Environmental Assessment & Management Services Sedgman Yeats’ environmental specialists, engineers and planners work in collaboration throughout each project’s evolution. We combine years of experience with a common sense approach, incorporating cutting edge research from industry partners to develop practical, economical and creative environmental solutions for clients. This approach has earned us a highly respected position in this specialised field. Our accomplished environmental professionals have demonstrated experience delivering baseline environmental assessments and environmental impact studies for a wide variety of industries. We work closely with specialist consultants, including government agencies, during all phases of assessment, problem analysis, strategic planning, and design and construction to deliver optimum environmental outcomes. We know from experience that significant time and costs can be incurred as a result of a lack of coordination or understanding of planning and environmental approvals. Sedgman Yeats’ dedicated team can streamline this process, assembling the required information and ensuring stakeholders are kept fully informed, providing more efficient and cost-effective results. As a consulting organisation across multiple disciplines, Sedgman Yeats recognises the importance of balancing environmental, social and cultural requirements with the commercial and economic realities of the design and timing of any project. Our environmental solutions can add considerable value to a project, particularly when combined with our broader engineering and technical capability.

Selected project profiles Styx Coal Project
Tannum Sands Development
Queensland Nickel Pty Ltd Styx Coal Basin, Queensland
Lyons Capital Tannum Sands, Gladstone, Queensland
As part of the pre-feasibility stages for this proposed open cut coal mine in Central Queensland, Sedgman Yeats were engaged to undertake an environmental assessment program to begin gathering data and describing the environment in this little-studied part of the Central Queensland coastal region. The program was developed, managed and delivered as a baseline report within the specified timeframes. Follow up environmental studies were then initiated based on identified data gaps and long lead time components.
The project includes the development of a master planned residential development with over 2000 residential allotments including dedicated commercial precincts, and community and regional open space areas.
Project management and implementation of the Styx Coal Project was controlled by Sedgman Yeats, including field work programs, sub-consultant management and client liaison, adapting the program to meet client requirements and expectations as the project developed. Works were completed within budget and on time and additional works commissioned by the client continues, including EIS impact assessment works, development of the mine plan and preparation of the Initial Development Plan and EM Plan for lodgement to State authorities.
Sedgman Yeats acted as principal consultant on the project, responsible for: • Project management/administration; • Commonwealth EPBC approvals and referral (the site is located adjacent to the Great Barrier Reef); • Preparation of an Environmental Management Plan; • Preparation of Property Vegetation Management Plans. We also provided engineering and input into the master plan. The EPBC referrals process has involved continued liaison with the Commonwealth and presentations and subsequent lodgement of application documentation. Sedgman Yeats is currently managing the completion of the referrals process.
