GENERAL MANAGER

News

From the General Manager’s Desk Greetings Woodmore Members; On behalf, of the staff and myself, Welcome to Spring!!! As we progress into the 2017 golf season, I’m eager to announce, some exciting updates, since our last newsletter. Many of you may recall, that we opened this year with The CC Woodmore Member Survey. The purpose of this, was to engage with each one of our members. What an incredible response!! I thank everyone, for taking the time, providing feedback and comments that ultimately led to our continued success. One question, on our survey, was “How do our members like to receive communications from the Club?”. With an 83% response, the overwhelming reply was to receive Club information via weekly eblasts and social media. That said, you may have noticed more informative updates from our Grounds and Golf Departments and we certainly have seen, an increase of traffic, to our social media sites. Grounds & Golf: During the “off season” Corey Landon, Director of Grounds, captured the opportunity to complete many projects. Since his promotion, in December, Corey has built a unified Grounds team that share the same great vision and attention to detail. Some of these projects include tee box renovations on Holes #1 & #7, Irrigation upgrades, Fairway drainage, Tree limbing / clearing improving native areas, bunker renovations, bed upgrades, golf accessories improvements including putting green sticks, sand bottle boxes and tee markers. Finally, Corey has lead the newest outdoor project between the 10th tee and 18th green that will feature a new outdoor bar, grill and fire pit. We are excited to open the new “Palmer Half & Half” turn location in early May. Brandon Meadows, Director of Golf, also took the colder months to give our Golf Shop and fresh new look. This allowed us to expand the space to bring in some additional name brands that you, our member, have requested such as Vineyard Vines, Sport Haley and Icikuls, to name a few. All their hard work, dedication and pride has surely not gone unnoticed. What I do ask of each member is that you reciprocate your gratitude with adhering to the policy of the following: Cart Path rules. Each day, a determination is made whether cart traffic could affect the health and condition of our turf. We kindly ask that you strictly adhere to the cart path rule of the day, and please announce, to the professional staff, if a handicap flag is needed. Divots and ball marks. Historically, this has been a challenge as well. Some members have suggested “Divot Parties” but I simply can’t comprehend why our Club should need to host such an event. Instead, I ask that during each round of golf, please remember to carry your sand bottle, fill your divots, repair your ball marks and please hold all guests, of our Club, accountable to do the same. As the season progresses, and rounds begin to increase, it is imperative that we take pride, in our course conditions and continue the great tradition of being named one of the best clubs, in the state.

Clubhouse, Pool & Tennis: If you have not had a chance to participate, in one of our many “new” member events, I strongly encourage you to do so. I continuously receive wonderful emails and kind remarks about each one. These accolades are a testament to the incredible events team lead by Tasman Winston, Director of Events and Giovanni Jones, Catering Sales Manager. Their marketing efforts, including the clubhouse displays, are just a snapshot of a vision that is brought to life. If you are thinking about hosting, an event, simply share your vision with these ladies and allow the magic to happen. Another noteworthy Clubhouse announcement is the promotion of Chef Ray Chen to Director of Culinary Operations and Chef Justin Chen to Executive Chef. All the delectable new menu items and weekly specials are Chef Justin’s recipes and are receiving rave reviews. Although Chef Ray continues to oversee the F&B operation, his focus has been redirected to continuous service level training and daily operations, allowing Chef Justin’s creativity to flow through the kitchen doors. We are also happy to announce the promotion of Ga’Reth Crowner from Locker Room Concierge to Clubhouse Service Manager. This was a very easy decision, as members have continuously remarked on Ga’Reth’s hard work, eager to please and can do approach. It was quite apparent that we could not contain his enthusiasm for Member and Guest services, to locker room operations only and are utilizing his strengths, in service, throughout the entire Clubhouse. Also, the tennis season is in full “swing” and we have a lot of great updates to announce, including the reopening of the 4th court. If you haven’t had a chance to stop by the newly updated tennis facility, you will be pleasantly surprised. We have completely given it a new look, with bright white paint and furnishing, beverage and snack offerings, grips and merchandise services to just name a few. We have a very eventful tennis calendar and have something for every skill level from the very beginner to pros. I am also pleased to announce that we are now, a proud member of the USTA. Finally, I am sure everyone is getting excited that Summer is right around the corner. I sure know we are. With that brings the opening of our pool!! Historically, the pool has always opened on Memorial Day, but by an astounding request, we will be opening early for the entire Memorial weekend. We are super excited to unveil the new colors and updates to our pool house, new menu offering and an incredible schedule of social events we have in store, this season. Once again, I thank you all for your feedback. In the survey, via email, phone calls and simply stopping by during your visits. Based on our membership comments and remarks, our hope is that you all are seeing the great strides we are making, in such a short time, and we’ve only just begun. We look forward to seeing you all this upcoming season. It’s going to be fantastic! See you, at the Club! Mary

