Batman seeks Robin: John Bray of Waipawa, New Zealand, needs a partner. He's part of a volunteer community patrol rganization, but decided to go solo after his previous parter kept falling asleep on duty. While Bray feels his experience with a reconnaissance and raiding unit in the British Army qualifies him to deal with vandals and other miscreants, the national Community Patrol organization has said the 91-year-old can only stay on the roster if he finds a partner. "I'm not getting my hackles up about it," Bray said, "I know their thinking. I mean, I know 70-year-olds who shouldn't be driving a wheelbarrow, let alone a car." While he had a recent fall and surgery, he's looking forward to finding a new partner once he's better. Waipawa patrol head John Carter hated to break the news to him. "We love him dearly," he said, "and we're desperately trying to find a partner for him." (MS/Dominion Post) ...He hopes for a much younger partner -- like 80.

3-Year-Old With Blowtorch Sets Neighborhood Fires -- Police in Shenango Township, Lawrence County. said it seems that a 3-year-old was able to operate a handheld blowtorch and set fires in his family's garage and on a neighbour's porch. Firefighters were called at about 9:30 a.m. Friday 6th May to extinguish the flames. Police said “somebody reported seeing the boy walking on Route 388, carrying the blowtorch and wearing only a T-shirt. "The torch itself has safety switches, and the child was able to manipulate them and turn the torch on," said Patrolman Darrin Cwynar. The boy burned a porch swing, a broom, a sliding door, a deck and a knob on a septic tank and singed an igniter on a gas grill. Damages were estimated to be almost $5,000. "The torch was right near the grill and the results could have been devastating, just could have been devastating," said Chief Rishel. "Fortunately, the child was not burned in any way, shape or form. That in itself is a miracle." When police picked him up, he told them where he lived, but nobody answered the door when they went there. Eventually, they were able to contact a relative."When I arrived on scene with the family member, he was able to gain entry through the garage, and we found there was a large pile of objects that were smoldering. The garage was filled with smoke," said Cwynar. Police said the boy's mother was asleep in the house, exhausted after having worked a midnight shift, and the father was at work. No charges have been filed while an investigation continues by police and the county's Children and Youth Services office. Let it go man!! Look what happens if you can’t just let go: Jay Rodgers and his family were headed home after a concert when they stopped at a gas station in Atlanta, Ga. Another man was walking in at the same time, and Rogers held the door open for him. The man's failure to acknowledge the gesture upset Rodgers so much that he asked the man why he didn't say "thank you." The man ignored him, so Rodgers followed him outside, still asking him for appreciation. Without saying a word, the man pulled out a gun out of his car and shot Rodgers. The bullet went through his intestine, just missing his spine. He was hospitalized for nine days, and off work for three months. When he finally recovered, Rogers went onto the TV news to tell his still-unknown assailant, "I'm mad, but if you're watching this, do the right thing and turn yourself in." (JW/WSB-TV) ...Sure, that'll work: the shooter is clearly a "do the right thing" kind of guy.

We finished with coffee even though there were lots of desserts to choose from. We just could not eat any more. We were searching in Torremolinos for a nice restaurant and saw the advert in the magazine, so we called into the kathmandu Nepalise/Indian restaurant which had just opened and we were not dissapointed. What a find it was a beautiful setting, decorated to the highest standard, we thought if the food was as good, we were in for a treat.

They also have a great selection of vegetarian starters and mains and at lunch there is a three course menu with side dishes and a drink for only 9.50â‚Ź and a dinner menu with side dishes and a drink for only 14.50â‚Ź. all in all a great place to add to our list of favourites and we will certainly be back, thanks Sentinella for a great tip.

We were warmly greeted by the owner Sharma and his staff and were shown to our table. The aromas from the kitchen had my mouth watering, we started with chicken sandhe ko pollo tikka pieces marinated with onion tomato coriander Mayo and lemon delicious.

(Mr & Mrs Levanter. Benalmadena )

This was followed by himalayan ross lamb and chicken tikka in a rich tomato sauce with himalayan nuts and spices served with light fluffy rice, such was the portion, we were so full.

