GENERAL MANAGER

News

From the General Manager’s Desk Greetings from all of us at The Country Club at Woodmore. I am fast

approaching my 1 year anniversary here and have greatly enjoyed my time in Maryland and my position at The Country Club at Woodmore. We have had a very good 2014 and I would like to take this opportunity to inform you of a few changes and successes over the first 10 months of the year. In our Banquet and Catering Department we have recently hired a new Banquet and Catering Director by the name of Ms. Jennifer Liguori. We have experienced a very successful year as we have seen our revenues within this department increase by 50% over 2013. Additions such as our new Wedding Walkway located on the Northwest side of the clubhouse traveling down to the gazebo has been a nice improvement for our Catering department. In our Membership Department we have recently transitioned our Banquet and Catering Director Mrs. Mary Hudgins to our Director of Sales position overseeing the country club’s Membership Department. Mary did a fantastic job for us in our Catering department and is continuing to grow our membership at a very impressive rate. The 2014 pool season has come to an end and proved to be a huge success. We installed a new wireless network to the pool area this summer which allowed us to utilize a windows tablet to place food and beverage orders at the pool. This addition drastically improved our food and beverage service at the pool and allowed us to greatly shorten our time and mistakes between taking an order and delivering the order to the member at the pool side. We continue to listen to your comments and are working to improve our weekly member events at the country club. Just this month we are scheduled to begin improved Happy Hour specials that will be offered every Friday between the hours of 4 – 7 pm. and a completely new price structure for food and featured wines at our weekly Wine Down Wednesday’s. We also are listening to your suggestions and adding or replacing some items on our dinner menu to satisfy requests from the membership. I would like to thank everyone for their continued support and I look forward to seeing you at the country club. All the Best: Allen Self General Manager

MEMBERSHIP News

NEW MEMBERS Welcome Our New Members Now I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation for all of the phone calls, emails and visits that I have received over the past months, since I have taken over the position of Director of Sales at Woodmore. It has been astounding how much support I have received, from our membership, and for that, I am truly grateful. Now...As temperatures begin to drop, and we prepare for another winter, golf seems to slowly become an afterthought. It slips from the forefront of our minds. A Mid Atlantic passion that is suspended and dormant until spring. For those who are unaware, this is when Membership Opportunities are at its peak. Almost, like buying a car, on the very last day of the month. If you have a friend or colleague, that has expressed interest in membership, there is no better time than now. Your referrals, your sponsorships & your support are the lifeline of our membership and as you can see, we are growing. As a company, and as a club. This is truly an exciting time. For more information on monthly membership promotions and member sponsor incentives, contact me directly at 301-249-8589 or mhudgins@ccwoodmore.com Warm Regards, Mary Hudgins, Director of Sales

FOOD & BEVERAGE

News

From the Banquet and Catering Directors Desk I am very excited to be joining the team here at Woodmore! Event Planning have been a passion of mine and I have been blessed with many opportunities to pursue this industry! I have always worked in the service industry and spent my teen years waiting tables and hosting at restaurants and eventually moved into bartending in my twenties to get through college. I started managing several restaurants for a business owner in Mount Airy, MD until I decided to pursue my passion in the event industry. I found it quite difficult to get a job at the level I thought I deserved, so with my employers blessing, I left the restaurant and became a banquet server to gain experience. I was promoted to Banquet Manager at Ceresville Mansion in Frederick, MD and until coming to Woodmore, I would host one to two weddings a day. I hope to use the experience I gained from not just the wedding venue, but also the restaurant industry to bring the absolute best to Woodmore! I am thrilled to be here as the club grows and work with this amazing Food and Beverage staff to bring you, the members, the quality and service you desire. I hope to provide you with fun and entertaining club events and activities for the whole family, so be on the lookout for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas events coming up! I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you and hope to help you celebrate all the milestones in life!

GOLF

From the Golf Department

Tips from the Pro THE IMPORTANCE OF PROPER SWING PATH An inside to square swing path will generally result in a straight shot. An inside to outside swing path encourages a hook. And, an outside to inside swing path produces a slice. The target line is an imaginary line extending through the ball to the target. Your goal is a swing path that starts on the inside striking the ball while moving slightly to the outside. • Clubface open to ball encourages a slice or fade • Clubface closed to ball encourages a hook Purpose To learn the effects of different swing paths. - An outside to inside swing path will cause a slice (or a shot pulled left if the clubface is closed). An inside to square swing path is desirable for straight shots and consistency. An inside to outside swing path will encourage a hook. To recognize the type of swing path you currently have. - Knowing the type of swing path you currently have is the key to understanding your shots. You need to recognize the type of shots that each swing path produces to effectively analyze your swing. Watch the shape of your shots (the way the shots curve). Examine the depth and direction of your divots to further help you understand your swing path. Identify whether you swing from the inside to outside or the outside to the inside. To understand how clubface position and swing path work together. - Your swing path dictates the starting direction of the ball. The clubface position (open, square, or closed to the target line) is the major influence on the flight of the ball. Clubface position can make the ball slice (curve to the right), go straight or hook (curve to the left.) Swing path and clubface are closely interrelated. Try some slow motion swings to see how the clubface position can be affected by your grip and/or your swing path. The better you know your swing path the better you will know your own unique golf swing and game. Respectfully Submitted, John Kauzlarich, PGA Director of Golf

GREEN

News

Greetings from the Green Department! As we move in to the fall, our focus starts to shift from daily maintenance to golf course improvements. The management team will evaluate the operation and the turf conditions from this past season and begin to take action toward improving the golf course. With increased membership (which we are very pleased about), comes increased play. These increased rounds have shown on a few of our teeing surfaces. These weaker tees all suffer from shade issues. This fall and winter, we will be removing several trees from these sites that should provide us with the necessary sunlight to improve this turf. In addition to select tree removal, we are planning to limb up trees throughout the golf course. Not only will this help the aesthetics of the property, but it will also allow for more airflow and sunlight which, in turn, will improve overall course conditions. Along with tree work, we will also be installing drain fields, expanding the irrigation system, and patching cartpath areas. Please remember, for daily updates on course conditions, hours of operation, or current projects, you can visit our blog at www.ccwoodmoregcm.com. Fairways and Greens, Brandon Collins, Golf Course Superintendent
