Hello Carrollwood Members! As we come to an end of yet another successful winter season I would like to thank you, our membership, for your continued support of our programs, events, and staff at Carrollwood Country Club. What made our winter season a success is your involvement in each event that we offered. Our Member appreciation party in January, and our Super Bowl Party and Valentines’ Day Dinner in February were very successful. The annual Tennis event, The Derby, which is held in February was a big success. Once again, this year both our Men’s and Ladies Member Guest golf events were highly attended and successful. Finally, the Easter Brunch and Egg Hunt was our largest ever at Carrollwood hosting 790 members and guests on Easter Sunday. Thank you again for making our Winter events a huge success! Our golf course conditions have been very good over the Winter season. I appreciate all the positive comments from the membership on how well the course conditions have been and continue to be. We recently received delivery of three new Toro greens mowers which will greatly assist Chuck Cakmakci and his crew at maintaining excellent putting conditions at the country club. Please pay close attention to the department articles within this months’ newsletter. We have multiple youth programs and camps offered in Golf, Tennis, and Swimming throughout the summer months. As a reminder to our golf members, the 2017 Men’s Concert Cup golf event will be hosted by Macgregor Downs Country Club located in Cary North Carolina. The event is scheduled for August 24 - 26, 2017. Our Men’s Golf Association top 4 point winners will make up our team representing Carrollwood Country Club and traveling to Macgregor Downs. I would like to take this opportunity to remind you as a Carrollwood member you have member privileges at currently 13 other Concert Golf owned country clubs that are located around the United States. When planning a summer vacation this year give us a call and check to see if there is a Concert Golf Partners club nearby your vacation destination. We have clubs located in Arizona, Georgia, Maryland, Kansas, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Oklahoma, Massachusetts, and 3 in the state of Florida other than Carrollwood. As always, we will continue to strive for excellence at Carrollwood Country Club and I look forward to seeing you at the club.

Hello My Lovely CCC Members, Spring has sprung and Summer is here. I hope everyone got out and enjoyed the wonderful weather we were blessed with the past two months because now it’s just hot, so get out there and make good use of that beautiful Jr. size Olympic Pool. We’ve had some wonderful events the past couple of months. Our Men’s Member Guest was fantastic as usual, Shawn and his team did a great job along with food and beverage. Our Women’s Member Guest was also great this year, I absolutely loved the décor ladies, you always knock it out of the park and our Easter Brunch was beautiful with close to 800 in attendance, a record high this year, so for all who attended I hope everyone enjoyed. In speaking with a lot of you I frequently am asked about our membership, how were doing, how many members do we have etc. so I would like to take a moment and share with you just how well we are doing. Our total membership count is over 1,077 memberships. We have 435 Golf memberships, which includes our Junior memberships, 506 Social memberships and 136 Tennis memberships. Please keep in mind, we are the only club in the area who even offers a Junior program, so kudos to us. As of January, 1st 2017 we have added 51 new memberships to Carrollwood Country Club. The word is out folks, we have a great club and a wonderful golf course. With 27 holes to choose from our pace of play is always good and there is no danger of overcrowding. We are lucky people to have the course and club that we do, so if you see Mr. Chuck Cakmakci give him a handshake. He truly is fantastic at what he does and continues to make Carrollwood Country Club the place to be. As you all know we are gearing up for CCC’s biggest event of the year, our Annual Independence Day Celebration. For all of you who have attended in the past you know what a fun day this is, so be sure to bring a friend and show them what it’s like to be a CCC Member and if by chance they have questions about membership you know who to send them to. Keep in mind CCC’s Referral Program, if you refer a potential member and they join, you will receive one month equal their dues, so spread the word. I am always grateful for your referrals and truly appreciate the help you give in growing our membership. Our current promotion if you have friends or family with interest is the following:
25% off the Initiation Fee for a Full Golf or Jr. Executive Golf Membership and they also receive their first 2 months of dues complimentary Social & Tennis Memberships receive 25% off the Initiation Fee and 1 month of complimentary dues
This promotion is only for the next 10 members who join then subject to change I look forward to seeing all of you around the club and please never hesitate to stop by and say “Hello” or reach out with any questions or concerns. Have a Safe and Fun Summer.

