Emojis Now Searchable On Bing Bing announced on Monday that users can now search emojis in their search engine. This should come as no surprise, given the extensive use of the icons on mobile devices by users of all backgrounds. Where this gets interesting is the impact this has on search advertisers targeting keywords and what form the evolution of SEM targeting is likely to take to account for these changes. This development in some ways reflects that of voice recognition searches for example and how these can be leveraged from an advertising standpoint; the latter seemingly more relevant at this point as emojis are unlikely to generate much traffic, as a user is far more likely to search the words rather than the emojis. Time will tell what smart targeting will be created to ensure search engine targeting remains relevant in a time of fast changing user behavioural patterns.

CPCs rise on Yahoo Search For the first time since 2012, Yahoo has reported a rise in revenue and this is in fact fuelled by search rather than display advertising. In fact, search advertising now accounts for a larger portion of Yahoo revenue than display advertising: 50.3% vs 49.7%.

It is not however that Yahoo generated more clicks as these are down by 21% year on year. Instead. CPCs have increased by 17% on average for advertisers on Yahoo search. Click price inflation could be becoming a challenge for advertisers on Yahoo therefore Quality Score optimisation is even more important on this engine.
