Alton Towers bans Speedos Alton Towers has banned male visitors from wearing Speedos in its watermark on grounds of taste. Bosses of the tourist attraction are also considering introducing mandatory bikini waxing for men. The company said a number of men had been seen sporting ultra-tight trunks this summer. "To prevent embarrassment among fellow members of the public and to maintain the family friendly atmosphere at the resort, bosses have taken the extreme measure of banning these tight trunks. While women may hail the return of the skimpy bathers, the style itself is not deemed public or family friendly, and therefore we are requesting that male swimmers wear
more appropriate styles such as board shorts." The resort is also considering introducing mandatory bikini waxing for men, in a bid to prevent unsightly hair from being on display. Lorry driver had a shower at the wheel A Chinese lorry driver has been fined for having a shower while driving. Police spotted water leaking from the driver's cab as it sped along the expressway. "We worried the driver may not have known about a mechanical problem so we signalled him to pull over," said police. Police were shocked to see the driver was wet through and had been enjoying a shower via a sprinkler kettle system rigged up above his head. His wife, who was sitting in the passenger's seat, had been holding up a sheet of plastic to protect the instruments from the water. Police fined the lorry driver and warned him he would be in serious trouble if he tried to have a shower at the wheel again. Man stole motorbike – part by part A Chinese man was arrested for stealing a motorcycle - part by part over five years from the factory where he worked. Zhang, an assembly line worker in a motorcycle factory had always wanted his own motorbike but could never afford one. He started stealing parts and assembling them at home in 2003. Five years later he finally built himself a brand new SUV motorcycle and began driving it on the road. But, almost immediately, he was pulled up by police who discovered that he had no driving licence or paperwork for the bike.

Fiji is one of the first places in the world to greet each new day. Situated on the 180 degree meridian (International Date Line). For practical reasons, the line makes a detour around Fiji so that everyone observes the same time. However, on the island of Taveuni, a marker indicates a spot where you can stand with one foot in one day and one foot in the day before. Infamous For: Fijians are known for their hospitality and friendliness - although this hasn't always been the case. Over a century ago, the Fijian people were thought to be ferocious cannibals. Souvenir and craft shops on the islands offer four-pronged wooden forks for sale, reminding tourists of those days. One unfortunate victim of the cannibals was the missionary Thomas Baker, who was eaten all but one shoe. Today, the uneaten shoe is on display in the Fiji Museum.
Biggest Celebrity: Golfer Vijay Singh National Sport: Rugby union, following closely behind are Rugby League &Football. Fijian Traditions: Fijians have an interesting way of celebrating the New Year - in January, some of the women of the villages take part in a traditional game of veicaqe moli, loosely translated as “kick the orange. The winning team must present a gift of clothes to the losing team, while the losing team prepares and serves the traditional Fijian drink of yaqona. Fire walking is still popular in Fiji - although today it is practiced mainly for tourists, rather than for ceremonial reasons. Fijian Delicacies: Various roots, boiled bat, and raw fish marinated in coconut cream. Former British Colony: Fiji was one of the most remote British colonies and their flag still resembles their colonial past today. The light blue background on the flag represents the huge expanse of the Pacific Ocean, and
the white dove on the coat of arms symbolizes peace and friendship with the UK. The Queen of England can be seen on the country's coins and colourful banknotes. The Queen actually has the proud title of Paramount Chief of the Great Council of Chiefs of Fiji. Interesting fact about Fiji: Fijians first impressed themselves on European consciousness through the writings of the members of the expeditions of Cook who met them in Tonga. They were described as formidable warriors and ferocious cannibals, builders of the finest vessels in the Pacific, but not great sailors. They inspired awe amongst the Tongans. They called their home Viti, but the Tongans called it Fisi, and it was by this foreign pronunciation, Fiji, first promulgated by Captain James Cook, that these islands are now known. Amazing but true: Only the village chief is allowed to wear sunglasses and a hat!
