A different kind of correction: Vermont State Police Sgt. Michael Roy noticed something odd on a decal on his police car: One of the spots on the cow in the state seal had taken on the shape of Sus scrofa domesticus. That's a pig, as in the derogatory term for a cop. Investigation found that it had been that way for several years; a prison inmate-artist had changed the insignia on the prison-made decals. Authorities say they will hunt down all the altered decals. "It's going to be 'Where's Porky?' instead of 'Where's Waldo?'" said an ex-cop turned state legislator; they guess there may be about 60 in
circulation. Replacing them will cost taxpayers $13 per decal. What, if anything, it costs the offender may depend on whether he's still inside and thus subject to prison discipline. "I don't know if there is a criminal charge," said the state corrections commissioner, but investigators say it will take "weeks" to sort it all out. (AC/Burlington Free Press) ...I can't wait till someone gets a good look at the prison guards' shoulder patches. Martin Batieni Kombate, 44, was arrested last week in Flagstaff for trespassing and was set to be released under his own recognizance on the charge. But when the detention officers from the Coconino County Sheriff's Office showed up to escort him out, Kombate allegedly said he wasn't leaving. An officer from the Flagstaff Police Department was called over to speak to the man, according to a report. When the officer approached his cell, Kombate said he wouldn't go because he didn't know where his wallet was. Detention officers continued to tell the man he was being released and ask him to leave, but Kombate refused four additional times, according to the report. Finally, the officer asked him if he had any intention of going, and when Kombate told him no, the cell doors were shut and the man was officially arrested and charged with misdemeanor trespassing again. A jail population report shows that he was still in custody on Tuesday morning. Arizona Supreme Court records show that Flagstaff police have arrested him for trespassing at least a half-dozen times since 2009.

Many Globelink clients were relieved that they were covered by their travel insurance for Scheduled Airline Failure following the recent demise of Spanair and also Hungary’s national carrier Malev. It is hard to say in this difficult financial climate whether or not other airlines will get into a similar state, but it makes sense to ensure that you are covered – just in case. We seem to be receiving an increased number of claims from tourists who have drunk or eaten something that has not agreed with them. If you get sick, seek medical help immediately. The very high costs associated with this even in Europe are not the only problem as some people have been very ill indeed! We all know that local drinks might be a lot stronger that we are used to, but there have been serious illnesses and even deaths recently, mainly in Indonesia, India, Turkey where drinks have been contaminated with methanol. Remember, the costs associated with repatriation often far
exceed the cost of the medical treatment and you should ensure this is covered by your travel insurance policy. Extra care and good hygiene is essential whilst travelling anywhere. Beware of Rabies in Bali, Sarcocystosis in Malaysia, Dengue Fever in Sri Lanka and Malaria in Gambia and Kenya. It is recommended that you research your holiday destination and take all recommended precautions. Think twice before you decide on getting a tattoo, body piercing, manicure, a haircut or any treatment where there is a risk of broken skin whilst you are travelling. You might take home more than you expected unless you make sure that the equipment has been properly sterilised before it is reused. Estonia part 2 Reformation and Swedish Estonia The Reformation in Europe officially began in 1517. By the 1520s Language, education, religion, and politics were greatly transformed. The Church services were now given in the local vernacular, instead of Latin. In 1629, mainland Estonia came entirely under Swedish rule. In 1631, the Swedish king Gustaf II Adolf forced the nobility to grant the peasantry greater rights, King Charles XI withdrew large noble estates to the Swedish Crown effectively turning serfs to taxpaying farmers. In 1632, a printing press and university were established in the city of Dorpat (known as Tartu since 1918). This period is known in Estonian history as "the Good Old Swedish Time." The steady growth of the population continued until the outbreak of the plague in 1657. The Great Famine of 1695–97 killed some 70,000 people – almost 20% of the population. Russian Empire During the Great Northern War, the Swedish empire lost Estonia to Russia. The war devastated
the population of Estonia, but it recovered quickly. Although the rights of peasants were initially weakened, serfdom was abolished in 1816. After the Russian revolution of 1917, Tallinn remained under Soviet control until 24 February 1918, when Estonian independence was declared. As a result of the abolition of serfdom and the availability of education to the native Estonianspeaking population, an active Estonian nationalist movement developed in the 19th century. It began on a cultural level, resulting in the establishment of Estonian language literature, theatre and professional music and led on to the formation of the Estonian national identity and the Age of Awakening. After winning the Estonian War of Independence against both Soviet Russia and the German Freikorps, (the Tartu Peace Treaty was signed on 2 February 1920). World War II The fate of Estonia in World War II was decided by the German–Soviet Non aggression Pact and its Secret Additional Protocol of August 1939. World War II casualties of Estonia, estimated at around 25% of the population, were among the highest in Europe. War and occupation deaths have been estimated at 90,000. These include the Soviet deportations in 1941, the German deportations and Holocaust victims.
