Hello and Happy New Year! The year 2015 is in the record books and has proven to be a very successful year for Carrollwood Country Club. I would like to take this opportunity to recap the year and point out our successes as a country club. Between January and December of 2015 we grew by signing up 159 new memberships for the year. This number was made up of 68 golf memberships, 9 tennis memberships, and 82 social memberships. Currently our total number of memberships at Carrollwood Country Club is 1,052. Please take a look at our Membership Directors article as she details out the category breakdown of the 1052 memberships. Throughout the year we have experienced an increase in attendance at every food and beverage member event compared to the previous year. Our Valentines Day event experienced an increase of 300% compared to 2014 while our Easter event increased by 20%. The Mothers Day Celebration in May saw an increase of 85% over the 2014 event and our Boo Buffet in October increased by over 25%. In November our Thanksgiving Buffet attendance increased by 35% as compared to the 2014 event and our December Brunch with Santa had over 519 reservations for the day. The Golf operation reported that our total annual rounds were 33,460 which is an increase of 1,108 rounds over 2014 and the highest number of rounds for many years. Our golf course continues to be in very good condition and should be considered as one of the best conditioned courses in the Tampa area. The new sand in the bunkers has been a nice addition to an already well maintained golf course. Carrollwood Country Club has a very dedicated staff in our maintenance crew who work very hard at maintaining our top notch conditions. The Tennis and Aquatics Center has also experienced a nice increase in activity over the year. Attendance to the many individual classes offered to the membership has increased greatly over 2014 while the Tennis facility has seen their Tennis instruction explode in comparison to last year. An important goal we have as one of the Concert Golf Properties clubs is to reinvest 3% of revenues back into the country club every year. Due to our above listed successes we were able to reinvest over $150,000 back into the country club during 2015. Here are a few of the improvements. $25,000 Sand Replacement of All Course Bunkers $25,000 Tennis Court Renovations $ 7,500 21 New Practice Range Mats $ 2,500 New Practice Range Picker $ 6,150 Splash Pad and Pool Repairs $ 8,600 Golf Course Irrigation Pump Repairs $ 8,000 Wall Repairs and Repainting of All 3 Banquet Rooms of the Clubhouse $10,000 Exterior Wood Deck Repairs to Cart Deck Located Between All 3 Nines $ 8,000 HVAC Repairs to Clubhouse Systems $15,000 New Computers in All Departments, Upgrades to the Clubhouse and Rec Center Wireless System, and a New Phone System $10,600 Replacement of Kitchen Coolers, Kegerators, Cooking Grills and Outdoor Banquet Chairs In addition we have recently cleaned all interior carpets and repaired, cleaned, and re-grouted all interior tiles throughout the clubhouse. In November Carrollwood Country Club was listed in the top 5 of the Tampa Bay Times Best of the Best golf courses which is voted on by the Tampa Bay Times readers. We are very proud of our 2015 accomplishments and understand that we could not have experienced these accomplishments without your support of the country club. I would like to assure you, Concert Golf Properties, I, and the Carrollwood team will continue to be dedicated to maintaining our country club as one of the best. I would like to thank you again for your support as a member of Carrollwood Country Club. I look forward to seeing you at the club in 2016.

Hello CCC Members, My hope for all of you, as you sit and read this last letter of 2015 is that you all have prospered, stayed in good health and are enjoying life with your loved ones. Time sure has gone quickly, but what a great year for membership and the club in general! We have 159 new members and the year isn’t over yet. I get asked this question quite often, so I thought I would take this opportunity to tell you just exactly how many members we have. We currently have 1,052 memberships, 430 of those are Golf, 483 are Social and 139 are Tennis memberships. Keep in mind, those are memberships, not the total amount of members within those memberships, so CCC is flourishing and I’m extremely proud to be a part of this club and be your Membership Director. As I look back on the year, I think about all the wonderful people and families I’ve met and I can’t tell you how nice it is to come to work and see many of you on a daily basis. I feel very fortunate and for that I thank you. I know we have some exciting things planned for the year ahead and let’s not forget about the AWESOME Ambassador Program that’s ongoing until the end of February. I truly appreciate all of your referrals and I’m so excited to see who is going to win those Masters Tickets, so keep them coming.

