FROM THE DESK OF THE G.M. BY ALLEN SELF, GENERAL MANAGER

HEATHROW COUNTRY CLUB 1200 Bridgewater Drive Heathrow, Florida 32746 407.333.1450

www.heathrowcc.com

Greetings Carrollwood Members, As we move quickly through the summer months and brave the heat and rainy season, we continue to accomplish our annual planned improvements along with our preventative maintenance programs. With our success we have also experienced a few difficulties that I would like to bring you up to date on. First in early May we successfully installed a new computer software system throughout the country club. This included new hardware computers throughout the club also. Due to a mistake by the software installer, the June statements were not mailed out on their regular date and was delayed in getting to you the member. We have rectified this problem and future statements should be received in the scheduled timely manner. We apologize for any inconvenience. Our preventative maintenance scheduled for the golf course throughout the summer months remain on pace and is continuing to go well. We have recently purchased new umbrellas for the Aquatics Center and Tennis areas and are also expected to receive a new delivery of 90 EZGO golf carts for the Golf Operation sometime in early July. This much needed fleet of golf carts will eliminate multiple problems we have been experiencing with our current fleet that is currently 4 years old. At the time of writing this article we were gearing up for another successful Independence Day Celebration and expecting the usual 3,000 – 4,000 members and guests that traditionally attend the event. Please take a look at our Membership Director’s article within this newsletter as we have implemented a new program called our MSM program. This program will allow you as a member to receive a much lower monthly dues line for a period of two years when sponsoring a new member. The sponsored new member will also receive a lower monthly dues line for a period of one year. The 2016 year continues to be another very good year for Carrollwood Country Club. As I have stated many times in the past, our success relies on the support of the members of the country club. I would like to thank you for your support and we will continue to invest in our facility and work hard at maintaining the first class county club that you deserve. I look forward to seeing you at the club.

Around the Clubhouse TODD BROWNE, FOOD & BEVERAGE DIRECTOR

I am excited to share with you that our July 4th extravaganza is this Saturday. Each year we strive to make it more memorable than in years past. This is my 3rd year and I am extremely excited to bring to you the most action packed 4th of July celebration yet. For starters, we’ve added additional food options outside, which includes more bars and beverage areas. We’ve also lowered the price of the BBQ buffet inside the Clubhouse by 40%. Another exciting enhancement is a Zip Line that will be added to the Carnival Midway this year. Strap in and come fly over Cypress 1 with us. Speaking of July 4th, which is actually a Monday this year, the Clubhouse will be open from 11 to 4 pm. The Oasis Grille will also be open for you that day, so no need to break out the BBQ…come spend the day with us down at the pool. Get your tan on and let us cook and clean up the mess for you! Since Basketball and Hockey Seasons are over, it’s time to get ready for some football. We feature 15 screens in the bar and patio area all with the NFL package, so we will be showing all your favorite games. In addition, what could be better than watching your favorite team on the big screen? How about 50 cent wings and $8 pitchers of any draft beer of your choice. Yes, Guinness too. Your first pre-season game is August 11th at 7 pm. Just a reminder below is some of the other great specials we offer. Every Tuesday we offer our 2 for Tuesday special from 11am to 3pm. Buy any Sandwich (Dine-In Only) and get the second sandwich for free, including Fish ‘n’ Chips & Fish Tacos. Wednesday is our Family Night. Kids eat free pasta with the purchase of an adult pasta dish. We call this Wine Down Wednesday. What better way to sit back and relax then to have the cooking done for you. This includes all you can eat fresh pasta, three different types of sauce, meatballs, shrimp, and chicken cooked to order right in front of you. Dinner includes a complimentary glass of Stone Cellars House Wine, as well as your choice of House or Caesar Salad for only $14.95.

