AFFILIATED Greetings Woodmore Members; What a fantastic Summer, it has been, at The Country Club at Woodmore!! I hope that everyone has had some time to relax, possibly take a vacation (or two) and enjoy some time with family and friends. It’s hard to believe, that in a short few weeks, the little ones return to school and before you know it, Fall will be here. If you’re like me, and not ready, to wave “goodbye” to Summer 2017, there are still many opportunities to take part, in some “fun in the sun” before you pack away your flip flops. If you haven’t had a chance to attend any of our new club social events, it’s not too late. Don’t forget to mark your calendars, for CCW’s traditional end of Summer, Labor Day Celebration. This year we’ve decided to close out our Summer Concert Series the same evening, making this day a true extravaganza. To our CCW parents; if you still want to sign up, your children for our new Summer Camp, it’s not too late. We offer a full day of activities that kids of all age groups truly enjoy. As we reach the “peak” of our traditional Mid Atlantic Summer, the entire Grounds Department team’s focus is to continue to provide, our membership, with an impeccable golf course, while keeping the health and condition of the turf, as the upmost priority. Corey Landon, Director of Grounds, has done a fantastic job communicating agronomical practices and is in full preparation for our Club’s showcase event, of the year; Men’s Invitational hosted October 12th – 14th. This is going to be a tournament, that will be talked about for years to come, so make sure you sign up soon. I would like to welcome Justin Thompson, F&B Service Manager to our CCW team. Justin joins us with a wealth of hospitality knowledge coupled with a passion for service and excellence. I am excited for Justin to work closely with the food and beverage team, providing continuous training and ultimately continue to increase our service levels. See you at the Club! Mary

MEMBERSHIP News

NEW MEMBERS Let’s give a warm welcome to our new members:

From the Director of Membership Hello All, As we start moving into the latter part of the year I want to reintroduce our Ambassador Program. This program is a way for all of our members to gain credit on their accounts. It is also a way to bring friends and family into the Country Club to be a part of our family here. We have had awesome participation so far this year and I would love to keep that rolling for the rest of the year. No one has made it to 20 points yet, but a couple of you guys are getting close to the prize of a year of free dues. At the very least the winner receives a five day trip to the Ritz-Carlton down in Amelia Island. We have a lot in store for the rest of this year, so get excited and shoot for those complimentary dues in 2018. FOOD & BEVERAGE

News

Hello Country Club at Woodmore Family, I would like to take this opportunity to formally introduce myself to the great members of this club. I have had the distinct pleasure of serving as your new Food and Beverage Service Manager for a little over three weeks now. I have enjoyed the warm welcomes and great conversations that we have shared with one another, and I do hope that I will have the opportunity to meet all of you some day. Every day I come to work I strive to make a difference in the life of our members. I truly have a staunch passion for providing a world class customer service experience for our many members and guests here at our magnificent Country Club. Please know that your membership and participation here at Woodmore is greatly valued and appreciated. We thank you for trusting us to provide you with the upmost care, respect and dignity. I know that we have had some rough patches in the past but I assure you that we as a Country Club are taking a hard look at our customer service levels and creating strong procedures and guidelines that will enable us to provide the most long lasting memorable experiences for you. My job enables me to have the distinct ability to touch just about every operation of this establishment, and I am quickly but surely getting fully acclimated with the Country Club at Woodmore and its many facets. I thank you for your patience and giving me the great honor to provide you with great hospitality. Lastly, I would like to share a quote with you by the great Mahatma Ghandi. I truly strive to instill this in my head and engrain this in the fabrics of service in all departments here at our illustrious Country Club. “A customer is the most important visitor on our premises. He is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him. He is not an interruption of our work. He is the purpose of it. He is not an outsider of our business. He is part of it. We are not doing him a favor by serving him. He is doing us a favor by giving us the opportunity to do so.”Mahatma Ghandi Thank you for your membership. I am truly ecstatic about what lies ahead for this magnificent Club and it’s diverse, loyal and passionate members. Please don’t ever hesitate to reach out to me with and concerns, suggestions or comments. I can be reached by email at jthompson@ccwoodmore.com or by phone at 301-249-6100. Sincerely, Justin M. Thompson, CHG Food and Beverage Service Manager at The Country Club at Woodmore.

GOLF

News

to As many of you well know, it has been a hot one this summer season and we look forward to when the temperatures drop back down to where we would like them. When this happens, we ramp back up with activity within the golfing events. In regards to golfing events, we will get back into the swing of things for demo day club fittings so, we can put those new, shiny golf clubs into your hands to see what they can really do. When those begin to pop up onto the calendar, we will make you aware.

