The General Manager As the seasons change our responsibilities around the club change as well. Summer is a time we focus on member satisfaction and activities for those of you who live in Naples year-round. We address renovation projects, marketing, budgeting, calendar planning and strategic initiatives. Summer is when the club management will work with our Board of Directors laying the foundation for a successful 2016-2017 season ahead. Essential summer golf course maintenance will be ongoing throughout the summer months. Normal aerification and verticutting to promote healthy root systems and maintain quality turf conditions will begin shortly. As always, we will broadcast regular email updates to keep you appraised of the summer course closings. Reciprocal opportunities are in place at over 50 area courses. The Fitness Center renovation begins May 2nd and should be completed by the end of June. The new indoor exercise room will enhance group fitness programs. Kristy and her team are excited and I hope you are as well. Club marketing remains a priority for the Club; we will work on our website, search engine optimization and

Your voices have tremendous value in a business that thrives on referrals. If you use social media, please make an effort to like Kensington’s Facebook pages share positive content or write a testimonial. Can you name a better spokesperson to communicate the lifestyle advantages of living and playing at Kensington other than a member of our club? In closing, I thank each and every one of you for making this past season a success. I hope that you all enjoy the summer, wherever your travels take you. As stated last month; for those of you who plan on relaxing and enjoying your summer here in Naples, our team promises to keep you entertained and I look forward to seeing you around the Club! Food & Beverage A warm spring welcome to the numerous members enjoying the start of our restful SW Florida summer. We are thrilled we will be able to spend the summer together. Chef Ralph launched great new summer menus recently so please come in and try out the new flavors. At lunch we will be continuing the “Play and Stay” package serving a selection of lunch entrees for $8.00. Tuesday and Friday evenings you will see the return of our “Wine & Dine” menu offering a complimentary bottle of house wine when you order 2 entrees from the “Entrée Selections” portion of the menu! If you don’t drink wine, you can each enjoy a cocktail or beer instead. Chef Ralph and I wanted to create a reason for you to celebrate each month at the Club. We invite you to join us on select Friday evenings once each month for an Italian buffet. To make this evening even more exciting, we will be showcasing complimentary hors d’ouervers and happy hour pricing from 5:00pm-6:30pm (50% off well drinks, house wines and all beer). This cocktail party will be followed by a scrumptious Italian Buffet. The Friday Italian Buffet nights include May 20, June 24, July 29 and August 26. If you don’t know what you will do after Chef Ralph’s incredible Italian Buffet, we have a plan! Stick around at the Club after the Italian Buffet to watch a spaghetti western classic; Friday May 20 and Friday July 29. Denim will be allowed during these two “Spaghetti Western” Friday evenings, but please no horses tied out front and leave your six shooters at home. (The Wine and Dine menu will not be offered during the Italian buffets nor the movie nights.)

Thank you for a great winter season. Please come in as often as you can through the summer. This is a tremendous help to the Food & Beverage staff. The busier we are in the dining room, the more staff we are able to keep over the summer. This is critical in maintaining and improving our consistency. Thank you for your support. Sincerely,
Bret Borshell & your F&B Family
Spaghetti Western Movie Nights Friday, May 20 and July 29 May 20: Watch the cult classic “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966)” July 29: Enjoy “Once upon a Time in the West (1968)”
We have teamed up with Dick Erick to create a fun way to enjoy an afternoon and evening, especially as a recreational golfer. Sign up for one of our “Nine and Dines” on June 24 and August 26. The format is approachable for all levels of play since you are only playing 9 holes. After golf you can join the Italian Buffet! We want to make it easy to have a great time this summer. Each month we will be showcasing a red and white by the glass for all members to enjoy. These “wines of the month” will be discounted for Grape Expectation wine club members. It is worth mentioning that we have upgraded our well liquor selection. Our well liquors include Bacardi, Cuervo, Bombay, Grant’s, Sobieski and Early Times. I hope you notice the difference in taste and are proud to order a well drink with your guests.

Culinary Corner
Dear Members As I look back on this past season, I want to thank the membership for their continued support as we continue to take the Culinary Department to new heights. I also want to thank the entire culinary staff for working very hard this season and going the extra mile to make it right and taking great pride in making all our events something special. After my second year here at Kensington, I look back on how I could work more efficiently. These past years I found myself spending a lot of time making menus and sitting in meetings during the heart of the season, which takes me from cooking. This year I plan to have 90% of the menus done for all the parties and events by July 1st. This way we would only have to tweak them as we move forward. What does this mean for the member? We will take all ideas into consideration during the planning process. And at that point we will plan the event and make sure it fits in the budget. Other benefits about creating the menus early is that it will help with the marketing, planning, costing and implementation of all parties and events for the season. This will eliminate many time consuming menu meetings so Bret and I can be running the operation from the floor not from our offices. Next Season we will once again do a series of cooking classes for the membership to enjoy. I want to thank all who attended and supported these events throughout the year and next year we will try and do some kind of hands-on cooking in the dining room. I am reaching out to many vendors in the area to see if they would be interested in trying a green market right here at Kensington. I think it would be worth exploring this option. As we plan on new menus, I am also going to keep the weight watchers’ points on a few items for those who follow their guidelines.

