New Members! WELCOME

FROM THE DESK OF THE G.M. BY ANDY GREEN, GENERAL MANAGER

Greetings, I thought I would take this opportunity to inform you about the "State of our Club". We have just completed our first full year under the ConcertGolf umbrella and things couldn't be better! The club is performing very solidly. Our golf course has never been as healthy and in as good of shape as what it is right now. The work that Chuck and his crew have done to this property in the past two years is simply amazing. We've completed a full greens renovation and are now focusing on tee and fairway rehabilitation. This occurs by opening up the soil profile during the summer months to allow the turf to become healthier and remain in better condition during our cool season months. This is the first summer that Chuck has not had an ongoing greens renovation so he's been able to focus all of his efforts on the turf rehabilitation program. So far the results are very encouraging! We are also proud to have added Todd Browne to our Carrollwood CC family. Todd comes to us with an impressive F&B background and in his short time here has already made a major impact. I'm excited to see where Todd can take our operation going forward. With that said I look forward to seeing you around the club this summer!

Around the Clubhouse BY AARON STRAUB, DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS CONCERT GOLF PARTNERS

It has been a great pleasure working so closely at Carrollwood these past three months. I have had a tremendous sense of excitement, accomplishment, and achievement watching this department take some important steps towards providing you, the Members, with an exceptional Food and Beverage product. With that in mind I am tremendously thrilled to announce the appointment of Todd Browne to the position of Food and Beverage Director here at Carrollwood. I will still be on property working with Todd to continue the evolution of your Food and Beverage Department, but Todd had taken immediate and decisive steps to build in substantial ways upon my initial vision. Which is all the proof I need that a good choice was made in Todd. Todd comes to us with an impressive Resume, which includes previous Director and GM experience at Resorts, and high end Restaurants. I have been encouraged by both his passion, and dedication to the work at hand at Carrollwood. His mentorship of his Team, his care with you the Members, and his strategic vision for the direction of your Club have been highlights for me of his early weeks at Carrollwood. I know you will see him frequently!

The coming months will prove to be exciting times in Food and Beverage at Carrollwood. The Independence Day Celebration was a huge success! We have launched a weekly Member Mixer program every Wednesday evening with huge specials on Food and Drink as well as a weekly Manager Host. This has been a huge success and extremely fun! Each week has been an amazing example to me of what makes this Club so special. More fun is to come! we have also been thrilled with the addition of the Traditions Dinner Dance to our Calendar. Our first event, The Kentucky Derby Dance, had over 125 people in attendance enjoying Mint Julep’s, dancing, and fine Hats. We have also set our Summer Schedule of Wine Dinners. Our June 19th wine event with Michael Salzer from Excelsior Wines was also very successful. In addition we have rolled out a new Menu for the Grille, Turn Grille and the Oasis at the Pool. If any Member has a great idea for a fun Event, or feedback that they would like to provide on the Department, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Todd, or myself. Sincerely, Aaron Straub, Director of Operations Concert Golf Partners

Upcoming Golf Events BY DAREN JOHNSON, DIRECTOR OF GOLF

Carrollwood Members, The hot summer days are upon us! By now you know we are in the middle of our course aerification schedule. Our plan is to continue aerifying through the middle of September to get the greens and fairways in prime shape heading into peak season. Please remember during this period we will only have 18 holes open while one nine is closed for aerification. As we prepare for next season, here are some important dates to mark on your calendar for upcoming golf events:

Club manufactures are getting ready to introduce new clubs for next season. If you are in the market for a new driver now is a good time to buy as the manufactures are offering reduced pricing on all their clubs. You do not need to stop by the large retailers to receive these great prices‌you can buy right from the Carrollwood Golf Shop. We will continue to offer great specials in the golf shop as we prepare for our new product to start arriving in early September. Please stop by and check out our large shoe sale of Adidas and Puma golf shoes. My office door is always open if you should ever have any concerns or recommendations that can make our operation more successful and enjoyable for Carrollwood Country Club Members.

See you on the links and as always Happy Golfing!

Women's Golf Association BY CYNTHIA COHEN, CORRESPONDING SECRETARY In April, we were feeling groovy at the Member-Guest tournament which was chaired by Dianne Ferris. She and her committee put on a “far out” tournament with a video display of pictures of members and guests from the 1970’s, a disco man putting contest, and a host of other lively and fun “swinging 70’s” themed decorations and activities that delighted and amused all. As a special surprise, Freddy, CCC’s own favorite singer, serenaded us at lunch with several songs including that iconic disco tune “Staying Alive”. It was a wonderful tournament that we will not soon forget.

Mary Smith (member) and Caryn Jarvis (guest), and Cheryl Stoker won the putting contest.

