A Message From

The General Manager Happy New Year! On behalf of our entire Kensington staff, let me wish you all a happy and healthy New Year. As we ring in 2016, our team of dedicated professionals is focused on Member service and exceeding the highest level of Member satisfaction throughout the year. The Club calendar in December was packed with a variety of activities for Members and their guests to enjoy; we will kick it up a notch in January. It was a pleasure meeting many Members in my first few months and I look forward to building relationships with all of the membership as time progresses. I urge all Members to let me know how we are doing; your feedback is critically important to the Club and will help us to deliver the best possible Member experience tailored to your specific needs and requests. Our Director of Membership, Lorijane Graham, has been very busy welcoming and acclimating our new members to Kensington. Our Membership Committee has established an Ambassador Committee to help Lorijane and our team with the new member orientation process. I ask our entire membership to give a warm welcome to all the new faces at the Club; it wasn’t too long ago that many of you were the new members at our magnificent Club. Once again, let me wish you, on behalf of the entire staff and management team, all the best in 2016, as we look forward to making this New Year a positive and extraordinary one for each and every one of our Members.

Food & Beverage Happy New Year!! I am certain 2016 will be a great year filled with good health and warm smiles. The Holiday Season was fantastic and we enjoyed a number of great events. These included the Winter Wine Fest & Christmas Sing-a-Long, as well as the Chanukah dinner. This new year will bring a few new things and see the return of a number of your favorites.

I encourage you to make your event and a la carte reservations online similar to the tee time system. Please remember you can now reserve tables in the Mayfair Grill for dinner and bar service. These tables offer the same food and service as the Chelsea Lounge except the Grill Room allows reservations. The Chelsea Lounge will remain as walk-in service only, no reserved tables.

Our famed Wednesday Grill Nights will begin Wednesday January 6, at 5:30pm. Please join us to experience Kensington at its best each Wednesday evening. Reservations are strongly recommended and greatly appreciated. Thursday evenings will be available for private events all season and will not be offering a la carte dining.

Something new Chef Ralph and I have created for you is our themed buffet you can look forward to once per month. The upcoming lineup includes:

January 14 will be a special evening as Eddie Clark, the winemaker from Amizetta, will host our first wine dinner of the season. This event is limited to 24 guests and is open to all members. Eddie may be joined by his wife, Jenny Wagner. Jenny’s father is Chuck Wagner, founder of Caymus Vineyards. Amizetta is one of the secret gems in Napa. Between the Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and especially the Cabernet, all tend to be on the big fruit forward side and have just amazing balance.

Please inquire at the Golf Shop about this year’s first Nine & Dine on Wednesday, January 20th. Shotgun at 3:30pm with Grill Night following.

Friday, January 29: Italian themed buffet Friday, February 19: Asian themed buffet Please remember to contact Rachael Groman for any private functions you would like to arrange at the club. Rachael’s contact information is rgroman@kensingtoncc.com 239-2131991. If you would like to arrange for a card room or private meeting in one of our meeting rooms, please contact me directly at bborshell@kensingtoncc.om 239-213-1986. Thank you for your participation and support of Kensington’s Food & Beverage program. Sincerely,

Happy New Year to all of you and hope 2016 is a memorable year for you all. As the holidays come to a close, the entire staff is looking forward to your return because we have a lot of exciting events planned for you to enjoy. Kensington’s Wednesday Grill Night is back, starting on January 6, 2016. Grill Night will feature a salad bar, burgers, hot dogs and brats or sausages hot-off the grill, along with fried shrimp. For variety every week, don’t’ be surprised to find sausages, chicken, fish and pasta. Please make your reservations early because Wednesday Grill Nights will be sure to sell out every week. We have been getting a lot of positive feedback on the variety of menu options now being offered. The staff will continue to make weekly specials for your enjoyment, with great price point in mind. Please check your weekly email for what is new on the menu during the coming week. Reservations are still a challenge. With the availability of 80 more seats in the Mayfair Lounge, we ask that you PLEASE make reservations whenever possible. Reservations are important for many reasons: it helps us to better staff for the evening; it helps prepare the right amount of food for the evening; and, and it sets us up so we can have better timing on beverage service. We encourage all members to make reservations to ensure that you will have a great dining experience. Our next cooking Demo will be January 16, 2016. We have plenty of room, so please make your reservation. Remember that we offer knife sharpening service free to all our members. Drop them off at the front desk and in a few days they will be ready to go. As we make strides on improving your dining experience, I want thank you all for your continued support in Kensington food and beverage program. Happy and Healthy new year from all in Kensington’s Kitchen Culinary regards,

