Not Provided Google Searches To Hit 100% As we learned earlier this week that Google are to transition entirely to secure search, many search practitioners having been voicing their opinions across the internet about what this means for SEO going forwards. According to a website (http://www.notprovidedcount.com) set up to track the ever increasing (not provided), (not provided) now accounts for 78.62% (as of 26th September). They also predict that this figure at current projectory will reach 100% on 21st November 2013!

SMG clients have also seen a similar figure with some seeing (not provided) hit the lower 80%s in the last couple of weeks, as this day could come even sooner for some advertisers. Many experts have questioned Google’s decision to make these sudden changes and he motives behind them. Search practitioners meanwhile have been busy suggesting new methods to help track organic search queries including the use of webmaster tools, the new paid vs. organic search functionality in Adwords as well as utilising other non-Google search engines for these insights. Whichever method practitioners opt for, this change definitely looks to be making a stir in the SEO industry right now.

Google’s Hummingbird arrives on 15th Birthday As Google celebrate 15 years with a playable Piñata doodle game on the Google home page, they have also launched a massive algorithmic update known as ‘Hummingbird’ that will reportedly affect 90% of searches worldwide.

Speaking at a special press event Amit Singhal, Google Senior VP, had the following to say about this release earlier in the week: "Our algorithm had to go through some fundamental rethinking of how we are going to keep our results relevant," - Amit Singhal, Google Senior VP

The new algorithm it has been claimed will be better equipped to understand concepts, relationships and longer questions entered by the user. This seems to be a change in-line with the future of Google search engine to allow more conversational based and voice recognised search queries to be even more impactful and relevant. As our industry ventures ever deeper into mobile, it seems Google have planned this algorithm with mobile and voice search in mind to give users the experience that has previously been lacking from their product.

It will be interesting to see how search rankings and strategies are impacted by this update as practitioners get to grips with the inevitable changes this will bring in the coming months.