MEMBERSHIP News

NEW MEMBERS Let’s give a warm welcome to our new members:

From the Director of Membership Members, I want to focus on three specific areas for this newsletter. The first area has to do with ideas. Specifically, ideas from the members. I know I have spoken with many of you about some things that you would like to see happen throughout Woodmore, but I want the chance to hear each and every one of you out. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time this year. I believe that openness of ideas can make a huge difference in membership and truly enhance the experience here. The second area has to do with our other Concert Golf properties. There are thirteen other Country Clubs that you guys are members at. Incredibly, that number is only growing. As we have added Crestview Country Club in Kansas and White Manor Country Club in Pennsylvania in the past three months. They are all beautiful Clubs, so if you are in the area stop by and check them out. Lastly, I will talk about our Ambassador Program. I have been flooding your e-mails with different documents concerning our Ambassador Program at the beginning of the year here. If you have not had a chance to check everything out please take some time and read over the information. Referring new members can go a long way toward your dues. Plus there are tons of rewards available that will benefit each and every member that takes advantage of them. And honestly, who does not like a year of complimentary dues and a free trip to Amelia Island? If you have friends or co-workers that are interested in joining do not hesitate. Refer them right away and make 2017 an awesome year! Cheers, Greg Rotzell, Director of Membership

FOOD & BEVERAGE

News

From the Food and Beverage Department It has been my pleasure to serve you as the Executive Chef for three plus years here at the Country Club at Woodmore. Beginning in February, I have assumed a new position as the Director of Culinary Operations. We hope to improve service in the dining room, grill room and banquet areas and maintain the great quality of food you have been enjoying. Justin Chen, formerly the Sous Chef, who joined us in July of 2016 is now the Executive Chef. Justin grew up in the restaurant business and has been in the kitchen from the age of 3. He has been bringing new ideas and items to our menu for the past year. Front of the house or back of the house is his comfort zone. Before joining the culinary team at Woodmore he was in charge of a high volume kitchen at Corked Wine Bar and Steakhouse in historic Bethlehem, Pa. He is also an ACF member and is tuned into the latest trends in food art. Please feel free to contact either Justin or myself with any suggestions or concerns. We are here to serve you and to create a memorable dining experience or event. Ray Chen, Director of Culinary Operations 301-249-6100 x 208 Justin Chen, Executive Chef 301-249-6100 x 208

GOLF News

Ladies and Gentlemen, As we progress into May, we will conduct a copy of our Junior Program launched in April to give more chances for our Junior golfers to participate in the programs we wish to offer them. In addition, we will be conducting a launch party for our women golfers. With our 18-holer ladies playing at the Club every Wednesday (Ladies Day) as well as Saturday and Sunday, we thought it would be a fun idea to host a Women’s Tee Off Party on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. This would include all women golfers in our 18-hole league as well as any other women interested in golf. This will give all ladies a chance to meet one another and get involved in the various ladies programs we offer here at Woodmore. This will consist of our women golfers inviting their fellow members to a fun atmosphere that includes a trunk show with various vendors as well as some stock sale items for purchase. In addition, we will conduct a putting and trivia contest for those whom want to participate and we will offer a nice prize for the winners of the night. Following the tee off party, we will have a Women’s Opening Day Mixer on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at 10:00 am to consist of a fun format for those who want to play. This will be open to all women members that show interest in this game. As done in the past, we have hosted a Men’s Twilight which was hosted for 8-weeks on Thursday evenings. We wanted to introduce a program that replaces this Men’s Twilight with the name, Spring Two-Man. We love the atmosphere of this program so, we wanted to move it earlier in the week to give you more flexibility with your family for those whom also play on the weekend and get you here earlier than normal during the week. This program will begin on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 starting at 6:00 pm and continue every Wednesday for

