Google Will Roll Out Viewability Metrics At CES in Las Vegas, Google announced that they will launch viewability metrics for DoubleClick and begin to roll out for YouTube advertisers. This will provide advertisers with the knowledge of if their ads were actually watched (the industry standard being a minimum of 50% of the video being on screen for 2 seconds). Initially, reporting on this metric is clearly a step in the right direction but, later in the year, Google will also roll out targeting of viewable impressions. The roll out will begin with reporting and then targeting on DoubleClick, then extend to Youtube (web impressions first and then mobile) and, eventually, viewability targeting will become an option on the Google Display Network and Youtube.