Zimbabwe Area:386,669 sq km Population: 11,651,858 Capital City: Harare Official language: English Religion: syncretic (part Christian, part indigenous beliefs) 50%, Christian 25%, Currency: US Dollar (formerly Zimbabwian dollar) Sport: Cricket History By the Middle Ages, there was a civilisation that occupied the region, evidenced by ruins at Great Zimbabwe, near Masvingo, and other smaller sites. The main archaeological site is a unique dry stone architecture. Around the early 10th century, trade developed with Muslim merchants on the Indian Ocean coast, helping to develop the Kingdom of Mapungubwe in the 11th century. This was the precursor to the more impressive Shona civilizations that would dominate the region. The first British explorers, colonists, and missionaries arrived in the 1850s, and the massive influx of foreigners led to the establishment of the

territory Rhodesia, named after Cecil Rhodes of the British South Africa Company. In 1923, European settlers voted to become the selfgoverning British colony of Southern Rhodesia. After a brief federation with Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) and Nyasaland (now Malawi) in the post–World War II period, Southern Rhodesia (also known as Rhodesia) chose to remain a colony when its two partners voted for independence in 1963. On Nov. 11, 1965, the conservative white-minority government of Rhodesia declared its independence from Britain. The country resisted the demands of black Africans, and Prime Minister Ian Smith withstood British pressure, economic sanctions, and guerrilla attacks in his effort to uphold white supremacy. On March 1, 1970, Rhodesia formally proclaimed itself a republic. Heightened guerrilla war and a withdrawal of South African military aid in 1976 marked the beginning of the collapse of Smith's 11 years of resistance. Black nationalist movements were led by Bishop Abel Muzorewa of the African National Congress and Ndabaningi Sithole, who were moderates, and guerrilla leaders Robert Mugabe of the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) and Joshua Nkomo of the Zimbabwe African People's Union (ZAPU), who advocated revolution.

On March 3, 1978, an agreement was made to transfer power to the black majority by Dec. 31, 1978. They formed an executive council, with chairmanship rotating but with Smith retaining the title of prime minister. Blacks were named to each cabinet ministry, serving as coministers with the whites already holding these posts. African nations and rebel leaders immediately denounced the action, but Western governments were more reserved, although none granted recognition to the new regime. First Multiracial Elections Held The white minority finally consented to hold multiracial elections in 1980, and Robert Mugabe won a landslide victory. The country achieved independence on April 17, 1980, under the name Zimbabwe. Mugabe eventually established a one-party socialist state, in 1996 Mugabe won another six-year term as president. He has manipulated the elections ever since and remains in office Dr Livingstone I presume? Zimbabwe has a magic that has puzzled people for centuries, many of them famous, like David Livingstone the explorer, they felt compelled to come back again and again, each time the love becoming deeper than before. As sunny as their magical land, studded with granite hills, green and fertile plains, high moorlands and craggy, forest-topped mountains, rolling savannah and flowing rivers. The people from Zimbabwe seem to be from a

bygone era - an era that one sometimes yearns for. A simpler life, yet a bigger life and a life not engrossed with modern day complications. Legendary land of Ophir........... Rich in fable, too, Zimbabwe is the legendary land of Ophir, the ancient country that enriched the kingdoms of Hiram, Solomon, and Sheba with gold and ivory thousands of years ago. Certainly in the first millennium AD, long before Livingstone’s discovery, the lower Zambezi was a highway for Arab trade and later for the Portuguese. Like him, these early traders discovered a land blessed with one of the most idyllic climates in the world. Victoria falls The Falls are about 1000km from the source of the Zambezi River in western Zambia. Towards the end of a normal rainy season the flow of water over the Falls reaches 500 000 cum per minute. During the dry season the flow can be very minimal. It is difficult to see the Falls during the peak flow as the heavy spray obscures the Falls themselves. Nowhere else in the world apart from two locations in Zambia. The rare Taita Falcon and Black Eagle breed in the gorges. The Victoria Falls is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are many game viewing opportunities in the area as well as a wide variety of activities.