The team of Liz Lagos, Rose Sanders, Robin Price and Anita Humphrey won the 2014 Member/Guest Tournament. The second place team was Sandie Peer/Jean Lyles and Vicki Schnurr/Mary Whitworth, the third place team was Ann Barclay/Margaret Franklin and Mary Smith/Cheryl Joseph, the fourth place team was Karen Bentley/Marilyn Farber and Bev Boas/Katie Sciortino, and the fifth place team was Marilyn Connors/Becky Mosca and Cheryl Stoker/Patti Yodice. In the individual contests, closest to the line was won by Julie Renspie (member) and Marilyn Farb (guest), closest to the pin was won by

Also in May, we ended the season on a high note at the President’s Tournament. Outgoing President Pat Riggs gave us all a San Francisco treat, with her “Golden Gate Classic” tournament won by incoming President Liz Lagos. A fittingly fun way to say goodbye to the 2013-2014 season, planned so well by our officers and committee chairs. Many thanks to President Pat Riggs, VicePresident Liz Lagos, Treasurer Kathy McGlone, Recording Secretary Sandie Peer, Corresponding Secretary Cynthia Cohen, Past President Nancy Williamson, Daily Play Chair Marita Lauer, and Major Tournaments

In May, the WGA Championships were held. Vicki Schnurr was the Low Gross Champion, followed by Suzie Patteson (2nd low gross), Young Hong (3rd low gross), and Marilyn Connors (4th low gross). Lori Ledbetter was the Low Net Champion, followed by Ann Barclay (2nd low net), Mary Smith and Bev Boas (tie for 3rd low net). Congratulations to our winners and to all the members who participated.

Chair Mary Smith. Also, special thanks to Mary Robinson who provided the wonderful photographs for the newsletter. Finally, thanks to CCC Director of Golf Daren Johnson and Director of Marketing Lauren Rosenzweig who provided assistance and support to the WGA all season. Looking ahead, we are pleased to announce the election of our officers for the 20142015 season. The President Liz Lagos, Vice President Sandie Peer, Treasurer Kathy McGlone, Recording Secretary Marilyn Connors and Corresponding Secretary Mary Robinson. We are fortunate to have such dedicated and capable women giving so freely of their time and talents to make the WGA a success. We all look forward to next year. We welcome new members with a 40 or less established handicap for Thursday and/or Saturday play. If you are interested in joining in the fun, please contact Kathy McGlone: her email address is kathythegolfer@aol.com and her cell number is 813-810-1829.

Here at the TAC we are having a great summer so far and hope everyone else is having a great summer as well! It’s about half way over now and we all know how warm it gets in Tampa during July and August, so what better way to cool off than join us at the pool for a refreshing swim or frozen drink from the Oasis Bar & Grille! Smoothies, Milkshakes or an ice cold beverage are just a few of the goodies offered for a quick cool down. The best and fastest way to cool down is by taking a plunge down our giant inflatable double sided waterslide. Don’t forget, every Saturday and Sunday, from now until the first weekend in August, we will have our giant water slide and our bounce house available at the pool from approximately 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. They are also available to rent for your private pool parties and more. At the meet, which featured teams from various parts of the USA, Zach not only and swam achieved best times in all of his events, he also moved up in place from his initial seed in seven of those events. Zach concluded the month by swimming in the 25th Annual CVST Blue/Green intersquad meet where he swam to best times in all four of his events dropping another thirty-eight seconds off of his previous lifetime bests for a total of three minutes and eight seconds dropped for the month. Way to go Zach and keep up the good work.

May 2014 - Savannah Rude (10) The CVST coaching staff has named Savannah Rude (10) as the May Swimmer of the Month. For the month, the ten year old Silver/Gold practice group member swam in three meets, showed consistent improvement, and conquered two new challenges. Savannah started off the month in the Dick Smith Invitational at the Carlouel Yacht Club, by swimming to best times in two out of her three events, the 50 yard Butterfly and 50 yard Freestyle. Five anxious days later at home in the Carrollwood Country Club Aquatic Center against the Tampa Yacht and Country Club, Savannah followed her outstanding performance by swimming her first 500 yard Freestyle and to best times in both her 50 yard Backstroke and 50 yard Breaststroke. Two weeks later at home against the Hunter’s Green Country Club, Savannah swam to another three out of four best times in her 50 yard Freestyle and 50 yard Breaststroke and after a confident week of practice gained by her first 500 yard experience, Savannah swam her first 1000 yard distance and satisfied her goal of swimming in the sixteen minute range by racing to a time of 16:57.49. Overall, Savannah dropped a total of 6.92 seconds, improved in all four of the competitive strokes and made an impressive debut in her middle distance and distance events. Way to go Savannah and keep up the good work.