On 24 September 1939, warships of the Red Navy appeared off Estonian ports and Soviet bombers began a patrol over Tallinn and the nearby countryside. The Estonian government was forced to give their assent to an agreement which allowed the USSR to establish military bases and station 25,000 troops on Estonian soil for "mutual defence". On 14 June 1940, while world's attention was focused on the fall of Paris to Nazi Germany a day earlier, the Soviet military blockade on Estonia went into effect, two Soviet bombers downed the Finnish passenger airplane "Kaleva" flying from Tallinn to Helsinki carrying three diplomatic pouches from the U.S. legations in Tallinn, Riga and Helsinki. On 16 June 1940, the Soviet Union invaded Estonia. The Red Army exited from their military bases in Estonia on 17 June. The following day, some 90,000 additional troops entered the country. In the face of overwhelming Soviet force, the Estonian government capitulated on 17 June 1940 to avoid bloodshed. In August, 1940, Estonia was illegally annexed by the Soviet Union as the Estonian SSR. The repressions followed with the mass deportations carried out by the Soviets in Estonia on 14 June 1941. Many of the country's political and intellectual leaders were killed or deported to remote areas of the USSR by the Soviet
authorities in 1940–1941. Repressive actions were also taken against thousands of ordinary people. When the German army started against the Soviet Union, about 34,000 young Estonian men were forcibly drafted into the Red Army. Fewer than 30% of them survived the war. Many countries, including the US, did not recognise the annexation of Estonia by the USSR. The official Soviet and current Russian version claims that Estonians voluntarily gave up their statehood. German occupation The German Army crossed the Estonian southern border on 7 July. The Red Army retreated behind the Pärnu River – Emajõgi line on 12 July. After the Soviets were driven out from Estonia German troops disarmed all the partisan groups. Although initially the Germans were perceived by most Estonians as liberators from the USSR and its repressions, it was soon realised that they were another occupying power. This led many Estonians, unwilling to side with the Nazis, to join the Finnish Army to fight against the Soviet Union. Although many Estonians were recruited into the German armed forces the majority did so only in 1944 when the threat of a new invasion of Estonia by the Red Army had become imminent and it was clear that Nazi Germany could not win the war. Monkey lead singer dies age 66 It's a Daydream Believer's nightmare: after suffering a heart attack, former Monkees lead singer Davy Jones died at the too-young age of 66. It didn't take long for his fans, colleagues and star admirers to hear and mourn the untimely passing, and while not all his fellow Monkees have yet to release statements on their bandmates' death, Twitter quickly exploded with an outpouring of memories and tributes to the singer. Here's what the famous mourners had to say… Bandmate and costar Mickey Dolenz posted the following on his Facebook page, "Can't believe it...Still in shock...had bad dreams all night long. My love and prayers go out to Davy's girls and family right now..." Also among the first to express their sadness was Boyce and Hart, the songwriting duo who worked extensively with the Monkees, most notably penning "Last Train to Clarksville' and the Monkees theme. "This is the saddest news ever," they wrote on their Facebook page. "We have no words to express how we are feeling…condolences and loving prayers for his family, friends and his fans; the world has lost a dear man, loving husband and father; a great talent. "Thank you for your loving comments; we are saddened beyond words; loving prayers and sympathy for his family, friends and fans…a great talent and good friend lost today." Victoria Beckham loses out in Oscars red carpet designer dresses battle Victoria Beckham wore a dress from her collection at the Vanity Fair Oscars after party with husband David. Victoria was really looking forward to seeing the stars' dresses on the Oscars red carpet last night. The fashion designer, whose frocks are regularly worn by top celebs, is a big fan of two actresses in particular - and could well have been hoping they'd step out in Victoria Beckham creations. 'Happy Oscar day! Excited to see what Rooney Mara and Michelle Williams will wear x vb,' Tweeted Victoria. Disappointingly for Posh, Rooney, 26, chose a plunging white Givenchy gown for the occasion, while Michelle, 31, matched the carpet in her Louis Vuitton number.