Tee time reminder. Please make sure you make your tee time plans ahead and get your requests in on time. Because of the anticipated increase in play as the winter season starts, there could be some days where you may not always get the exact time you requested. The Golf Staff will always do their best to get you as close to your requested time as possible. Linked group captains are asked to be punctual and accurate with your requests. Walkers, please remember our Caddie On Call program. We do attempt to contact caddies several days in advance in order to secure their services on your behalf. This is a wonderful amenity for your club. One of the original design elements was to make this is a great course to walk and walking is truly the best way to enjoy the essence of the game. Maybe not every round but occasionally treat yourself to a special round and take a caddie. SPECIAL NOTE: Sign-up for the Men’s Invitational, March 3-5, have opened. The field is limited to the first 60 teams. You should have received a special e-mail with all information. We also have packets available in the Golf Shop. Ladies Winter Guest Day, January 27, sign-up book is in the Golf Shop at this time. Watch for special flyers on the weekly e-mail blast and posters around the club. Field is limited to the first 120 players. The course is ready, your staff is prepared, let’s have a memorable season!

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday Season and that you are ready to enjoy the rest of another great season at Kensington. The weather has been a big topic so far this season with very warm and humid conditions persisting through January but I am here to tell you this won’t last. Forecasters have predicted that we are in the beginning of what could be one of the strongest El Nino patterns on record. I would like to briefly discuss what the El Nino phenomenon is and how it may impact our season. El Nino is a weather pattern that is created when sea temperatures rise in the equatorial Pacific Ocean which in turn changes the overall weather conditions for the northern hemisphere. The warmer sea and air temps, combined with the cooler jet stream that dips further south during the winter months, produce more rain for us and increases the potential for more severe thunderstorms. The general weather conditions are mostly cloudy which can persist for weeks and also causes cooler temperatures because the sunlight is not available for heat. So cooler temperatures, increased rainfall and more cloud cover is the forecast for the remainder of season which will not only interrupt golf availability, it could have disastrous effects on the course itself. We typically expect it to be cooler during season which alone is not a major hindrance to growing good turf. When the cooler temperatures are combined with wetter than normal conditions and heavy cloud cover, it can change the growth characteristics of the turf entirely. Turfgrass grown in shaded conditions generally exhibits elongated or “leggy” growth, weakened leaves, reduced root vigor and little resistance to disease pressure. These characteristics are the exact opposite of what we look for when evaluating turfgrasses for use on golf courses. The turfgrass plants metabolic and physiologic processes demand copious amounts of sunlight for normal growth and without this sunlight it can lead to increased disease incidence, reduced wear tolerance, and increased chance of algae formation (which competes with the turf) and potentially turf dieback. We have been preparing for the possibility of a severe weather season since the summer. Many of our cultural practices such as aerifying and topdressing can help us avoid larger problems during less than favorable weather. During the 1997-1998 El Nino, many golf courses suffered total loss of turf, particularly on greens, due to what many called the worst El Nino ever recorded. Forecasts are calling for similar conditions this season but we are hopeful that our past experience will assist us in overcoming any weather related issues and that we get enough sunshine to keep Kensington the paradise you deserve.

Fitness & Spa

Greetings to Everyone,

NEW YEAR! NEW FITNESS DIRECTOR! NEW WORKOUT SCHEDULE! NEW YOU!

As you all know by now, I am retiring my position as Fitness and Spa Director as of January 4, 2016. I certainly have enjoyed the opportunity of serving as Director and have appreciated the many compliments I have received over the past four years. There is always room for improvement and I know with our forthcoming plans of a renovation in May, 2016, our Center will be even more functional. I am happy that I will still be involved in the Fitness Center as an Independent Contractor working with my clients and teaching classes. I attribute the enjoyment of working at Kensington to its wonderful membership and to the Staff that I have been closely associated with over the years. As I pass the baton to Kristy, I am leaving all of you in good hands! Kristy has already proven herself to be more than capable to take over as Director and I know she is looking forward to carrying on in this capacity with enthusiasm and professionalism.

I am excited and honored to become your fitness director. I am grateful to Marion in helping shape me for this position over the last three years we have worked together. Looking ahead, you may see some new faces in the Fitness Center. I will be hiring another PILATES instructor and possible female personal trainer in order to meet the needs of our members. You can be assured we have the best Fitness Staff Naples offers. Our focus is QUALITY of instruction, SAFETY of members, SOCALIZATION with a fun workout that gives RESULTS! Don’t forget, we offer a 30 minute introduction to the circuit machines with our trainer, John Lyncheski. Please call John directly to set up your complimentary private session. “Save the Date, Save a Life!” Learn CPR on March 21, 2016 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm
