Screening of crime-drama TV series to benefit pregnancy center
Vindication featuring local actresses
(Seguin) – Seguin’s connection with a popular faith-based crime drama TV series will come full circle this Thursday as a screening of a couple of its episodes will support a local non-profit organization.
Starring as one of the lead characters in the series “Vindication” is Peggy Schott, a Seguin resident and volunteer with the South Texas Pregnancy Care Center.
The actress tells KWED Radio that a special benefit screening of a couple of the show’s episodes this Thursday at the Texas Theatre will help fund the non-profit group’s efforts.
The series, currently streaming on platforms such as Pure Flix, Prime Video, and Redeem TV, is set to return this September with Season 3.
Schott, who has starred in several films and shows, including “Fear of the Walking Dead,” says she is excited to pair her role as an actress
with the very important mission of Seguin’s pregnancy care center.
“I will be there. One of the other actresses actually lives in the Seguin area also. Her name is Venus Monique and she plays Detective Kris Tanner. She will be there and when I let the lead actor Todd Terry know who plays Detective Travis that we were doing this, he said ‘oh, I want to be there.’ So, he is driving in from the Dallas/Fort Worth area and he will be there also. So, people can meet the three lead actors and then also Janice Weaver from the pregnancy center will be there and she can answer all sorts of questions about what’s going on at the pregnancy center,” said Schott.
Schott says she has enjoyed her role on the TV show and looks forward to sharing more about her character, Becky Travis, the wife of the lead detective in the drama series.

4th of July Parade DE A DLINE nears
(Seguin) – Those planning to celebrate the Fourth of July have two more days in which to secure their spot in this year’s parade route.
Entries will be accepted through the end of day Wednesday for this year’s Biggest-Small Town Fourth of July Parade in Texas. The annual parade is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 4 in downtown Seguin.
Kyle Kramm, Seguin Main Street and CVB director, says the parade continues to be one of the most popular Fourth of July events in the area featuring floats from local businesses, elected officials, churches, schools, military representatives plus many more.
“I think we are getting close to about the 100 mark. It’s a weekday so we kind of anticipated this parade being a little bit smaller than in years past but I think we will probably be 130 to 150 mark for entries which is still a very decent parade. I think our record was about 180 and I think that’s good to know. Those are going to be more on a Saturday when we have the bigger parades,” said Kramm.
Kramm says submitting an entry is easy and free.
“We just really encourage any business, individual, or organization to submit an application and participate. It’s going to be a great event. We are anticipating several thousand people lining the parade route, so we just want everyone to come out decked in their red, white, and blue and celebrate Independence Day,” said Kramm.
Prior to the start of the parade, the community on July 4 is also invited to the annual flag-raising ceremony
Series, continued.
“This crime drama series deals with lots of hard issues that we deal with in the world today but it comes at it from a safe perspective. So, when you are watching it and dealing with hard issues, there’s no vulgar language. There’s not nudity. You know there is violence in the world but you don’t have to see it and I love the fact that not only do you see this detective dealing with the crimes that are going on but then you come back into his home and you meet his wife and his daughter and the different family dynamics and family drama that is
in Central Park. The ceremony which begins at 9 a.m. will include music, speakers, and pomp and circumstance.
To submit a parade entry, visit the city’s website at seguintexas.gov or contact the Seguin Main Street office at 830-401-5000.
This year’s parade will wrap up Seguin’s four-day Fourth of July celebration. Kicking off events on Saturday, July 1 will be Seguin Radio KWED’s Freedom Fiesta in Central Park from 6 to 10 p.m. The event will include food booths, food trucks, kids’ activities, a Kiddie Parade, vendors, and live music featuring Jesse Raub Jr, a Texas Country Music Entertainer of the Year nominee.
Events continue on Sunday, July 2 with the Patriotic Concert in the Park from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and the city’s annual Fireworks Fiesta at Max Starcke Park on Monday, July 3 at 9:30 p.m.
going on there. It’s been a fantastic role for me to get to play. I’ve really been enjoying it,” said Schott.
Schott says the fan base for Vindication continues to grow. She says the drama and its story line have kept viewers hooked ever since it was first introduced.
“When the show first started, actually Jarod (O’Flaherty, writer) had made a short film for his church and the short film was so well received, people said, ‘you should turn this into a series,’ so he made one more short film and after that, they were able to get the funding to go ahead and turn it into a series so when people start
watching -- if they watch the first two episodes, they are a little different then once you get into it. So, I’ll tell people when you start to watch the first two episodes, they were really not created to be a series but people enjoyed them so much they wanted it to be. So, I actually started in Episode 3 of Season 1. That’s when he decided, okay, we are really doing this but we don’t want it to be just detectives solving crimes. We want to know more about him and his family and then as it goes on, you meet other people and you get to know more about their personal lives,” said Schott. Series, pg. 3

