Search Lately: Issue 17 Improved Google Local Search Features 09 NOVEMBER 2011 – New Google local search layout introduced pulling even more information from Google Places into the search results pages including photos, maps & reviews... searchenginewatch.com/article/2123982/New-Google-Local-Search-Results-Show-DirectionsMenus-Pics POV: It will be interesting to see how this affects click through rates for PPC ads as these Google Places listings take an even more prominent position on the Google SERP. While they will push PPC ads above position 3 below the fold and even further out of site it will also threaten the traffic driven to websites that the premium positions deliver and potentially devalue PPC activity.

Google Experiment With New Sources Feature 08 NOVEMBER 2011 – Google have started to a new source feature on the right hand side of search results pages with detailed information of user search terms... thenextweb.com/google/2011/11/07/google-tests-sources-delivers-background-information-forsearch-results/

POV: Following last week’s statement of PPC ads being shifted to the bottom of search result pages, Google are looking to make full use of the new space they have generated on the right hand side of these pages. The new and improved Google Places details and now the new sources feature have the potential to take further traffic from the premium PPC ads if it becomes a permanent fixture. While from a costumer’s perspective it will give users a lot more detailed and relevant information, from an advertiser’s perspective it will only increase the competition for the top 3 premium PPC spaces and generate inflated CPCs as there is even less space available for advertiser to be noticed.
