Finally the cooler weather is here! It couldn’t come at a better time for us as we enter into a very busy time of year. We have many great events planned for the next few months including our “Rat Pack” dinner dance, Holiday Shopping, Thanksgiving, Brunch with Santa & New Year’s Eve. Our Food & Beverage team is committed to executing these spectacular events for your enjoyment. I’d especially like to recognize Stephanie Laine our Banquet Manager. She is responsible for the room decor which to date has exceeded our wildest expectations. The most recent was our Monster Mash dinner dance in which the room decor was simply amazing. We hope to see you at one of these events! I’m also happy to report that the summer golf course aerification process is fully complete and we couldn’t be happier with the results. Not only is the course in excellent condition as we move into our peak season but it’s also draining and recovering much quicker than years previous. Thanks to Chuck Cakmacki and his team for all their hard work! Concert Golf is growing and more clubs are on the horizon. Last month we acquired our 8th club, Sand Creek Country Club which is located in Chesterton Indiana (about an hour and a half southeast of Chicago). This 27 hole country club is a welcome addition to the Concert Golf family. If you happen to be heading to an area that one of our clubs is located we encourage you to check out these great facilities. Please contact Lauren or Daren to make arrangements.

Food & Beverage news
Around the Clubhouse TODD BROWNE, FOOD & BEVERAGE DIRECTOR
I would like to take this opportunity to share with you some very exciting news. When I had the privilege of becoming the food and beverage director and getting to know the members, several of you presented me with suggestions that you would like to see in your clubhouse. Some of these suggestions included more variety, healthier options, gluten free products, as well as suggesting that simple pleasures such as adding bacon or cheese to a sandwich be included in the menu price. I am very happy to share with you a new menu that has come to fruition based on the suggestions that you, the members, have made. Our new menu includes all that you have been craving, plus more! Some of the new menu items that we have included for your indulgence are Fish Taco’s, which have been very popular, a classic Wedge Salad with a twist, Chicken Artichoke Flatbread, Firecracker Shrimp and Grilled Lettuce Wraps which is out of this world and complemented very nicely with a glass of Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling. In addition to the phenomenal menu items, I am pleased to share with you that we also implemented a new wine list with 20 new wines for your enjoyment. I’m pleased to report, as I am sure you will be thrilled to hear, that we have listened to your concerns regarding pricing on our wines and have lowered the cost to you.
There’s even more great news...We now have a drink list featuring our signature drink called the Triple C, (Titos’s handmade vodka, iced tea, pineapple and orange juice, stirred never shaken, which is refreshing and is only $5.00) You will find all your favorites here from The Starter (bloody mary with a kick), to the Swenney. Yes, its named after our club member Mr. Swenson. This cold delight is Absolut vodka, club soda and a splash of cran for only $6.00. Bucket pricing has also been adjusted and is now an unbelievable $15.00 for 5 beers, that’s a savings of $5 per bucket!! Thank the tennis committee for that one. We have lowered all the liquor pricing 50 cents to a dollar and drastically lowered all the turn grille pricing on all adult beverages (example: Crown Royal was $9.55 now its $8.00) The turn grille now offers a new product, the hamburger dog. What’s this you ask? This is the best of both worlds. A hamburger with cheese inside but its the size of a hotdog. Easy to carry and mouth watering to taste. Our Happy Hour program is sure to entice, It includes ½ priced Wells, Drafts, and House Wines as well as $1 off all Call Brands. an example: a normal Well Vodka would be $4.50 but during happy hour for you, its been lowered to $2.25 House wines during happy hour are available
for only $3 and your domestic draft beer is only $1.70, that’s less expensive then the all day special we run on Bud Select which is only $2.33 Wednesday nights we offer our Wine Down Wednesdays Italian Night. This chef attended all you can eat pasta station is all of your favorite pasta right in front of you with fresh local ingredients, chicken, meatballs, fresh vegetables, salad, garlic bread and a complimentary glass of wine for only $13.95 Kids eat for ½ off and you can refill your wine for only $3.00 all night. Thursday’s and Fridays we will offer dinner specials and Friday nights we have live music on the patio from 7 to 9. Sundays we serve breakfast and lunch all day and for the sports fans, there is no place better to watch your favorite games. We have direct TV, $10 draft beer pitcher specials, 50 cents wings and $5 cheese nachos. As I hope you can see, we truly value your feedback and hope you will see this with the many changes taking place. Many of you have voiced your opinions and we have taken those suggestions into consideration. We are very proud of the new menu and hope that you will come back to the club to experience the great service and fantastic food we have to offer!

