Google Panda 4.0 Arrives A new algorithm update, called “Panda 4.0”, has been released by Google into its search engine. This has been officially confirmed by Matt Cutts – the “Head of Webspam” at Google - on his Twitter feed on the 20th May. All previous “Panda” updates, AKA “Farmer Updates”, have endeavoured to lower the rankings of websites that try to target specific, high search-volume keywords with poorly written, “spammy” content. “Panda” itself has had numerous revisions and small “refreshes” over its lifetime (since its birth in the US in February 2011 - globally in August of the same year). The latest (fourth) instalment, although “soft and gentle” in the way in which it assess websites for rankings – has been projected to have a visible impact as large as 7.5% on English related search queries by searchengineland.com. Q: So what does this actually mean? A: It means that if you want to be found in Google (organically) it’s now more important than before to ensure your website produces quality content that your users find useful because Matt Cutts has said: “It's the quality content that will be higher up in the Google search rankings.”
