Greetings from Carrollwood Country Club. As we move through the hot and mostly wet summer months of Florida, we have taken advantage of this slower time of year by accomplishing our regularly scheduled preventative maintenance programs. As many of you are aware we have completed our first round of aerification to the tees, fairways, rough and putting surfaces of all three nines of our golf course. Although it is a golfing inconvenience, it allows us to maintain nice playing conditions throughout the remaining months or the year. In addition, we continue to receive new Golf Course Maintenance equipment as our current equipment leases expire and new ones are created for new equipment. We are committed to maintaining a high level of golf course conditions and this is just one of the many ways to make sure that happens. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce to you our new Executive Chef Jorge Quevedo. Jorge was recently promoted to our Executive Chef position and previously held the position of Sous Chef at Carrollwood Country Club. Please join me in congratulating Chef Jorge when you see him at the club. Just a reminder to our membership, please don’t forget you can view and print your monthly member statement on our website under the Member only section. Go Green……if you are getting your member statement through the regular mail please know we could email it to you. If you need help with either of these please call Kathy or Patty in our Carrollwood Accounting Department at 813-961-1381. One of our favorite club events, the annual Independence Day Celebration is upon us. This event has always been a very well attended annual club event enjoyed by all. We have continued to see attendance increase year over year, and with weather permitting, this year should be a successful one also. All of us at Carrollwood Country Club work very hard and devote a lot of time to prepare for this event. It is our hope that you continue to attend and enjoy our Independence Day Celebration. The 2017 year continues to be another very good year for Carrollwood Country Club. As I state in every newsletter article that I write, our success relies on the support of the members of the country club. I would like to thank you for your support and we will continue to invest in our facility and work hard at maintaining a first - class county club. I look forward to seeing you at the club.

Greetings and Happy Summer to All CCC Members, I believe you will be receiving this newsletter directly after our biggest event of the year, our Independence Day Celebration. We had just over 3,000 in attendance last year and can only think there will be more in attendance this year, for it has become quite the event in the Carrollwood Community and even beyond. I hope all members who attended, enjoyed and are proud to show the Bay Area our beautiful club on this special occasion. I can hardly believe July is already here, how time has flown and it looks like we are going to have a hotter than usual Summer, so get your suits out and enjoy that beautiful pool of ours. The kids are out of school and full of energy so don’t forget we have summer camps available. Stroke Camp is our step between Swim Lessons and Swim Team so whether they are just getting started or they are ready to join the swim team get them out there and enjoying the summer. We also have Tennis Camps available and Private Tennis Lessons with Chris Cary and team. There is much to do here at CCC to keep them doing something healthy and entertained for their summer break and we “Thank You” for allowing them to share it with us. As far as membership, well it’s booming at the moment, for the months of May and June we’ve had a total of 21 new members, 11 new golf memberships and 10 new Social memberships. A lot of our new members at times, are completely new to the Bay Area and looking to make new acquaintances, so if you happen to run into any new members please introduce yourself and make them feel at home. We would hope that CCC becomes everyone’s home away from home, where you come to relax, socialize and enjoy the friendships you’ve made along the way and if there is anything I can do to help facilitate that please feel free to contact me. Also I’d love to share the newest promotion we have going on for those of you who have friends, family or co-workers asking:
25% Off of the Onetime Initiation fee for Full or Jr. Executive Golf Membership, also includes, (3) free cart fees a month for (6) months and their first month of dues complimentary For Tennis or Social Memberships they receive 25% off of the onetime initiation fee and their first month of dues complimentary And not to forget our Member Referral Program. From the Golf Shop BY SHAWN GORDON, DIRECTOR OF GOLF
Dear Carrollwood Members, Wow, this year is flying by. Hard to believe it’s already July. As most of you know we are in the aerification season and things are progressing nicely. We are trying our best to provide as little impact on your play as possible. However, during this period it is imperative that you call the golf shop and get your tee times as we are limited during this process. The impact will decrease as we move thru summer as the process also changes moving forward. I would like to thank you for your understanding during this time. Our summer Jr Golf Camps are in full swing with camps available for all levels of golfer. Our Beginners Golf Camps are instructed by Hannah Espy, Assistant Golf Professional and run Tuesday thru Friday from 9:00 am to 11:30 am. These camps cover the basic fundamentals of golf and prepare kids to start playing golf. If you have any questions or would like to sign up for one of these camps please call the golf shop at (813) 961-1369. For our advanced Jr golfers (Jr golfer has been playing for two or more years) we offer an advanced camp taught by Michael Fream, PGA First Assistant Golf Professional. These camps also run Tuesday thru Friday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm with lunch included. These camps cover full swing and short game instruction as well as on course instruction each day. If you have any questions or would like to sign up for one of these camps please call the golf shop at (813) 961-1369. Our Women’s Golf Association has just concluded another fun, competitive season. Our women still play on Thursday and Saturdays and are always looking for new players. If you have any interest in playing with our women or more information about the WGA please contact the golf shop and we will direct you thru the process. Our Men’s Golf Association is in full swing as we just completed our sixth event “Tough Day” in June. Our points race is tight with one more event before determining our Concert Cup Team which will represent the club in August at MacGregor Downs, NC. Our next event is the “Red, White and Blue Tee Tournament on July 15th. Signup sheet is available in the golf shop for this event. If you would like more information on how to join the MGA and participate in these events please call the golf shop. We also have several men’s games throughout the week. On Tuesday’s we have an 8:00 and 12:00 “Skins Game”. (Same game, different tee time blocks) On Thursdays we have the “Thursday Night Shootout”. This is a nine hole quota game that starts at 5:30 pm and runs thru the end of September. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays we have a quota game. From the Golf Course Superintendent The maintenance staff has just completed our first greens core aerification. Our next scheduled aerification has been changed from June 19th to June 26th due to the poor weather we experienced in the first half of June. We will be using smaller tines and disruption to the greens surface will not be as aggressive as our first aerification process. We understand this process is disruptive to the putting surface but it is a necessary practice. The aerification holes help water, air and nutrients to penetrate the putting surface as well as relieving compaction. As we move further into the summer months and the rainy season I would like to thank you in advance for your understanding when we must restrict the carts to paths due to the wet conditions. This is a necessary measure to help
ensure the best playing conditions possible. When the ground is saturated from rains and carts are driven across it the soil becomes compacted. This compaction leads to poor root development which leads to poor turf. We will lift the restrictions as soon as we can. As always, the staff and I appreciate your efforts in helping to take care of the course by filling your divots and repairing your ball marks. If you should have any questions or comments concerning the golf courses, my office door is always open. See you on the course.

League Tennis News & Other Happenings BY NOLA SMITH, TENNIS REPRESENTATIVE July & August – two of the hottest months of the year, League play is over until August/September, so it is time to have some family time, including the wonderful game of tennis, practice your strokes, take some lessons from two of the best teachers around the tri-county area – Tennis Director Chris Cary, and Teaching Pro Gyorgyi Zsiros. The word of the month(s) is HYDRATE!!
busy fine tuning their skills, giving credit to our teaching pros, with doubles strategies and other necessary information. They are almost half way through their ladder challenges, are fortunate to have many veterans who have a long tenure with the team, and are pleased to blend in some “new duos”. Here’s to a successful 2017-2018 season.
To finish up our league reports, our 3.0 Ladies USTA Carrollwood Classics 40 & over team, finished 5th, but had a great time, and according to our outgoing Captain Beata Abbs, they have a robust group of ladies, who are actively practicing on Mondays and Wednesdays. If anyone is interested in captaining this “classic” group of ladies, please contact Chris Cary.
The Thursday night 3.5 Ladies USTA, known as the C5’s had their best season ever this spring, tying for third place. The team spirit award, according to captain Kristine Glein, goes to Bruni Blanco, for always being willing to play or just be on the sidelines cheering her teammates on. Don’t forget the “perk” playing on this team offers – adult beverages once the matches are complete – a big thanks to the Oasis Grille for staying open.
Terrific Tuesday Tennis – our Suncoast League, has round robins scheduled every Tuesday for two hours. If interested in participating in these practices, please contact Chris and he will direct you to the appropriate people. Our overall Suncoast luncheon, held at our Club in May, was a huge success (205 people attending). We are currently in the middle of Intra-team challenges, and league play will begin in September, with 14 strong doubles teams ready to do battle against 12 other clubs. Of special note – Heidi Linville did not miss a match the entire 2016/2017 Suncoast season – Fall & Spring – that’s a total of 24 matches!! Also, we welcome new teammates Mo Alten and Maggie Symulevich to our Suncoast team! Two leagues on Wednesday – our ALOT league, consisting of 5 doubles teams, are also in the middle of Intra-team challenges. They welcome new teammates Sharyn Brookins and Lorraine Strobridge to the team. Additionally, we have our Interbay team, consisting of 7 doubles team, now known as Winners on Wednesdays! New captains, Trish Nellis & Terry Rizzo report that they are
Friday’s 4.0 USTA Ladies team – the Net Ninjas, had many competitive matches; the star of this team – Heidi Linville. Heidi played in every match in this league as well, and won 6 out of 7 of her singles matches – WOW! An end-of-season party was hosted at Kristine’s home, where she reminded the teams that they will continue Thursday night practices at 7:00 pm. Please feel free to join the fun. Our Men’s League finished up their 4.0 season, and Tennis Director Chris Cary says “hats off to Dick Woltmann” for his stellar play! The men practice every Wednesday night, if interested in having some good strong tennis, making tennis your “sport for a lifetime” The Morning Star tournament was a huge success, with over 120 players participating, and they celebrated their 30th year right here at CCC. As always, good tennis everyone! Nola