Giraffes have no vocal cords. Only five countries - Australia, France, Great Britain, Greece, and Switzerland, have been represented at all Summer Olympic Games. Other than humans, black lemurs are the only primates that may have blue eyes. If an orangutan belches at you, watch out. He's warning you to stay out of his territory. You're more likely to get stung by a bee on a windy day that in any other Weather. Every person has a unique tongue print. Even if you cut off a cockroach's head, it can live for several weeks. Some toothpaste contains antifreeze. There are no letters assigned to the numbers 1 and 0 on a phone keypad. These numbers remain unassigned because they are so-called "flag" numbers, kept for special purposes such as emergency or operator services. The first city in the world to have a population of more than one million was Rome. The US flag displays 13 stripes - for the original 13 states. Some 190 billion emails are sent daily - more than 2 million per second - by 1.2 billion email senders. About 70% (133 billion emails) are spam and viruses. There is about 1.4 billion registered email addresses. The present population of 6.7 billion plus people of the world is predicted to become 9.4 billion by 2050.
Carihuela Carvery Located in deepest Carihuela in Torremolinos is the Carihuela Carvery. The traditional carvery style dinner is available everyday except Mondays, when it’s closed. The selection of three meats, six veg with sauces and all the trimmings offers quality dining for value prices. The ‘all you can eat’ buffet is offered for just €10.95 and will test the strength of your waistband more than that of your wallet or purse. The management accept no responsibility for ruined belts, girdles, buckles or braces. The real surprise for me though was the variety of the a la carte menu, which covers all tastes and diets. Examples being vegetarian, dairy and gluten free diets, which are a speciality. This also extends to the desserts, that one I won’t spoil for you, just ask what's good, sit back and start planning your trip to the gym.
Nothing is too much trouble for chef and owner Robert. There is also a 3 course menu of the day for only €10 for those on a budget who still want a scrumptious meal in a warm welcoming venue. If that wasn't enough to convince you try this great eatery then pop up on Friday nights to try the fish tea special. Cod or Haddock cooked in fresh made beer batter, served with peas and real cut chips, tea, bread and butter for only €9.95 is not to be missed. Throw in the open plan kitchen that lets you watch your meal being pulled together and a very well stocked bar and it adds up to a real culinary find for those bored of the same old stuff every night. FREE wireless internet installations for your community. Mercury Internet - Fast, affordable and reliable broadband internet without need for a land line. MERCURY Wireless Internet has launched a new deal for communities where they will install wireless Internet facility worth thousands of euros for free. This enables residents and visitors to access the Internet on a pay as you go basis without any need for a contract or landline and without incurring any cost to those in the community who do not wish to use this service. Until recently, to have a broadband Internet connection you needed a landline and an ADSL connection and had to pay a monthly fee for both services. This is fine if you are living here permanently and your house is close to the telephone exchange. However, if you live in a rural area or one of the many developments which don't have a telephone line or the capability for an ADSL connection your options have been limited. Mercury Internet provides broadband Internet for people who are not living here full time or cannot obtain or justify the cost of a landline and an ADSL connection. Jason Godwin founded Mercury Internet in 1996. The first thing that one notices when they meet Jason is that his enthusiasm, excitement and belief in what his company does are things he cannot hide. Jason explains: "We were one of the first Internet service providers to launch in Spain and have been providing Internet services and hosting to homes and businesses since then. We provide friendly support in several languages including English and Spanish."
