Google Adwords New Feature: Shared Budget – 18th September 2012 Shared Budgets in Google adWords enables advertisers to establish a single daily budget that’s shared by multiple campaigns. This feature is now out of Beta and has become available for all advertisers. Shared budgets can make it easier to manage multiple campaign budgets, especially when some of your campaigns are limited by budget. Using shared budgets allows automatic adjustments across campaigns, so you don’t have to constantly monitor and change individual campaign budgets throughout the day. You can simply use the following steps to create a shared budget in Google adWords: 1. Select the “Campaigns” tab. 2. Click the “Shared library” link in the left navigation bar. 3. Beneath that link, click “Budgets”. 4. Click “+New budget”. 5. Name your new shared budget, select some campaigns to apply it to, and set a budget amount. 6. Click “Save”. This new feature will give advertisers more control and flexibility managing campaign budgets. – Blair Liu More details: http://adwords.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/new-adwords-budget-optionshared-budgets_17.html
iPhone 5 Will Allow Users To Block Ad Tracking – 19th September 2012 iPhone 5 buyers will discover a setting that allows them to “limit ad [network] tracking.” At the same time Apple is introducing a new “advertising identifier” that it will compel all ad networks to use. This identifier will allow targeted ads to be delivered to the device and it will also enable the “limit ad tracking” button. Interestingly the “limit ad tracking” setting is off by default to enable targeted ads to appear on devices unless users flip the switch.
It will be interesting to see how this affects mobile campaigns over the next few months.

Facebook Search, The Industry Likes This – 20th September 2012 “We’re basically doing 1 billion queries a day and we’re not even trying.” - Mark Zuckerberg, TechCrunch Disrupt SF, 11th September 2012. It takes a certain type of human to be this nonchalant during their first public address since seeing their company’s share price drop by almost 50% in 2 months. In truth it was an extremely honest interview covering topics such as Mobile, the IPO, HTML5 and many others. But the most exciting announcement made was that at some point, Facebook will be tackling Search.
Obviously the potential for brands to advertise on a Facebook search platform is enormous (especially if Facebook search is used in this way). Whilst no official features have been announced, the internet rumour mill is in full spiral.
If I were to speculate, I can envisage a search engine that not only draws the ‘answers’ to queries but combines these with Friend ‘Likes’ and comments. In this more open search environment, negative reviews or comments would affect a brand’s CTR as much as high coverage or avg. position. This means the quality of service brands provide will be as important as the money they pump into PPC. Whilst Facebook Search may be a long way off, its announcement was definitely enough to whet the appetite as post interview, Facebook’s share prices rocketed by 7.9%, to $20.96... – Andy Negus More Details: http://techcrunch.com/2012/09/16/faceboogle http://techcrunch.com/2012/09/11/zuckerberg-we-have-a-team-workingon-search/ http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2012/sep/12/facebook-stock-pricemark-zuckerberg-interview?newsfeed=true