I wish each and everyone one of you a Wonderful New Year and I am truly looking forward to making 2016 here at CCC the best yet.

Food & Beverage news

TODD BROWNE, FOOD & BEVERAGE DIRECTOR Happy New Year to everyone! Wow, 2015 was such a great year for the Club, particularly for the Food and Beverage department. This was possible because I truly have a great staff that is passionate about your experience. With Chef Jake leading the “heart of the house” team, Danny and Kristie leading the front lines, and Stephanie and Kristen leading the catering team, we were able to set record numbers. But it’s more then just numbers, the staff truly has grown and is focused on guest service and food quality. We truly strive to make it a great experience for you, the members, and we want you to be proud to call CCC your home. This year we are going to go bigger and better with every event. To name just a few, we will have monthly wine dinners, sponsored by Southern Wine and Spirits, set up for those of you who love wine. These dinners will be on the last Wednesday of every month from 7 to 9 pm and will include a 5 course plated meal with 5 glasses of different varietal wines for only $55++. To test your knowledge, the 2nd Thursday of each month will be Trivia Night. Steve Welch, “The Trivia Guy,” is fantastic and is a well known local talent. Dinner starts at 6 and the games kick off at 7 pm. Half price drinks will be available for the players and cash prizes will be presented to the winning teams. We will feature a family night on Wednesdays. For each adult Pasta Night purchased, you will receive one child’s Pasta Night for FREE. Chef Jake and team will be cooking on the patio cooking up 3 different kinds of pasta, fresh veggies, Marinara or Alfredo sauce and sauté them together with your choice of shrimp, chicken or meatballs. On a diet from your New Year’s resolution? No problem! Just eat the shrimp and veggies. Every adult will receive a complimentary glass of wine, then experience half price house wine for the rest of the evening.

Frank and Jim will continue to entertain you on the patio every Friday from 6 to 8 pm. Saturdays are the perfect night to bring your neighbors and friends to enjoy half priced drinks and half priced appetizers from 6 to 9 pm. Football season is ending, but don’t worry, as we will have our all new BBB Day. Bourbon, Burgers and Brews are all half price from 11 am to 7 pm (dine-in only). Our fresh, never frozen, hand pressed, half pound burger is amazing. Compliment the burger with your favorite brew or bourbon for half off our regular menu price. Carrollwood Members,

Happy New Year! Wow, 2015 really flew by. The golf staff and I would like to thank all of our members for a great year. Summer was a challenge with all the rain but the golf course seemed to hold up and is in great shape rolling into the winter. As most of you have seen, we have replaced the sand in all of our bunkers, creating a beautiful look as well as a much better playing condition. I believe you will be very pleased with the overall conditions of the entire course. As we move into 2016 we are looking forward to an exciting year. We will kick off our Men Golf Association on January 9th with the ABCD Step Aside Scramble. We will have a scheduled event every month as well as the annual MemberGuest, Member-Member and Club Championship. Our Women Golf Association is currently active and plays weekly through the winter months and some play into the summer, also having annual Member-Guest and Club Championship. If you have any questions or would like to join our Associations please contact us in the golf shop. We will keep the golf shop fully stocked with all the latest in equipment and fashion to provide for all your golfing needs. If there is anything my staff or myself can be of assistance to you please let us know. Again, Happy New Year and great golfing. See you around the club!