Mercury Internet is based in Elviria, just outside of Marbella. "We've invested heavily in technology over the past thirteen years. We believe that our infrastructure and our experience make us the most reliable Internet service provider on the Costa del Sol," reveals Jason, a man who speaks with absolute conviction in the service he provides. Mercury Internet has invested over a million euros building their own network to cover the areas along the coast and inland to provide their customers with fast and reliable broadband Internet without requiring a land line. "We find a large amount of clients come from villages like Pizarra, and many remote villages far inland," he says. To this end they have built towers, rented space on mountains, and are paying for multiple Internet connections at their HQ in Elviria. "It all costs money, but the outcome is that we provide fast and reliable service to our growing base of satisfied clients," states an upbeat and confident Jason. Mercury offers peace of mind by offering all its customers a 30-day unconditional money back guarantee. "We receive daily calls from clients who have paid hundreds of euros to other companies and have not had service. We believe it is vital that we demonstrate we are a trustworthy company." states Jason. Contact Mercury Internet: Tel: 951 055 676 Web: www.mercuryinternet.com Or alternatively, for the adventurous as their road is currently being dug up, you can visit them at their offices at Avenida Las Cumbres, Cerrado de Elviria. Chris Rock's Rude Interruption On the world: "You know the world is going crazy when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy, the tallest guy in the NBA is a Chinese guy, the Swiss hold the America's Cup, France is accusing the U.S. of arrogance, Germany doesn't want to go to war, and the three most powerful men in America are name 'Bush,' 'Dick' and 'Colon.' Need I say more?" On drugs: "I don't get high, but sometimes I wish I did. That way, when I messed up in life I would have an excuse. But right now there's no rehab for stupidity." On being famous: "Yeah, I love being famous. It's almost like being white, y'know? People are nice to ya, they give you the benefit o' the doubt... You drive a flash car down the freeway and the cops'll pull y'over and before they even look they like 'What the f**k are you doing?' and then they see it's you and they like 'Awww man, it's Chris Rock, it's okay, man we thought you was a nigga'." On sports: "Black people dominate sports in the United States. 20% of the population and 90% of the final four. We own this shit. Basketball, baseball, football, golf, tennis, and as soon as they make a heated hockey rink we'll take that shit too." On women: "If a woman tells you she's twenty and looks sixteen, she's twelve. If she tells you she's twenty-six and looks twenty-six, she's damn near forty." On taxes: "You don't pay taxes - they take taxes."
On music: "I love music. Music is the soundtrack to the crappy movie that is my life." Monday night’s crowd at the Theater at Madison Square Garden enjoyed watching Chris Rock joke about Janet Jackson’s breast-baring Super Bowl antics, as well as the child molestation charges facing her brother Michael Jackson: “They got to put a stop to it. They got to put a stop to it,” said of Janet’s stunt, “because somebody’s going to whip out their (penis) next.” As for the King of Pop, Rock wondered, “What’s with that family?” When Michael was accused last year of fondling another little boy 10 years after the first accusation, “It was like ‘Groundhog Day’,” Rock said. “We love Michael Jackson so much, we let the first kid slide… That’s like another dead white girl showing up at O.J.’s house.” “Don't argue! You cannot win, you cannot beat a woman in a arguement. It's impossble you will not win. Cause men, we are handicapped when it comes to arguing cause we have a need to make sense” “Never go to clubs with metal detectors. Sure it feels safe inside. But what about all those niggas waiting outside with guns? They know you ain't got one.” “Much like rock 'n' roll, school shootings were invented by the black man and stolen by the whites,” “Have you been watching American Idol? They have Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul judgin' the singin. Paula Abdul?! Gettin' Paula Abdul to judge a singin' contest is like gettin' Christopher Reeve to judge a dance contest!” “There are people who would like to get rid of minimum wage. But we have to have it, because if we didn't some people would not get paid money. They would work all week for two loaves of bread and some Spam.”
