Hello My Lovely CCC Members, Spring has sprung and it looks like we are finally enjoying some great weather. By the time you read this we will have had our WGA Member Guest, our Men’s Member Guest and we will be well into our planning for the Independence Day Celebration. We are definitely on the move and I hope you all are enjoying life at the country club. Membership has been booming the last few months. At the time of writing this article we have gained (37) new memberships over a 70 day period. This has all been due to your membership referrals and recent new relocations into the Carrollwood community. So I would like to say “Thank You” to everyone. I would like to thank our Carrollwood members, our Staff, and especially Chuck Cakmacki, our Golf Course Superintendent, for being a Wizard at growing grass. When we experience bad weather that creates poor grass growing conditions, we can depend on Chuck and his crew to pull us out of the rough, (no pun intended). Several golf courses in our surrounding area have also experienced some tough times but I find us to be on top of it all and in good shape. Let’s not forget our “Referral Program” and please continue to pass along to your friends and neighbors our current promotion. Also keep in mind, our current offer is for a limited time only and will change soon. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have someone in mind and I can be of assistance.

25% DISCOUNT ON ALL Membership Initiation Fees Receive Complimentary Cart Fee Vouchers ($756 value) with any Full Golf or Jr. Executive Membership Receive your First Month of Dues Complimentary with all Social or Tennis Memberships I look forward to seeing all of you around the club and please, never hesitate to stop by say Hello or reach out with any questions or concerns. We are all a part of the CCC Family!

BY SHAWN GORDON, DIRECTOR OF GOLF

Carrollwood Members,

Summer is here! Really seems like the year is flying by. We have just completed the Women’s and Men’s Member/Guest with great success and are now looking forward to the summer. The men’s Thursday Night Shootout is off and running with great participation to start the summer. If you have questions or would like to play, just notify the golf shop by 4:30 pm. every Thursday of play. Our Jr. Golf Camps will start in June and run thru August. The camps will run from 9 am to 11:30 am, Tuesday thru Friday, with a cost of $119 for members and $129 for nonmembers. All Golf Camps are structured for children ages 7-15. If you have any questions regarding our Jr. Golf Camps please feel free to contact us in the golf shop. As we move into summer we will start the aerification process. Like last year, we will do one nine at a time with recovery time before reopening thus giving us 18 holes to play at all times. During this process it will be important that you make tee times as we will only have 18 holes available. In the golf shop we are receiving new merchandise and equipment weekly. Let us help you with any of your golfing needs from clothing, equipment to private instruction. I would like to take a moment to introduce our new First Assistant Golf Professional, Michael Fream. Michael is a PGA member and comes to us from Streamsong Resort. Michael is also a PGA Professional Golf Management graduate from Florida State University. Michael will add enthusiasm and a high level of customer service experience to our staff. In closing, just a friendly reminder to wear your sunscreen and drink plenty of water as we move into the heat up of summer and remember “When it’s breezy, swing easy” and great golfing. See you around the club!

From the Golf Course Superintendent We have all been eagerly awaiting the arrival of warmer weather during the months of May and June. The weather we experienced during the winter months was less than ideal for growing turf. The good news is that the pine greens which were infected with a fungus called large patch has been stopped and is rapidly recovering. Thank you for your patience during this recovery time. Cyprus and Meadow greens were not affected by this pathogen and continue to do well.

organic soil level below 5% is the USGA recommendation for maintaining proper putting surfaces. What this has allowed us to do is adjust our procedures when aerifying the putting surfaces. This year our first aerification will be with half inch diameter tines and the following two aerifications will be with smaller 1/4 inch diameter tines. By making this change you can expect our putting surfaces to heal in much quicker and be very puttable within days using the ¼ inch tines. I am very confident that these modifications will not jeopardize the health or playability of the greens in the future.

We are scheduled to begin the summer aerification process to our putting greens on Monday May 9th. The first course to be aerified will be on the Cypress golf course. Each course will remain closed for two weeks while the greens recover. In addition to the putting surfaces at this time we will also be aerifying fairways, tees, and rough. Each nine will be on a two-week rotation for our aerifications.

As we move further into spring and summer I would like to thank you in advance for your understanding when we must restrict the carts to paths only due to the wet conditions. We will lift the restriction as soon as we can. As always my office door is open. If you should have any questions or concerns about the golf course please don’t hesitate to ask me. I look forward to seeing you on the golf course.

In an effort to minimize the down time to our membership during our summer aerifications, we are making adjustments to our procedures as compared to previous years. As a result of our aggressive aerifications over the past few years, recent soil tests have shown that we have decreased our organic soil levels down below 5%. Maintaining an

League Tennis News & Other Happenings BY NOLA SMITH, TENNIS REPRESENTATIVE It’s now May, so that must mean the pollen count is set pretty high, but so are our league matches which are coming to the end of the season for some, others still playing. Our 18+ 3.0 USTA Women’s league season, played on Mondays is now over, and our 40+ has started with a bang. Captain Gina Morgan has said that new players and team instruction on strategy, from our resident assistant pro, Gyorgyi, are contributing to the strength of this team and as a result the team is playing some very competitive matches. No “results” to report yet, however. Our Tuesday Suncoast team has finished their season. This league, consisting of 13 clubs, is very competitive, and while we struggled at times to get those wins, the team, as all Carrollwood teams do, continued to give their all; we had our share of injuries and for most of the second half, played without a regular #1 team. A big thank you to those subs who filled in for us at that position facing teams from other clubs that usually play a teaching pro at that position. Gyorgyi Zsiros – thank you for playing whenever your schedule allowed. By the time you read this article, we will have had our team year-end luncheon where we give out team gifts, captains gifts, and best record recognition. Thank you to Holly Charles (A team captain), and Beverly Glantz (B team captain) for all your help this year. Our best record award goes to Allison Archer & Sharyn Brookins, for an outstanding season! Wild challenges for Suncoast will begin on Monday, May 9th, and end Friday, June 1st; Intra-team challenges will follow. All information will be posted at the tennis courts as well. Two leagues on Wednesdays …. Our WOW (Women of Wednesday) league captained by Julie Renspie & Kathy Mudano, is still playing and are in the middle of the pack, and have been consistently good every season. Also on Wednesdays

is our ALOT team, (5 doubles teams), and are also currently in the middle of the standings, and are finishing up their season as well. Captain Lorraine Strobridge is announcing that their Wild Challenges will be accepted between May 1st and May 14th; all challenge matches must be completed no later than May 27th, with results called into the team captain no later than 6:00 pm on May 27th. All information will be posted at the tennis courts as well. The C5’s team (our 3.5 USTA Women’s league, played on Thursday evenings) just finished their 18+ season and had a great season – 4 wins/4 losses, right in the middle of the standings, and had several matches going the distance with third set tiebreakers. Captain Kristine Glein announced that the 40+ season has just begun and the team so far is 2 & 0 – what a great start! Our Men’s 4.0 18+ season finished in March; it was a tough season as they had new players and new doubles pairings to work through, but new partnerships and friendships were forged. The Over 40 season just started in April, and they are committed to continued improvement and success in representing CCC. Always in need of new members at any level! The men gather (between 12 to 20 players) every Wednesday night for some doubles play and it is proving to be a highlight of our Men’s tennis program. The tennis is great and it is rumored that the post tennis beverages are very cold. Don’t forget to stay on top of all of the Tennis News by reading the weekly emails sent out every Tuesday by the Club with upcoming events, etc. If you aren’t receiving these emails, contact Chris Cary so that you can be placed on the list to receive these emails.