Alcohol is not highly addictive. The latest NHS statistics suggest that 9% of men and 4% of women show some signs of alcohol dependency in the UK. Set against the more than 30 million regular wine drinkers in the UK, this is a small percentage. So let’s be clear, alcohol is not a highly addictive substance. In order to become physically addicted to alcohol you need to drink exceptionally large quantities of it over a protracted period of time. And then the physical addiction builds slowly. Alcohol dependency is rarely a physical addiction, it is almost always a state of mind. The thing is, we use the term ‘alcoholic’ to cover a very broad spectrum of states. At one extreme we have the severe alcoholic, characterized by psychosis, liver failure, kidney failure and a raft of other dreadful consequences of alcohol abuse. At the other end of the spectrum we have the ‘borderline alcoholic’ with an emotional dependency. The classic profile of the borderline alcoholic is a person who, having been drinking steadily over a protracted period, finds (s)he needs drink on a daily basis, tends to have a drink as soon as the sun is ‘over the yard arm’, and is already thinking about having a drink by mid morning. Typically this person will consume at least a bottle of wine a day, and frequently more. They will usually start drinking just before lunch and continue steadily through the afternoon into the evening. Most mornings will bring a feeling of hangover, a ‘thick head’, a feeling of weakness and often depression, and a degree of impatience or anticipation for the first drink of the day. Typically at this early stage the drink is beginning to acquire a central role of importance in the day, and typically also, the person is aware that they have a problem and may be becoming alcoholic. There is a feeling of fear, sometimes panic, and this feeling is deadened by drink. Between these two stages there is a huge spectrum of smaller stages, and different people progress through them and different speeds. What is crucial – what is absolutely essential is that we understand that these –levels of dependency have almost nothing to do with the alcohol itself. These levels of dependency are states of mind; and like all states of mind they can be changed.

Why then do traditional experts claim that alcoholism is incurable? The answer is very simple. The traditional approach to alcoholism is behavioural and seeks to change the behaviour of the alcoholic. The alcoholic is driven by very powerful, unconscious compulsions that they cannot resist, so they are incapable of altering their behaviour without enormous support, and any return to drink will trigger the previous behaviour. Naturally the feeling is that their condition is incurable, and with behavioural techniques it is. But all behaviour is driven by the neural networks in our brains. Everything from the beating of your heart to chewing your lip and saying ‘like’ every three or four words - everything from preferring red to blue, falling in love with a particular kind of person or preferring romantic comedies to thrillers - all of it is encoded in your brain in neural networks that govern absolutely everything you do. One of the most important developments in psychology in the last century was the discovery by Richard Bandler and John Grinder that with certain techniques, many involving very advanced forms of hypnosis, a person could take control of the development of his neural networks and the biochemistry of his brain. Their discoveries lead to the development of Neuro-Linguistic Programming, a highly controversial branch of psychology, which studies how the brain thinks, how it encodes information, how it develops neural networks - and how these can be created, changed or eliminated by the use of given techniques. It is not easy, it involves a lot of soul searching, it requires the courage to admit that you have a problem and to face the origins of that problem. It requires the diligence to follow a programme of mental exercise and the will to take responsibility for your own actions, and your own life The key lesson here, the one we all have to learn, is that whether it is hard drugs, booze, the computer, a particular person or needing to wash your hands fifty times a day, the problem is not the outside object on which you focus your obsessive attention. The problem is that at some level in your unconscious, you make the choice to focus your attention obsessively. Learning to shift that focus is the trick. of all we show you how just letting your imagination play in drama class whilst making new friends can be so much fun.

