Urine trouble man Longview, Washington (The Weekly Vice) Gordon Flavia, a 56-year-old Longview man was jailed Tuesday after he allegedly ran into a carport with his vehicle, then hid in a port-apotty, spreading human waste on himself so police dogs couldn't track his scent. According to Longview police, Flavia was at a condominium complex in Longview when he reportedly got into his jeep, put it in reverse, and slammed into a carport belonging to the condominium building next door. He knocked down the carport roof's large support beam, completely destroying it, then went through a wall of the building and stopped in a bathroom. No one was inside the residence at the time, but neighbors heard the collision. Investigators say Flavia left his totaled jeep at the scene of the accident and fled on foot. Officers found him hiding in a nearby port-a-

potty. Police noted that he was soaking wet, and emitting a foul odor. When detectives questioned him, he admitted that he had splashed himself with the contents of a bucket outside the port-a-potty in attempt to throw off the scent of the police dogs that he thought were after him. Flavia was taken to St. John Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries caused by the accident. Officers believe alcohol may have been the cause of Flavia's outrageous behavior. He was administered a toxicology test, and may face DUI charges pending results. He also may be charged with hit and run. Police believe alcohol was a factor in Flavia's activities. Lets hope so eh? Designated driver aged 8: It's almost a weird news staple these days the parent who is too drunk to drive, so he (or she) lets their kid drive instead. This time, Billy Joe Madden, 28, of Hattiesburg, Miss., is the alleged drunk. A motorist called the state police when they spotted his 8-year-old son driving -- and not very well. In this case, though, the kid made it all the way to Louisiana: Madden allegedly told the boy to drive from home to Dallas, Texas, about a 600-mile drive. They were pulled over near Holden, La. The boy's 4-year-old sister was in the back seat. Madden, who troopers say was intoxicated, was charged with allowing a minor to drive, having an open container in the vehicle, driving without a seat belt, two counts of child desertion, and two counts of no child restraint, and held on $1,474 bond. (RC/New Orleans Times-Picayune) Captain save a Ho’ Jerald T. Navarre, 34, of Iowa City, Iowa, was arrested after police responded to multiple complaints about him harassing people. Officers found him shouting at people and smelling of alcohol, they said, and charged him with public intoxication. While Navarre admitted to being "a little drunk," he refused breath tests and told officers he was "needed" on the pedestrian mall to "protect women." Navarre is known to police as a self-professed protector of women who goes by the nickname "Captain Save a Ho". Navarre was released from custody after booking. (MS/Iowa City PressCitizen) ...I think we now know what it is local women need to be protected from.

Dubai Capital: Dubai City Population : 2.2 million Religion: Muslim Currency: dihram Languages: Arabic, English Land area: 3,885 sq. km History little is known about early inhabitants as only a few settlements have been found. Many ancient towns in the area were trading centers between the Eastern and Western worlds. The remnants of an ancient mangrove swamp, dated at 7,000BC, were discovered during the construction of sewer lines near Dubai Internet City. The area was covered with sand about 5,000 years ago as the coast retreated inland, becoming a part of the city's present coastline. Pre Islamic ceramics have been found from the 3rd and 4th century. Prior to Islam, the people in this region worshiped Bajir (Bajar)The Byzantine/Persian empires constituted the great powers of the period, controlling much of the region.. After the spread of Islam in the area,

the Umayyad Caliph, of the eastern Islamic world, invaded south-east Arabia and drove out the Persians. The earliest recorded mention of Dubai is in 1095, in the "Book of Geography" by Abu Abdullah al-Bakri. TheVenetian pearl merchant Gaspero Balbi visited the area in 1580 and mentioned Dubai (Dibei) for its pearling industry. Since 1799, there has been a settlement known as Dubai town. In the early 19th century, the Al Abu Falasa clan established Dubai, which remained a dependent of Abu Dhabi until 1833. On 8 January 1820, the sheikh of Dubai and other sheikhs in the region signed the "General Maritime Peace Treaty" with the British government. In 1833, following tribal feuding, the Al Maktoum dynasty decendants of the Bani Yas tribe left their ancestral home and quickly took over Dubai, without resistance. Dubai came under the protection of the UK in 1892, in which the UK agreed to protect Dubai against the Ottoman Empire. Two catastrophes struck the town during the 1800s. First, in 1841, a smallpox epidemic broke out, forcing residents to relocate east to Deira. Then, in 1894, fire swept through Deira, burning down most homes. However, the town's location continued to attract traders and merchants from around the region The emir of Dubai was keen to attract foreign traders and lowered trade tax brackets, which lured