Still living in the past thinking about your top down on the old Cadillac and beach boys playing from your 8-track tape? The 50’s Sock Hop and Classic Car Show is back June 9th from 7 to 10 pm. You can come see some old classic cars and visit the malt shop. Best dressed 50’s attire and Hula Hoop Contests so dig into your closet and grab your leather jackets and poodle skirts as we want to see you there. Many Americans celebrate Armed Forces Day annually on the third Saturday of May which this year is May 20th. It is a day to pay tribute to men and women who serve the United States’ armed forces. Armed Forces Day is also part of Armed Forces Week, which is very special to me as I am a former Navy vet. In honor of this day I would like to extend a complimentary meal to any armed forces personnel. Thank you for your service. And finally, with the 4th of July falling on a Monday this year, staying with tradition, we host our Independence Day Celebration on the Saturday before. This year, the showcase event of the Club will fall on July 2nd. We plan on going even bigger this year with more activities for the kids, more bars, more food vendors and my favorite new addition, a zip line from the tee box of Cypress 1 to the end of the fairway. You will zip over all the people just like you would see in Vegas. Bang, Boom, Pop!

From the Golf Shop BY SHAWN GORDON, DIRECTOR OF GOLF
Dear Carrollwood Members, Summer is here. Didn’t take long for the heat to amp up. The start of the year has been exceptional and we are looking forward to an awesome summer. As most of you know with summer comes golf course maintenance aerification. Our process will be a little different this year as we will open the courses earlier than past years. I would like to thank all of you for your patience and understanding during this time as it is a necessary practice to ensure quality golf all year round. With summer comes Junior Golf camps and we have camps for all levels, from beginner to advanced competitive players. Our Introductory Camps conducted by Hannah Espy include the fundamentals of the golf grip, alignment and set up to full swing and short game. The camps are limited to 12 juniors per camp. We also have advanced Junior Golf Camps available. These camps are for juniors who have been playing golf for two or more years or playing competitive golf. The camps run most of the day and include instruction on the full swing, short game as well as on course instruction and includes lunch. All dates, times and information are provided on the camp flyers in this newsletter. If you are interested in any of our camps or need more information please feel free to contact us in the golf shop. In the golf shop, we are receiving new merchandise daily to include some of the latest in heat gear from Under Armor and Adidas. Our sale rack is loaded with men’s and Ladies Carrollwood logoed apparel marked down to rock bottom prices. Our Women’s Golf Association just completed their annual Member/ Guest event. Kudos to all the women involved in making this year’s event a great success. Our women play every Thursday and Saturday throughout the year. If you are interested in information or to play with our women’s group, call us in the golf shop and we will assist you in getting started. Our Men’s Golf Association is also off to a great start with their first major of the year. Match Play is currently under way and is down to the final four. We also just completed our annual Member/Guest and it was a great weekend. I would like to thank our members for their participation because without you we could not have had such a successful event. Our MGA points list will be updated and posted following the Member/Guest event. Please remember that our top 4 on this list will represent us in North Carolina this year in the 3rd Annual Concert Cup hosted by Mac Gregor Downs. The final point standing will be totaled after the July MGA event to determine our 4 representatives. The schedule for the remainder of the year is as follows: •
May 20th 8:30 shotgun 2-Man team
•
June 10th 8:30 shotgun Tough Day
•
July 15th 8:30 shotgun Red, White & Blue
•
October 21st & 22nd 8:30 shotgun Member-Member
•
November 18th & 19th 8:30 shotgun Club Championship
•
December 9th 8:30 shotgun MGA Finale
If you are interested in participating in the MGA please contact the golf shop. On the golf course, we have added a blue line in the approach of the greens. This line is the indicator as to where we would like to see the carts go to the cart path so that we can keep the areas surrounding the greens in great shape. As of May 1st, the hazards to the right of holes #3 and #4 of the Pine nine will be played as environmentally protected areas recommended by the EPA. What does this mean for you? This means you will still play the area as a hazard but will NOT be able to go into the hazard and hit your shot. You must take relief outside the hazard. If you have any questions regarding this change please stop by the golf shop and we can discuss. Just a couple reminders in closing. With the heat coming fast please remember to make your tee times as the early times are limited. The summer golf shop and range hours are as follows: Golf shop is open Tuesday thru Friday from 7 am to 6 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 6:30 am to 6 pm. The driving range hours are 7:30 am to sunset each day. I would like to thank our members for their continued support of Carrollwood Country Club. As always “When its breezy, swing easy and good golfing”. See you around the club. Sincerely, Shawn Gordon, PGA Director of Golf

