ISSUE 122 – 07th February 2014 Yahoo Getting Back Into PPC? Recent news from Yahoo suggests that they are looking into ending the 10 year alliance they have with Microsoft for search. This comes as comScore data recently had Yahoo's search share down to 0.4% in Dec in the US. The problem from Yahoo's perspective is that their search algorithm is currently managed by Microsoft and as their revenue from search grows, Yahoo want to be back in control of this lucrative side of their business. Reports suggest that Yahoo are developing new search products, potentially to leverage change in their alliance agreement. Google’s Crack Down on “Fraudulent” YouTube Views YouTube visitors watch more than six billion hours of video every month [http://www.youtube.com/yt/press/en-GB/statistics.html] or so it has been claimed. But what if some of these “visitors” are not actually human? It may not come as a surprise to you that channel owners will try to inflate their view counts artificially given the amount of benefits from successfully gaming the view count system brings you (increased video visibility, web fame and an increase to the amount of money you could make). The movement to crack down on fraudulent views came to light in an announcement made by Google’s Philipp Pfeiffenberger [http://googleonlinesecurity.blogspot. co.uk/2014/02/keeping-youtubeviews-authentic.html] saying that they will be “periodically auditing the views a video has received”.

YouTube’s change in quality assurance hasn’t come without its forewarnings. You probably won't get what you paid for...” "…Views generated by some third-party businesses and services will not be counted on YouTube, and can lead to disciplinary action against your account, including removing your video or suspending your account." – The YouTube Team Shared by: Paul O’Gorman Read more information: http://bit.ly/1kbb0pU
Large Video Embedded in Google Search Results When searching for video related content Google may return a large, playable video at the top of the page. The content seems to be sourced from YouTube and can be played directly on the search page. Last year Google has already been testing larger video formats on tablet devices and the larger thumbnails show up for the first video result on tablet devices.