Women's Golf Association BY MARY ROBINSON, CORRESPONDING SECRETARY Is there a fall breeze out there? Can we actually play 18 holes and not be drenched by rain or our own bodies!? Our WGA Sip and Socialize on September 4th was a great hit as always and we are proud to welcome our new members as well as one old member; Irene Lukasik! The WGA would like to honor our first place winners for the Summer Nassau Games! Congratulations to Suzie Patteson, Sandy Peer, Nancy Pulliam, Julie Renspie, Kathy McGlone, Anne Hart, Diane Ferris, Marilyn Connors, Anita Humphrey, Ann Barclay, Cheryl Stoker and Young Hong. Time to sing “We are the Champions!” The WGA Opening Day hit the jackpot “ Vegas Style” on September 11th. Great job Bev Boas and Nancy Pulliam for pulling it all together. The”Vegas” winning team was Young Hong, Ann Barclay, Mary Smith and Tamara Shumate-Brown with a team score of 68. Liz Largos got the closest to the pin on Pine 8. Saturday’s opening day was a low net, low gross game. The winners of cash and a bottle of wine were low gross Suzie Patteson 82, Sandie Peer 88, low net Bev Boas 72 and Cheryl Stoker 74, great job ladies. Marilyn Connors is running the ringer board this year so be sure to familiarize yourself with the Ringer Board rules that were sent out to all of us via e-mail. At the close of our season in May 2015 we have $130.00 in total payout for the winners. On October 2nd we had the first General Board Meeting for the 2014-1015 season. There was a discussion about the rule that the handicap of members must be at 40. Kathy McGlone has sent an email to members with handicaps above 40 explaining that as soon as their handicap reaches 40 they may join. Also
at our general meeting a question came up regarding Match Play. "If one person can't play within the allotted time period are both eliminated?" Absolutely not! The one who is opened to playing and will be flexible and willing to compromise, is still in the competition. The one who can't play (chooses to do something else on the dates of the entire round) will give the other player a bye. That player will still be in and will continue on the ladder. If you still need a WGA yearbook contact Kathy McGlone kathythegolfer@aol. com or call/text her on her cell, 812-8101829. As a reminder the General Board Meetings take place on the first Thursday of each month. Look out for orange balls as our next event is the Halloween Luncheon scheduled for October 30th. It will be a scary, fun and challenging game of golf with a terrific luncheon to follow. Costumes are welcomed! Pictures to follow…. Before you know it the holidays will be upon us and we do celebrate WGA style. Mark your calendars for the annual Holiday Luncheon scheduled for December 11th.
And remember….
Golf combines two favorite American pastimes: taking long walks and hitting things with a stick. – P.J. O’Rourke

Tennis Tip by Tennis Director, Chris Cary BY CHRIS CARY, TENNIS DIRECTOR
Improve Your Tennis by Putting Your $$$ Where The Myelin Is “Put your money where?” Myelin. Its the stuff your brain produces in order to acquire skill. Tiger Woods? Lots of myelin. Andre Agassi? Mozart? Gretsky? Tons of myelin! Talent, researches tell us, is not born -- it’s grown; and it’s grown at its fastest rate by executing slow, deliberate movements over and over and over and over. The brain needs repetition and it needs it slow. Examples of rapid myelin growth tennis activities are: shadow swinging (without a ball), drop hitting from a basket, hitting off a stationary object like a cone, live ball drills with a purpose and repetitive combination points. These type of exercises helped past Carrollwood Country Club Tennis Juniors Connor Smith, Austin Krajicek, Ryler DeHeart and Stephen Goldman land Division 1 college scholarships. Stephen just entered his first year at James Madison University this year. Connor, Austin and Ryler experienced tennis on the pro tour after college. The system of learning and improving they shared in their developing years involved hours of slow, deliberate movement applied with hours of repetition.

Low rep tennis activities such as line drills, rallying without a goal or target, cardio work-outs and match play are far more entertaining, yet provide less reps and much slower myelin growth -- less improvement. Too often, players mistake activity with learning. While match play is vital to becoming a great tennis player, it typically provides an extremely low amount of hits -- too little for the brain to produce any significant amount of myelin (skill). An average two hour singles match, for example, allows for only around 25 minutes of hitting tennis balls (30% of the time). The majority of the time in a match is spent picking up balls, changing sides, etc... Doubles provides even less hitting as there are four people sharing only one ball. A player playing only doubles matches for two hours at two times a week is actually only getting around 26 hours a year! The point is continue to play matches, but find a way to get more reps in. “It takes 10,000 hours to be a great tennis player.” Arthur Ashe
Dominic Cotrone, Everth Dzib, Chris Redhead, Olaya Garrido-Rivas, Vera Bessonova

WEDNESDAYS It will be November by the time you all are reading this newsletter, and we hope by then the rain will have stopped, the temperature is no longer hovering around 90 degrees, and tennis is being played on a regular basis, and we are not avoiding rain drops! We started our season with a Round Robin & Luncheon in August and celebrated the "summer" birthdays as well. Now, our Ladies 6.5 Combo (Mondays), Suncoast (Tuesdays), Interbay & ALOT (Wednesdays) and our (new) Men's 8.5 Combo Team (Saturdays) are getting into their regular seasons and playing some competitive matches. Way too early to report standings, but we are so fortunate to be able to play against so many clubs - as far away as Apollo Beach ,Brandon, South St. Pete, Plant City, south Tampa, New Tampa, and our neighbors to the North. League tennis at its finest! We are so happy to have Gyorgyi Zsiros, our new Assistant Tennis Pro, as a part of our tennis family. Please come out and say hello whenever you can. Lots of activities always going on, and on a regular basis, we have our First Friday Tennis Socials, with fun tennis, food, drink and music, so make your way to the tennis courts on the First Friday of every month.
In the meantime, good tennis everyone. Nola