But Victoria isn't too downhearted - stars usually call in a number of different options and the 37-year-old's design studio isn't large enough to cater for personal needs. 'We do have requests in from stylists for the Oscars, but as our team is so small we don't have the opportunity to custom-make dresses like the bigger fashion houses,' said Victoria's spokesperson earlier this month. 'Nor do we have the big budgets to pay people to endorse our brand, so it's really a waiting game and we won't know until the night if any of our dresses will be worn.' Aww! One Direction's Liam Payne reveals he's really missing his girlfriend on US tour 1D star's in the States supporting Big Time Rush Liam Payne might be busy touring America with One Direction, but don't think he's forgotten about girlfriend Danielle Peazer. Fans asked Liam how he's been coping without his girl on Twitter, and the 18-year-old singer was quick to give a soppy response. 'I miss her lots,' he wrote. See you next month

If you suffer from unwanted habits, addictions, phobias or even stress and fatigue, hypnotherapy could be part of the solution. Hypnosis….it really can help! Is the media telling you how to feel? It seems to be unavoidable these days. Pick almost any TV or radio channel and there it is……. The depressed economy…. Decreasing home values…. Rising unemployment…. It goes on and on……. Negative people sit on the sofa watching others speak negatively and think that the world is going to Hell…. Positive people are taking action to create a better life for themselves and their families, now and in the future. Isn’t it time to turn off the television and create your own reality? Success in life begins with self confidence and a positive attitude. When you are confident you stand tall, hold your head high and walk with a spring in your step! When you are positive you just know you can accomplish your goals. Successful people believe in themselves and in their ability to do whatever they choose to do. We are all born with self-confidence. However over-protective parents, overbearing teachers, siblings, employers and so-called “friends” can drain you of your self confidence. Hypnosis is the best way to get it back, because hypnosis changes you on a subconscious level: Once you believe in yourself and have a positive attitude You are in a position to really change your life. You can accomplish any goal you set your mind to
It’s a safe way of accessing the subconscious mind, which is the part of our mind that controls the way we think, feel and behave. In the first seven years of life we unknowingly accept-usually from our parents and other childhood influences-programmes or sets of instructions that dictate how we respond to lifes’ challenges. Some of these programmes may prevent us from leading a fulfilling life and some can actually contribute to various forms of illness. What hypnotherapy does is remove programmes that don’t work for you and put in ones that do work. The professional hypnotherapist does this by helping you to relax, and rather than feeling vulnerable and exposed, which is what most people fear about hypnotherapy, your level of awareness increases and you actually feel more in control of your situation. Whether help is needed to assist in the breaking of a habit such as smoking, weight loss, or to free yourself from anxiety, stress, phobias, lack of confidence or an addiction to alcohol, fear of dentist or surgery, positivity and strength to deal with Cancer of yourself or a loved one. Most people need a couple of sessions, but you can get results, just with the first session! Ann Borders a Preferred Partner of “medilink” is a UK trained hypnotherapist based in the San Pedro area. Surfs you right: 20th Feb 2012 ( pending acceptance )Saint-Benjamin, France "couch-surfing" is a dangerous derivative of "carsurfing", an activity, already known for its danger. Rather than climb on top of a moving car, the thrill seekers attach an old couch after a vehicle and are pulled like water skiing. The difference is that the adventure ends most of the time by the destruction of their "mount" as a result of friction with the ground. A young man of 22 years, François Hallée, died Saturday night in a car accident, after he and his friends had decided to be pulled by a rope behind a truck. The truck driver, Alex Labbé, appeared Sunday morning on criminal charges of dangerous driving causing death and hit and run.The accident occurred around 21:45 Saturday night, in the 6th Range in Saint-Benjamin, in Beauce. Four young men then took part in the dangerous game, where a truck-type pick-up pulling a chair and a sled with a rope. One person was in the chair, two on the sled, and another behind the wheel.