traders away from Sharjah and Bandar Lengeh, which were the region's main trade hubs at the time. Persian merchants naturally looked across to the Arab shore of the Persian Gulf finally making their homes in Dubai. They continued to trade with Lingah, as do many of the dhows in Dubai Creek today. Dubai's proximity to Iran made it an important trade location. By the 20th century, The town of Dubai was an important port of call for foreign tradesmen, chiefly those from Iran, many of whom eventually settled in the town. Dubai was known for its pearl exports until the 1930s; the pearl trade was damaged irreparably by World War I, and later on by the Great Depression With the collapse of the pearling industry, Dubai fell into a deep depression and many residents starved or migrated. Dubai was constantly at odds with Abu Dhabi. In 1947, a border dispute, escalated into war. Arbitration by the British resulted in a temporary cessation of hostilities. Modern services, and an airport were established in Dubai in the 1950s, when the British moved their local admin. offices there from Sharjah. Oil was discovered in Dubai in 1971. This led to a massive influx of foreign workers, The population grew by over 300%.

On 2 December 1971 Dubai, together with Abu Dhabi and five other emirates, formed the United Arab Emirates after the former protector, Britain, left the Persian Gulf. In 1973, Dubai joined the other emirates to adopt a uniform currency: the dirham. Dubai continued to grow from revenues generated from oil and trade, even as the city saw an influx of immigrants fleeing the Lebanese civil war. Border disputes between the emirates continued even after the formation of the UAE; it was only in 1979 that a formal compromise was reached that ended hostilities. The Jebel Ali port was established in 1979. Jafza (Jebel Ali Free Zone) was built around the port in 1985 to provide foreign companies unrestricted import of labour and export capital. The Gulf War of 1990 had a huge effect on the city. Depositors withdrew massive amounts of money from Dubai banks. Later many foreign trading communities—first from Kuwait, during the Gulf War, and later from Bahrain, — moved their businesses to Dubai. Dubai provided refuelling bases to allied forces at the Jebel Ali free zone during the Gulf War, and again during the 2003 Invasion of Iraq. Large increases in oil prices after the Gulf War encouraged Dubai to continue to focus on free trade and tourism.

Nirvana Restaurant, El Higureron Traditionally the woman has been responsible for the food in the Indian home. Great care was always taken to select the best spices, roasting, grinding and mixing them in the right proportions to produce different and delicious dishes that were tasted by family and friends. These recipes were exchanged and new ones invented. This was enhanced by new cooking techniques gleaned from invaders over the years evolving into the fine art of Indian Cuisine. Portuguese missionaries introduced vinegar to Goa to add a sensational tang to vindaloo. The courts of the Moghul emperors of the 1600s and the British rulers of the Raj all dined on this rich cuisine thus inspiring many of the dishes we see today.

This knowledge has been passed from mother to daughter over the centuries. Now in Nirvana restaurant their own lady chef prepares your food with the same care and pride. They offer you a new style innovative cooking with a classical yet traditional edge. So you can take a culinary tour of India and try something unusual and different that is not normally found in most Indian restaurants, or you can stick to the all time classical dishes. Treat the menu as a culinary tour of India stop off and sample the regional specialities and make your dining experience one you will want to repeat again and again. Their aim is to bring regions of India to your plate, be it a mild Korma to a fiery Vindaloo, the choice is yours.

Vitamin Mesotherapy Facial mesotherapy, the lunchtime treatment in which vitamins are shot four to six millimeters below the epidermis to improve skin’s texture and tone. While the practice of injecting actives into the skin has existed for more than 50 years, these vitamin cocktails, packed with legit antiaging ingredients, have little in common with the sketchy “fat-melting” mystery mixes popularized in mall spas. “When you deposit vitamins directly into the skin with a needle, you’re giving the tissues exactly what they need, where they need it,” says Lionel Bissoon, DO, a NYCbased mesotherapist who is credited with being the first to bring the treatment from France. According to Bissoon, oral or topical vitamins can’t offer similar results. Bissoon uses a handheld mesotherapy gun to inject between eight and 16 minuscule shots of a customized, strictly multivitamin blend—including low concentrations of vitamins A through E—into specific facial points, such as the forehead, cheekbones, and outer corners of the lips. After a series of four to six weekly treatments, Bissoon claims that skin looks “fresher and more radiant” and requires approximately three to four touch-ups a year afterward. In addition to light bruising, patients might experience pinpoint bleeding and swelling. Currently, the FDA does not regulate the compounded vitamins injected by practitioners. “They’re natural supplements, not drugs, so we can use them off-label,” says Donna Tozzi. “It’s a natural injectable,” says Tozzi, who notes that adverse reactions to her formula are rare. She recommends four weekly treatments. “In the short term, vitamins immediately plump up the skin,” Tozzi says. “But unlike other fillers, they also create structural changes over time.” So far, there’s just one peer-reviewed study addressing facial mesotherapy. “It probably does promote some antiaging,” says David J. Goldberg, MD, professor of dermatology at NYC’s Mount Sinai School of Medicine. “But without clinical results, it’s really medi-spa hype at this point.”

His research, examined 10 subjects who underwent four sessions of vitamin mesotherapy. After six months, “there was no statistically significant improvement,” Goldberg says, “but we did see some microscopic evidence of new collagen formation.” Forty percent of his testers also reported an immediate but temporary change in skin’s firmness. Bissoon argues that, as with topical creams, mesotherapy takes time and consistency. “If skin is constantly aging, you constantly have to treat it,” he says. “You can’t just call it quits after six months.” For more information Contact Katie at Divas Hair in Calahonda see advert below

Victoria Beckham: I want pert breasts again Posh wants her pre-baby body back Victoria was a 34DD back in 2007 she’s got four adorable children, one of the world's sexiest men for a hubby and an awardwinning fashion label. So what could Posh want in the New Year? Well, new breasts! The style icon, 37, has told friends she's considering getting a boob job now she's stopped breast-feeding five-month-old Harper. ‘She doesn't want them any bigger than a B cup, but she'd like them done so they're pert again,' says a pal. ‘They grew while she was pregnant with Harper, but obviously there's also an effect on them afterwards.' This isn't the first time Posh has had help in the cleavage department. Back in 1999, after the birth of Brooklyn, now 12, she underwent a £10,000 breast enlargement, taking her from a B cup to a DD. For years she denied having surgery. But in 2005, court papers, which emerged during a libel case, revealed she'd had ‘breast enhancement surgery'. And in an interview with Vogue in January 2011, she let slip that she had the implants removed, saying: ‘No torpedo bazookas. Gone.' Her body's been through a bit of a transformation since then, thanks to her recent pregnancy. Although she got her size 6 figure back just weeks after Harper's birth in July, Victoria's now talking to David Beckham, 36, about getting her boobs done Posh's spokeswoman has strongly denied she's thinking of more surgery, but a friend says: ‘She's looking into it. She isn't going to have another kid, so she knows it's the perfect time to do it.' Demi Moore: I want to meet Ashton Kutcher's other woman New Year...new feud! Demi Moore wants to know the truth about Ashton KutcherAfter learning that her toyboy hubby strayed with a woman 26 years her junior, you'd think the last thing Demi Moore would want to do is meet up with Sara Leal, 23, the student who helped ruin her marriage. But that's exactly what the star plans to do in 2012, in a desperate bid to get some closure on her relationship with Ashton

Kutcher, 33. A source says: ‘Demi's furious that Sara's still seeking fame and publicity over the affair.' In a recent interview, Sara spoke of how the fling had ‘ruined' her life because she'd lost her job and been shunned by family. That didn't go down well with Demi, 49. 'She lashed out, telling friends that Sara's "the most selfish woman alive",' adds our source. ‘Demi couldn't believe Sara's audacity in saying her life had been ruined when she's the one still grieving over her failed marriage. ‘Not once has Sara attempted to apologise to Demi, which has made her even more incensed.' One Direction's Harry Styles isn't The Xtra Factor presenter's usual type Caroline Flack hasn't always gone for toy boys She has been labelled a cougar since hooking up with 17-year-old One Direction singer Harry Styles But the 32-year-old Xtra Factor presenter hasn't always gone for cheeky younger men - she normally likes a bloke with whiskers.'My mum says all my boyfriends are identical,' says Caroline.'Tall, dark and handsome, probably with a beard.'But Caroline denies she always picks the same kind of guy.'I don't really have a type,' Caroline told S Magazine. 'Sometimes you just have a connection and it doesn't matter who they are, what they do or where they're from. One Direction star Harry Styles is smitten with Caroline Flack Harry Styles and Caroline Flack's relationship seems to be really taking off.He admitted he liked older women. The 17-year-old One Direction heartthrob has never been shy in admitting he's got a crush on Caroline, and though she has insisted they're just 'good friends', it seems she's been taken in by Harry's charms. 'Things (are) getting serious between Harry and Caroline,' a source tells the Daily Mirror. 'They are always running off to grab 5 minutes over the phone and secretly arranging to meet up.' Early Indications Good communication is essential for learning and building relationships, but how can parents spot if something is not quite right? There are certain milestones that children are expected to achieve within specific age ranges. (See www.talkingpoint.org.uk for Basics: Ages and Stages.) This covers the play skills, attention, understanding, expressive language and speech sounds that are emerging as your child grows. Advice should be sought if the following factors are evident: Late talkers – children not talking by 18 months – 2 years old. 2 – 3 year olds not putting words together to form simple phrases. (e.g. ‘car gone’, ‘Daddy’s shoe’) Not playing with toys in ways that would be expected (e.g. does not ‘pretend’ by 4 years old; is “stuck” on only one type of toy or routine) Child getting frustrated when trying to communicate. Adults don’t understand what child is saying (speech sounds are mixed up). This may be within normal development (e.g. a child of 2 years old saying “tun” for sun or “tat” for cat), but if these irregularities continue, there may be a difficulty processing or discriminating the sounds. If untreated this can affect literacy skills. Child not understanding what is being said to them, can’t follow instructions. Poor interaction with peers, not many friends. Child struggling at school Dyslexia It is difficult as a parent to understand and recognize dyslexic – type difficulties. Dyslexia itself is a very complex difficulty and there are many different traits, making early indicators difficult to spot. Other specific learning difficulties can present with similar indicators – therefore a qualified specialist assessment is essential to ascertain the causes as well as the symptoms, the weaknesses as well as the strengths and strategies that the child possesses. Advice should be sought if the following indicators are present: If your child had delayed / disordered language when younger

Poor fine motor skills (e.g. messy eating, sloppy handwriting). With older children – forgetting which hand is for the knife and fork, problems with right and left orientation, letter reversal, omitting vowels from words or letters mixed up. If a child has difficulties recalling the names of common objects (e.g. says “thingy” a lot) and difficulties remembering instructions – especially when given in a sequence. Unexplained difficulties learning the alphabet – managing to learn other things very well – but difficulty “cracking the code” of written words / letters. Difficulties with rhythm and rhymes. Difficulties with remembering lists / items / sequences (days of week / months of year) Poor organizational skills, forgetting school things, difficulty following timetables, may be untidy in appearance and messy when working. Homework taking “forever” to complete – even when parents try to help! Reluctance / unhappiness around school. Parents are the ‘experts’ on their child – so if you do have any concerns arising, it is always best to seek some advice and reassurance. A health visitor or your child’s teacher may be able to dispel any worries that you have, but if you still have questions about your child’s communication or learning issues it is worth discussing with a Speech & Language Therapist or Special Needs Support Consultant. At LSC we prefer to work with parents and class teachers – so that a complete profile of the child can be obtained, and to promote consistency for the child’s learning.Remember an up to date eye test and hearing test are important to ensure that there are no underlying difficulties in these areas, prior to any learning assessments taking place. Learning Support Consultancy is a Preferred Partner of Medilink and welcomes parents’ contact with questions and queries. They have a visiting Audiologist to the LSC offices and contacts with an English speaking optician who can assess children. For more Information on LSC or any of our other preferred partners please call Medilink on 952 93 38 76 “Sometimes a little reassurance can really help allay worries and we are happy to provide ideas and options for parents to be able to support their child”