5 Ways To Build Your Confidence and “Believe” BY CHRIS CARY, TENNIS DIRECTOR

The belief you can win trumps everything in tennis yet is so difficult to track and develop. A players fuel for confidence is composed of past wins, the success of others (If she can do it so can I) and the understanding that you are meeting your goals. Here are 5 tips to help build your confidence and “believe.” 1. Set Realistic Attainable Specific Goals. Have one very specific short term (one to two month) goal and one specific long term (one year) goal -- always. For the short term goal keep a written log and focus on skills like increasing your first serve percentage or decreasing negative talk. These should be things you have control over -- not like winning or losing a match where you don’t have full control. Your long term goal could be beating a certain opponent, making a certain team, etc... The more goals you set and meet, the more confidence you will have; and it’s fun! 2. Improve Your Preparation. Time permitting, your match day preparation should be in four stages: One -- When you get up from bed -- stretch take shadow swings, review goals etc..., Two -- 30 minutes before the match -- warm up on the court with a partner (if possible), do range of motion exercises, go over your specific strategy plan, Three -- the actual warm up on the court with your opponent and Four -- the first four games of the match. During these games, play high percentage, no frills tennis with focus on not making unforced errors. This will give you time to get your nerves and heart rate down, while getting a better look on how your opponent is playing that day. Your daily routine like your diet, sleep routine, practice should be very precise and specifically directed toward your goals. 3. Improve Your Fitness. When you are in better shape, you can handle the stress of competition much better. Knowing that you have worked out a couple times a week can give you the feeling that you deserve to win. Justin Henin contributed her rise to number in the ranking list to working specifically on fitness goals with fitness trainer Pat Etcheberry. 4. Play Against Players Below Your Own Level. “What?” (you say) Shouldn’t I always play against players better than me to improve? No, this is one of the biggest mistakes made in tennis. Players are usually reluctant to change anything if it makes them lose. Playing against someone you know you can defeat, allows you to try new things like go for more topspin backhands or to try that underspin backhand your not comfortable with etc... Past Carrollwood tennis professional, Gary Needleman, went from total beginner to 4.5 player in less than two years by doing two things: 1. playing with anyone regardless of their level and 2. doing exactly what his

TENNIS EVENTS & ACTIVITIES JULY 4th - from 9:30 to 11:30 P.M. Tennis Revolution Doubles Competition coach told him to do. 5. Have a Healthy View Of Mistakes and Loses. “The road to being a champion is paved with a 1000 loses.” Bill Tilden Don’t let losses bully you. The fear of losing will deter improvement and kill your confidence. After a loss, try to take one or two things from that player. If they beat you because they were able to get more balls in play, for example, then getting more balls in play becomes one of your your short term goals. After losing three times in a row to Bobby Riggs, the great Jack Kramer told Vic Braden -- “don’t worry kid I’ve got him just where I want him.” Jack was making observations, plans and adjustments in those three lost matches and beat Bobbie the next 19 matches in a row!” Treat a loss like a learning experience or a road to future successes and this will help your confidence.

League Tennis News & Other Happenings BY NOLA SMITH, TENNIS REPRESENTATIVE / CAPTAIN / SUNCOAST LEAGUE

Tennis Leagues - Our 3.5 USTA team had a tough season this year, but captain Janet Fox is always looking to improve the team and seeking out more players. Our 4.0 USTA team still has a match or two to finish, but captain, Terry Rizzo reports that they have had a very competitive season this year, and as important, had fun playing and socializing. The Suncoast Ladies Tennis League once again finished in the middle of the pack overall - 14 clubs each of whom field 14 doubles teams so competition is stiff. The season begins again in the fall, and we have strenghtened our whole team so we are looking for some good results. The ALOT league, played on Wednesdays, finished its first season and are now in the middle of challenges. We are proud to announce that our 3.0 USTA team came in second this year. This is an accomplishment to be proud of as captain Sharon Saleh and her teammates have worked hard to achieve this position. First place is in their sights. Also, for the second year in a row, captain Carol Cotney reports that our Interbay team, played on Wednesdays, finished third and our tennis courts are now showcasing two banners.

CCC Men's tennis - The 4.0 USTA Men's Over 40 team finished its season on June 7th. It's been a tough season but the effort and enthusiasm on everyone's part has been outstanding. We are taking the summer off from competition but will be gearing up for the Combo Leagues in the fall. Also, a 7.5 Men's Combo team is a possibility for the fall, something that has not happened previously at CCC. Captain Tom Wise hopes they can attract some new blood to the courts and compete at that level as well. Summer is never quiet at our courts. Team Tennis begins on Monday evenings, our 4th of July tennis revolution will be held on July 4th, and all the leagues continue to practice, and take lessons.

The Morning Star tournament was held at CCC in May, and had 113 players participating. This continues to be one of the most popular tournaments in our area, and it is an honor to be the home for this wonderful event.

In the meantime, good tennis everyone. Nola