Happy New Year to everyone and let’s see what the new year will bring us! The Orange Ball Tournament in October seems like it was ages ago! Each player was provided with an orange ball and players had to play this ball the entire round. The object was not to lose your orange ball! Ann Barclay, Bev Boas, Marita Lauer, Irene Lukasik, Karen Marotta, Suzie Patteson, Nancy Pulliam, Pat Riggs, and Mary Smith retained their balls, and got their $2 entry back. Karen Marotta & Suzie Patteson tied for Low Net--$5 each. Ann Barclay & Pat Riggs tied for 3rd--$3 each. For Saturday’s play Marilyn Connors & Suzie Patteson kept their balls & their entry fee. Suzie’s Low Net earned her $8 & Marilyn was 2nd--$4. Good golfing ladies! The Match Play Tournament this year was very exciting! Julie Renspie and Marilyn Connors played in the final match and were tied after 18 holes. They continued to play FIVE EXTRA HOLES to determine the winner. 2015 Match Play Champion is Julie Renspie and 2015 Match Play Runner up is Marilyn Connors. Congratulations to both of you on a great Match Play competition! Cheryl Stoker has continued to put together couples scramble games and the last one on November 15th was another success. We look forward to more scrambles in 2016! In November Mary Smith sent out via e-mail the CCC Rules of Golf that might assist us to better understand USGA Rules and options that we might have during our Daily Play. Please be sure to review these rules of play and if you have any questions or would like clarification ask Shawn Gordon to review them with you. The CCC Club Championship, although not apart of the WGA tournaments, is worth mentioning as we had the ladies in the WGA win! 1st Low Gross .................. Sandie Peer 2nd Low Gross ................ Marilyn Connors 1st Low Net ..................... Mary Smith 2nd Low Net.................... Nancy Pulliam Great job ladies! In November one of our WGA members turned 90! Congratulations Lori Ledbetter! This beautiful lady just keeps playing 18 holes of golf and winning! We are very proud of her and happy to be a part of her life. Our holiday party was excellent this year and we want to thank Mary Smith, Nancy Pulliam and Dianne Ferris for all their hard work. What a great idea to make up gift boxes for the homeless veterans this year, giving to those who need it. Brilliant! Finally, there was the Tree Tournament on December 12th. Marilyn Connors was the winner and second place was Nancy Pulliam followed up by third place winner Karen Marotta. Looking forward to our Pink Ball Tournament in February and our MemberGuest Tournament on April 14th!

From the Golf Course Superintendent The golf course and maintenance staff have been enjoying the cooler weather. The hot and humid days of summer are behind us and we have been getting the course ready for the cooler months of the year. As many of you have noticed we have been adding new bunker sand to all the bunkers on the course. As of December 15th we have placed 774 yards of bunker sand on the course. We have completed the Cypress course and have begun work on the Meadow course which we hope to have completed by Christmas; our goal is to have the entire project completed by the second week of January. Although the bunker sand is aesthetically pleasing to the eye it can be a problem initially because the sand is very soft and your ball may plug or have a fried egg appearance when hitting into them; this is normal and the sand will get firmer in the upcoming weeks. We have some bunkers on the Pine course that we need to address the drainage in them or I should say the lack of drainage in them specifically #6 left side green bunker and the green bunker on #3 before we add new bunker sand.

I have had some questions regarding our black topdressing sand that we use on the greens. The reason that we use black sand in the winter months is because the black sand on the surface of the greens will tend to stay warmer than greens with white sand. We are trying to prevent the greens from going dormant and the black sand definitely helps keep the surface of the greens warmer. The maintenance staff and I would like to wish you a safe and joyful holiday season. See you on the course. Best regards,

Chuck Cakmakci Director of Agronomy

Tennis Tip by Tennis Director, Chris Cary

Close Like Carol for Better Doubles Play in 2016! The best doubles players move forward and close well at the net giving themselves better angles to hit more winners. As easy as it sounds, “closing” like this is seldom seen at the club level. The secret is in understanding the vertical reality of the rectangular tennis court which rewards players for moving forward as it provides more angles the closer they get to the net. As seen in figure 1, the Defensive Volley Position (DVP) is on the service line where players have only 30 degrees to put their volleys away. Halfway between the service line and the net is the Ideal Volley Position (IVP), which offers 130 degrees. All the way at the net is the Best Volley Position (BVP) providing players almost 180 degrees of volleying opportunity! Closing, therefore, is the skill of getting to the position that offers the best angles -- the BVP.