2010 Reader Submission Pending Acceptance Couple Who Rode Freight Trains Found Dead In Coal Fri, 12/16/2011 - A couple who romanticized trains and lived a modern-day adventure by riding railroad cars across the U.S. were killed when a train dumped its load of coal at a Florida power plant. Ever since Christopher Artes was a teenager in suburban Maryland, he had an illegal and dangerous kind of wanderlust — hitching rides on trains. Over the summer, he fell in love with Medeana Hendershot, who shared his passion. They traveled from Georgia to Chicago, then back to Tennessee, with Artes sending his mother pictures along the way. They wanted to spend winter in Florida because it was warm. "If he had to die so young, at least he died at a moment where he was on top of the world," said Susan Artes, Christopher's mother. Artes, 25, and Hendershot, 22, were found in coal by power plant workers. It's not clear exactly when or how they died.

Sometime over the weekend, the train pulled into the city of Lakeland's power plant in Central Florida. As the railcars arrive, the bottom opens and cars drop coal several stories below onto a waiting truck. Officials were not sure if the couple was sitting on top of the coal or were riding in an empty car and dropped onto a mound of coal, then hit or buried by another load. Artes died from asphyxiation, meaning he was likely buried alive. Hendershot died from blunt force trauma to the mid-section, so she could have been hurt falling or by coal falling on her. In high school, he embraced the punk rock scene and met some "traveler kids," his mother said. He started to dress in black and had a lot of different hair styles and colors. It was then he began climbing aboard freight trains for short trips, either to get around, or for the experience. This summer, with his girlfriend, he embarked on his longest trip yet, with no set plans other than the adventure. The couple wanted to stay in Florida, then return to Maryland for a visit with his family in the spring. "I don't recommend it and I encourage people not to do it," said Kevin Rice, of San Luis Obispo, Calif., who writes about his train hopping adventures from 20 years ago on his website. Rice listed the dangers of riding the rails: falling off the car, getting robbed by a vagrant, being jolted or crushed when the train's slack lessens. "It was a great deal of fun and adventure but we could have gotten killed," said Rice, now 43.

The new SCALEMANAGER 2 pays for itself! The WORLD'S BEST electronic water descaler provides complete lime scale prevention! What and where is hard water? Hard water is water that contains high levels of dissolved minerals, mainly calcium and sometimes magnesium. As rainwater trickles over soft rocks like chalk and limestone, some of the minerals in the rocks become dissolved in the water, making it "hard". Hard rocks, like granite, do not easily dissolve in water and so areas where there are hard rocks, have soft water. Many areas in Spain have hard water containing high concentrations of calcium and magnesium. Water is very hard in the east and hard in the northen parts and most of the south. And softer in the north west Central and western region. Other than the sheer annoyance of cleaning the lime-scale and hard water spots away, there are other harmful disadvantages to having hard water. The calcium and magnesium deposits build up and layer in your pipes causing flow reduction. Another place that is detrimental to hard water build up is in your water boiler. As the heat is applied to the water heater and boiler, the calcium and magnesium minerals adhere and “cake” on to the inside walls and heating pipes. This causes the water heater and boiler to lose heating efficiency, eventually reducing its life span Now its time to break free from your “hard water” ? A dog is for life not just for Christmas So, Congratulations you decided on a new puppy or kitten for Christmas - now life will never be the same again. Hopefully you bought it from a reputable place. No matter where it came from you should have been provided with written diet and care details, along with its vaccination record. However I know many “so called “ breeders do not do this so these few details may help. Feeding / Health Care Your puppy should be on 3 or 4 meals a day of a good quality dry puppy , growth food and allow it to eat as much as it wants in half an hour. It is best to keep it on the food it has been weaned onto for at least the first few days then gradually change it onto your food of choice, as a sudden change of diet will possibly upset its stomach. Cats are grazers so kittens should have good dry kitten food available all the time. Always leave plenty of water available but never give kittens or puppies milk as many of them are allergic to cows milk and it will scour their stomachs. As your puppy gets older it will start to loose interest in so many meals so depending on the size it will be as an adult gradually reduce its number of meals until by the time it is a year old ( older for really large breeds ) you have got it on to one meal a day or if you prefer two smaller meals daily. Do not allow your dog to get over weight as you are only killing it with kindness, no dog should be obese. Kittens regulate their meal amounts on their own but I always leave dry food down for them even as adults. Puppies should have paper put down for them in a small area close to their bed and be regularly encouraged to use it as their toilet,as well as taking them into the garden. Cats and Kittens are very clean so you must make sure you provide your kitten with at least one litter tray as soon as you get it. What you don´t want is for it to be “fit to burst “and not be able to find its loo therefore have to go behind the sofa ,or somewhere equally as private, because if it does chances are it will return to the same place to “ spend a penny “ or do something even worse.