The ride turned to tragedy for the young men. The armchair zigzagged behind the truck. A car then appeared, striking with full force the wheelchair and its occupant. After impact, the truck driver left the scene and his three friends. The occupant of the chair, Hallée Francois, a 22 year old man from Saint-Georges de Beauce, was transported to hospital, where his death was noted. Others involved in the accident have not suffered serious injuries. The driver of the oncoming car is meanwhile remained at the scene until help arrived. The suspect driver in the accident, Alex Labbé, was arrested later that evening in St. Georges de Beauce by the Sûreté du Québec. He reportedly fled the scene of the accident because of his fear and shock.Alex Labbé, a man of 21 years as resident of Saint-Georges de Beauce, appeared Sunday morning by conference call. He had to answer to criminal charges of dangerous driving causing death and hit and run. He will be back for another appearance this morning at the courthouse in St. Joseph de Beauce.According to the Sûreté du Québec, alcohol is not involved in this accident. Investigators specializing in accident reconstruction scene were dispatched to try to clarify the precise circumstances of the drama. According to friends of the victim, it was not the first time when young adults were engaged in this game on the road. "We always think it happens to others” he said.
Matilda the Billie Goat When you work with animals professionally as Bill and I do and also helping animal charities voluntarily, animals are a 24/ 7 commitment and so become your way of life, so for us to get a complete day off is a very rare event, a few months ago such a day had come along - or so I thought . We had a relaxing cup of tea in bed and a leisurely shower then started to plan what to do with our day – big mistake !! because then the phone rang and a friend of mine, also a CHAIN volunteer, shouted “ I need a man “. It turned out she had been walking her dogs in the campo and she found a goat which was trapped down an unused service pit . Its back leg was so badly broken it was barely able to stand so the poor thing certainly couldn´t get out on its own. We met our friend as soon as we could , Bill got down the pit and managed to secure a rope around its waist ( do goats have waists ?? ) we then slowly and as gently as possible hauled the terrified animal out , screaming in pain . We put her onto a blanket in the back of our van and she immediately calmed down. Sadly we then set off for the Vets to do “ the act of kindness “ as her leg was so bad, but on the way there we decided she surely didn´t have to die, or so we hoped, just because her leg was broken, so we would ask the Vet to try to save her. However life isn´t that simple in Spain. When we saw our vet, we were told by Jill from ARCH, who was kindly translating by phone for us, that all the Vet was allowed do for the goat ,by law, was to give it pain killing, anti-inflammatory and antibiotic injections ,which of course he did . We were told that until the owner of the goat was found and he decided what he wanted to do with it ,or the goat became legally ours ,the Vet couldn´t operate to ease its pain or even put it to sleep if the need arose. So, armed with more injections for the next few days we took her home and settled her in with some food and a nice thick blanket to lie on as we had no straw. Once she was out of pain she looked like one contented little goat ,in fact lying on her pretty blue blanket with a full stomach I am sure I saw her smiling !! – perhaps she thought she really had died and gone to heaven. Even a goat must have its own papers and microchip-, but this little Billie had no micro chip ( now there¨s a surprise ) and its ear tag had been removed ,so we were told we must go to the Guardia Civil to report finding it and they would try to find the owner, in the mean time poor Billie must put up with her broken leg..
That evening Jill kindly came to the police station with us, but we were promptly informed that if there was no crime they didn´t want to know, so go to the Local Police. When we saw the local officer on duty and Jill explained again what had happened all he did was laugh, we could all imagine just what he was thinking about the crazy English !! He told us to come back in a few days and he would give us a letter to say the goat was ours. So, after another trip to the police station we finally had the “adoption “ paper and Bill had become the goats legal daddy, ahhhh. The Vet did not have time to perform the operation for another five days , Finally after more than a week Billie had her operation, luckily the Vet did not need to amputate the leg and was able to put pins in it . Now after 3 months, countless vet visits Matilda ,as she was named in a “ name the goat” competition arranged by CHAIN ,is living very happily at the ARCH stables with their rescued horses and donkeys. The pins have had to remain in her leg and she will always have a limp but she is another animal rescue success that makes all the effort worthwhile and CHAIN´s fund-raising so valuable. The Vet, Police Etc. I´ve spoken to who know about goats say that almost certainly she was intentionally thrown down the pit to die because she had broken her leg, Denise – Cat and Dog World Kennels, Alhaurin El Grande . A Date for your Diary ... Sunday 3rd June: CHARITY FAMILY FUN DAY A special Charity Family Fun Day is being organized for Sunday June 3rd to coincide with the Queens Diamond Jubilee celebration weekend in the UK. The event will be held at Lauro Golf Academy, on the road from Alhaurin el Grande to Alhaurin de la Torre. Organisers are now looking for charity groups to take stalls to raise money for their own organisations and a limited number of suitable businesses will alos be offered the opportunity to promote their products. There is no fee for charities although businesses will be charged €20 per pitch. Company sponsorship is also encouraged. The fun day will incorporate a traditional Family Sports Day, live entertainment, demonstrations, shows, stalls, tombola, beat the goalie, Bouncy Castle, games, candy floss, popcorn, wine tasting and much more. The highlight of the day will be a Family Sports Day organised by Kidz Inland, a voluntary group which runs regular events in the Coin and Alhaurin area. The Family Sports Day will take every kid back to the old school sports day events such as egg and spoon, beanbag race, sack race and a mums v dads tug-o-war event. Live music will be provided by the hugely popular Costa Rock who will give a performance of their 80s music through to rock numbers whilst there will be a series of demonstrations and shows by local theatrical, dance and sports groups. Food will be a mixture of traditional British fare through to curries and paellas whilst local stalls will also features cakes, biscuits and treats.
