A Note from Kellie

Dear Members & Families, I would like to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you to all the members of this great Club for allowing me to be General Manager for the past ten years. We’ve been through a lot of ups and downs and have watched Kensington become a genuine, highly regarded Club in the Naples Community. I’d further like to thank the staff team for all of their hard work and dedication. They always made me look good and I know you are proud of them as well! As my family and I move on to the next chapter in our lives, I know the “Kensington Spirit” will always hold a special place in our hearts! Kind regards, Robert P. Crissman General Manager

Food & Beverage

It is incredible that the season is upon us once again! The summer at Kensington was fantastic and quite successful. There will be a few changes happening this season within the Food & Beverage Program. As many of you have experienced firsthand, the Chelsea Lounge is often standing room only shortly after opening because of our awesome bar menu and the demand for casual dining. Beginning October 1, 2015, we will also open the Mayfair Grill for casual dinner service every Tuesday and Friday evening. In addition, we will be accepting reservations for tables in the Mayfair Grill for both the bar and dining room menus. The Chelsea Lounge will remain a first come, first serve basis only. There are, of course, exceptions to some Friday evenings, due to special themed member events, so please watch your calendar as

you plan out your nights. The other exciting news is that the Club will be launching an automated dining and event reservation system this fall. It will be similar to the automated tee-time reservation system. We are thrilled about providing this efficiency for the membership. Within this Kronicle issue (page10), I have outlined the Grape Expectations program for the coming season. If you are not familiar with this, Grape Expectations is Kensington’s very own wine club. The offering has improved and I am excited to help host the numerous tastings and wine dinners. Please contact me with any questions you have. I look forward to a great 2015/16 season. Kind regards,

Culinary Corner

Welcome back to all who were away from Naples this summer. As you get settled into the Kensington life again, I want to remind you all that we are here for you. As we roll into my second season here at Kensington, we have some exciting things planned. Our new menus will start October 1st, so come up to the Club and try something new. For lunch, we will continue to have the “Play and Stay” Special of the day, which includes a soda, draft beer, house wine, or well drink. For those members who were looking for cooking classes last year, we have 4 scheduled for this season. They will be held on Saturdays and will cost $20, which includes the recipes, a glass of wine, lunch, Q&A, and front row seats to the demonstrations. These classes will be fun for ladies and gentlemen, the novice cook, and the gourmands of Kensington. Class size is limited, so please make your reservation early. Guests are welcome too. As we get closer to the classes, there will be an opportunity to purchase professional Chef knives. Stay tuned for more details. (See my advert to the right of my article). As we continue to improve the Food & Beverage program, please remember that we are doing our very best to make sure everyone enjoys their dining experience. Don’t forget that we offer a knife sharpening service to our members, so if you’re in need of an edge, please drop off your knives and allow 2 days for this service. Also, if you need any culinary tips, please feel free to give me a call. Thank you for your continued support as we make our culinary program the very best. I look forward to seeing you around Kensington. Culinary regards,

M i s s y ’s S c o r e c a r d

The 2015-2016 season is almost here! All new items will be arriving in your golf shop at the end of September. To start off with your equipment needs, we will have FootJoy, Ecco, and New Balance golf shoes available to get your feet ready for the links. Then, we will have Sun Mountain, Burton, and LoudMouth golf bags to get us started in the golf bag area. Remember, we can customize your golf bag with the Kensington logo, your company logo, your name, and/or monogram. We can also match your bag to your headcover preference. Men will find a great assortment of Peter Millar, Ralph Lauren Polo, Donald Ross, and FootJoy golf apparel, along with Fairway and Green, Zero, Cutter and Buck, and UnderArmour. For the Ladies, we will have an impressive line-up for you too, with the likes of Peter Millar, GG Blue, Cutter and Buck, Tail, Daily, and Jamie Sadock. We are hosting a JoFit trunk show in early November and Tail will be bringing their 5 different fit models of in-stock bottoms ranging from skorts and shorts to pants to try on so you can find that perfect fit! Be on the lookout for the dates of our “Holiday Sale” coming up in November. It’s a great time to buy and get your gifts wrapped and ready to ship up north or to be put away for the festive season. We are looking forward to seeing you back at Kensington. Let me know if there is anything you need us to put aside for you before you join us back in Paradise. See you soon,