Those lucky enough to have tickets for Casa Vazquez on Sunday 19th June were treated to one of this years best show productions (yet again by the talented Family of Sound group) Oliver “with a Twist” was another complete sell out, & this time the class tutors also took to the stage for their end of term musical. The convincing comedy duo of Mr. Bumble played by head drama coach Stuart Ashing & Widow Catchpole played by Jane Allum brought tears to the eyes especially when they launched into their version of “I shall scream” taken from the stage play. New comer Charlie Wakelin played a very convincing Bill Sykes & was the perfect straight man to his leading lady played by head tutor, writer & producer Sandie Ashing who wowed us all with her stunning portrayal of Nancy. Stealing the limelight was new comer Steve Brett who’s Fagin would have given Ron Moody a run for his money. Young Oliver & Dodger’s team work Alex Ashing & Charlotte Jones was a pure delight to watch The full cast of Orphans to Fagin’s kids sang & danced to some of the most popular songs from the musical, with the audience joining in they had obviously all worked very hard on this production. So now that Schools out for Summer ! Three months of our little darlings playing happily by the pool, ok maybe for some, but for others we are all looking for outlets to help burn off some of that excess energy that only children seem able to muster this time of year. Enrolling new members The family of Sound are a group of talented children and adults from a variety of backgrounds. The one thing we do have in common is the love of singing and acting, talent is always useful, however enthusiasm works wonders in the world of show biz. We teach you how to warm up your voice correctly, how to keep in time and reach that note, we teach how to project your voice on stage and deliver lines convincingly. Most

Honouring those who improve the species.... by accidently removing themselves from it! or almost! Love Crushed Sex 1999 Darwin Award Nominee Confirmed True by Darwin (June 1999, Florida) Okeechobee County investigators believe the death of Bryan, 28, was related to his wife's habit of stomping rabbits and mice for sexual pleasure. Stephanie, 29, was sentenced to two years of probation and community service for the death of her husband Bryan, who was found in a pit with a board over his body, crushed beneath the rear wheel of his sports utility vehicle. Stephanie did not deny that she drove over her husband, but in her own defence she released tapes to the police showing her stomping small mammals to death. She was identified by a cryptic tattoo on her lower leg. Such "crush" videos are sold to people who derive sexual pleasure from the sight of death, especially at the hands of a woman. "It was abhorrent and cruel," said Assistant State Attorney Bernard Romero. "My first instinct was to seek the maximum penalty."But Stephanie contended that

she was an unwilling participant in the videos, and had been beaten many times by her husband prior to his bizarre death. Stephanie was charged in July with two counts of felony animal cruelty, which were later reduced to misdemeanors. As for her husband, his death under the wheels of his car was presumably a loving sex act between consenting adults. But a man who would lie in a special pit while a woman he groomed for "crush" videos drove over him, shouldn't be surprised when he winds up holding a Darwin Award. Fatal Footsie 1999 Darwin Awards Runner-Up Confirmed True by Darwin (22 March 1999, Phnom Penh) Decades of armed strife have littered Cambodia with unexploded munitions and ordnance. Authorities warn citizens not to tamper with the devices. Three friends recently spent an evening sharing drinks and exchanging insults at a local cafe in the southeastern province of Svay Rieng. Their companionable arguing continued for hours, until one man pulled out a 25-year-old unexploded anti-tank mine found in his backyard. He tossed it under the table, and the three men began playing Russian roulette, each tossing down a drink and then stamping on the mine. The other villagers fled in terror. Minutes later, the explosive detonated with a tremendous boom, killing the three men in the bar. "Their wives could not even find their flesh because the blast destroyed everything," the Rasmei Kampuchea newspaper reported.

GaGa in poo doo In hopes of doing a good deed, Lady Gaga began selling $5.00 wristbands for Japan relief on her website, but a lawyer located in the mid-west recently filed a lawsuit against the singer's efforts. Alyson Oliver, an attorney based in Michigan, reportedly believes that not all the money for the wristbands is going to a relief fund for the devastated country after looking into the costs as well as the shipping charges. The lawsuit, which was filed on Friday in federal court in Detroit, seeks class-action status and possible refunds for people who bought wristbands. A spokesman for Lady Gaga said, "This misguided lawsuit is without merit and unfortunately takes attention away from the kind deeds of the fans around the world who are supporting the people of Japan. "The entire $5 donation made with the purchase of each bracelet is going to support the disaster relief. No profit is being made on shipping costs. Sales tax charges were made in accordance with local legal requirements. "Lady Gaga has personally pledged her own funds to this cause and continues to support the victims of the disaster. Jackass star dies in crash Bam Margera on Ryan Dunn's Death: "It Shouldn't Have Been Him" There was no way of hiding Bam Margera's sadness. The Jackass star sat down with E! News for an exclusive and emotional interview discussing his friend Ryan Dunn's fatal car accident. "It was pretty much the worst news I've ever heard in my life," Margera said.He also reminisced about his friendship with Dunn and the last words they spoke to each other... MORE: Bam Margera Furious With Roger Ebert for Slamming Ryan Dunn as Drinking "Jackass" Margera was accompanied by his wife Melissa "Missy" Rothstein for moral support as he recalled how he found out the horrible news. The daredevil was in Arizona at the time, when he was told by friends that he needed to speak to his brother immediately. And then he heard the news. What astonishes Margera even more was that this wasn't the first time something like this had happened.

He flipped me in a car eight times at the same exact spot in 1996. Thank God I had my seat belt on, because Chris Raab put one on me, but my brother didn't have one on. He flew 40 feet. Thank God he's alive. But like, Dunn was always a maniac at driving," he said. Bam pulled out his cell phone and read aloud the last conversation he had with Dunn via text messages. "Stopping for a beer, be there when I can," was the last message sent from Dunn the night his accident occurred. Had he known then what he knows now, Margera said that he would have made his friend hand over his keys so he wouldn't drive that night, but Dunn probably wouldn't have listened. Brad Pitt and others have sent their condolences to the television star. "I think it's rad that, you know, people I talk to rarely, you know, can take the time to text me." But that doesn't replace the emptiness he feels. "He was my best f--king friend in the world. It's been five days now and I can't stop crying man," Margera said. "I just don't think it should've been him. Ryan Dunn

As you enjoy your holiday be sure you can relax in the knowledge that your pet is safe, secure and well cared for in a professionally run ,licensed kennels, not in one of the many cheap “ cowboy kennels / carers “ that are springing up all over the Costa Del Sol, some of them even promising to look after your dog in their own home --- a house used for strange dogs, who naturally will “ mark their territory” by random peeing – would you like your dog to stay in such an unhygienic place ? A well run kennel will be pressure washed every day, which can not be done in a home !! Just because people say they have” had dogs all their lives” does not make them competent to care for your treasured pet as they would have had no training in animal husbandry or basic veterinary nursing. Spanish ( and UK ) law require that kennels or establishments where animals are kept for payment are inspected by government vets each year to obtain a license, if the place you board your pet does not have this license displayed together with a complaints book ( as every business is required to have ) they are trading illegally and your pet is at risk.. During an inspection the whole premises are checked for cleanliness and security this will include the animal accommodation, food preparation area, quarantine area and exercise areas, the required paperwork taken from the pets owner is also inspected. It is very important for you to visit the kennel you are thinking of leaving your pet in, without having to make an appointment, ( anywhere can be made to look good for a short time each day !) after all, you would not dream of leaving your child in a place you had not checked out thoroughly and like my husband and I, your pets are most likely “ your babies “ too, so don´t leave their care to chance. Be sure when you visit the kennel it does not smell, that your pets accommodation and run is large enough for its size, that it is light and airy and that they and the surrounding areas are clean and tidy and be sure there are no “behind the scenes “ areas where you are not allowed to inspect. There should also be large secure areas to allow your dog free running exercise each day without having to mix with other dogs.

The dogs should be at the front of their runs looking happy and maybe barking for your attention, adog cowering at the back is not a good sign The Cattery should be in a peaceful area some way away from the kennel area so that the dogs do not bother the cats. Each cat should have its own sleeping area and good size run and NEVER be mixed with a strange cat. A good cattery will also have sneeze barriers between each cattery house. The staff should always be friendly towards you and the animals in their care and be willing to answer all your questions ,don´t forget you have a big responsibility to your cat or dog as you are putting their happiness and well being in someone else´s hands. The kennels should always ask to see proof of your pets vaccinations ,if they don´t they are taking risks with your pets health by allowing unvaccinated animals onto the premises. Within the last month I have been told of another two dogs dying while in “ carers “ hands so, finally if you are not 110% happy with what you see and hear GO SOMEWHERE ELSE - be safe not sorry. It is a new Bowls club at Alameda, not farfrom Antequera off the A45. It is part of a lovely complex and has a good green. We played on five rinks in perfect weather. What nice people they are, it was a very good game with Mijas winning four of the five games. We had a lovely lunch after the game provided by the ladies of Posada bowls. We look forward to seeing them again. It’s now summer and from the beginning of June we have changed to evening bowling and have our Barbeque after the game on Thursdays. Anyone who wants to come and join us for a game will be made welcome. We have a full calendar during the summer and social events every month. The summer championships’ are at our club this year from the 17th to the 26th September. Then our Ball and Chain competition is from the 3rd to the 6th October 2011. TAPAS Hola and welcome to the July Newsletter Well after a bit of a funny start, I think we can truly say summer has kicked in. Some of us love it and soak up the rays, (sensibly I hope) and some of us are not quite so keen and search out every bit of shade and linger in the shops that have air-con! But what we Brits love to do is talk about the weather It’s a riveting subject to open a conversation with every time. I bet almost every person you meet next week will say, “Oh, its so hot “ and so will you and so will I! TAPAS take a break in August, so you will have the next Newsletter at the beginning of September, but if you need any information, log into the Website and it will all be there. – Have a lovely Summer Folks………… BETTY’S BBQ’ 23rd July Our last event of the season will be a fun BBQ at Betty & Ken Ross’s house, in the cooler hills behind Cartama Estatcion. Betty & Ken have a lovely home & pool, so bring your cossie’s if you fancy a cooling dip. There will be Pool Games for the energetic among us, great fun, and later on in the evening, a Disco.

The “NIE or Residencia ?” question is no more complicated than that. However, the decision whether or not to become a tax resident in Spain is a more complicated and in depth matter ... NIE or Residencia? There is a lot of confusion and conflicting information about whether you should apply for a “NIE number” or some form of “Residencia” when moving to Spain, living in Spain or working in Spain. There is one simple question to ask yourself, which will provide you with the correct answer to the question “Should I apply for a NIE number or Residencia?” That question is “How long do you plan to stay in Spain?” If you plan to stay in Spain for more than three months then you should apply directly for a form of “Residencia” . If you plan to stay in Spain for less than three months, then you should apply for a NIE number .

Importing RHD vehicles... There has also been unclear publicity about the rules and regulations for importing right hand drive vehicles to Spain. Let us clear up any confusion for you ... if your UK registered car has been in Spain for more than 180 days, you are legally obliged to import it into Spain or return it to the UK. The only* vehicle, at present, that cannot be imported into Spain is a RHD Commercial vehicle (*subject to conditions). For a no obligation quote to import your vehicle, email a copy of your log book to: info@ccbspain.com. Tel: 952 48 68 06 / 608 840 692 Visit our website: www.ccbspain.com

The Lataste's Viper is Spains most venemos snake closely followed by the similar Asp viper, which is overall slate red in colour. As with most snakes , these species will flee rather than face an attacker. Bites usually only occur in the summer as they hibernate in the winter. It will only bite if molested or if it feels threatened. If you are bitten, above all remain calm it is unlikely to kill you unless you are very young. The fangs produce two puncture marks between 6 and 10mm long, followed by immediate pain and inflamation. The venom is both neurotoxic and haemotoxic, so it affects both the nervous system and blood. Symptoms may include vomiting, sweating, headache, athralgia, abdominal pain and shock. Others include intense thirst, necrosis of the skin around the wound and in very rare cases neurological depression which can lead to organ failure or coma. The venom can be fatal, especially for infants. The victim should be immobilised to rest and remain calm, keep the wound lower than the heart if possible. Call for medical assistance giving a clear description of the snake. Lataste’s viper is a terrestrial, venomous and, occasionally, cannibalistic snake. Characterized by a pointed, up-turned snout, this small species, like most vipers, has a triangular head and two apical pits (very small pits on the surface of the scales) . It has a variable body colouration, ranging from grey to dark brown, and a darker zig-zag pattern adorns the upperside, acting as a warning signal to avian predators that this species is venomous. A set of dark spots are also visible on the sides of the body. This viper occurs in scattered populations spread across the Iberian Peninsula (Portugal and Spain), Morocco and Algeria. The range also once extended into Tunisia but these localized populations are now possibly extinct Lataste’s viper typically favours stony or rocky areas with scattered vegetation, such as woodland or dry scrubland, and may also be found in coastal dunes