Food & Beverage news Friday Nights we feature Live Music on the Patio from 6 to 8:30 pm. Gene and Frank will take your requests and sing some of your favorite tunes that you and your whole family can enjoy on the patio. Join us early or make a reservation as the patio fills up quickly on Friday evenings. Saturday Nights from 5 to 9pm we continue to offer Happy Hour drink pricing teamed up with 1/2 Priced Appetizers all night. (Dine-In Only) Back by popular demand July 15th will be our Night in Havana Traditions Dinner Dance from 7 to 10 PM in the ballroom. For only $25.00 You won’t want to miss out on a great lineup that includes a glass of sangria for each person, 4 course plated dinner and lots of dancing. Come Salsa the night away. Make your reservations early with Janice. For those of you who attended our event in June, we thank you for your support. We had an amazing turn out for our 50’s Sock Hop Dinner and Dance. There were Pink Ladies, and poodle skirts everywhere. Speaking of Hot Summer Nights, the pool is open and we hope to see you there. We have a great summer time special for the months of July and August. Book a party with our catering team at the pool and receive a $75-dollar complimentary bar tab. ($250-dollar food and beverage minimum to receive the $75 bar tab) We also have summer camps going on at the TAC and it’s never too late to sign up. If after washing your car and all this rain makes you want to scream and murder someone. No need, we already did. Join us for the Murder Mystery Dinner show on August 19th to see who actually got murdered. Winning table will receive a $50 bar tab if you can figure who did it and where it happened. Sign up with Alyson today. As always, I value your opinion. If you have any ideas, or things you would like to see, please email me or stop by the bar and say “Hi”.

WGA CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT

Our WGA Championship Tournament had golf course and weather challenges this past Spring. We had eleven members who started in this event but several had to withdraw because of TWO rainouts. Prizes were awarded to LOW GROSS and LOW NET scores. A Big CONGRATULATIONS to these ladies who persevered our weather delays and have that “STICK TO IT” attitude.

SANDIE’S BEACH PARTY

With a strong tradition among the WGA players, our year end golf event was created by our President SANDIE PEER. Teams of three or four golfers played 14 holes in a Scramble. YEAH!!! All the PAR 5’s were eliminated from this event. Thank-you SANDIE!!! Fun challenges of the day included a BEACH BLANKET spread out on the fairway of #6 Meadow where the goal was to have your TEE shot stay on the blanket (no winners). On the turn between Cypress & Meadow we were instructed to “ PITCH -IN” the floating swimming pool in the pond and have the ball remain inside the pool. Our one and only Sandie Peer landed her ball inside the pool BUT it took a jump back out into the pond. (no winners here either) After golf, we gathered inside the clubhouse for a cool refreshing delicious lunch, with our tables overflowing with beautiful shells, candles and palm leaves. A tropical feast for the eyes and stomachs! (thanks Debbie Hayden for your expert flare in creating such a nice festive feeling!) Our first place winners were Sandie Peer, Mary Smith and Shirley Trout. The second place winners were Suzie Patteson, Nancy Pulliam, Pat Riggs and Debbie Hayden. Marilyn Connors was closest to the pin and Marita Lauer won closest to the line. Marilyn Connors expressed a big BIG thank-you to Hannah, our assistant pro who has been such a big help to all of us this 2015-16 year and announced the results from the RINGER BOARD and our most improved player. Our Most Improved Player for 2015-16 - Marilyn Connors Ringer Board Awards: Young Hong - Scored 97 for all 27 holes Pine: Gross winner -Karen Marotta 31; Net winner - Lori Ledbetter 18 Meadow: Gross winner - Suzie Patteson 33; Net winner - Pat Riggs 22 Cypress: Gross winner- Sandie Peer 33: Net winner - Irene Lukasik 20.5 The installation of the new WGA officers for 2016-2017 was held during the president’s day luncheon. Thank -you ladies for your dedication to the WGA Golfers.

The WGA 2016-2017 Officers: President-Sandie Peer Vice President - Marilyn Connors Recording Secretary - Cheryl Stoker Treasurer - Kathy McGlone Corresponding Secretary - Karen Bentley

Our golfing ladies will continue play this summer at CCC ( through the heat and often wet conditions on the course) on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Many of our WGA golfers are spending the summer visiting different courses across the Bay area playing in SUMMER NASSAU. Our first match was played at Hunter’s Green against Lake Bernadette. CCC came in 3rd with 7 points. Others matches will be held at Cheval, Lake Bernadette, CCC, Quail Hollow and ending in mid-August at Temple Terrace with a “FUN DAY”. Will report back with our CCC summer Nassau results in the early Fall.

