FROM THE DESK OF THE G.M. BY ALLEN SELF, GENERAL MANAGER

Greetings Carrollwood Members, I would like to thank everyone for offering me such a warm welcome to the country club as I have just completed my second month at Carrollwood Country Club. It is with great pleasure that I report to you the success we have experienced so far in our 2015 season. In the golf operation we have seen a large increase in golf rounds for members and guest of members at the country club as compared to last year. The attendance of our membership too our social events at the country club have also grown a large amount as compared to our 2014 season. Our Super Bowl party more than tripled over the 2014 attendance, while our Valentines Day Celebration grew from 65 in 2014 to over 200 in 2015. We are very excited about our upcoming events, such as our Easter celebration. Please mark your calendars and join us for the special occasion. I have spoke to many members and received comments about the volume of emails that you receive from the country club every week. In an effort to simplify the process we have restructured our email marketing program to be the following. Every Monday we will send out one comprehensive email that will include information on all events scheduled for the current month and for that particular week. By choosing a link to an event or a day of the week that you are interested in and clicking on that particular link you will open up a larger window detailing your event of choice. This will allow you to pick and choose what you are interested in without having to read through everything.

This Monday email will always include the following: • A link to a monthly social calendar which will lay out all Social, Tennis, and Golf events for the current month. • A link to our current newsletter • A link to featured upcoming events, such as our Valentines Day Celebration, or Easter Buffet. • A link to our monthly Fitness Calendar. • A link to our monthly Tennis Calendar. • A link for each day of the week to choose that will detail the F&B specials, menus, and golf information for that chosen day. The Monday email will be sent every Monday and will include all information you will need to enjoy everything that is taking place at Carrollwood Country Club. We will follow up our Monday email with special emails for particular events that may have a slow turnout and need to receive extra marketing to you as the membership. We will monitor a weekly report that will inform us of how many members are opening our emails and respond accordingly by cutting back our emails sent, if we see a drop in the rate of emails being opened. Our goal is to supply you with proper information to promote our golf and social events without overwhelming you with multiple emails per day. I also have some exciting golf news. We have purchased new golf mats for the practice facility. The mats that we have purchased are rated as one of the top practice mats in the industry. The new mats have a much more natural feel to them when striking an iron shot. They also allow for tee shots to be hit from the mats alleviating the need to move out front onto real turf when attempting to tee up a practice shot. This will greatly improve the surface to practice off of during the winter season when the turf has stopped growing and the grass tee traditionally becomes dirt. It will also allow us to rotate onto the practice mats throughout the year when needed to allow for the grass tee to heal. Thank you again for the warm welcome you have extended me during my first two months and I look forward to seeing you at the club.

Around the Clubhouse TODD BROWNE, FOOD & BEVERAGE DIRECTOR No “Deflate-Gate” going on here! We are full steam ahead into the new year. Super Bowl Sunday was a great turn out and I cannot thank you all enough for your support. If you missed it, we had an 8 foot by 10 foot screen showing the exciting game while sitting back and enjoying Chef Jake’s and Chef Brian’s Ribs, Chickens, Burgers and Dogs. The TAC vs Golf flag football game was a one sided affair but we have already put the challenge out to Mr. Edwards and Mr. Garcia for next year, Staff vs Members. Stay tuned to see if the challenge is accepted and what is at stake. Did I say Steak? We added 6 new menu items to go along with our fantastic wine list. We added Filet Medallions to the menu. You can get 2 pieces (6 ounces) or a 3 pieces (9 ounces) and you can have different topping to each piece of the filet medallion from mushrooms and onions to blue cheese crumbles. The dinner comes with a salad and choice of side. We also added our slow cooked St. Louis Ribs to the menu, too. You can get a half rack or a full rack depending on just how hungry you really are. Another great item that we added is the Atlantic Cod Fish n’ Chips. These new items are available all day and this goes along with our new Chefs Corner which comes out every Wednesday on the email blast. Each night, Chef Jake and Chef Brian will offer the all day menu plus 3 to 4 specials.