8-weeks. Following this 8-week competition, we will conduct a shootout to determine our winning team. To further express our love for this program, we wanted to offer this more often so, we will also introduce a Fall Two-Man to provide more season-long competition between our membership. Just a couple of days following our beginning rounds of the Spring Two-Man, we will be hosting a Men’s Field Day on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 1:00 pm. This event will be conducted as an opportunity to bring out your friends whom are not members of the Club. This will showcase your Club to three guests during this competitive, fun event with food and drink to follow play. The goal of this event will create an experience that is fun, comfortable and exciting for you, the members, and your guests. On Friday, May 12, 2017 from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm we will have all of the new Mizuno product lines from JPX metalwoods to the new JPX Tour and JPX HotMetal irons. This is a very cool spread of products that Mizuno is putting out and we are very excited for you to give them a shot. We believe Mizuno has a tremendous process for producing iron heads and set-ups and we believe if you have not given this company a try in the past, you do so as soon as possible.

This will consist of seven members and one professional on each team to rival each other in great competition for two fun days of play.

As we progress into the later portion of June, you will notice that we have scheduled a Women’s Field Day on Wednesday, June 21, 2017. This event will be focused on our female membership and will provide them the opportunity to bring up to three guests and experience a day full of fun, golf, and delicious food and drink following play. With that, we wanted to market our Women’s Twilight beginning on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 4:00 pm for 6-weeks. This will be open to all female members and one of their guests to compete for a winning title against all other teams in the program. Sign-up now if this is something that interests you.

As we move through the year, we will approach Memorial Day and therefore, we will in fact keep our doors open for a long weekend. For those of you whom will stay in the area and want to play some golf, we will be encouraging all players to participate in a Skins Game. You will enroll at the first tee with the starter on Monday, May 29. 2017 all day. As we move into June, we will begin our summer Junior Camps for those junior players interested in the game and those whom love to play the game. Our focus is to create a fun environment for each of them to better their abilities and enjoy time with their fellow junior members. We will have this open to golfing members and social members in order to help grow the game even further. In addition, our second Nine and Dine event will be scheduled on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 5:00 pm. Following our Nine and Dine event, we will be conducting our men’s member/member event to be named, The Member’s Tournament. This is on the schedule from Thursday, June 15 – Saturday, June 17. This event will be similar to our annual member/

GREEN News

Greetings from the Grounds Department! I hope this newsletter finds everyone doing well and gearing up for the upcoming golf season. As we get underway, I would like to thank the members for your patience throughout this offseason by allowing our crew to work diligently on the golf course projects without any disturbance. The grounds department plans to finish the month of April strong by completing a variety of project throughout the golf course. But first I wanted to introduce Jared Hafer a new member of the grounds team. He graduated from The University of Pennsylvania turf management program in the spring of 2015. Jared has since then worked at The Country Club at York gaining knowledge from some of the best in the industry. Prior to working in York, he interned at The Vineyard Golf Club in Edgartown, MA. Jared will be a vital part of our operation and in combination with our other assistant to provide the best conditioned golf course in the area. These next couple months will be important for the grounds department to make the final preparation for the upcoming this season. We will be adding new drainage to many problem areas throughout the golf course. This will give us the ability to perform regular routine maintenance during increase amounts of precipitation. In the past we would be forced to skip these areas in order to allow it to dry. This should improve playability, and in the end provide a better product for the members. Another aspect that we look forward to improving it our landscaping around the golf course and clubhouse. Many holes will have

newly planted or upgraded beds to add to the aesthetics. In addition, we removed and grassed the far-right bunker by #12 green. This bunker is far enough away from the green that it rarely comes into play. This will help the grounds department to focus on the bunkers that members regularly play from. As I have stated in the past, the objective of the grounds department is to provide the best product for the members every season. I have picked up this philosophy along my young career to focus our efforts on what we have control of. Our staff is committed to providing the best condition every day. In order to help our department with these conditions, I would like to ask everyone for their assistance in maintaining the golf course this season. Please repair your ball marks and divots as you enjoy your round. A properly repaired ball mark or divot will heal significantly faster than an unrepaired one and, more importantly, will provide your fellow members will better conditions over the course of the season. There is no preferred method to performing either of these practices. A tee can be just as effective of a repair tool as the actual ball mark repair tool. In the fairway, a divot can be replaced or sand can be used if necessary. What I would like to see us focus on as a club is playability. If there is any doubt on the proper procedure, just remember to leave the playing surface in a condition that you would feel comfortable playing from yourself. As a reminder, For the most up to date golf course information, please follow us on twitter @ccwoodmore. I look forward to seeing everyone out here soon!
