Google Keyword Planner Now Indicates Trademarked Terms – 4th December 2013 Google recently started to show keyword terms that are trademarked in the Adword Keyword Planner tool. However, there does appear to be some inconsistency in how Google identifies trademarked, TM, terms. Not all trademarked terms will show up with the trademark identifier. Although, there does appear to be an inconsistency with the ‘TM’ identifier, the new feature is still beneficial to advertisers. Was 2013 The Year of Miley Cyrus? According to Yahoo’s Year in Review site, Miley Cyrus has topped the search trends list for 2013. No doubt, the likes of her appearance at the MTV VMA’s and her major releases this year have driven to this increased interest, demonstrated by ‘Wrecking Ball’ and ‘twerking’ also both appearing in top 10 lists in other categories on the site. Interestingly,

Miley Cyrus has been out of the top search list since 2010 but her media focus this year has certainly led to an increase in interest. The list in full: 1. Miley Cyrus 2. Kim Kardashian 3. Kate Upton 4. Minecraft 5. Selena Gomez 6. Obamacare 7. Amanda Bynes 8. Jodi Arias 9. iPhone 5 10. Justin Bieber The majority of these searches are celebrity-focused in intent, with a few political and technology searches too. This is similar to the 2012 list with Kim Kardashian and the iPhone 5 both appearing last year too. We are awaiting the release of Google’s 2013 Zeitgeist which will wrap up Google’s search trends for 2013 too.

In fact, the only way to distinguish the ads is through the yellow ‘Ad’ icon. There is a light grey line which also separates the above organic ad listings.