There will always be a Seafood, Steak and a Chicken special every night in addition to Chef Brian’s homemade desserts, too. The next two months we will continue to offer something for everyone each and every day. Tuesdays we are offering our 2 for Tuesday special. From the Golf Course Superintendent We have worked very hard in recent weeks to maintain top golf course conditions while moving through our winter season. I am pleased to report the golf courses continue to be in good condition with the putting surfaces rolling there best all year, so please come out and enjoy the success of our hard work. We will be topdressing the greens again on Monday March 2nd. You may have noticed that our topdressing sand is now black. This is our normal protocol for the winter as black sand retains heat and aids in keeping our putting surfaces warmer in the cooler months of December through February.

The maintenance staff recently removed 3 large trees from the left side of hole #6 on the Cypress course. This is an area that we have not been able to maintain good playing conditions due to the shade produced by the trees. By removing these trees sunlight will be allowed to reach the turf on the left side of the greens complex and directly to the putting surface. We expect the playing conditions in this area to greatly improve with the removal of the trees. Please remember to practice good golf etiquette when playing. See you on the course!

BY MARY ROBINSON, CORRESPONDING SECRETARY Thank goodness for winters in Florida…it may get chilly here but we never have to worry about snow storms like Juno and Linus A special shout out to Mary Smith for organizing our Winter Wonderland Holiday luncheon this year with the help of her “elves” Nancy Pulliam, Sandie Peer, Pat Riggs and Liz Lagos. We also had the highest donation to Meals on Wheels of a little over $2,000.00! Great job ladies! Congratulations to the following WGA members who made it to the 19th hole for our December 4th Tree Tournament: 1st place – Julie Renspie; 2nd place – Irene Lukasik; 3rd place – Suzie Patteson; 4th place – Pat Riggs and 5th place – Diane Ferris. The WGA would like to welcome two new members…. Pat Lofaro and Deb Mabari. We are thrilled to have them join us! We are sorry to lose our Membership Director Ms. Lauren Rosenzweig. She helped solve a lot of issues for the WGA and was a pleasure to work with. Lauren has taken a new position within the Concert Golf Partners family of clubs. Good luck Lauren! A golf etiquette reminder…. We do not want to penalize players for slow play and suggest that you make every effort to keep up with

the foursome ahead. If your foursome has more than one open hole ahead, divide into twosomes as this will speed up play, or let the foursome behind you go through. However, on Thursdays, if you come in after 1:30 P.M. you will be disqualified from winning on that Thursday’s play. In the last newsletter there was an error in reporting the match play tournament. The Match Play Champion was Marilyn Connors. One of our most fun events of the year is coming up at the time of this writing and that is our WGA Member Guest Tournament scheduled for April 16, 2015. This year’s theme is “Tee Time” and the format is 2 best balls of a Foursome. The cost is $80/person which includes lunch and lots of giveaways and awards! As usual the turn out for this event is great and we hope everyone signs up. To quote Dianne Ferris…..“Be calm…it’s Tee Time…”

And remember….

“Golf is a game in which you yell ‘fore,’ shoot six, and write down five” - Paul Harvey

CVST “On Fire” at Gasparilla Races At the 8th Annual Gasparilla Races, at Tampa Prep, Carrollwood Village Swim Team managed a stellar performance only two weeks after performing well at the Mac Crutchfield Invitational in Tallahassee. Even with such a quick turnaround, there were some huge time drops and a couple of Florida Age Group Championships (FLAGS) cuts picked up. Friday Night CVST had only two athletes participate in the distance events. Abby Forman (13) dropped 3.83 seconds in the 400 Individual Medley (IM), from a best time set in Tallahassee, to go 5:15.10. After Forman, teammate Zach Bowles (16) destroyed his personal best 1650 freestyle time, also set in Tallahassee, by 3 seconds finishing in 17:11.23. Emma Herron (13) started Saturday morning off with an 8 second drop in the 200 back speeding to the wall in 2:06.69. Lauren Kenny (13) attacked her 100 fly dropping 3.56 seconds to go 1:38.18. Jayden Repak (8) finished third in the 100 free dropping 3 seconds to go a swift 1:16.39. Soon after, Madison Ratchford (8) flew through her 100 free dropping 8 seconds to go 1:28.96. Ava Edwards (8) dropped a second in the 100 free as well touching in a fierce 1:32.38. Ella Herron (8) had a 12 second drop in her 100 free going so fast we could barely see her finish in 1:34.58. Logan Ingerick (11) had a second drop in his 50 breast to go a blazing 37.85. Savannah Kaddouri (10) annihilated her best time by 1.55 seconds in the 50 breast to go 50.29, dipping so close to the 50 point mark. New to the team, McKinley Cassels (7) had a 5 second drop in the 100 free to go 2:02.04, close to the 2:00 barrier. Taylor Cassels (7) had a 13 second drop in the 50 fly to go 57.00, dipping under the minute mark for the first time. Madison Houck (10) had a 2 second drop in the 200 IM to go a fast 3:09.55. Kaitlyn Labella (9) annihilated her 500 free dropping over 28 seconds to go 6:43.46, finishing so fast the wall was probably scared. Mabry Bishop (10) had a killer Saturday afternoon picking up FLAGS cuts in both the 50 breast and the 500 free, which included a 16.45 second drop. Sunday Morning was led by Tyler Bowles (14) with a 3 second drop in the daunting 200 fly, to go a beastly time of 3:03.29. Logan Tirheimer (13) had a whopping 9 second drop in the 200 breast to go 2:58.69. Daryl Pickerell (16) had a 5 second drop in his 100 back to go 1:04.28. Also new to the team, Reagan Cassels (10) had a four second drop in the 100 back to go a speedy 1:31.76. Kayla Rodriguez (11) had close to an 11 second drop in the 100 back to go a swift 1:26.62. Cat Salgado (9) had a 2 second drop in the 50 splash and dash freestyle to go a wicked fast 44.11. Jackson Houck (10) had a 10 second drop in the 100 IM attacking the wall in 1:36.69. Sean Kenny (10) had a 3.46 second drop in his 100 IM to go 1:25.66. Sophia “Bubbles” Hasara (12) dropped 8 seconds in her 200 free to go a quick 2:41.48. Brooke Lively (13) had a 3 second drop in her 200 free splashing in to go 2:31.31. Savannah Rude (11) had a massive 19 second drop in her 200 free to go an impressive 2:42.58. As championship season approaches, all of CVST’s swimmers are swimming fast all the way from ages 6 to 16 across the board. Next up on the schedule is the Berkeley Distance Meet for some different long distance racing before buckling down for GTSA champs and FLAGS. Keep up the good work Carrollwood!

Tennis Tip by Tennis Director, Chris Cary BY CHRIS CARY, TENNIS DIRECTOR No one enjoys losing, yet learning from a loss is extremely important for true growth and improvement. How an athlete chooses to view and treat his or her losses can and should be managed. Here are 5 tips on how to use your losses to increase wins. 1. See Losses as Something Necessary for Your Future Improvement. When a loss comes, and they will, see it for what it is -- an opportunity to learn and get better.“The road to being a champion is paved with a 1000 loses.” -Bill Tilden 2 . Take One Thing from Your Opponent and Add It To Your Game. Commenting about his son Andre Agassi’s success in his developing years, Mike Agassi mentioned players should take one thing from each opponent they play and add it to their own game. For example, if your opponent is really good at attacking your weakness, acknowledge it. Copy it. Use it against your next opponent. Doing this will allow you to take something positive away from each loss and continue getting better. 3. View Your Recent Loss as A Problem You Can and Will Eventually Solve. The late Vic Braden once shared the story of Jack Kramer losing to Bobby Rigs for the third time in a row. After the loss, Vic felt bad for Jack and said “sorry you lost again to Bobby.” Jack replied, “don’t worry kid. I have him just where I want him.” Jack went on to beat Bobby 29 times in a row! Jack was studying Bobby during those first three losses. He was solving problems and making plans to play him more competitively in the future. See lost matches as a process and a way to learn about your opponent’s weaknesses. 4. Overcome The Pain of Change by Accepting Today’s Loss for Future Wins. Former tour player and USA Davis Cup Captain Tom Gullikson once decided to change his forehand grip in the middle of his career. Noting he wasn’t getting any younger and there is no good time to make such a change, he decided to do it the day before playing in the Japan Open! He didn’t win the tournament and it was painful as more losses followed. As time went on, however, overcoming the pain of change allowed him to win more matches in the future. 5. Enjoy Competing More Than Winning. Be careful not to let the fear of losing prevent you from enjoying and winning big matches.“You’ve got to get to the stage in life where going for it is more important than winning or losing” -Arthur Ashe

