Google Auction Insight for Advertisers – 23rd May 2012 Last week Google launched Auction Insights for advertisers, providing competitor insights into search terms that are actively being bid on. Next to your keywords in Google Adwords you will now see a mini bar chart that illustrates data is available for that given keyword.
This new report will give information including but not excluding competitor impression share, average position and top of page coverage. While many agencies have developed internal tools and currently utilise the might of Hitwise to pull this data, Google have now made some of this information openly available. While this feature is currently only available for single keywords with large amounts of traffic, it will help to make strategic decisions a lot easier and more time efficient than ever before.
While this will definitely be beneficial to many advertisers, it may also have negative implications by inflating costs even further, as competitors will have more insights to make evaluations from. This may mean strategic actions are made more frequently as competitors are more aware of when and how the landscape is dynamically changing. – Kevin Ting More details: searchenginewatch.com/article/2178493/Google-AdWords-Auction-InsightsReveals-Who-Youre-Competing-Against searchengineland.com/google-provides-competitive-information-in-newauction-insights-report-122140

Google Adwords Custom Alerts Sunset – 18th May 2012 Google announced this week that custom alerts are to be sunset on 30th June 2012. This feature notifies users when certain changes to performance metrics fluctuate. June 15th will mark the beginning of the end, when advertisers will no longer be able to create these alerts, while alerts will not trigger from existing alerts from 30th June onwards. It is not all doom and gloom though when it comes to staying on top of performance especially when you manage multiple accounts! Google will soon be adding an email-only option to automated rules. In the meantime it would be beneficial to get yourselves accustomed to the automated rules system, and prepared to transfer all customised alerts over to automated rules when the time comes. – Kevin Ting More details: adwords.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/announcement-custom-alerts-willsunset.html