All tennis class series begin at the beginning of each month. Sign up at the Tennis and Aquatics Center front desk.

CLASSES FOR JUNIORS: Afternoon Junior Tennis Program Sessions begin January 4th! Session One: January 4th to February 26th Session Two: February 29th to April 22nd

Why don’t you just start right on top of the net in the BVP at the beginning of the point and save yourself the hassle of moving forward? Doing so makes you vulnerable against the opponent’s lob and an easy target. To be an effective closer, you should start in the IVP (fig.2) and take a two step journey to the BVP (fig. 3) when you anticipate getting a high offensive volley. Carrollwood Country Club tennis member, Carol Cotney (fig. 2 & 3), is an excellent closer as she moves to the BVP more often than most of her opponents allowing her to hit a high number of volley winners. In other words, she plays vertical. Try getting to the BVP more often to “close like Carol” for more doubles success in 2016!

League Tennis News & Other Happenings BY NOLA SMITH, TENNIS REPRESENTATIVE

Happy New Year! We will be starting new seasons this month, but to finish up the Fall season, the results are in: Our Women’s Monday Combo League (3.0/3.5) finished in the middle of the standings; The 3.0 USTA season begins January 4th. Our Tuesday Suncoast team (14 doubles teams) had a tough first half; we have a wonderful, dedicated bunch of players, and we will continue to improve – there are 13 strong clubs that participate on both sides of the Bay, and we have been struggling with injuries which means that some positions are difficult to fill. We are determined, however, to climb up in the standings. Our Wednesday Interbay team had a great season and finished 6th in the first half; The team has had a rash of injuries as well, but hopefully all will be healed and ready to play in this new season. Our Wednesday A LOT team played their final match on December 15th and ended up in 3rd position overall in the A LOT – C group. This team too has had injuries and some teammates were on a European tour so thank you to our subs for filling in.

Our 3.5 USTA night team season started January 7th. This group, known as the C5’s are one of 7 teams this season. All matches are played at night, so if you work during the day, this is the league for you. Our Men’s fall Combo leagues ended in early November and both the 7.5 & and 8.5 teams had competitive seasons, and the Combo format allowed people to play with some people with whom they normally would not play with. Great way to get to know players of all skill levels. A 4.0 Men’s 18 and Over team kicked off in early January. As always, we are looking for players and Subs! Our leagues could not manage without all those willing to do so. Please contact Chris Cary, our Tennis Director, if you wish to participate in any of the leagues and he will direct you to the appropriate Captains. In December, we had our Holiday Party at the home of Julie Wadding, where close to 50 women attended from our various leagues. Every year, we ask that everyone bring an unwrapped toy for a child, and this year we exceeded our total with over 50 gifts. Thank you for being so generous and giving. As always, good tennis everyone.

CONDO • RESORT A Warm Greetings to All From the Resort! We had a very successful Holiday Season here at the Resort and I want to thank all of you for your continued support! We saw a lot of you take advantage of your specially discounted rates by having your friends and family stay with us during the holidays. As a reminder, we offer discounted nightly rates for Carrollwood Country Club Member referred reservations as well as discounted corporate rates for any business related accommodations you may need. If you would like to inquire further about either of these please feel free to contact Vincent LoScalzo, J.R. Pfeuffer or myself and we will be more than happy to assist you.

A fun fact to note is that Emerald Greens Condo Resort is currently ranked #1 out of 160 hotels in the Tampa area for customer service on TripAdvisor.com! That is a testament to the terrific service provided by both the staff of the resort as well as the staff of the country club. It also speaks volumes about how welcome the CCC members make our guests feel while visiting our property, so thank you for that! We are looking forward to a strong 2016 and hope to have you stay with us sometime soon! See you around the Club!
