PROVIDING INNOVATIVE ENGINEERING, PLANNING AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONSULTING SERVICES

Water & Wastewater Distribution

// SEDGMAN YEATS / WATER & WASTEWATER DISTRIBUTIION

Sedgman Yeats provides multidisciplinary consulting and engineering services to the mining and resources, infrastructure, environment, building and property sectors. At Sedgman Yeats our engineers, environmental specialists and planners work in collaboration throughout each project’s evolution. The planning, design and construction of mining and resources, infrastructure and urban development encompasses an extensive range of management, planning, engineering and environmental services which few consultants can fully offer its client as an integrated package. Sedgman Yeats, with its multidisciplinary capability is not only able to provide this but with the addition of value adding engineering through option analysis. Our innovative approach to planning and design concepts has enabled our clients to achieve optimum outcomes considerably in excess of conventional designs without detriment to the environment and the amenity of future users. For many years, Sedgman Yeats has played a leading role in the development, management and engineering design of water supply, wastewater systems and sanitation in both rural and urban land forms.

Sedgman Yeats can provide a wide range of water and wastewater services, including: planning, preliminary and detailed design for water and wastewater pipelines, pumping stations, treatment facilities, storages and associated infrastructure. Sedgman Yeats engineers have comprehensive experience in the master planning, feasibility studies, design, tender and contract documentation, construction supervision, certification and project management for all aspects of water and wastewater distribution. Through our analysis and management, appropriate and cost-effective designs are produced to clientspecific requirements, including sustainability, water loss reduction, water efficiency improvements, and water saving technologies to reduce supply demands on irrigation and dust control procedures. Our Water and Wastewater Distribution team provides services in the areas of:

Sedgman Yeats was engaged to undertake a study to investigate options including preliminary engineering design and feasibility analysis to provide the water supply to service the mine site.

Sedgman Yeats was the principle consultant for concept and detailed engineering, design verification report, risk assessment, construction supervision and certification to complete the Helensvale Wastewater System upgrade. The system included 375mm diameter pressure main, 900mm diameter gravity main, two (2) 4m diameter pump stations and was designed to accept flows up to 1,022m3/hr.

This initially included the consideration of multiple potential dam site locations and associated pipelines, pumping stations and water treatment plants. The scope was subsequently widened to consider options involving the transfer of 133km of water from the Connors River Dam to Moranbah Pipeline and the 265km Moranbah to Alpha Pipeline. The scope of works included:

The scope of works included: 

Wastewater pressure main and gravity main;

100m of tunnel boring under rail corridor;

Base study for water supply to coal mine site;

Replacement/Upgrade of existing pump stations;

Concept engineering design of dam & pipelines;

Construction cost estimate and specifications;

Feasibility study including capital, operation and maintenance costs.

Emergency storage and holding tanks; and

11kV electrical install to new 750kVA transformer.

A reverse osmosis desalination plant was implemented to provide fresh water to the tunnel boring machines and associated construction activities of the North South Bypass (Clem7) Tunnel. Sedgman Yeats was commissioned to provide pipeline route analysis, detailed engineering design and reporting of a pressure main, from the Reverse Osmosis Plant to the discharge location in the Brisbane River. Significant engineering input was required to achieve the desired design within extremely tight timeframes. Sedgman Yeats services were also extended to include compilation of a project specification and review and certification of the constructed in-situ pressure main. Sedgman Yeats was able to achieve significant cost savings for the client through recommendations regarding pipe materials, alternate route locations and ground & bracket laying techniques versus pipe trenching.

Water pressures at Flagstone Creek fluctuate at peak time demands and as such the trunk water supply upgrade was required to increase water pressures to one of the fasted growing regions in Australia. Sedgman Yeats was the principle consultant for managing the delivery of the design and documentation package, project management, tender & contract documentation, construction supervision and commissioning of the Flagstone Creek trunk water supply upgrade which included a 300mm diameter water pressure main and pumping station. The scope of works included: 

Water pressure main;

Water booster station including access road;

Electrical controls, monitoring and telephony; and

Survey, traffic control and geotechnical studies.