Vaccinations Kittens and puppies need a course of primary vaccinations for the major killer diseases starting at around 8 weeks of age. As kittens and puppies should not leave for a new home until they are at least 8 weeks old the first vaccination should have already be done. Many Vets unfortunately do not offer kitten owners the vaccination for Feline Leukaemia , which infuriates me as this awful, highly contagious, disease kills thousand of cats here in Spain. It is a long horrific death which can be so easily avoided with a simple, cheap injection. SO MAKE SURE YOU ASK FOR IT. The course of vaccinations won´t be completed, therefore your pet will not be protected, until at least 12 weeks of age depending on the age your Vet likes to give the injections. Until your pet is fully vaccinated great care must be taken not to expose it to infection ,therefore it should not have any contact with another cat / dog ,apart from your own, and should not be allowed out of your house or garden ( so long as no other cat or dog has access to your garden ) until it has completed its full vaccinations. After this yearly boosters are need for protection for the rest of its life. Worming I have written in a previous issue about the need for worming your pet, which should have been started by the breeder and must be continued by you for the rest of its life. If you are unsure ask your Vet for advise. Settling your puppy in It is very important to realise that when you take a new puppy or kitten home with you it will be taken to a totally new environment which will definitely upset and stress it to some extent. It is therefore important that you try to keep the degree of stress to a minimum, the reason for this is that stress can ( as with humans ) cause the animal to be run down and reduce its ability to withstand any infection it may be challenged with. A small amount of stress can cause slight diarrhoea for a day or so which can usually be corrected by giving a white meat diet of boiled chicken or fish and rice, after which its usual diet can be resumed . However should diarrhoea become more severe or there be blood in it , vomiting or the puppy be dull or listless, immediately contact your veterinary surgery. Portuguese Man o' War Portuguese Man o' War, actually are not actually true jellyfish, even though the physical appearance is like a jellyfish. They are not a single creature, but colony of individuals called zooids.

The name 'Man of War' is obtained from the similarity of his upper body, with that of a 15th century Portuguese battleship with a sail. They are also known as Blue Bottle Jellyfish. Their colour can range from a blue to a pink hue, with a translucent body. Portuguese Man o' War is often found with a variety of fish, including shepherd fish, clown fish and yellow jacket species rarely found elsewhere. The clown fish can swim among the tentacles with impunity, possibly due to the mucus that does not cause the nematocysts. The shepherd fish seem to avoid the larger, stinging tentacles, but feeds on the smaller tentacles below the gas bladder. Portuguese Man o' War consists of four separate polyps. The top polyp, pneumatophor, is filled of gas. Therefore, it floats on water. Three other polyps known as: dactylozooid (functioning as a defence), gonozooid (functioning for reproduction) and gastrozooid (functioning to eat). Another part of the Bluebottle jellyfish is a tentacle. Tentacles are thin and long. They can reach 30 feet. The tentacles are covered with nematocysts are full of poison to paralyse and kill fish and other small creatures. It eats small fish and other small ocean animals that is stings with its long tentacles. The poison in the stingers paralyses the prey, which the Bluebottle then eats.

