FROM THE DESK OF THE G.M. BY ANDY GREEN, GENERAL MANAGER

Dr. and Mrs. Jorge Melendez Mr. and Mrs. Tye Swenson

As I write this newsletter article I'm amazed that our 3rd Independence Day Celebration Event is right around the corner! Our team in charge of planning this event has been working hard to make this years event an even bigger success. I wanted to make sure to thank our more than 1000 Members as well as the entire Carrollwood Village Community for their support in bringing this tradition back .

Mr. and Mrs. Michael Swenson

Last year we had over 3700 Members, Guests and Village residents attend this celebration. The sense of community & club pride was infectious! I look forward to seeing all of you on June 28th. As many of you know the club has been extremely busy the past few months. With that said our slower time is just ahead so please take note of our updated operating hours. We will run these "Summer Hours" through the month of August. We have also added some new features in the F&B department, which I hope will be to your liking.

Mr. and Mrs. John Castro

Thanks again for your support and we'll see you around the club!

Around the Clubhouse BY AARON STRAUB, DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS CONCERT GOLF PARTNERS

It is with a wonderful sense of excitement that I would like to announce that I, my girlfriend Jenn, and my amazing daughter Baby Bea have moved to Tampa so that I will be able to take an immediate hands on role at the Club. I will be focusing on Food and Beverage, and I will always welcome any and all constructive feedback you would care to share with me. I have had the opportunity to meet, and interact with many of you these last couple of weeks, and I look forward to many more opportunities in the months ahead. From my first visit to your Club over a year ago I have developed a deep appreciation of the community, camaraderie, and loyalty this facility has. Carrollwood has the most diverse Membership of all our Clubs and providing exceptional food, service, and value has at times proved to be challenging. With that in mind, we at Concert Golf came to the decision that basing me at Carrollwood to focus directly on the Food and Beverage would be in keeping with our commitment to you, the Members. We feel that Carrollwood is a deserved priority in our Operation, and my relocation is a commitment to that fact. I plan to focus on continuity, but also fun. I want to create an environment that is about the Future of the Club, not the past. New Events will be on offer, a new Grill Menu will be launched, and ongoing training will continue. I was deeply impressed by your Food and Beverage Team. They are exceptional, hardworking, and care about the Members more deeply than I have ever seen in my Career. Therefore, my goal is to provide some support and structure to allow that exceptionalism to shine through. Sincerely, Aaron Straub, Director of Operations Concert Golf Partners

Women's Golf Association

BY CYNTHIA COHEN, CORRESPONDING SECRETARY

Many of our recent golf outings have been stymied by the weather. We’ve had so many rainouts, we’ve considered making “Stormy Weather” the official WGA song. Unfortunately, this included our Thursday Play Day tournament fundraiser for The First Tee, chaired by Shirley Trout. Even though we couldn’t play golf, 18-holers and 9-holers enjoyed lunch together. Luckily, we had beautiful weather on our Saturday Play Day, and thirteen WGA members were able to play in The First Tee event. Nancy Williamson and Kathy McGlone organized the Saturday event. Winners were Sandie Peer (first), Bev Boas (second), Marilyn Connors (third), Elaine Fess (closest to the pin) and Rosa Quintela (closest to the line). Congratulations to everyone who participated and to all those who donated to The First Tee. Shirley delivered $735 in cash and checks, plus additional donations of equipment, to The First Tee at Rogers Park. Even with our bouts of bad weather, we’ve had a lot of fun these past months. One recent special moment was the excitement of Vicki Schnurr’s eagle chip-in on Meadow #5. Congratulations to Vicki! Our Saturday play has been growing and it has been a wonderful addition to the activities of the WGA. We warmly invite any women golf members with an established 18-hole handicap of 40 or less to join the WGA. If you can’t play on our Thursday Play Day, perhaps our Saturday Play Day would work for you. If you are interested in joining the WGA, contact Kathy McGlone: her email address is kathythegolfer@aol.com and her cell number is 813-810-1829. Dianne Ferris, chair of the WGA Member-Guest tournament, and her committee members Debbie Hayden, Kathy McGlone, Marita Lauer, Pat Riggs, and Mary Smith have worked very hard creating “The Swinging 70’s”-themed tournament planned for April 10th. Due to publication deadlines, pictures and news from this very special event will be published in the next newsletter. Past President Nancy Williamson chaired the Nominating Committee with Marilyn Connors, Anne Hart, Debbie Hayden and Cynthia Cohen as members. They have proposed the following slate of officers for the 2014-2015 season:

President - Liz Lagos Vice President - Sandie Peer Treasurer - Kathy McGlone Recording Secretary - Marilyn Connors Corresponding Secretary - Mary Robinson The election will be held at the first General Meeting in May. Not much time remains in our 2013-2014 season. Our season-ending events are: May 3-10 • WGA Championships (will include Thursday and Saturday play dates) May 22 • Season Finale: President’s Tournament

Four Secrets To Moving Well On Clay BY CHRIS CARY, TENNIS DIRECTOR

Many players spend a life-time on clay yet continue to move as if they were playing on a hard court. This common mistake can prevent them from reaching their full potential on this fun and challenging surface. These players are easy to spot. They fight the sliding process, rarely widen their stance, move with their upper body first (instead of their feet) and never fully accept this important fact -- clay courts are by design a slippery surface. Seen even at high level tournaments, these players are the ones slipping, falling and complaining while their clay court counter parts move faster and more efficiently on the same surface. What do clay courters know that hard court players don't?

THEY KNOW THESE FOUR CLAY COURT SECRETS AND DO THE FOLLOWING: 1.They aggressively and confidently commit to the slide preventing inefficient and wasteful “safety steps after the hit. Fighting the sliding process is the problem. The extra steps taken after the hit make a player use more energy and time making him tired, slow, over cautious and even miserable. 2. They widen their stance to keep from falling after the slide. This gives them confidence and security. Players failing to do this will often slip and complain that the court is too slippery. 3. They move their feet first -- not their head . Hard court players often move with their upper body first causing their feet to go out from under them during the recovery step. This mistake is very noticeable when they try to retrieve a wide ball. Players with soccer backgrounds like CCC member Fernando Gonzalez move their feet first, avoiding this common problem. Watching Fernando play a hard courter his same level -- on clay -- you can easily see the difference. It is almost comical. One moves quickly with ease while the other flips and flops around like a fish out of water. Same court, same conditions, same playing level, different results. 4. They rarely complain about slippery court conditions by accepting the fact that clay court conditions change daily and sometimes hourly with the weather and temperature. They know its their responsibility to adjust when clay court conditions change and refuse to blame anyone but themselves when they slip or even fall.

BY COMMITTING TO THE SLIDE, WIDENING YOUR STANCE, MOVING YOUR FEET FIRST AND ACCEPTING THE FACT THAT CLAY COURTS ARE MORE SLIPPERY THAN HARD COURTS, YOU WILL BE MOVING FASTER, SAFER AND MORE EFFICIENTLY RIGHT AWAY! ENJOY YOUR NEW CLAY COURT ADVANTAGE.

League Tennis News & Other Happenings BY NOLA SMITH, TENNIS REPRESENTATIVE / CAPTAIN / SUNCOAST LEAGUE

Our Tuesday Suncoast and Wednesday Interbay and ALOT Leagues are just winding down their seasons. Rain has interrupted several matches, so we don't have final standings to report. Suncoast continues to stay in the middle of the group (out of 14 clubs), ALOT is our newest league and continues to play some strong tennis, and our Interbay League is still staying around the top of the League, currently in third place. Our 3.0 USTA women's league did participate in the 18 and over and finished 4th out of 8 teams - this group, captained by Sharon Saleh, just continues to improve! The 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0 women's 40 & over started their matches in April as well as the Men's team 40 & over. We will have some final standings to report by the time the next newsletter is printed! We would like to extend our heartfelt sympathy to Bill Lynn and his family. Our dear friend and long time tennis teammate, Patty Lynn, passed away in March. Patty (and her long time partner, Mary Carow) played in our Women's Leagues for over 18 years. She was a bright light in our tennis family and touched so many of our lives in such a positive way. She will be missed."

In the meantime, good tennis everyone. Nola
