The Effectiveness of Mobile ads in Driving Traffic to a Website The majority of us would not leave the house (intentionally) without a smartphone, would you agree? It not only helps us stay connected, but it allows us to search for information and act on it instantly, wherever we are. Google, in their latest study, explores exactly how much of a role mobile search ads play in driving traffic?

This research was built on an earlier study, which was looking at the relationship of search ads and organic search results. The results showed that mobile ads have a significant impact and are complementary to organic search results. Image source: Google

Best practice tips for SEO Recently Trond Lynbø from Search Engine Land wrote an article explaining the three key mistakes to avoid in SEO and how these could be affecting your business; the main points are summarised below. Google offers huge growth for B2C and B2B businesses, even companies that are offline depend on Google, as customers are driven there. SEO can therefore be seen as being mandatory rather than optional by some; below some best practice tips are outlined relating to common SEO mistakes. At SMG we can implement SEO strategies for our clients to help them gain more success online. 1)

Being Stuck in the Past

The digital landscape is ever-changing so businesses need to keep up to date with new developments. Investing in analytics is therefore a worthwhile investment which allows you to plan for tomorrow. Build dashboards with your analytics tools that are actionable and contain

information you can act upon. Ask questions about performance and focus on what improves effectiveness-not just getting more traffic, but actually by “increasing sales, growing business and becoming more cost-effective”. An SEO team uses analytics to look backward which can help you to gain further insights into your performance. Be measurable; track and analyse the value of what you spend time and money on. 2) A Lack of Integration “Where many leaders fail is in setting up integrated multi-channel sales and marketing efforts, guided by a unified strategy that creates synergy and strengthens each component of the whole. There is crucial interdependency between Search Engines, Social Media, PR, Mobile Units and how successful you are at getting more local customers and sales for your local business(es). There is plenty of low hanging fruit ripe for the plucking — if you have the right strategy”(as summarised by Trond Lynbø). 3) Short-Term Thinking and Budgeting The importance of SEO is often underestimated and is an investment which can often pay off in a big way. SEO can contribute largely to revenue and for many businesses it is the largest contributor. However, often only a small portion of a business’ marketing budget is set aside for SEO; increasing the budget can lead to reaching financial and strategic goals faster. Following these tips can help you to get the most out of an SEO campaign which in turn can help your business to grow if implemented correctly. SEO is not a quick-fix but when a well thought out strategy is put together, the results can be well worth it.