In addition to the new and exciting golf clubs that these manufacturers put so much time and effort into, we wanted to take a moment to keep you up-to-date with the golf events that we put our time and effort into for you to experience either amongst the membership as a whole or with your favorite guests. On Saturday, August 12, we will be hosting our last Nine & Dine Golf Event that will feature a mixed group of male and female members in a 9-hole scramble format with dinner to follow. If this is something you would be interested in, please reach out to our Director of Golf, Brandon Meadows at bmeadows@ccwoodmore.com to ensure your spot in the field. This year’s Concert Cup will be held at our sister course, MacGregor Downs Country Club in Cary, North Carolina from Thursday, August 24 through Saturday, August 26 with the possibility to play again on Sunday, August 27. If this is something you would be interested in participating in, we will need a team of 4 members.

8

In addition to August events, we want to help promote something we feel dear to our hearts, the 1st Annual Tee it up for the Troops Golf Tournament that we look to host for our members and for outside guests on Monday, August 28th. The cost for this would be $100 per person, all inclusive. There will be golf and food throughout the day so, we hope you can build a foursome and sign-up at tournevents. com/troops before Monday, August 21. To end the month of August, we will host our Women’s Member-Guest on Wednesday, August 30. Calling all female golf members, invite your guests and let’s make this a great occasion for all involved so, those that do not please, feel as if they missed out on a truly great experience. As we move into September, we will be hosting our Senior Member-Guest on Thursday, September 14. All male and female members, aged 50 and above, grab your golfing buddies and get signed up for this great, special event for all of those involved every year. We wish to grow this event so, if interested or if you have any questions, please contact our Director of Golf, Brandon Meadows at bmeadows@ ccwoodmore.com. Moving into the weekend, we will be hosting our Junior Club Championship on Saturday, September 16 so, mark your calendars for all the young ones at home! In regards to the weekend following, we will be hosting our Men’s Club Championship Qualifier on Saturday, September 23 and we will move into our 1st and 2nd rounds of play on Sunday, September 24. This year, we will give those making the cut a week to prepare their games even further as we host our 3rd round on Saturday, September 30 and the final round on Sunday, October 1. Our Senior and Women’s Club Championship will be the following weekend, October 7th and 8th and we welcome all that are interested in participating.

Weather is usually the best in the fall here in Maryland and we value that greatly. It has been a tradition of Woodmore to host our Men’s Invitational (Member-Guest) in the fall time, October. This year, we will be hosting this tournament from Thursday, October 12 through Saturday, October 14. If this is something you would be interested in playing in with your all-time favorite guest, please do not miss out on this member focused event. If you would like to sign up, please email our Director of Golf, Brandon Meadows at bmeadows@ccwoodmore.com. Last but not least, to end the month of October, we will be hosting our Closing Day Golf Tournament on Saturday, October 28 to include a fun focused golfing format and food and drinks throughout the day to keep you warm! If there is anything we, as the Professional Staff can do for you to enhance your golfing experience here at Woodmore, please do not hesitate to reach out to us as we value each and every one of you. Make your golfing season end strong and keep your fingers crossed that we will be able to play through the winter once again! Brandon Meadows

Greetings from the Grounds Department! The grounds department is in the middle of the most vital time of the year when the turf is under the most stress. I want to thank all the members in advance for the outgoing support for our team as we try to finish the growing season strong. The strongest heat wave of the season is in full swing. Weather patterns that will give us multiple days in the high to mid-nineties and lows in the mid-seventies. These periods put a severe amount of stress on the Poa annua that is the primary turf on most our putting surfaces. Whenever we experience a stretch like this, the most common question that I get from the membership is about reduced green speeds. During these periods, it is necessary for our staff to practice “defensive management of the greens surfaces. This includes raising mowing heights, reducing mowing frequency, reducing topdressing frequency, and syringing the turf surface to reduce heat stress. These practices may result in a temporary reduction of green speeds and while we always strive to provide the membership with great conditions, our first goal must be maintaining the long-term health of the golf course. The alternative is large scale turf loss and green closure while the greens are being re-established.

10

As we start the month of August we plan to have our greens aerification on the 14th – 16th. We will be performing many different culture practices on these days to elevate work when golf resumes. They will include greens aerification, deep tine on fairways, and fertilizer applications are just a few. This will prepare us for the rest of the season for the many club events that we will be held. We schedule to perform these practices early to avoid disrupting the turf during the prime golfing part of the season. I would like the membership to know that we will be addressing all of the issues with the damaged turf when the recovery period begins. There will be small changes to help the issues temporarily to reduce further damage. We will also alter our turf maintenance programs to do our best to prevent any of these issues from reoccurring in the future. The entire grounds staff appreciates your patience as we continue to work through this challenging summer. Feel free to stop me on the course at anytime if you have an questions. Fairway & Greens, Corey Landon Golf Course Superintendent