Biology Thought to be an ambush predator, Lataste’s viper employs a ‘sit-and-wait’ strategy to capture prey . Its diet comprises mainly reptiles and small mammals, although other types of prey, including insects, spiders, amphibians and birds. The diet varies according to season and age, and may even result in occasional cannibalism during periods of low prey densities. Despite its small size, Lataste’s viper is considered to be one of the most aggressively defensive of all Vipera species; if threatened, it will strike repeatedly while producing a loud hiss. Lataste’s viper is a viviparous snake, meaning females give birth to live young that have developed within the body, with each female reproducing every three years on average. In the Iberian Peninsula, mating was observed between autumn and spring, while in Morocco it was recorded in April and May, with a possible second mating season in autumn. The average litter size ranged from two to thirteen individuals Threats The main threats to Lataste’s viper include persecution from humans and the loss and degradation of suitable habitat, through urbanization, agriculture, and forest fires. As a result, this species has declined in many parts of the Iberian Peninsula, particularly in the lowlands. Unfortunately, certain biological traits of this viper, such as a small home range (the area occupied by an animal during routine activities, which is not actively defended), size and a low dispersal rate, make it particularly poor at adapting to habitat alteration and at colonizing nearby suitable habitats, thus making it more vulnerable to extinction Conservation The species is protected in Europe under Appendix II of the Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats (also known as the Bern Convention). It is also afforded protection by its presence in the Peneda-Gerês National Park in northern Portugal and in a number of other protected areas across Spain and Morocco.

Monaco-29 May 2011 Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel rode his luck for all it was worth in Monaco. He got the pole, then had it inadvertently safeguarded after Sergio Perez’s accident. Then on Sunday, just as he was under massive pressure on worn tyres from Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso and McLaren’s Jenson Button, a nail-biting race was brought to a temporary halt when Toro Rosso’s Jaime Alguersuari crashed in heavy traffic, taking out Renault’s Vitaly Petrov in the process. The incident happened as the leaders were threading their way through the backmarkers, but the race was soon suspended as it became apparent that the Russian had momentarily been knocked unconscious and needed medical assistance. He complained of pain in his left ankle at the accident scene, but further examination and a full body scan confirmed that there was no broken bones . When the race resumed for its final six laps, at 16.04, everyone had fitted the freshest tyres they could muster and McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton’s rear wing had been repaired after it had been savaged in the Alguersuari incident. Vettel, back on much-needed fresh rubber, won easily from Alonso and Button. Montreal-12 Jun 2011 Jenson Button made sensational amends to McLaren, having inadvertently taken team mate Lewis Hamilton out of a chaotic Canadian Grand Prix on the eighth lap on Sunday, by snatching victory from Sebastian Vettel halfway round the final lap. The disjointed race began behind the safety car due to heavy rain, started to dry, then got much worse as the rain returned and refused to abate. Things went bad for McLaren by the second corner as Hamilton tapped Mark Webber into a spin and attracted the attention of the stewards yet again. But that was nothing compared to the bad news that lay ahead for McLaren… Vettel led easily from the Ferraris, with the McLarens chasing the Mercedes. Hamilton passed Button but dropped behind him on the sixth lap as an overtaking move on Schumacher failed to come off at the hairpin. Hamilton pulled out to pass Button, but as the latter moved to the left they made contact and Hamilton hit the pit wall. Out came the safety car again. Then came more bad news for McLaren, as Button got a drive-through penalty for going too fast behind the original safety car. He served that, then dived in for intermediate Pirellis and was for a while the fastest man on the track. Alonso did likewise, but they were just moving up the order when the rain came back. Before long the race was red flagged as conditions became impossible. They restarted two hours and five minutes later when the rain finally eased. The race resumed for its final sector on the 61st lap, now with DRS enabled by the FIA. Schumacher came under intense pressure from Webber and Button. The Englishman soon disposed of them both and set off after Vettel, slashing down a 3.1s advantage until the German made a crucial mistake on the final lap as he slid wide on a wet patch and surrendered the lead. Button’s redemption was complete. Valencia- 26 Jun 2011 Sebastian Vettel scored his sixth victory of the season in Valencia, without anyone getting anywhere close to his Red Bull. Ferrari's Fernando Alonso battled with Mark Webber, however, and ultimately prevailed as the Australian's RB7 misbehaved in the closing stages and prevented him attempting to regain the second place he had held on two occasions. Lewis Hamilton was 46.1s behind Vettel on a day when McLaren lacked pace, heading home Massa's Ferrari and team mate Jenson Button. The Alonso/Webber fight was the main focal interest at the front as Vettel simply ran off and hid. Webber held it, under pressure, from Lap One to 20, but then Alonso overtook after exploiting his DRS going into Turn 12. The Spaniard then stayed there until his second pit stop on Lap 29, whereupon Webber went back in front having stopped a lap sooner. His third and final stop on Lap 42 promoted Alonso again, and as Webber had run wide going into the pits and lost crucial time, the Ferrari driver was able to stop on Lap 45 and then stay ahead. Webber then fell away quite dramatically, as his car developed a gearbox problem. He was so far ahead of Hamilton, however, that his podium place was never in doubt.