by Ann French of WeDoBling.com We all know that fashions come and go but the trends of past decades are a mix in fashion this year with hippy prints, flowers and lots of colour. Because our budgets do not necessarily stretch to buying the clothes on the catwalk, or what happens here is slightly different to the rest of the world, then why not bring the fashion into your lifestyle and look to reuse, recycle and revamp your wardrobe and add new fashion accessories? With a wealth of charity shops around there is a plethora of clothes to choose from – all you need to do is to co-ordinate it with shoes, jewellery, handbag, belts, etc and hey presto a new outfit with the authenticness of the decade! Why not check out the A.I.D. Charity Chic Fashion Show on Thursday 10th September at Sierra de Albatross, Alhaurin de la Torre. Doors open at 7pm, €5 ticket to include a drink and tapa. There are several ways to revamp your jewellery too. You may have several bracelets that you keep wearing. Look to layering your old bracelets with a newer set of bangles. Also think about the colours you have in your wardrobe and mix silver bangles with cooler colours such as green and blue and mix gold bangles with warmer colours such as browns and ambers. Perhaps you have a string of beads that you do not feel is your “style” then look to restring them, adding new beads that blend or a large natural stone focal bead. If you don’t have the expertise, time, etc then look to find someone who does. Here at WeDoBling, we can restring, reuse and restyle your beads to suit your “style”. Visit our website: www.wedobling.com or see a range of our jewellery, decorative bra straps and handbag hangers at Papeleria Martin, Alhaurin el Grande. See you next month….. Ann
Your arsenal of home remedies is about to get a lot spicier. Though herbs have been used for hundreds of years to heal, scientists are starting to substantiate these plants' abilities to alleviate arthritis pain, reduce high blood sugar and cholesterol, and help with many other conditions. They're even discovering amazing new powers in some herbs. Herbs and other natural remedies can be as effective as medical treatments, often without the same negative side effects. Here are 10 super healers you can add to the all natural section of your medicine cabinet. Adding one or two of them into your cooking every day can see big benefits. Turmeric helps to ease arthritis. Cinnamon can lower blood sugar. Rosemary avoids carcinogens (in cooking for example). Ginger helps to alleviate nausea. Holy Basil combats stress. St. John's Wort soothes your worries. Garlic can lower cancer risk. Andrographis helps by shortening summer colds. Kudzu helps to curb problem drinking. Natural substances often work like drugs in the body. Don't assume it's safe.. Search the label for a seal of approval which indicates it has been approved. Talk with your doctor if you are considering taking supplements. Some herbs can interact
with certain meds, including those for high blood pressure, diabetes, and depression, as well as blood thinners and even OTC drugs.
What changes need to be made immediately? And finally what changes need to be made during the autumn and winter period?
September is a good time to carry out a strategic garden review and decide on projects and changes for the coming months. Few gardeners are ever totally satisfied with their gardens. Check area by area, for as the garden matures, they look so different to when first planted. Divide the garden into manageable areas, for instance the front garden, pool area and side gardens, reflect on each area and ask the following questions What has been the greatest achievement seasonally in each area, throughout the year? Did we have continuous flowering from last September? Has there been adequate contrast between the various colours, textures, heights and shapes of the various plants and trees? Are all the plants healthy and strong? What were the watering costs of specimen plants? What have been the biggest disappointments during the year? Can the successes be achieved in other areas?
If possible, visit your local garden centre; consider drought resistance perennials and flowering shrubs. Callistemon Viminalis (The Bottle Bush) - An evergreen drought tolerant shrub which is ideal for full sun planting, grows to some 7 x 5 meters and flowers spring, summer and autumn. This attractive shrub is mainly grown for its dramatic red bottle brush flower, which is the primary reason for its popularity. The weight of the flowers tending to make the branches weep and look very pretty. The new growth is pinky-bronze and matures to a dark green. Very little care is needed to this shrub, prune out any wayward branches and dead wood. Semi ripe cuttings can be taken during the summer for propagation. There are few limitations to growing Bottle brush. It prefers sun for most of the day and it's tolerant of most soils except heavy, poorly drained sites. Expect a moderate rate of growth...not too fast and not too slow. There are no significant pest problems. In addition the Bottle brush can withstand considerable drought and salt spray. Have fun, .... Rosie
They are the tallest animal on earth. The Giraffe is this month’s Amazing Animal. The average lifespan of a giraffe in the wild is 25 years. Male giraffes are called bulls. Females are known as cows and baby giraffes are referred to as calves. Giraffes have black tongues that can extend approx. 20 inches. Their tongues are prehensile which means that it can grab and hold onto objects. A female giraffe gives birth to a single offspring after a gestation period of approximately 15 months. Females give birth standing up. Baby giraffes are 6 feet tall and weigh an average of 150 pounds when they are born. Each giraffe has unique markings that distinguish it from others. No two giraffes have exactly the same makings. A giraffe's neck can measure up to 5 feet in length. A giraffe can run at a speed of 35 miles per hour. They have also been known to jump up to 6 feet. Male giraffes stand up to 18 feet tall and weigh up to 4,000 pounds. Females grow up to 16 feet tall and weigh approximately 2,500 pounds. Giraffes need very little sleep and may only sleep between 20 minutes to two hours out of a twenty-four hour period. Giraffes have elongated vertebrae in their necks that protrude at the top of the giraffe's head forming small blunt horns. A giraffe eats about 140 pounds of food a day. The hooves of an adult giraffe are about 12 inches wide. A male giraffe can tell if a female is fertile by tasting her urine. Male giraffes perform a type of dance to impress fertile females.
