Secure Sites To Get Google Ranking Boost A recent announcement from Google has encouraged sites to switch to the more secure https sites (from http). Previously, Google have encouraged this from a web user safety perspective, but the suggested ranking improvement should incentivise webmasters to make the switch, where applicable. Sites that were analysed showed higher relevancy and subsequent ranking, although the improvement was said to be modest and only cover around 1% of all Google search engine traffic. However, since Google are keen to improve web user security, they have said they may place a greater emphasis on site security as a ranking determinant. There are some implications from an organic search perspective that webmasters will need to be mindful of, in terms of blocking crawlers on secure pages, URL usage and certificate types.

Twitter Buys Image Search Company Madbits Twitter has recently acquired the Image Search company Madbits. Though Twitter is not traditionally known for their image capabilities, they are looking to capitalise on the vast majority of images that are daily posted on the site.