'Economic Stimulus' payment. Sometime this year, we taxpayers will again receive another 'Economic Stimulus' payment. This is indeed a very exciting program, and I'll explain it by using a Q & A format: Q. What is an 'Economic Stimulus' payment ? A. It is money that the government will send to taxpayers. Q.. Where will the government get this money ? A. From taxpayers. Q. So the government is giving me back my own money ? A. Only a smidgen of it. Q. What is the purpose of this payment ? A. The plan is for you to use the money to purchase a high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy. Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China ? A. Shut up. Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the U.K. economy by spending your stimulus cheque wisely:

* If you spend the stimulus money at Asda or Tesco, the money will go to China , Taiwan or Sri Lanka .. * If you spend it on petrol, your money will go to the Arabs. * If you purchase a computer, it will go to India , Taiwan or China .. * If you purchase fruit and vegetables, it will go to Mexico , Honduras and Guatemala .. * If you buy an efficient car, it will go to Japan or Korea .. * If you purchase useless stuff, it will go to Taiwan * If you pay your credit cards off, or buy shares, it will go to management bonuses and they will hide it offshore. Instead, keep the money in the UK by: 1) Spending it at car boot sales, or 2) Going to night clubs, or 3) Spending it on prostitutes, or 4) Beer or whisky or 5) Tattoos. (These are the only UK businesses still operating in the U.K. )

Conclusion: be patriotic - go to a night club with a tattooed prostitute that you met at a car boot sale and drink beer day and night ! No need to thank me, I'm just glad I could help. Alert states to terrorist threats in 2011 Europe: The French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from "Run" to "Hide." The only two higher levels in France are "Collaborate" and "Surrender." The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France 's white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country's military capability. The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent events in Libya and have therefore raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved." Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross." The English have not been "A Bit Cross" since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out. Terrorists have been re-categorized from "Tiresome" to "A Bloody Nuisance." The last time the British issued a "Bloody Nuisance" warning level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada. The Scots have raised their threat level from "Pissed Off" to "Let's get the Bastards." They don't have any other levels. This is the reason they have been used on the front line of the British army for

the last 300 years. Italy has increased the alert level from "Shout Loudly and Excitedly" to "Elaborate Military Posturing." Two more levels remain: "Ineffective Combat Operations" and "Change Sides." The Germans have increased their alert state from "Disdainful Arrogance" to "Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs.." They also have two higher levels: "Invade a Neighbour" and "Lose." Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual; the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels . The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy. Australia , meanwhile, has raised its security level from "No worries" to "She'll be alright, Mate." Two more escalation levels remain: "Crikey! I think we'll need to cancel the barbie this weekend!" and "The barbie is canceled." So far no situation has ever warranted use of the final escalation level.
