EVENTS

News

From the Department of Banquets and Catering I am a seasoned event professional with over 10 years of experience in the event industry. My passion for events began when I helped a friend plan her destination wedding in the West Indies. It was a lot of work but also a lot of fun. The marriage didn’t last, but my love for “All Things Wedding” and this industry has lasted through the years. After graduating from Howard University I decided to pursue a career in events management. From there my career took off and I have not looked back since. I have had the privilege to plan events for everyone from high profile celebrities to some of Washington’s top dignitaries. My career has provided me with the opportunity to plan all types of events. I’ve planned album release parties, congressional receptions, tradeshows, and conferences. A few years ago, I planned a breast cancer awareness event in conjunction with the Links organization and discovered this hidden treasure called the Country Club at Woodmore. During our first site visit I fell in love with this venue. Never did I imagine that two short years later a position would open up that would allow me to become part of the great team that I experienced at the country club. I jumped at the opportunity and I’m very excited to be joining the team as the new Director of Banquets and Catering. I’m excited to get to know each and every one of you and assist you with all of your event planning needs. I have a lot of great ideas in store and cannot wait to share my passion with you. Thanks, Nikki

Golf Fitness Mac James’

Welcome to the official season of golf! Future of Fitness will be sending out fitness tips to help you physically prepare for this upcoming season. The 1st tip is something we hear all of the time; improve flexibility, improve your game. The key to improving your flexibility is weight loss. Losing weight is one of the hardest things for everyone to do. It is also one of the things 90% of us set off trying to do every year. 3 Things To Help You Start Weight Loss: 1) Drink more water. Drink 1/2 of your body weight in ounces of water daily. 2) Eat small meals every 2 to 3 hours throughout the day. 3) Cut out refined sugar (Soda, table sugar, and sweets) for 14 days. At Future of Fitness, we are have a nutritional program, Diet Free Life University which allows you to eat the things you like to eat and lose weight. We use this system to teach you consumption frequency, portion control and food combinationsfor maximum fat burning. If you’re ready to learn how to live without dieting again this is the program for you. Feel free to email questions about about Fitness or Nutrition and our Diet Free Life University program to mjamesfof@gmail.com.

GREEN

News

Greetings from the Green Department! Hopefully the cold weather is behind us and we can start focusing on golf course preparation instead of snow removal. Due to the late snow this year, we are having to play a catch up on the golf course. Projects that are normally done in late February and early March have been pushed been several weeks. As you are playing over the next few weeks, you will notice our staff busy aerifying fairways, mulching, taking care of stumps, and repairing bunkers from the winter in addition to preparing the golf course for daily play. These are all tasks that we normally would have completed by Mid-March. I want to remind everyone that our spring greens aerification is coming up on April 6th and 7th. Even with an early application of fertilizer to boost plant growth, the time it takes for the greens to recover in April is largely dictated by the weather. Let’s cross our fingers and hope mother nature cooperates with us!

Finally, as we head in to the season, I would like to ask for the membership’s help in maintaining the golf course by observing basic gold etiquette. Please remember to repair your divots in the fairways, either by replacing the divot or filling it with sand. Use whatever method you feel comfortable with—the most important thing to remember when repairing a divot is to leave a level lie for those playing after you. Please repair your ball marks on greens and if you have time, take the opportunity to repair someone else’s that may have been overlooked. The ball mark is properly repaired when you would feel comfortable putting over it. Thank you in advance and I look forward to seeing everyone at the Club. For the most up to date information about the golf course operation, please follow us on twitter @CCWoodmore or visit our blog at www.ccwoodmoregcm.com. Fairways and Greens, Brandon Collins, Golf Course Superintendent