For the members who stay in Naples year round, please remember that we are open Tuesday and Friday for dinner; and please take advantage of our Wine and Dine program. Purchase any two Clubhouse entrée selections from the menu and receive a bottle of house wine or two well drinks on the house. It is Important that we get your support during the summer because we have a great staff here and we need the business to keep them employed. Thank you again for your continued support. Have a great summer and travel safely wherever your summer’s journeys take you.

M e r c h a n d i s e F o r e Yo u Spring is here and with that brings: sweet smelling flowers, sunshine, and Mother’s Day. The second Sunday of the month, May 8th, is Mother’s Day - A day to remember and thank the woman who has been a special part of your life. Come into the golf shop on May 5th through the 8th, and receive special pricing on most of our in-stock merchandise. Complementary gift wrapping is available, as always. Purchase your items, we will wrap, and it will be ready to give. The Golf Shop will be offering special pricing on any item or outfit that is purchased as a Mother’s Day gift. For apparel, there will be an additional 15% to 25% off member pricing. For accessories, including handbags, jewelry and shoes, there will be an additional 15% off member pricing. If it is golf equipment that your special woman is interested in, there will be an additional 15% off member pricing. There have been additional items added to the men’s and ladies sale racks. Remember to take a look to see if there are any items you may like to have at a bargain price. I have started discussions with sales representatives regarding trunk shows for the Fall. I plan to have a variety of products and fashion lines to meet everyone’s needs. To the list, I will be adding a few shows with products for the gentlemen. It has been a wonderful first season at Kensington and I appreciate how welcome and comfortable you have made me feel. For those members leaving us this month for their for summer homes, I would like to wish you safe travels and have a wonderful and healthy summer.
From the Rough New Addition to the Family Spring is here and love is in the air. We have been seeing all sorts of babies over the last few months including ducklings, rabbits, squirrels, fish, snakes and turtles but there is one that is new to our clan that you probably have not noticed. I would like to introduce our latest and newest additions, Edgar and Miller the Caterpillar. I am not sure which one is Edgar or Miller exactly; since we’ve had nearly 300 Monarch Butterfly Caterpillars in our two new butterfly gardens in March. Because they are almost identical looking we have been calling them all by the same name with the same response every time, munch, munch, munch. Wow they can eat! We planted the gardens at 1 and 10 tees last fall to experiment with creating a butterfly habitat in addition to the birdhouses, aquatics and wildlife habitats we have created over the years. I was very surprised to see the early success since this was our first attempt at attracting the Monarchs to lay their eggs here at Kensington. But what a success it was. Butterfly gardens are very simple to create and they attract a huge amount of insects for the small amount of area planted. By using specific host and/ or nectar feeding plants, it is possible to attract up to a dozen different types of butterflies. One caution that needs to be noted, the caterpillars often feed on the host plant so the plants may not always look the best but it is for a good cause and the plants do grow back in time. Also remember that insecticides are a no-no for what should be obvious reasons (we sprayed them several times before realizing how counterproductive we were being). I am taking several pictures of the different stages of Edgar’s life to share later. They grow up so fast!

Many of our major events were contested in the second half of the season. Congratulations to all of the following winners.
2016 Men’s Invitational Results
What a great season we have had. Other than a little challenging weather in November and January we have experienced what everyone is here for, plenty of sunshine and fun. As the winter/spring season winds down, we will be preparing for the launch of our summer season. Reciprocals begin Sunday, May 1, 2016. Please remember we allow visiting members from our neighboring clubs to make reservations up to 4 days in advance so for at least the first 2 weeks of May use your “request” option 7 days in advance. This will ensure you getting the times you want. On behalf of the Golf Staff, we extend a sincere thank you for all of your support both in the events as well as supporting your Golf Shop. For those of you soon heading north, we wish you safe travels with a fun and restful summer. For those who will be here to open our summer season we will be playing a lot of golf and enjoying our beautiful Gulf Coast. Please watch the Wednesday golf e-blast for event announcements.
