Country Club at Woodmore Newsletter April 2014

Page 1

Greetings everyone! As many of you know I am new to the state of Maryland. I arrived at The Country Club at Woodmore from Orlando, Florida November 1st, 2013 and have been cold almost every day since my arrival. I am excited about the upcoming 2014 season and looking forward to the nice weather and seeing all of you at the country club. I would like to take this opportunity to inform you of all the things we have accomplished over the winter season.

Clubhouse and Grounds

• During the month of January when the clubhouse was closed we installed a new point of sale system throughout all departments. As some of you are aware we have experienced some bugs in the new system but have currently worked through most of the problems and are ready for the busy times ahead. • In addition we removed the stone from the interior columns that separated the banquet room and the small dining room. This has opened up the area and created a much larger banquet room allowing us to increase our maximum seating from approximately 150 to 200 people. • We have added a paver walkway from the outside patio, around the clubhouse and down to the gazebo. This walkway includestwo platforms with steps and additional landscaping which has greatly improved our appearance and facility for outside weddings. • We finalized our banquet room and clubhouse renovations by purchasing 200 new Chiavari chairs to be used for all clubhouse events located in the banquet room. • We have completely renovated the shoe shine area located behind the counter in the men’s locker room installing a new wash basin, new counter top, and shelving.

Swimming Pool Complex

Many of you may not be aware of the renovations that have taken place at the swimming pool. The small adult pool that was located at the lower section of the pool complex was slowly sliding down the hill and breaking away from the main pool causing leaks within the small pool and cracks on the pool deck between the main pool and the small adult pool. We have filled in the lower level

small pool and have plans to nicely landscape and create a comfortable seating area which will continue to be an area for adults only.

Management Staff

In addition to our improvements to the grounds and clubhouse we have continued to improve our management team by welcoming some new faces to our management staff. • Mr. Jason Walton joined our team as our new Comptroller and comes to us from Sulgrave Club in Washington D.C. • Mr. Steve Watters joined our team on February 1, 2014 as our new Membership Director. Steve comes to us from the PGA Village in Port St. Lucie, Florida. • Mr. Ray Chen joined our team December 1, 2013 from The Residences at Thomas Circle in Washington D.C. where he served as the Executive Chef. • Mr. Kennard Callender has joined us as our new Tennis Director. Mr. Callender comes to us from The Tennis Center of College Park.

We have worked very hard over the winter season to continue to improve every aspect of the country club. There are some additional things we are working on to improve our service to the membership and I look forward to announcing them to you in the near future. On behalf of the staff at The Country Club at Woodmore we are looking forward to serving you for the remainder of the 2014 year. Respectfully Yours; Allen Self General Manager

Woodmore Family

I come to the Country Club at Woodmore from the PGA Golf Club in Port St Lucie Florida and my passion for golf began as a child growing up in North Carolina. Even though I have been on property for only six weeks and our course has been covered with snow, I can tell Woodmore is a special place. As we continue to build the Membership at the Country Club at Woodmore every Club Member can be an integral part. I look forward to meeting all of you as our season begins. We all know that membership is the lifeblood of all clubs and there is no one better to determine who becomes a part of our extended Woodmore Club family than our existing members and that is you! As a member it is your privilege to nominate members to the Country Club at Woodmore. Last year the Sponsor Society was created to recognize our Members who sponsored the most new golf memberships with a choice of prizes, which included a trip to our sister club in Amelia Island, Florida. As spring is approaching The Country Club at Woodmore is actively seeking new members. We would like to personally invite you to sponsor at least one new member during the year. Currently for a limited number of memberships we are waiving the first three months of dues of any prospective member that is referred. The referring member will also receive the equivalent of the first month’s dues in the form of a gift certificate to be used at the club. Please be aware that it is a limited number of memberships that will receive this offer and we are quickly approaching our goal for this program. Steve Watters, Membership Director

Club Fitting - If you are a golf enthusiast, then it is safe to assume that you understand the importance of having your very own set of clubs that fit your style of play. In choosing which clubs to include in your set of clubs, you need to have a clear understanding of how important the role of golf club fitting is. Golf club fitting are simply factors that you have to consider when choosing golf equipment. These factors include the weight, length, and grip size of the clubs. Each of these factors need to be just right for your physique to ensure that you are comfortable using the clubs during a game. The first thing that you have to consider when it comes to golf club fitting is the grip size. You must be able to find the right grip when holding the club to eliminate common blunders like slicing or hooking the ball at inappropriate times. Moreover, having a good grip will ensure that you are comfortable when playing the game, allowing you strike the ball at just the right angles. The next important thing to consider when talking about golf club fitting is the length of the clubs. To ensure that you get to obtain the right posture to strike a ball correctly, the club you are using must be in accordance with your height and arm length. The right club length will increase your chances of making a better swing. One other aspect that you have to consider in golf club fittings is the flex of the club’s shaft. A shaft’s flex vary from stiff, regular, and extra stiff to ladies and senior. Each of these flexes are appropriate for a unique style of play. Choosing the wrong flex can have a negative impact on your swing. Respectfully Submitted, John Kauzlarich Club Professional

From The Accounting Desk We have recently upgraded our point of sale and accounting software in January. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this transition. While we know that the new software will prove to be beneficial in a number of ways, it has not come without a few growing pains. Those of you who utilize the online statements application on our website may have noticed that account information has not been updated for a few months. Our previous software provider experienced a great deal of technical difficulties in providing this service. However, our website support team has ensured us that our new software provider will be able to provide this information in a much more timely and accurate manner once this job is completed. We would like to remind you that the billing for the golf services package has changed for 2014. The price is the same as in years past, but all fees have been combined into one annual charge for convenience. The golf services package includes the mill river plan, unlimited range use, handicap tracking fee, bag storage, and junior golf development. Please note that your account can be paid by check or credit card. Your credit card can be charged automatically each month through a