CAPRICORN - This is not the time to sweep anything under the carpet but to be above board in everything that you do. Make sure that you manage any disagreements or arguments promptly to avoid festering and a scene at a later date. There is intensity within a relationship and you have to watch that you are not too impatient – let things develop naturally and at their own speed. Career prospects are looking good and you are likely to impress someone in authority with your innovative ideas. AQUARIUS - An assessment of shared resources and drawing up a budget that is workable is priority for you. Your personal life is taking centre stage; partnerships and how you deal with an intimate relationship are at the forefront of your mind. There will be a lot of support for you from family and friends. However, you are likely to become restless towards the middle of September and will seek an adventure by travelling or giving your time to a humanitarian quest. PISCES - Emotions are running high lately but not necessarily your own; you may find you are empathising with those who are in need of some tender loving care. A sense of duty may be magnified around 15th and you will wonder how best to handle the situation – perhaps speak with an objective friend and use them as a sounding board, it will help you get things into perspective. You are about to turn a new corner of your life by saying goodbye to something from the past, this will enable a new vista to open up before you.
ARIES - This is a month when you will be looking at getting everything in order. Work responsibilities weigh down upon you and you will be reviewing ways of lessening the burden, enabling you to glide through your job, at an easier pace. You may feel a bit fed up of watching the pennies and are likely to splash out on some fun. The 26th can be a provoking day so plenty of physical exercise is your way to relieve stress. Someone may need a shoulder to lean on and you are willing to help in any way you can. TAURUS - The priorities for September change and enjoyable pastimes become your focus, romance is calling you and it is likely that you will get quite serious and ‘on fire’ over a particular person. Any ideas you have are infused with want and passion and life takes on a more satisfying and comfortable feel. Your spirits are due to be lifted, fresh air, good company and wholesome food put you on the right track. Your routines need spicing up, perhaps life has become just too mundane in certain areas and you will be seeking to inject a taste of adventure into everything you do.
GEMINI - Seeking balance and playing the role of the peacemaker makes for a diplomatic September when you will want harmony within the home environment, your immediate family and domestic routines. You will have some strong money making ideas and it may be in your interest to pursue them even though others may be doubtful. Someone’s silence could bother you, making you curious as to their intentions, why not coax them out of their shell with a meal, the result could be illuminating.
CANCER - Your energy levels are on the up and you begin the month in a sociable and optimistic frame of mind. The missing pieces of a jigsaw are being revealed and this will enable you to make plans for the future. Emotional ups and downs seem part of the course and September will throw its fair share your way. All experience seems to have an underlying emotional intensity to it particularly your personal life. By the end of the month your wishes may come true – so think big, dream big and love big.
LEO - Financial responsibilities demand attention around the middle of the month when a taste for luxury and comfort may have seen you spending more money than you earn. Domestic pressures are maybe causing you to feel frustrated, this is only because your mind is on other things at the moment and you are not giving the mundane, your full attention. You need to see the value in traditional methods associated with law, money and inheritance.