Portuguese Man o' War live most commonly in the tropical and subtropical regions of the Pacific and Indian oceans, the Mediterranean and the northern Atlantic Gulf Stream, although found in warm seas throughout the world. There are few marine animals that are immune to the sting

Natural Predators One example is the sea turtle. Sea turtles are immune to the stings because their skins and shells are too thick to be stung . Therefore turning the Man of War into the turtle's favourite food. Sea slugs, (Glaucus atlanticus), Violet snail, (Janthina janthina), Blanket octopus and Ocean Sunfish are other predators of Bluebottle jellyfish. For humans, Portuguese Man o' War sting was very painful, and sometimes caused death. In Australia, Portuguese Man o' War is responsible for up to 10,000 human stings in Australia every summer, especially on the east coast, the coast of South Australia and Western Australia. Portuguese Man o' War cause fever, shock as well as heart and lung problems. If you're stung by Portuguese Man o' War pick off any visible tentacles, then rinse with fresh or salt water. Put ice on the area. Because you might go into shock it is important to get medical help as soon as possible. The toxins from tentacles are about 75 percent as powerful as cobra venom. Even dead Bluebottle jellyfish stranded on the beach and dead, it can still sting so don't touch them.

To winterise or not ? During winter months the most common question we get asked is ... Should we close the pool or continue with maintenance ? Swimming pools are similar to cars – a well maintained car costs money but they run reliably. If not well maintained the cost to put it right often exceeds the cost of maintenance. It is unwise to leave a pool empty as this can affect the structure of the pool – When torrential rain soaks into the ground around the pool it will cause stress on the walls... which can lead to cracks and then a leaking pool. If you intend to close the pool down for an extended period then savings can be made by buying a heavy duty cover winter cover – which is specially made to the specifications of your pool. This costs about 1.000 € for an 8 x 4 pool.

If you intend to close the pool down for an extended period then savings can be made by buying a heavy duty cover winter cover – which is specially made to the specifications of your pool. This costs about 1.000 € for an 8 x 4 pool. Then instead of putting a tub of winteriser (which costs around 50€ every 5 - 6 weeks) you will dose the pool with a large quantity of chlorine and leave the cover on for the whole of winter. When a pool is closed for a long time one of 2 things should happen... 1) The chlorine level should be raised and a heavy duty winter cover placed on top. 2) A tub of winteriser should be added to the pool which will need replacing every 5 – 6 weeks. In both cases we advise that the pump is left on for a minimum of 15 minutes per day. Our advice is it is cheaper and better for the condition of the pool to keep it maintained all year round. For further advice on any pool matters please call our shop/office on 952 591 053. Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm.

The Blizzard and the Blonde It was snowing heavily and blowing to the point that visibility was almost zero when the little Blonde got off work. She made her way to her car and wondered how she was going to make it home. She sat in her car while it warmed up and thought about her situation. She finally remembered her daddy's advice that if she got caught in a blizzard she should wait for a snow-plow to come by and follow it. That way she would not get stuck in a snow drift. This made her feel much better and sure enough in a little while a snow-plow went by and she started to follow it. As she followed the snow-plow she was feeling very smug as they continued and she was not having any problem with the blizzard conditions. After an hour had passed, she was some what surprised when the snow-plow stopped and

the driver got out and came back to her car and signaled for her to roll down her window. The snow-plow driver wanted to know if she was alright as she had been following him for a long time. She said that she was fine and told him of her daddy's advice to follow a snow-plow when caught in a blizzard. The driver replied that it was OK with him and she could continue if she wanted, but he was done with the Wal-Mart parking lot, and was going over to Sears next. An age old curse A man goes to a wizard to ask if he can remove a curse he has been living with for the last 40 years. The wizard says, "maybe, but you will have to tell me the exact words that were used to put the curse on you. "the man says without hesitation: "I now pronounce you man and wife."