League Tennis News & Other Happenings BY NOLA SMITH, TENNIS REPRESENTATIVE / CAPTAIN / SUNCOAST LEAGUE

“March is already here - and so much has already happened in and around our tennis courts. We had a successful Derby in February. Pictures and winners will have been posted by the time you read this article. Our all important League updates are: Our 6.5 Combo USTA women’s league completed their season with a strong finish and now are on to the 3.0 Women’s USTA played on Mondays and are really doing well and currently in third place. Welcome to some new players on that team - Nicole Brown, Angela Bryant & Liza Garcia. Tuesday’s Suncoast league is right in the middle of their season and are facing some of the stronger clubs on their schedule. More wins to come and final standings in the next newsletter. Wednesday’s Interbay team have played about 1/2 of their schedule as well; the team is very excited about their new coach “G”; she is so supportive and the team is working very hard. Their knowledge of the court is really improving. The ALOT team, also played on Wednesdays is holding its own, and representing CCC with good, competitive play. Our new 3.5 USTA women’s nighttime league (C5’s) which is new this year, are fighting hard against some very tough competition, enjoying playing together and truly turning this team into a fun Thursday evening of play. Once this season ends (3-19), they will begin the 40+ night season. If anyone is interested in playing, please e-mail captain Kristine Glein at Kristine@ monarchmarketing.com. The 4.0 USTA women’s day league will begin towards the end of March. Our men’s 4.0 league is in the middle of their season, battling some tough opponents. The “Open” USTA league will begin once the 4.0 season is complete. As you can see, lots to do at the CCC tennis facility. Just a final comment on our annual Holiday party that was held in December at Sharon Saleh’s home. As mentioned, we always ask that an unwrapped toy be brought to the luncheon to give to a charity. We collected 55 toys! The charity this year was the Metropolitan Minitries, and they were so very grateful. Thank you teammates!!! The CCC tennis community would like to welcome Allen Self, the new GM. We will see you “around”the club.

Good tennis everyone. Nola

A Warm Greetings to All from Emerald Greens Condo Resort! Well we’re right in the middle of our peak season and that means we’re keeping ourselves very busy here at the Resort! We’ve seen fantastic occupancy numbers so far and are looking forward to more of the same in March and April! Our guests have had nothing but great things to say about the amenities and people of Carrollwood Country Club which is always uplifting to hear. We can’t thank you enough for being so welcoming and inviting to our guests, it really helps make them feel like they’re a part of this fabulous Country Club we have here.

On that note, I am happy to announce that our Resort is currently ranked #1 (out of 157) on TripAdvisor.com for overall guest satisfaction. TripAdvisor takes into account several factors to create this ranking, but mostly it is based on the comments and scoring of our recent guests. We’ve enjoyed being ranked at the top for several years now which is a credit to both the hotel as well as the Club! I am happy to announce that we will be rolling out a special Corporate Rate promotion from May through December 2015 for area businesses. If the company you work for has a need for overnight accommodations, please contact me and I will be happy to go over the details with you. As you can see, we have quite a lot going on here at the Resort right now. We’d love to have you be a part of it, so please give us a call if there is ever anything we can do for you. Don’t forget that as a member of CCC you are entitled to specially discounted nightly rates for your guests! See you around the Club -Brent I can be reached at: 813-961-9400 & brent@stayandplaytampa.com