From the Golf Course Superintendent As summer time approaches here at Carrollwood I would like to thank my staff for their hard work and dedication that has enabled us to enjoy very good playing conditions throughout the winter months. I would also like to thank our golfing membership for their support. We appreciate the feedback. Unfortunately, we are coming to the time of the year when we must core aerify the greens. This is unfortunately necessary to keep our greens to the quality and speeds that we have come to expect here at Carrollwood. Our first aerification is scheduled to take place on the Cypress course on May 8th. The Cypress course will then reopen on May 10th for play. Two weeks later we will aerify the Pine Course on May 22nd and 23rd reopening on the 24th of May for play. We will be following this two week rotation between the three nines throughout the summer until all greens have been aerified three times. During this time, we will also be aerifying the roughs, tees and fairways. You may have recently noticed our three new greens mowers on the golf course. We took delivery of these pieces of equipment
in April and are very pleased with the quality of cut that we are seeing. In June, we are scheduled to take delivery of additional golf course equipment, replacing aged equipment that was inherited from previous owners of Carrollwood Country Club. We will be getting 4 new utility vehicles, a new rough mower and a new sand trap rake. I am very much so looking forward to June. As many of you have noticed we have dropped the height of cut on the rough to 1.25 inches. Although there was some minor scalping in the rough, this is a normal practice that we perform every year. We will maintain this height of cut throughout the summer months, weather permitting. The staff and I appreciate your efforts in practicing great golf course etiquette on the course.

8 Year Old Sophie Nichols Leads CVST to Great Boys & Girls Club Nationals
CVST had a great Boy & Girls Club National Swimming Championships, April 7-9, in St. Petersburg, where they were led by 8 year old Sophie "That Girl" Nichols and her 5th Place Overall High Point finish in the 8&Under Girls Age Group. Sophie also picked up 8 Individual medals and 2 Relay medals for her efforts in the 25, 50 & 100 Freestyles, 25 Backstroke, 25 & 50 Breaststroke, 50 Butterfly and 100 IM, not to mention the 100 Freestyle and 100 Medley Relays. Not a bad haul of hardware for one National Championship weekend. Also shining over the weekend was CVST’s Two-Time National Champion, Sophie “Bubbles” Hasara. Hasara picked up Gold Medals in the 500 & 1650 Freestyles in the 13-14 Girls Age Group, CVST’s only two golds of the meet. Her time in the 1650 Freestyle would have also won the event in the Senior Girls Age Group.

League Tennis News & Other Happenings BY NOLA SMITH, TENNIS REPRESENTATIVE We begin with our Spring 3.0 USTA 40 & over League….now officially known as the Carrollwood Classics. They are three matches into their season and are currently in 5th place. Captain Beata Abbs states “we are sailing along just fine, our goal is to win a few more matches”….with this group of up and coming players, this will happen before the season ends I’m sure. Our Tuesday Suncoast League (the 3T’s – Terrific Tuesday Tennis) has now ended. We did exceptionally well this season compared to past seasons, and it is thanks to an exceptional group of teammates. Our 14 doubles teams won 1,650 games this year – pretty impressive and ended up overall in 8th place (out of 13 clubs) …that’s how strong this League is! On May 2nd, we are hosting a year-end luncheon for the entire Suncost League – approximately 200 + usually attend. Chairperson Mary Klein, our leader, has included all of our teammates and some subs to volunteer to make this the best luncheon ever. This league has been around for 45 years, so our theme….Cheers to 45 Years! Pictures in the next newsletter. Wednesday – two leagues - our WOW’s – Women of Wednesday league (Interbay) … they are currently finishing in the middle of the pack this season. They survived a number of injuries and surgeries this year, so a huge thank you to their subs. They look forward to the off season to work on their game, with the Fall season starting in the heat of the summer (!) – in Mid August. New captains this year are Terry Rizzo and Trish Nellis. The A LOT league’s season ends in April, so by the time you see this article, they will have finished in 6th place. The second half of their season was riddled with illness and injuries, causing them to use subs over a third of the time – Captain Gail Gibson is so thankful for the subs that helped them throughout the season.
Our Thursday night 3.5 USTA ladies C5’s are off to a tremendous start – early in the season but already 2 & 0, beating two of the toughest teams on their schedule. They are very optimistic about finishing in the top 3 this season. The 4.0 USTA Friday morning league – the Net Ninjas – have been taking their matches to 3 sets so a team win is eminent. They are looking forward to a fun, competitive season. They’re baaaack! Our Men’s 4.0 USTA team has begun play on League Tennis Birthday Luncheon Celebration. Saturday mornings. Having just started, no standings to report, but please contact Chris Cary if interested in playing on our Men’s team … Other Happenings …. The Morning Star Tournament, one of the most popular tournaments in our area, is being held right here at CCC on May 5th, 6th & 7th ….their 30th year! Please come support this tournament – play or watch!! As always, good tennis everyone.