Rabbi could be wise A Man Goes To See The Rabbi: "Rabbi, Something Terrible Is Happening And I Have To Talk To You About It." The Rabbi Asked, "What's Wrong?" The Man Replied, "My Wife Is Poisoning Me." The Rabbi, Very Surprised By This, Asks, "How Can That Be?" The man then pleads, "I'm telling you, I'm certain she's poisoning me, what I should do?" The Rabbi Then Offers, "Tell You What. Let Me Talk to Her, I'll See What I Can Find out and I'll Let You Know." The Rabbi Calls after a short time And Says, "Well, I Spoke To Her, For Three Hours. You Want My Advice?" The Man Said "Yes" The Rabbi Replied, "Take the poison’ Two Old Drunks I pointed to two old drunks sitting across the bar from us and told my friend, "That's us in 10 years". He said "That's a mirror, dip-shit!

Why I call him Honey? An elderly lady was invited to an old friend's home for dinner one evening. She was impressed by the way her lady friend preceded every request to her husband with endearing terms such as: Honey, My Love, Darling, Sweetheart, etc. The couple had been married almost 70 years and, clearly, they were still very much in love. While the husband was in the living room, her lady friend leaned over to her hostess to say, 'I think it's wonderful that, after all these years, you still call your husband all those loving names'. The elderly lady hung her head. 'I have to tell you the truth,' she said, 'his name slipped my mind about 10 years ago, and I'm scared to death to ask the cranky old asshole what his name is.'

THE RETURN OF SOUL I don't know whether you have noticed, but I think Soul Music is in a state of revival at the moment. For many years now, Northern Soul and the Motown sound have been bubbling away almost underground in the UK only escaping into Europe via special one-off parties in places like Spain, Ibiza and the Canaries. However, over the last 12 months more and more souls artists have been gaining recognition, not just in the UK, but throughout the rest of Europe. Acts such as, CeeLo Green, Imelda May, Smoove and Turrel and the greatly missed Amy Winehouse - even some of the old school acts like Seal and Beverly Knight are all bringing home the Soul. The Spanish charts Los 40 have even been reflecting this with a couple of Northern Soul style hits. So ok, describe Northern Soul........hmmm.......well my interpretation would be a very high energy Motown beat, mixed with a solid big band sound including brass and strings making it easy to dance to. A lot of the tracks had very limited release in the US and probably never saw the light of day in the UK or Europe. My first real introduction to Northern Soul was in the 70's when I discovered it was “cool” to play all of those fantastic Motown and Soul tracks from the 60's that had been shoved to the back of my record box. Most of the rarer tracks had originally been brought over from the states by the US servicemen who were stationed at bases around the UK. The demand for Soul music grew so much during the 70s that independent record shops started importing “rare Soul tracks” which were normally sold at ridiculous prices. DJ's like me would pay anything £20,£30,£50,£80, to have the rarest, never been played before import track, just so we could be the first to play it at a gig. The famous venues in the North of England like the Twisted Wheel, The Torch and Wigan Pier started to hold “All Nighters” with DJ's starting the night around 8pm and playing through till 7am the following morning . Each DJ doing maybe a one hour set then jumping into the car and on to the next club to repeat the same set at a different venue.

The whole Northern Soul scene became a total culture with seriously athletic dance moves, clothes and of course the music. I remember DJing at The Torch and playing a record I had only just purchased and before the track had finished a guy came rushing off the dance floor and said to me “50quid now I want that track”.....I still have the record Moody Woman by Jerry Butler and it is one of my favourite tracks but I can't help thinking that if I put it together with all my old Soul and Motown 45s on Ebay..,,,,,,,..but then NO!!! New artist are catching on to the sound of Soul and together with those classics ( even Rod Stewart and Seal have released Soul albums) and keeping the music alive and strong and long may it continue. If you don't believe me then just listen to 96.1fm Heartfm Spain or online at www.heartfmspain.com and enjoy the Heart and Soul of the campo Happy New Year - Keep the Faith - Lee Jay