The event is also being run in conjunction with the 4th annual Big Lunch which falls on the same weekend as the Diamond Jubilee. The Big Jubilee Lunch will also be held at the Charity Family Fun Day with caterers providing a range of traditional food from the Big Lunch Recipe book. Back in 1977 some 10 million people partied in the streets to celebrate the Silver Jubilee. Event organiser Lisa Sadleir, of Family Life in Spain, is hoping the British community will get into the spirit of this event and encourages other nationalities to come along and taste a little of British culture. Lisa said: “This event is aimed at having fun! We are hoping that it will demonstrate the good old community spirit is alive and well on the Costa del Sol. The more charities that can benefit from the event the better. I look forward to hearing from you”. For further information and to book a stall contact Lisa Sadleir on familylifeinspain@gmail.com or tel: 608 840 692.

Colonoscopy After experiencing the discomfort and embarrassment of a colonoscopy in Marbella, I decided to have my next one carried out while visiting friends in Torremolinos, where the beautiful nurses are allegedly much more gentle and accommodating. As I lay naked on my side on the table, the gorgeous nurse began my procedure. "Don't worry, at this stage of the procedure it's quite normal to get an erection," the nurse told me. "I haven't got an erection," I replied. "No, but I have," replied the nurse. Lesson: Don't get a colonoscopy in Torremolinos . to trust her husband... for example...A wife comes home late at night and quietly opens the door to her bedroom. From under the blanket she sees four legs instead of two. She reaches for a baseball bat and starts hitting the blanket as hard as she can. Once she's done, she goes to the kitchen to have a drink. As she enters, she sees her husband there, reading a magazine. "Hi Darling", he says, "Your parents have come to visit us, so l let them stay in our bedroom. Did you say ‘hello’?” Aussie Wedding Night Aussie stockman and his wife had just got married and found a quiet hotel for their wedding night. The man approached the front desk and asked for a room. He said, 'We're on our honeymoon and we need a nice room, with a good strong bed." The clerk winked, 'You want the 'Bridal'?' The drover reflected on this for a moment and then replied, "Nah, I reckon not. I'll just hold onto her ears until she gets used to it."
Spring and summer are looming - now is the time to be getting ready for a hopefully better year than 2011, however, all the financial indicators are that 2012 may be even tougher. On the good news stakes people are going for it and starting new businesses all over the area….. that’s what we need a feeling of positivity and we at Heartfm want to do our bit to help get things going by reducing our rates to the lowest they have ever been. We have also brought back the” What’s on Your Business Card” feature - 2 read outs per day for just 10euros per week …….. cheaper than walking around wearing a sandwich board!!! Tommy James and the Shondells are probably best known for their song Mony Mony (a huge 60’s hit) but Tommy was also responsible for writing and originally recording “I Think We’re Alone Now”, a hit for Tiffany as well as a number of other hit tracks. Tommy granted us an interview a couple of weeks ago live from his home in New York during which, he talked about a new book he has written called “Me the Mob and Music” ……yes you read that right the record company Tommy and the Shondells were signed to was Roulette which was owned by The Mafia as a front for their various businesses in New York. Tommy explained “ he had to wait till now to write the book as he had to out-live all of the Mafiosa involved”. The book has already been re-written for a stage show and a movie with new songs from the band I can’t wait to see that on the big screen. Another fascinating chat we had was with Author Claire Louise Voet who has had a couple of books published including Whittington Manor. Claire is currently in negotiations with a national UK Television Company with a view to bring the Novel to our screens. Please have a look on Claire’s website www, clairevoet.co.uk she’s a very talented writer. Have a good month and enjoy the new programmes now on Heartfm 96.1 and remember….. if you can’t get us on your radio find Heart on your computer - www.heartfmspain.com Lee
