Google Add Favicons to AdSense Text Ads This week Google AdSense confirmed it will be incorporating favicons into their text ad formats. A favicon is a small icon or picture which an advertiser can use on an ad for their website, such as a company logo. These favicons will help to differentiate text ads and help to make an advertiser’s text ad more personalised to their brand.
A quote from the Official ‘Inside AdSense Blog’ highlights the rationale behind this update: “We’re constantly thinking about how we can make our ad formats better for you, your users and the advertisers appearing on your pages. Today we’re happy to share the introduction of favicons to our text ads. A favicon is a small graphic that an advertiser can use to brand their website, such as their company logo. We regularly experiment with small changes to the look of our text ads, measuring the potential impact on user experience and publisher earnings. Our experiments show that adding these favicons to the ads makes advertisers more recognizable to your users, which benefits both you and the advertisers whose ads appear on your sites.” - Inside AdSense Blog Could this be the prelude to Google introducing advertiser logos within the Google SERP in a similar way to Bing’s ‘Rich Ads In Search’ feature? (Availability may vary by country. Please check with your agency or Google representative for official release dates)

Bing Product Ads Closed BETA – Q3 (US Only) This week, Adobe announced that Media Optimizer would support Bing Product Ads, which has subsequently left search advertisers wondering when this product will be finally released by Bing. It has previously been expected to launch in Q3 2013, as outlined back in April, but this week David Plann, GM of Microsoft’s Search Network, confirmed more details about this release and responded with the following to Search Engine Land: “We are on track to release Product Ads in Q3 of this year. We have invited a targeted set of U.S. advertisers to participate in a ‘closed beta’ through the holiday season so that we allow time to ensure our primary goal of creating a great customer experience while also listening to/implementing any advertiser feedback. We will announce general availability timing in the coming months.” - David Plann, GM of Microsoft’s Search Network