VIRGO - If you want to make an impression then this is the month to do it, you have a magnetic air about you that others just can’t forget. This, therefore, is a great time for interviews, going for that promotion or pay rise, or anything that relies on your personality for success. Single Virgos could meet someone of a like mind and if attached then love will definitely get a well needed boost. You are popular within your social scene as you are the one that everyone comes to for advice.
LIBRA - Sorting out the ‘wheat from the chaff’ takes a lot of your time this month but is a necessary part of simplifying your life to a more manageable size. Lately, events may have been snowballing and there has probably not been time to sit back and be objective with how hectic your life has become. By mid-month you will find the motivation to start a new structure that fits in with ‘you’ and your needs. This is a time of change for you and whatever you put your mind to you can accomplish. SCORPIO - The urge to focus your mind is strong and you have a real need for mental stimulation. Starting a course or home study now will pay off later in the year for your ability to absorb and recall information is higher than ever. Networking is also highlighted and your social circle is set to increase. Your desire for knowledge is so intense that you may be neglecting a loved one, especially mid month, so why not make sure you treat them to an evening of romance, making sure the fires of love are kept alight.
SAGITTARIUS - The world responds so well to you when you allow yourself to shine and this September sees you taking back your own power within a situation and claiming what is rightfully yours. No-one can fault anything that you do as you engage everything with competence, responsibility and tenacity. Your personal life may take a back seat for the time being to allow you to give all to your professional arena. Make sure you are not too blinkered to notice that someone may be interested in you in other ways.
under $3 million. The prisoners get the benefit of about .28c an hour for working. Most
You remember Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona, who painted the jail cells pink and made the inmates wear pink prison garb. Well...........SHERIFF JOE IS AT IT AGAIN! Maricopa County was spending approx $18 million dollars a year on stray animals. Sheriff Joe offered to take the department over, and the County Supervisors agreed. The animal shelters are now all operated by prisoners. They feed and care for the strays. Every animal in his care is taken out and walked twice daily. He now has prisoners who are experts in animal nutrition and behavior. His budget for the entire department is now
of his budget is for utilities, building maintenance, etc. He pays the prisoners out of the fees collected for adopted animals. I have long wondered when the rest of the country would take a look at the way he runs the jail system. He has a huge farm, donated to the county years ago, where inmates can work. They grow most of their own vegetables and food, doing all the work and harvesting by hand. He has a pretty good sized hog farm, which provides meat, and fertilizer. It fertilizes the Christmas tree nursery, where prisoners work, and you can buy a living Christmas tree for $6 - $8.
He was re-elected last year with 83% of the vote. Now he's in trouble with the ACLU again. He painted all his buses and vehicles with a mural, that has a special hotline phone number painted on it, where you can call and report suspected illegal aliens. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement wasn't doing enough in his eyes, so he had 40 deputies trained specifically for enforcing immigration laws, started up his hotline, and bought 4 new buses just for hauling folks back to the border. Sheriff Joe Arpaio (In Arizona) created the 'Tent City Jail'. He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them. He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took away their weights & cut off all but 'G' movies. He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects. He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order that required cable TV for Jails so he hooked up the cable TV again and only let in the Disney channel
and the weather channel. He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value. When the inmates complained, he told them, 'This isn't the Ritz/Carlton...... If you don't like it, don't come back.' Inmates complained of the furnace they lived in (their tents) when temperatures reached 138 degrees inside. Joe Arpaio, who created the tent city and long ago started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic.... He told inmates: 'It's 120 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they have to wear full battle gear, but they didn't commit any crimes, so shut your mouths!' Maybe if all prisons were like this one there would be a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders. Criminals should be punished for their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for their parole, only to go out and commit another crime so they can get back in to live on taxpayers money and enjoy things taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves.
