection of the floor tile; a beautifully glazed ceramic penny tile that incorporates a soft palette of blues, greens, and yellows. A 10x20 wall tile was specified for the shower surround and backsplash. The buttery-yellow
hue of this tile directly ties in with the floor mosaic and frames the recessed shower alcove that incorporates the same penny round tile. Not only is this shower alcove functional, but the accent tile façade allows the user to appreciate its glazing effect at eye level. Espresso stained cabinetry and white plumbing fixtures provide a much needed contrast against this softer color palette and relates to the cabinetry accents located in other areas of the home. Honey Lime Chicken Skewers (requires 2hr marinade) 2 Tbs Alaskan Honey 3Tbs soy sauce 1 tsp olive oil 1lb chicken breast strips, or tenders Wooden skewers, soak in water 30 min In small bowl whisk all wet ingredients together and marinate chicken for at least two hours, once skewers have been soaked at least a half hour, skewer chicken on sticks and grill on med to high heat for eight minutes or so until chicken is fully cooked. My girls love these over brown rice for a simple dinner as well as a great appetizer and party food.

1 cup chopped nuts Preheat oven to 325, line or grease two cookie sheets. In a small bowl, combine all dry ingredients except salt and mix well. In mixer or mixing bowl cream together butter until light in color, add honey and salt mix for five minutes, stir in sour cream and vanilla, add flour mixture in batches until well blended and fold in nuts and raisins.
