Seguin ISD families encouraged to take school district survey
Cindy Aguirre-Herrera(Seguin) -- Don't let the school year pass you by without sharing your feedback on the 2022-2023 school year. That's the invitation by Seguin ISD officials who say they value your feedback.
Sean Hoffmann, the chief communications officer for the Seguin ISD, says the district is currently surveying Seguin ISD families in order to gain insight into their perception of the school and the district's effectiveness.
"This survey that the Seguin ISD has shared with its parents as well as with employees is designed to really get some insightful feedback from our school community on the perception of our schools and our effectiveness. We want to ensure that we are improving constantly and with the community's input, we can get that feedback in order to provide the supportive environments and the high-quality learning experiences that our community deserves," said Hoffmann.
To administer these surveys, Hoffmann says they have partnered with Panorama Education to conduct the family surveys. District officials say Panorama safeguards personal privacy, keeping all responses confidential.
Hoffmann says the survey shouldn't take more than a few minutes to complete, and again adds that it will serve as a valuable source of information to help improve learning.

Kuempel calls for more oversight for professors with tenure
Darren Dunn(Austin) -- A somewhat controversial plan to do away with tenure for Texas college professors is being shelved. Instead, state lawmakers, including Seguin’s representative in the house, are pushing a different bill that includes more oversight.
“This bill requires that universities have policies that are clear, hold tenure faculty accountable for their teaching and research.
That’s Texas State Representative John Kuempel, of Seguin.
The revised bill by Kuempel would require state colleges and universities to conduct regular
performance reviews of teachers with tenure.
“Ensures that faculty who are not meeting established standards for their performance can be removed from their positions while receiving
due process,” said Kuempel.
Representative Kuempel says that instead of doing away with tenure, they want teachers to be subjected to performance reviews
“This bill will help ensure the faculty who earn tenure uphold the responsibility to their students, their university, and the people of Texas,” said Kuempel.
The Texas Lieutenant Governor set off a firestorm when he announced plans to go after tenure, as a way to reign in who he called activist professors. That led to fears that good teachers would flee the state in protest.

Survey, continued.
"This is an annual survey. This is our second year to do it and it just takes a few minutes to take and we encourage all of our parents and all of our guardians of our students as well as all of our students and employees to take those few minutes, complete the survey so that we can constantly improve as we evaluate those results when they come in this summer," said Hoffmann.
Hoffmann says the survey has been made readily available and easy to master.
"The deadline for the survey is May 19 and we have shared it with our school families through email as well as on social media. We've emailed the survey to our employees and again, we will be putting out reminders to our stakeholders and again encouraging them to take that time and really share with us areas where we can improve and areas where we might be doing a great job," said Hoffmann.
Individuals and families may complete the survey online using a computer, tablet, or smartphone. The link for the survey is https://surveys.panoramaed. com/seguinisdtx/1864455962/surveys
The link for the survey can also be found on the district's website SeguinISD.net or on the district's Facebook page. Upon clicking, individuals will be asked to choose their child's school from a list of campuses.
Those having children enrolled in multiple schools in the district will have the option to start a new survey for another school after submitting the survey for their selected campus.

Texas Preps For
Expected Migrant Surge
(Austin, TX) -- Texas Governor Greg Abbott says he’s deploying another national guard unit to the border for this week’s end of Title-42. The public health rule has been used to expedite deportations and, without it, there are worries about a surge of illegal immigration. The governor says the Texas Tactical Border Force will focus on stopping asylum-seekers from crossing illegally into the country. The Biden Administration estimates that 13-thousand people will come across the border illegally on a daily basis once Title 42 expires on Thursday.
New Guidance
Suggests Women In 40s Begin Breast Cancer Screening
(Washington, DC) -- New guidance says most women should begin screening for breast cancer at 40. The U.S. Preventative Services Task Force, a group that guides insurance policies with its decisions, says women with average risk should be screened every other year between ages 40 and 74. Before, task force recommendations suggested women should begin screening at 50 unless they had higher risk factors. But with higher rates of breast cancer among women in their 40s, the last task force chair said there’s more value in screening at younger ages.
Rubio Wants No More Subsidies For Junk Food (Washington, DC) -- Senator Marco Rubio wants to make sure Americans no longer subsidize unhealthy eating habits. The Florida Republican wrote in the Wall Street Journal on Sunday that he wants to make sure food stamps, or SNAP benefits, can’t be used on soda and prepared desserts. He says this will reorient the program toward healthy foods like milk and pure fruit juice. Rubio estimates more than 20 percent of SNAP benefits are spent on junk food, and that will cost taxpayers 240 billion dollars over the next decade. He also writes it’s immoral, irresponsible and reprehensible that SNAP plays a role in spreading diabetes and obesity.
Medical Care Company Settles False Billing Claims
(Seattle, WA) -- A healthcare company that does business in several states has settled with the federal government over false billing claims. The U.S. Attorney in Seattle says United Wound Healing will pay 292-thousand dollars to resolve the case. They are not admitting wrongdoing. The company does business in Washington, Oregon, Utah, and Idaho. They work at long-term care facilities and provide specialized treatment to patients with a variety of wounds. If the patient received care for another medical problem the same day as they were seen by United Wound Healing, Medicaid and Medicare are not supposed to be billed.