Honouring those who improve the species... by accidently removing themselves from it! Wife Tossing in Buenos Aires (1998, Buenos Aires) Did he win the argument? It happened in February 1998 in a working-class Boedo neighborhood. During a heated marital dispute, a 25-year-old man picked up his 20 year old wife and threw her off their eighth-floor apartment balcony. To his dismay, she became tangled in the power lines below. He immediately leapt from the balcony and fell towards his wife. We can only speculate as to his reasons. Was he angrily trying to finish the job, or was he remorsefully hoping to rescue her? He did not accomplish either goal. He missed the power lines completely, and plunged to his death. The woman managed to swing over to a nearby balcony and was saved. Macho Men? Some men will go to extraordinary lengths to prove how macho they are. Frenchman Pierre Pumpille recently shunted a stationary car two feet by headbutting it. "Women thought I was a god," he explained from his hospital bed. Deity or not, however, Pumpille is a veritable girl's blouse compared to Polish farmer Krystof Azninski, who staked a strong claim to being Europe's most macho man by cutting off his own head in 1995. Azninski, 30, had been drinking with friends when it was suggested they strip naked and play some "men's games". Initially they hit each other over the head with frozen turnips, but then one man upped the ante by seizing a chainsaw and cutting off the end of his foot. Not to be outdone, Azninski grabbed the saw and, shouting "Watch this then," he swung at his own head and chopped it off. "It's funny," said one companion, "when he was young he put on his sister's underwear. But he died like a man." Short Circuit (March 1989, South Carolina) Michael Anderson Godwin was a lucky murderer whose death sentence had been commuted to life in prison. Ironically, he was sitting on the metal toilet in his cell and attempting to fix the TV set when he bit down on a live wire and electrocuted himself.
Aletta Jacobs (1854 - 1929) was the first female university student in the Netherlands, the first female doctor, and the operator of perhaps the first birth control clinic in the world. On a personal level, she was one of the first women to keep her maiden name after marrying. She campaigned for women's rights, and she was part of an international group of early feminist leaders who opposed war. Jacobs faced resistance almost every step of the way, from examiners who tried to block her from entering medical school to fellow doctors who attacked her promotion of birth control. Yet Jacobs bore these controversies with a matter-of-fact determination. She did not set out to be a pioneer, only to follow in the footsteps of her physician father, and throughout her career she insisted only on being treated equally. The eighth of eleven children born to progressive Jewish parents, Jacobs was born in the Dutch city of Sappemeer on February 9, 1854. The Jacobs family valued education highly and made sacrifices so that all their children could receive education. According to Jacobs's autobiography Memories, from the start, Jacobs wanted to become a doctor like her father. Her parents tried to steer her toward more feminine pursuits like dressmaking and sent her to a finishing school. The latter ended after two weeks when Jacobs failed to master the curtsy and refused to practice looking down when a man looked at her on the street. Finally it was decided that Jacobs should study to become a pharmacist's assistant. She did well in her pharmacy exams but Jacobs had much bigger plans. Writing to the countries reform-minded prime minister asking that she be allowed to attend medical classes at the University of Groningen. He wrote back, asking her father whether she was really ready for such a move, but was finally granted permission. In 1871, Jacobs became the first woman to enter a Dutch university.