From the Rough Staff Change - In June, we said goodbye to Eric Oster as our Assistant Superintendent, as he took the next big step in his career and became the Golf Course Superintendent at Coral Oaks Golf Club in Cape Coral. We wish him the best of luck in his new endeavor. We filled his position with our current 2nd Assistant/ Irrigation Technician, Evins “Mac” McCord. Mac has worked at Kensington since 1997 as an Intern through a 1st Assistant before leaving to work at a couple other area courses. He returned in 2011 as our 2nd Assistant and now will once again take over as our 1st Assistant. Mac has an incredible work ethic and will no doubt ease the transition for all involved. Weather - We have experienced a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde type of weather pattern so far this summer. Our overall rainfall is around average at 41.6 inches over 59 rain events/days. The pattern we have experienced much of this summer is 7-10 days of heavy rainfall, followed by 7-10 days of no rainfall. In comparison to last summer - when it seemed as if it rained only at night - our current roller coaster of rainfall events has kept us busy. From repairing bunkers one week to hand watering dry spots the next, we certainly have not had a “normal” routine. Regardless, the golf course has been in great shape and getting a lot of use. Lakes - Although this is a KPMA project, the lake bank restoration has been proceeding regardless of some high water periods and the results are great. I only mention this because it not only improves the safety and function of the lakes, but also has improved the views from the golf course. The look of the lakes has also been improved by the abundance of desirable vegetation that is proliferating in the littoral zones and beyond. This summer we have observed a huge increase in the quantities and varieties of birds visiting our community. The vegetation provides habitat for the smaller fish and reptiles which increases the available food for the larger birds and animals. The vegetation is also acting as a filter for the water which improves the clarity of the lakes. For the birders out there, the new species we have observed this summer includes: Purple Gallinules, Wood Ducks with ducklings, Limpkins, and Black-Crowned and Yellow-Crowned Night-Herons. I hope everyone has enjoyed a great summer!

News

From the Fa i r way s With this issue spanning September to November, there is more information than usual. This is the “get ready” issue for our Fall/Winter season. So far, we have had a very active summer with rain, as always, but lots of member and reciprocal play, as well as great comments about our course. We were proud to host a portion of the Collier County Sheriff’s Summerfest Kids Program as well as the neighboring YMCA. Thanks to Kensington, a lot of kids were exposed to their first experience with golf, tennis and cooking, at a private country club. We know many of you have begun your fall/winter/ spring season planning, so to assist you, the 2015/2016 tournament schedules - Ladies’ 9 and 18 Hole, Men and Couples - have been posted on the website under the Golf dropdown. Please be mindful that our last aerification is scheduled Tuesday, September 8th through Tuesday, September 22nd. The Golf Shop hours of operation during aerification will be 7:30 am to 1:00 pm.

RECIPROCAL SEASON For those returning by the end of October, remember we are still in reciprocal season. This is important for two reasons: 1. There may be some courses that you may want to visit and since our course is so popular, you will be sharing your facilities with reciprocal guests. For starting times, your advantage is making a request for a time before the sheet is available to reciprocal clubs, which is four days out; please try and plan ahead. 2. Any reciprocal requests you may have, you can submit at any time to our Golf Shop. We, in turn, will call that club at their appropriate booking day - usually 2 to 4 days out. October becomes particularly challenging, but your Golf Staff is here to serve you first. HANDICAP AND SCORE POSTING I think we all will agree that our Handicap Committee performs an exemplary task of tracking and encouraging our members to properly post scores to establish legitimate handicaps. If your summer club is not on GHIN, please have your last 20 scores faxed or emailed

News

Golf

to golf@kensingtoncc.com as soon as possible. Please remember, the committee will be diligent to the following score posting review process: • A process of periodic review has been initiated for the purpose of identifying members who do not appear to post scores, either timely, accurately, or at all. (Non –posting) • Once a member is identified as regularly “non-posting,” their playing history is reviewed more closely to identify a pattern. • If the member’s history indicates a pattern of non-posting of scores, they will be contacted by the Golf Professional (or designee) to request cooperation in maintaining an accurate GHIN handicap. The Golf Professional will advise the Handicap Committee of the results. • Subsequently, the Committee will review the identified member’s posting/playing history to evaluate compliance. • In the unlikely event of “non-compliance,” the member will be contacted again by the Golf Professional, advising that noncompliance persists. The member would then have the opportunity to explain any mitigating circumstances that would explain non-posting.

