Companies Increasing Spend on PPC & SEO in 2014 E-Consultancy’s annual UK benchmark report has shown that search budgets are set to rise, with 58% and 55% planned increases for PPC and SEO respectively (see image); up from 55% and 51% in 2013. The same was true for Social marketing and Conversion Rate Optimisation (CRO) spend, whilst Display advertising registered a slight dip. This was but one of five key insights from the survey. Other findings include companies highlighting the need for their marketing budgets to be more flexible, with 44% saying their budgets are not split by channel, citation of problems with tracking ROI through SEO and to a lesser degree PPC and a general apathy towards Google+ as a social marketing platform, despite continued efforts by Google to push this offering. Information surrounding the report’s findings can be found at the link below.

While channels such as social (76%) and analytics (71%) tend to be dealt with in-house, search (42%) and display (35%) for example do not show such clear trends. The remainder of the businesses not looking after their search and display activity in-house tend to work with agencies either entirely or partially, as a number of factors such as resources and business priorities.