Despite having to contend with hostility from many Jacobs received her medical degree in 1878. Jacobs then wrote a doctoral thesis on brain diseases, and was awarded a doctorate in medicine in March 1879. Jacobs took over her father's practice temporarily after he suffered a stroke. Later that year she opened her own practice in Amsterdam. Jacobs caused a sensation in Amsterdam with her disregard of social norms. Jacobs's renown grew and inspired by conversations with Dutch trade unionist B.H. Heldt she began giving early childhood health classes to young women and opened a free clinic for the poor. She campaigned against prostitution and in favour of better working conditions for Dutch women. Jacobs's most far-reaching and controversial innovation, however, was her introduction of birth control into the Netherlands. At the time, the modern type of diaphragm had only recently been invented; Jacobs read about it in a German medical journal and wrote to the article's author. After testing the device, called a Mensinga pessary, on willing volunteers, Jacobs announced that she could provide safe and effective contraception to women wishing to avoid pregnancy. This announcement brought the full wrath of Holland's medical establishment and she was attacked for everything from promoting adultery to threatening the country's economic future but Jacobs did not lose her determination during this difficult period. "It was an age steeped in hypocrisy!" she wrote. "I am particularly thinking of those clergymen who would denounce contraception from the pulpit and then pack their wives off to my office. In the later years she became president of the Dutch Association for Woman Suffrage in 1903. She retired from her practice the following year, 25 years after she had begun it. After her husbands death in 1905 she devoted much of her energy to the suffrage cause and travelled the world giving lectures in favour of women's rights, and she lived to see Dutch women receive the right to vote in 1919. A statue of Jacobs stands in an Amsterdam street, and she is well remembered in her country. After the publication of her Memories by the Feminist Press in 1996, her pioneering role became better known in English-speaking countries as well.

Tonto A man boarded an aircraft at London ’s Heathrow Airport for New York , and taking his seat as he settled in, he noticed a very beautiful woman boarding the plane. He realized she was heading straight toward his seat and bingo - she took the seat right beside him. "Hello", he blurted out, "Business trip or vacation?" She turned, smiled enchantingly and said, "Business. I'm going to the annual nymphomaniac convention in the United States ." He swallowed hard. Here was the most gorgeous woman he had ever seen sitting next to him, and she was going to a meeting for nymphomaniacs! Struggling to maintain his composure, he calmly asked, "What's your business role at
this convention?" "Lecturer," she responded. "I use my experience to debunk some of the popular myths about sexuality.." "Really", he smiled, "what myths are those?" "Well," she explained, "one popular myth is that African-American men are the most well endowed when, in fact, it's the Native American Indian who is most likely to possess that trait. Another popular myth is that French men are the best lovers, when actually it is the men of Greek descent. We have also found that the best potential lovers in all categories are the Irish." Suddenly the woman became uncomfortable and blushed. "I'm sorry," she said. "I really shouldn't be discussing this with you, I don't even know your name!" "Tonto," the man said. "Tonto Papadopoulos, but my friends call me Paddy."

A Physical OLD people have problems that you haven't even considered yet! An 85-year-old man was requested by his doctor for a sperm count as part of his physical exam. The doctor gave the man a jar and said, 'Take this jar home and bring back a semen sample tomorrow.' The next day the 85-year-old man reappeared at the doctor's office and gave him the jar, which was as clean and empty as on the previous day. The doctor asked what happened and the man explained, 'Well, doc, it's like this - first I tried with my right hand, but nothing. Then I tried with my left hand, but still nothing. 'Then I asked my wife for help. She tried with her right hand, then with her left, still nothing. She tried with her mouth, first with the teeth in, then with her teeth out, still nothing. 'We even called up Arlene, the lady next door and she tried too, first with both hands, then an armpit, and she even tried squeezing it between her knees, but still nothing.' The doctor was shocked! 'You asked your neighbour?' The old man replied, 'Yeah, none of us could
get the jar open.' A Celebration A chicken farmer went to a local bar, sat next to a woman and ordered a glass of champagne. The woman perks up and says, 'How about that? I just ordered a glass of champagne too!' 'What a coincidence, 'the farmer says, 'This is a special day for me, I'm celebrating.' 'This is a special day for me too, I'm also celebrating!' says the Woman. 'What a coincidence' says the man. As they clinked glasses the farmer asked, 'What are you celebrating?' 'My husband and I have been trying for years to have a child, and today my gynaecologist told me that I'm pregnant!' 'What a coincidence,' says the man, 'I'm a chicken farmer and for years all my hens have been infertile, but today they're finally laying eggs.' 'That's great!' says the woman, 'How did your chickens become fertile?' 'I used a different cock,' he replied. The woman smiled and said, 'What a coincidence.'