• If the problem continues, the member will receive a letter from the Golf Professional advising that the member is ineligible to participate in any KGCC sponsored competitive events until such time, the Committee determines that full compliance has been satisfied. • The Golf Professional will be responsible for ensuring that the affected member does not compete in any event until cleared by the Handicap committee. Accurate handicaps will enhance the interest and fairness of our competitive events. Again, this year we will continue to emphasize Kensington’s pace of play, as well as score posting for handicaps. There was a significant response and improvement in these two areas by the members last season. Maintaining that momentum and even improving upon it will be our goal. Both topics affect the overall enjoyment for all members, as well as creates a fair and equitable competitive environment. Please use your Golf Staff to help answer any questions you may have.

Fitness & Spa

Greetings, We hope your summer activities and travels have brought you much enjoyment. Since this is a three month edition, we are required to project ahead on our calendar year! The Fitness Center looks forward to your return because we enjoy seeing your smiling faces, rising energy levels, and eagerness to stay healthy and fit. We will continue to offer our past services in addition to putting new ones on our agenda. Personal Trainers, Marion, Kristy and John, are planning a “FUN & FITNESS” event during the first week of November. This will give you time to settle in and then mentally gear up for challenging yourselves physically. We are aware that not everyone is on the same level, but do not let this discourage you from participating. We will make the necessary adjustments! More details will be forthcoming. Kristy will be holding her first Men’s Golf Conditioning Class on Thursday, October 8th at 8:30 am. The response to her class has been excellent and those attending have begun to see changes in their flexibility, power, and core stability, which results in an improved golf swing!! It’s a win-win, so make this a MUST on your schedule of fitness activities. John is excited about starting a new Ladies’ Golf Conditioning Class, which will begin Wednesday, November 4th at 9:00 am. John has his Level 1 Titleist Golf Performance Certification and will be teaching exercises that will benefit any sport related activity. Give it a try; you have a lot to gain by improving your body to perform at its maximum level. Marion has always enjoyed teaching her Stretch and Tone Class on Mondays at 10:00 am and her Mat Pilates Class on Wednesdays, which will now be held at 10:00 am as well. This class focuses on strength, flexibility, and balance. We cannot afford to lose any of these abilities. Marion’s classes will begin the week of November 2nd.

Lucia will continue teaching her very popular Water Aerobics Class, held on Tuesday and Thursdays at 10:00 am. We are also happy to announce that John will be conducting a new Aqua Fitness Class for Men & Ladies. The day and time are still to be determined. It involves conditioning in the water and on the pool deck. This is a unique workout for you! Dohl, Beverly, Martina, George, and Raphael will still be providing you with our Spa Services. Their years of experience make them very qualified to offer you some of the best massages available anywhere. We are also pleased to introduce Gigi to our staff. She has an excellent background as an esthetician. When possible, please give us a 24 hour notice when scheduling an appointment. Michael, our dedicated Chair Massage Therapist, will be offering his services on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8:00 am to noon. Reservations are not necessary so take advantage of just walking through the door of the Fitness Center and getting relief from any back, shoulder, or hip discomfort. Our Fitness Committee will be offering a CPR CLASS through the LIVE and LEARN SERIES. This event is scheduled for Thursday, November 19th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. The cost is $45.00 and will be taught by a very qualified and professional couple representing CPR Collier County. Please take advantage of this opportunity to participate by making a reservation with Carol, our Club’s Receptionist. The number to call is 649-4440. There is a minimum requirement of 10 members. And remember, “A lesson learned today could be a life saved tomorrow.” Safe travels to all of you returning from distant locations!