Series, continued.
With its focus on being faith-based, Schott says it just made sense to bridge the pregnancy care center with the showing of Episodes 6 and 7 from Season 1.
“On Thursday, we will be showing two episodes from Season 1. I had a bunch of friends in Seguin saying that they wanted to see it and get together as a group to see some of it and to get introduced to the show and my husband and I picked two episodes and we realized, these two episodes deal with a lot of the things that we deal with at the pregnancy center so we thought it would be a good thing to tie them together and invite the community not only to find out about the series but to find out more about the pregnancy center and the services that they provide in the area so it has just been wonderful for me to be a part of that and I want to share that and have more people know about it,” said Schott.
Having moved to Seguin about a year ago, Schott continues to successfully balance her work on the TV series with that of her volunteer work at the pregnancy care center. She says both works are equally as important as they provide hope and positive messages.
“I just feel that the pregnancy center is so important to the community. When I see the young moms and dads come in with their babies and knowing how much we can help them, I find that you know being a parent, having a baby can be really challenging and there’s not much support. You don’t get an education in school about how to be a parent and a lot people don’t live near family members as they used to have that support system. So, it’s wonderful that they can come in and meet with our patient advocates who are there to be helpful and then they have so many learning opportunities watching videos about pregnancy and child birth and nursing and what
to do if the baby gets sick and all these different things that they can learn but while they are learning, they are earning points and they use their points to come into the baby boutique and they can buy diapers and clothes and furniture and strollers and everything they need to help support them being new parents,” said Schott.
However, Schott’s notoriety is not limited to Vindication and faith-based films. The local actress has and continues to work on several major projects -- many of which are set to be released soon.
“I have been doing other things. One thing that people may have heard of is Fear the Walking Dead. Her name (character) is Tess and people might remember Tess was locked up in her house for two years and her husband planted land mines in the front yard so when the zombies started coming through the gates, the land mines started to explode and there were zombie guts just raining all around the house so it was a very interesting scene to shoot which shot in the Austin area for several years and I’m in six episodes of Fear the Walking Dead so I’ve been in the zombie world and I’ve just wrapped up a feature film and have two coming up this fall -- one that is a romantic comedy. So yeah, I go from zombies, to faithbased to comedies,” said Schott.
The special screening of the Vindication crime drama series gets underway at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Texas Theatre located at 425 N. Austin St. Following the pair of episodes will be a Q&A with the three lead actors plus the pregnancy care center’s director. A suggested donation of $25 will be accepted at the door. An online donation to the pregnancy care center, in relation to the Vindication screening, can also be made in advance at www.peggyschott.me/vindication-stpcc. A link or QR code to make a donation can also be found in the KWED or South Texas Pregnancy Care Center Facebook pages.

The pharmaceutical giant said in a letter to customers last week there is an “impending stock out situation” for two of its pre-filled syringes of injectable penicillin. Judge Blocks Indiana Gender Affirming Care Ban
(Indianapolis, IN) -- A federal judge is blocking Indiana’s ban on gender affirming healthcare from taking effect. The ban would have barred healthcare providers from giving gender affirming care to anyone under the age of 18. Republican Governor Eric Holcomb said the legislation was difficult to understand, calling it “clear as mud” before signing it into law one day later. The ban, which would have taken effect July 1st, was halted by a preliminary injunction from Judge James Hanlon. The state of Indiana is currently being sued by the ACLU, who claim the ban violates the Medicaid Act, the Affordable Care Act, and the U.S. Constitution.
