New YouTube Features An announcement went out recently highlighting several new features introduced, or soon to be introduced, to YouTube including: custom thumbnails, series playlists, free live streaming and external annotations.
http://youtubecreator.blogspot.jp/2013/08/investing-in-you-more-tools-tobuild.html From the announcement: “Start live streaming if you have 100+ subscribers: All channels in good standing with at least a hundred subscribers will be able to live stream, within the next few weeks. Check your Account Features page for an “Enable” button, and click it if you're interested. Choose your best thumbnail: Help your video stand out by using a custom thumbnail. Make sure you only upload images that are representative of what viewers will see, like prominent stills from the video. Program related videos for viewers: Help viewers watch more of your videos by placing them in a series playlist. When you group videos that belong together, we’ll show viewers of your videos the next episode from the series and a link to the whole playlist. Just mark your playlist as a “series” in the playlist settings.” Most interesting is the ability to make "Associated Website Annotations" which means you can link directly to a product page from a video which opens a host of opportunities for eCommerce websites: “Drive traffic to your merch: Want viewers to buy that new t-shirt you’re wearing in your video? You can now use annotations to link externally to various online stores and your associated websites.”

New & Improved Google Adwords Panel In the last week Google have released a new tool known as ‘Google Display Planner’ that combines the best features from the ‘Contextual Targeting Tool’, ‘Placement Tool’ and the ‘Google Ad Planner’. This is a new research and planning tool for display activity made simple in one easy to find place under the ‘Tools & Analysis’ section of Adwords. The ‘Contextual Targeting Tool’ and the ‘Placement Tool’ will soon if not already be removed from Adwords, with the ‘Google Ad Planner’ being sunset in early September. This means that any media plans and site lists saved within ‘Google Ad Planner’ will need to be exported and saved before this deadline, to ensure you do not lose any important data.

Google Introduce Updated Time Comparison In UI This week Google announced an extension to the existing date comparison feature in Adwords. While previously an advertiser could only view performance comparisons between to varying dates through the graph above the data tables, advertiser will now be able to see this data side by side in actual numerical comparative figures:
Once an advertiser has chosen their dates to compare, they will be able to see comparative figures including ‘% change’ by clicking on the ‘+’ extension in the data tables.
A feature that is not so well advertised is the added ability to also filter performance by these comparative figures, including for example filtering by ‘% change’ in a certain metric:
This should make advertisers’ lives much easier, and limit the need to download vasts arrays of data into excel to manipulate and compare, and more time to action optimisisations through the Adwords UI.
