SCC GOLF SECTION CHRISTMAS GAME AND DINNER The last golf game of the year had a wonderful turnout of 13 flights (unlucky for some but, evidently, lucky for SCC members!) and 52 Members and guests. The game was played on Tuesday, 10 Dec 2019, at Orchid Country Club (OCC) which is known to be a ‘forgiving course’, as its wideopen spaces allowed for good recovery from wayward drives from the tee-box! I suspect our Convenor (Bala) and Captain (Alvin Khoo) chose this course so that all our golfing members will have ‘decent’ scores and therefore end the year on a happy note! The post-game dinner was held at the Himawari Japanese restaurant which was at the OCC Driving Range next to the main clubhouse. The prizes for the winners were given out at the start of the dinner and the following were the top three players at the game: • First Prize: Dennis Tan (SCC Guest): 49 stableford points • Second Prize: Ravi Chandran (SCC Member): 43 stableford points • Third Prize: Denny Siow (SCC Member): 41 stableford points Coincidentally, the winner was the owner of the Himawari Japanese restaurant. The dinner was well appreciated by the Golf Section Members and a big thanks to our committee member, Richard Loo, for organising the dinner at Himawari. The grand Christmas dinner was held at the Padang Restaurant on Saturday, 14 Dec 2019, with 70 pax. The evening was ‘tee-ed off’ with a cocktail reception at the Padang Landing with beer, bottles of white, red and sparkling wine, as well as copious amounts of whisky (as is the tradition of our Section). This ensured that everyone attending was in a ‘jolly’ state before the commencement of speeches and dinner!

THE PADANG JAN / FEB 2020

Last Golf game of the year and post-game dinner at Orchid Country Club.

Our Convenor Bala gave a short and sharp speech and urged all Members and guests to have a good evening and enjoy the festive cheer. The 5-piece band (The Rangers), supported by an excellent female lead singer, sang and played harmoniously all evening. SCC President Sher Baljit Singh graced the dinner and helped give away the lucky draw prizes sponsored by Section Members. The SCC Golf Section ended the calendar year literally with a ‘BANG’ with Christmas crackers being popped at the end of the Christmas Dinner evening’s proceedings, but not before ‘Father Christmas’ (Cosmas Emerold Joosa) came out in Santa Claus costume, cheered everyone up and greeted them affectionately with warm hugs!
