Merry Christmas & Happy New Year from Search Lately!!!
'Facebook Nearby' Gets Into Local Search – 19th December 2012 This week Facebook have released an update to the 'Nearby' feature on their mobile app, showing early steps into the search market. While previously this feature would only show users where their friends had checked in near to your location, this new update will also additionally list nearby businesses based on a number of factors including your likes and Facebook profile. Rather than being just a pure social interactive tool, this update will make it a discovery focused tool as well. So many customers are now using Facebook as the first port of call online, and with significantly higher interactivity and personable features, this shows real intent by Facebook into competing in the local search market like never before. Advertisers should be aware and pay close attention to this latest development to ensure customers on Facebook are seeing local search results where possible for their brand.

Google Introduced Confirmed Clicks into Mobile In-app Image Ads - 19th December 2012 There has been a long-existing concern about “accidental clicks” on mobile ads, which is often referred to as “fat-finger” problem, as Google introduced confirmed clicks for text ad banners on smartphones a few years ago to combat this problem. In the text ad format, tapping on the blue arrow button takes you to the advertiser’s ad destination, whereas tapping anywhere else in the ad prompts you to confirm your click. Now Google has expanded the
feature of “Confirmed Clicks” into all in-app image ad banners on smartphones in an attempt to reduce accidental clicks by prompting the user to confirm that they actually clicked the ad. Google found that most accidental clicks on in-app image ads happen at the outer edge of the ad unit, likely when you’re trying to click or scroll to nearby content. Now, if you click on the outer border of the ad, you will be prompted to verify that you actually meant to click on the ad to learn more.