UPCOMING EVENTS SIP ‘N SOCIAL - SEPTEMBER 8, 2016, 5-7 PM We would like to invite all existing 9 hole and 18 hole WGA members to join us on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 8th in the Emerald Room at the CCC clubhouse for our annual Sip ‘N Social. If you are a woman golfer and just want to learn more about joining our WGA league and meet some pretty amazing women, please consider coming too. We are a very welcoming group! We welcome women to join who have an established handicap of 40 or less. It’s a lot of fun and a great way to meet new friends. The cost to join is still only $55.00 annually. We play 18 holes every Thursday and Saturday from September 15th through late May. Please contact Kathy McGlone to join. Kathy’s email is Kathythegolfer@aol. com. Her cell is 810-1829.

Opening Day: Thursday, September 15th and Saturday, September 17th.

From the Golf Course Superintendent The maintenance staff has just completed our first greens core aerification and the greens have responded quite well. We have 2 more aerifications planned for each course each with much smaller tines. Our second round of aerifications will start Tuesday July 5th. In early June we experienced our first Tropical Storm of the season and the golf courses held up very well. We did lose about a half dozen trees throughout the property but nothing significant. We received 6 inches of rain from the storm and during the course of the same week we received an additional 6 inches so the total was 12 inches in 5 days. Following our first week of heavy rain I was shocked to hear that some members did not understand why we had not mowed all the fairways or tees on the Cypress and Pine courses. Please understand we do not want to fall behind on our mowing schedules but due to acts of nature sometimes we are unable to stay to this schedule without doing more damage to the golf courses.

On the other hand, recently members have asked me why are players restricted to cart paths only while the large rough mowing units are mowing areas that golf carts are not allowed. Please understand our rough units have specialized tires on them that help displace the weight much better than the golf carts. Turf tires are flat with no rounded edges so the rough unit’s footprint is spread out over a greater area allowing less weight compression than with a golf cart. It is an ongoing challenge to determine when we can safely mow areas or allow golf carts to travel across the golf courses without doing damage during the rainy season. Our top priority will always be to avoid course damage and I ask that you understand our decisions and help us to keep the golf courses beautiful. If you have any questions regarding this matter feel free to contact me I am more than happy to speak with you. Everyone in the maintenance staff would like to wish the membership a safe and happy summer. See you on the course,

Chuck Cakmakci Director of Agronomy

Kristen Kerr DIRECTOR OF SALES

League Tennis News & Other Happenings BY NOLA SMITH, TENNIS REPRESENTATIVE It’s summer, it’s hot, it’s humid, it’s rainy, and our tennis courts are still busy! The Monday 3.0 Ladies league finished on a strong note, finishing in 5th place in the league. Gina Morgan is captaining a 6.5 Combo team this summer, and while their roster is full, there is always room for more players if interested.

together a great roster. League begins against Lake Padgett on June 18th. Enjoy all the great happenings at our CCC tennis courts, and as always, good tennis everyone.

Nola

Our Tuesday Suncoast League finished up in April. A tough year for this league but we are very excited about our team for this Fall; we have some new players on the team, mixed with some strong veterans, so looking forward to a great season. Intra-team challenges are still going on as well. Carrollwood will be the host club this year, and our team is looking forward to “showing what we got” at our Club! Wednesday means two leagues playing at our Club. The ALOT team, which consists of 5 doubles teams, is now complete and challenges are over. They are holding practices every Wednesday and captain Gail Gibson indicates they are always looking for subs once the league starts as well as for their summer practices. The Interbay League, also played on Wednesdays, consists of seven doubles teams. Captained by Julie Renspie & Kathy Mudano, they are going through Intra-team challenges as well; their season starts in August. The C5’s – which is the 3.5 Ladies USTA night time league (played on Thursday night) will be resuming Ladies Night every Thursday night at 7:00 beginning on June 16th. This is a great way to practice and stay in top form for the season that begins in the Fall. Contact Kristine Glein if interested in participating. THE MEN – their over 40’s season is winding down; CCC finished in the middle of the pack, winning several matches and losing some very close contests. The team is committed to working hard and getting better, but could use some new players. Next up …. The 8.5 Combo team; Captain Huy Khuu has put
